The Mistletoe Feud

Rate this book
Phoebe Andrews has been running from her past for the last five years—hiding in her busy life in the big city, and avoiding going home at all costs. Avoiding seeing him again. The first guy to break her heart. When her family begs her to come home for Christmas, Phoebe can’t say no. Maybe going home, and facing her past, will help fill the empty hole in her heart. Afterall, there’s nothing like a few holiday games to help spark her love for the season again.

Spencer Larson has been keeping a secret for the last five years. A secret that drove the girl who stole his heart out of his life. He never expected to see her again, so when Phoebe comes back home for the holidays, he feels like he’s been given a second chance. He loved the girl she was back then, but he quickly realizes that she’s not that girl anymore, and he might just love this version of her even more. Can he keep his secret and still find a way to win her heart?

When their families surprise them by hosting their old childhood contest; The Mistletoe Feud, Phoebe and Spencer are forced to work together in order to win the coveted Mistletoe Crown. She’ll stop at nothing to win it for herself, and he’ll do whatever it takes to make sure she gets it.

Five years apart.
Five tasks await them.
Five opportunities to win.
Five days of forced proximity.
Five chances to fall in love again.

Will their mutual pining and love for the game be enough to win this year, or will the secrets of the past continue to tear them apart?

First holiday read of the 2023 season ✅🥳

Beta read; rtc.

Review 12.02.2023:

I freaking LOVED this book so much. It was such a perfect read with just the right amount of spice and all the cute Christmas vibes.

I loved Phoebe and Spencer’s relationship. The progression of feelings, how sweet and careful Spencer was with approaching a sensitive topic regarding Phoebe’s twin sister.

I loved both families and how close they all were. Literal goals. Danielle created the most perfect little magical small town.

My favorite part was that the spicy bits weren’t too much. It wasn’t raunchy or over the top. It was perfect for the vibes of the book.

The dynamic between Phoebe and her sister Piper were also so perfect. I can’t wait to see what pipers up to in her book!!

I’m so excited to see where else she goes with this genre. Can not wait for more possible rom coms from her!

There’s so many things I disliked about this book. The big secret??? Which wasn’t even a big deal but they made it seem like it was this huge deal which was sooooooo predictable. So lame. And they were so childish?? I felt like I was reading a book written by a middle schooler.

Not a fan!

Thank you, Danielle, for the opportunity to beta read this!

This book is full of christmassy holiday cheer, and even if you’re a one holiday at a time girlie like me it will have you wanting to pull out your tree and decorations.

Phoebe Andrews sure does know how to hold on to a grudge from her teenage years, but honestly who could blame her? She had her heart broken in a betrayal that would cut anyone deeply. And when she comes home for Christmas for the first time in a few years, she’s going to have to confront Spencer Larson and relive the pain from that night.

The Mistletoe Fued had me kicking my feet and giggling, outright laughing at some parts, and internally yelling at these characters to work their shit out and get together already!! I highly recommend this quick paced, fun, (mostly) lighthearted read this Christmas!

I’ve had some incredible reads lately and this one was just not it. It was so cringey and I felt like a junior high or high school student wrote it in creative writing class. It was an endless narrative of miscommunication and pining (in a not cute way). I don’t know how it has so many good reviews…

Phoebe has returned home for the holidays after avoiding it at all costs for the last five years. Her biggest fear is running back into *him.* Spencer freaking Larson. Meanwhile Spencer has been waiting for the last five years to try to make up hurting the girl he has loved since childhood. Upon her return, she is quick to learn her family is restarting one of her childhood traditions, the Mistletoe Feud. The contest forces both Spencer and Phoebe to end up working together to try to win the Mistletoe Crown. Will Phoebe and Spencer be able to work together even after what happened five years ago?

I absolutely ate this adorable holiday romance up!! I loved the characters so much, and I found myself rooting for them the whole time. The narrator did a great job of bringing the story to life as well. Danielle Morris is definitely one of my auto-buy authors when it comes to thrillers, but The Mistletoe Feud just sealed her place on my romance list too.

Bee: I really enjoyed this book. I love the idea that for Spencer, it's always been Phoebe and no one else. Each character had their own flare and at certain points I was a little wary of certain people but they swayed my opinion by their actions. I do wish the main conflict was hashed out a little bit more between two characters (not the FMC & MMC) but overall the development of went by smoothly. I loved the idea of the Feud and the activities were so fun to watch play out.

Nik: This was a festive holiday read. I enjoyed the
Christmas competition and all the fun treats. I was surprised with the conflict and happy with all the resolutions with the characters. It was a sweet "it's always been you" read and great to get you in the mood for the holidays.

