There are three main POVs in this book. Jade, a mum with a husband she can’t trust; Christina, Jade’s old university friend who is staying at her house; and Mazza, a young girl who is blackmailing Jade’s husband.

The plot was interesting, but predictable. It was a very slow paced beginning, and the ending seemed to be quite rushed. It was lacking the suspense and twists that usually come with thriller stories.
It would have been interesting to see what happened with Mazza and Sam, as it ended abruptly with Jade being none the wiser to what her husband had done.

Thank you to Net Galley & Headline for this ARC.

Feeling underwhelmed and unsatisfied over this one.

Let me tell you exactly how I was personally victimized by each of the three main characters and their plotlines.

Bottom of the pyramid, we have Mazza. Making her grand debut in Chapter Eleven, Mazza is consistently SO close to giving me something. From the connection between her and Sam to the whole talking to the dead thing, one might begin to think that all of that buildup will lead to a grand reveal of biblical proportions.

SPOILER WARNING: It does not.

Instead, her character is left half-baked and her arc is wrapped up in a throwaway chapter.

Up next, Christina. I have so many thoughts and feelings over her.

For one, I need someone to PLEASE get my girl into therapy. She went through multiple serious traumas in quick succession and never healed from a single one of them.

With well wishes sent her way, she pissed me off so bad. Having trauma doesn't make it okay for you to psychologically torture your best friend and kidnap her kids. You can't just do that. And her whole 'I don't blame you' speech right before going on to blame Jade for 'enabling' Sam... I had to take a pause.

One thing to know about Jade is that she's actually never done a single thing wrong. Sure, she can be a little too trusting and minorly self-absorbed, but she's also doing her best.

Unfortunately, her best is really fucking sad to watch. Throughout the book, Jade questions and criticizes everything about herself. She is constantly being put into situations where she's made to doubt her own judgment, and she falls into the trap every single time.

None of that gets any sort of resolution. It's just kind of accepted that, yeah, it's kinda her own fault that all of these horrible things are happening to her and her kids.

I think this book had so much potential that got ruined by questionable pacing and a lack of a satisfactory resolution.

Oh, and fuck you, Sam.

"The Other Woman" by Tania Tay earns a middling 3 out of 5 stars from me. Marketed as a thriller, the book struggles to deliver on its promise of suspense and intrigue, particularly throughout the first half, which drags considerably.

The story lacks the essential twists and turns expected in a thriller, maintaining a monotonous pace with minimal suspense until the very end of the book. When the plot finally does pick up, it provides some needed engagement, but this comes too late to fully redeem the narrative.

Overall, "The Other Woman" was not my cup of tea. It might appeal to readers with a preference for slow-building stories that focus heavily on character dynamics, rather than those seeking a fast-paced, twisty thriller.

The Other Woman is a gripping and addictive tale of betrayal, friendship, family drama, domestic drama and suspense. This is not a thriller so do not go into it thinking that, but it will keep you invested and hooked from start to finish. It was highly suspenseful, and kept me on my toes.

The characters were really well done, so believable. I thought the author did a great job in fleshing them out, it is a highly character driven novel, which is not my Forte, but the author truly did a great job with her debut novel.

Once I started this one I was truly absorbed and hooked in Jade’s world. I just needed to know what was happening and what was going on. It was very well crafted, great storytelling skills and character development. Stellar debut !

Well this is a seriously tense dollop of domestic suspense which I devoured in a single afternoon - perfect sinister reading for by the pool!

I didn’t know what to expect with this novel, and whilst I don’t want to give anything away, I was definitely on the wrong track for 90% of the time! There’s lots of brilliant misdirection in here, and even if you do figure out the main storyline, there’s another whole thread to keep you guessing with Mazz 👀

I loved the three main female characters, who were all really compelling, flawed and real, and I thought the way their stories all connected was very clever. Lots to relate to as well with the difficulties of parenting, and trying to return to work as a mother - it’s hardly surprising there was so much wine involved! Overall a really dark, unexpected story that will keep you turning the pages!

As I read this book I felt like I knew what was coming. Christina, Jade’s old university friend gave me a sense of dread, she didn’t ring true at all.
For me it was a tad predictable. It was an okay read but I didn’t love it. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the advanced copy.