I will read anything Danielle writes even if it is about a cutesy town and a family obsessed with Christmas (I am a huge Grinch and hate spending time with family for the most part so these typically are not for me). But this is Danielle so exceptions are made 🫶🏼

What likable characters! This little book is so funny and has such relatable dialogue that I found myself laughing and smiling.

This book does have a trope that I find it difficult to get behind and was therefore finding it hard to not smack the FMC over the head. I may have if she had been real.

Nonetheless, this sweet book should be on everyone’s holiday TBR.

This was cozy, charming Christmas perfection!!!

Spencer? Hello? Where are you? I love you!!!

This was such a fun and heartwarming Christmas story of second chances, family, and good ole fashion competition!! I loved the mistletoe games element of this story and that Phoebe was so competitive (same, girl). Every single character was just so lovable, Little E for the win!!!!

BRB making an intensely awesome “ugly” Christmas sweater 🎄❤️🫶🏻

If I could give this book every star on top of every Christmas tree this year, I would. What other books is going to have me KICKING AND SCREAMING in my car over how cute it is 😩
I messaged Danielle that a part had me “gnawing on the bars of my enclosure” and then just audio messages of me just literal screaming and giggling. 🤭
Danielle took such a fun and new plot and made it into such an amazing story that had become one of my favorite holiday books!

After 5 years of avoiding her hometown, a heartbreak leads Phoebe home for the holidays. She’s happy to see her family but nervous to see him. Her childhood crush that never came to be, Spencer.

Spencer had always been head over heels for Phoebe but keeping one important secret drove her away all those years ago. Now that Phoebe is back in town, Spencer sees it as a chance to right his wrongs and finally get the girl, hopefully.

Their families (who are like best friends. How cute is that 😩) decide that since everyone is home for the holidays they’re going to bring back the old Christmas competition, The Mistletoe Feud. Now Pheobe and Spencer are forced to work together in order for Pheobe to win the Mistletoe Crown, the grand prize that she has never won. Spencer is determined to make sure she wins. No matter what.

Tropes:
❄️Small town romance
🎄”It’s always been you”
❄️ He falls first
🎄Childhood friends/crushes to lovers
❄️ Kevin Bacon (iykyk 😂)
🎄Fun Christmas competition
❄️ Slowburn that burns enough to melt snow fort 👀😂
🎄Forced proximity

I loved this so much. The tension, the slow burn, the secrets…add a sprinkle of spice and phew! This is the book that will make you want to start baking cookies and building gingerbread houses while wearing your ugly Christmas sweater and dancing around the kitchen singing Taylor Swifts’ Christmas album.

I loved seeing the sweet family dynamics and relationships and believe it or not, by the end of it, I even started to like Bacon a little bit…I’m sorry I mean Kevin 🙃

The Mistletoe Feud follows Phoebe, who has not been home in 5 years. She is now back for Christmas. She has not been back because Spencer, her childhood crush, did not seem interested in her. Spencer has always had a crush on Phoebe, but he ruined it. Spencer feels like, with Phoebe back in town, he might be able to win her over. Everything changes when their families surprise them by hosting their old childhood contest: The Mistletoe Feud. Phoebe and Spencer are forced to work together. Spencer is determined to win the contest and win Phoebe over.

I thought this book was okay. I liked the whole small-town, Christmas-contest vibe of this book. But the romance and relationship between Phoebe and Spencer was not for me. A lot of the conflict between the two of them kept going around in circles. This could have been avoided if they just talked about it. The spice in this book felt very forced and frankly was cringy. The drama of this book was childish, to be honest. I feel like this book reads like a YA book rather than adult book. This is the first book I have read by this author, and I will give them another chance. But this was a miss for me.

Phoebe hasn't returned home for a while but this year she must as will get twin Pippa. She has to convince herself not to fall for the guy she had a crush on during her childhood Spencer, as difficult as this is since she's still insanely attracted to the swoon worthy man. But Phoeb is convinced he prefers Pippa despite him telling her over and over she is the only girl for him.
A fun, cosy festive book and Phoebe is adorable you can't help liking her. She's strong and funny and you root for her all the way.
I loved the true Christmas vibes in this one and the slow burn which is my favourite in a romance.
And Spencer is just adorable he's so longing to be with Phoebe.
The author writes beautifully and her characters are so well rounded then there's all the descriptions wow so wonderful.

I had the opportunity to read an early copy of The Mistletoe Feud, and Danielle Morris proved once again that not only does storytelling come as easy as breathing to her, you'd have no idea her first book was a thriller-she writes rom coms like she's been doing it for years.

The Mistletoe Feud gives the reader a fresh take on the premise of a city girl returning home for the holidays. Phoebe Andrews hasn't been home for Christmas for five years, but after getting dumped in front of her entire family the year before, she decides it's time.

When Phoebe returns home to the picturesque town of Noelsville, she finds things aren't entirely as she left them. Not only is her family up one cat whose taken up residence in her room, but maybe the town wasn't exactly as bad as she thought it was.

But two things do remain the same-her childhood crush Spencer, and the holiday tradition of competition. Forced to work together in order to win the Mistletoe Feud and the crown they've both coveted since they were children, Phoebe and Spencer are pushed back together in a fun, holiday take on forced proximity, but where Phoebe will stop at nothing to win, Spencer will stop at nothing to help her.

If you're looking for a holiday book that's going to make you smile, kick your feet, and blush... The Mistletoe Feud is the one for you.

A sweet little small town romance. Phoebe hasn’t been home for Christmas in five years. She’s been avoiding her childhood crush, Spencer Larson after he broke her heart on their first date. This year, her twin sister is coming home from Germany where she’s stationed and her whole family, and to her dismay, Spencer’s family, will be spending the holidays together. To everyone’s surprise, the parents have planned their old tradition of playing The Mistletoe Feud, and Spencer is hoping for a second chance to win back Phoebe’s heart.
To his benefit, he ends up teamed up with Phoebe. Will he be able to win her back and explain himself from five years ago?
A sweet and satisfying second chance romance. I can’t wait for Piper’s story next year!

Are you looking for the perfect book to get you into the holiday spirit? THIS IS THE BOOK!

The Mistletoe Feud is so perfectly adorable, steamy, and funny. I could picture everything perfectly as I read - and it all played out like a Hallmark movie in my head.

Of course with Danielle Morris's books - there's a twist but this one was so heartwarming and authentic. It made me love the characters more.

The storyline isn't overly complex - but that's what makes it such a good read. It's easy to follow, you don't want to put it down, and it's the ideal sit-in-a-chair with hot chocolate kind of read.

“Her smile could melt all the ice caps in the world with how brightly it smiles at me.”
Oh. My. Gosh.
The perfect(ish) holiday romance.
This was so cute. The chemistry is amazing. The spice was good. The concept is fun.
Duel pov. Taylor Swift references.
I loved the cute little illustrations before each chapter.
Honestly, I disliked Piper, Phoebe’s sister, for most of this. I understand better by the end though.
I need me a partner like either one of them.
I want to move to Noelsville. I need a small town Christmas, especially if I can find myself a holiday romance and partner.
Excited for the next book in the series, where Piper takes over.

"It's always been you. It's only been you."

This book was like a warm holiday hug! All of the traditions with Phoebe's family were so sweet, especially the Mistletoe Feud game. What a cute and clever challenge for her and her siblings (and some extra friends). The wintertime activities were so fun. From ice-skating to making gingerbread houses to ugly X-mas sweaters, Morris gives us all the nostalgia of the holiday and season within these pages.

The sweet friends-to-lovers trope was so cute between Phoebe and Spencer. The sugar and spice were just right!

This book a is perfect cozy read and I loved it so much ❤️

It's light and easy to read, makes you laugh and sometimes feel like you need to shake some sense into the characters :D

It's like a Christmas Hallmark movie in a book and I was and still am totally here for it, even now that it's almost summer.

I'm very much looking forward to the next book in the series and will probably re-read this one if I need a palette cleanser in between the much darker books I usually read.

If you love light Christmas romance, this is the perfect book for you!

This book was sweet and cute and magical and ALL THE THINGS! I adored it. Morris’s ability to switch from thriller to romance and still capture my attention from beginning to end is unmatched. ‘The Mistletoe Feud’ is a unique take on the classic holiday rom-com genre, featuring characters who are battling for love, acceptance, and the coveted Mistletoe Crown.

The narrator for this book also did a phenomenal job! I would highly recommend checking this one out when you’re ready to dive into the holiday season. 🎄💕

This is a quick, fun holiday read. I loved the premise of these adult friends and siblings coming together to recreate holiday traditions from their childhood. The Mistletoe Feud is a series of tasks they compete in, ultimately crowning the Mistletoe King or Queen. It is so fun!

There are definitely some cringey moments and tons of miscommunication in this book.
But I had a good time with it and would recommend it to anyone looking for a silly holiday rom-com.

Great little holiday read to get you in the spirit! If you love Hallmark movies with a saucier side, this is THE book for you. The premise of the holiday games and the idyllic setting of Noelsville get you in the mood for Christmas. The steamy tension build up and release between main characters Phoebe and Spencer get you in the mood for...something else entirely!

Though not my typical "go-to" read, I really enjoyed this book. I'm not the Hallmark movie type but it felt like a pleasant change from my normal, and boy was it HOT compared to Hallmark!
I felt like Phillip was the classic little brother, so that was easily relatable. Definitely a good read, and would read it again.