What a pile of tosh, unlikeable characters, including the small child. The adults spent all their time getting drunk and the book ended with a 'I've learnt something today' South Park type finale. Don't waste your time

When two university friends reconnect after 20+ years, Jade is esctatic. After spending the last several years as the main caregiver for her children, she could use a recap of what it was like to be young, wild and free, and that is what Christina does for her. After finding Jade on Instagram, Christina reached out and the two of them meet up and reconnect. When Jade discusses her desire to return to work as a copywriter, Christina offers to watch her three children for her so she could freelance with Anthony, a friend and former colleague. All is going well and good, but on top of worrying about if returning to work was the right decision, Jade is also concerned over her marriage. After she found a suspicious text message on her husband, Sam's, phone from an unknown number, she begins to become suspicious of his behavior. Constantly assured that there is nothing to worry about, their relationship continues but the suspicions don't stop Jade from constantly worrying that Sam is having an affair, particularly with a young woman in his offer named Mazza.
Mazza has many secrets on Sam, but an affair isn't what is keeping her around. After a bit of harrassment occurs at their office Christmas party, Mazza begins blackmailing him, to the point that she requests extra money in order to remain quiet. Sam does as she asks, as the evidence she has will be damning to him, his business and his family life if it were to get out.
Jade remains suspicious of Christina, in addition to Sam, throughout as various occurrences begin happening that make her question what is truly going on. And when Jade finally learns the truth, she will do anything to make it right...especially when her children's lives are at stake.
What Tania Tay has accomplished in this wonderful debut novel is a show of sisterhood. A strange show of sisterhood, but sisterhood nonetheless. It will allow women all over the world to discuss the traumas that we deal with on a daily basis, simply for being a woman, and what constitutes as consent and what doesn't. Such a wonderful story of a sisterhood that went through trials and tribulations, and years of hiding the truth. For a debut novel, well done to this author, and I look forward to seeing all the wonderful things that I'm positive people will say about this book.

Thank you to the team at Headline for granting me access to this arc on net galley in exchange for an honest review.

]I really did not know what to expect when starting this novel, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
This is your typical psychological thriller, but there is something more special about this one.

The narrative follows Jade, a mother of three and wife, who finds herself reconnecting with an old friend. She is helpful, attentive, and wants to slot back into Jade's life as quickly as she left it - but is all as it seems? Truth after truth is revealed, and things begin happening that doesn't seem quite right.

Honestly there were so many narrative strands to this story that I felt like I was constantly on tender hooks, waiting for something to happen. The first quarter of the book I would say was relatively slow, but it helped to build a really clear picture of Jade, her family circumstance, and generally her characterisation. I felt for her on multiple levels, particularly the challenges she was facing with her marriage, and the slow start to the book helped me build a connection with her.

Christina gave me total weird vibes, and this was heightened considering she practically waltzed into Jade's life and made herself comfortable. I just didn't quite trust her.

I found the multiple pov story-telling, alongside the timeline jumps to be really helpful when trying (and failing) to piece the puzzle together. Even though I got there before the grand reveal, it was by the skin of my teeth!

Jade is British-Chinese and living a happy life - husband, children, nice home, etc – but although her husband, Sam, has always been hardworking, he’s becoming more distant and spending more time out on business. Now that the children are at nursery and school, Jade wants to get back to work and the ideal opportunity presents itself when her best friend from Uni, Christina, gets back in touch.

Christina had suddenly left Uni but she did complete her medical training. She’s now getting divorced from her husband and thought she’d come and work in a London hospital, so while she looks for a flat and a job, she stays at Jade’s house. She’s very keen to help out with the children while Jade does some advertising work. Everything’s going so well until Jade picks up her husband’s phone and notices a text from an unknown number, and the secrets start coming out.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I really enjoyed it. It kept me gripped with unexpected twists, although I found the ending a little bit rushed and would’ve preferred another chapter or two to round things off.

Thank you to NetGalley and Headline for an advance reader copy in return for an honest review.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this book.

Jade is a stay at home mum of 3. She has recently reconnected with her old university flat mate, Christina, and is excited to meet up with her.

When Christina turns up down on her luck, Jade offers her the chance to move in. A grateful Christina offers babysitting and allows Jade to go back to work. So much is hidden-what is Christina’s secret and what is going on with Jade’s husband Ben.

This was a nice easy to read story. Not my typical choice of thriller. There was a lot of mystery and suspense but also a lot of relationships and family life. I did have the motivations worked out from early on, but it was nice to have these proven correct! It was well written and I enjoyed the descriptions of Edinburgh and the Scottish scenery. Jade was written as a strong character but her biggest weakness was her love for her husband. Christina had her heart in the right place, but was essentially a lying manipulator.

A good choice for a holiday read.

The Other Woman by Tania Tay is a twisting, compulsive, and unputdownable thriller with a great plot, the ending totally surprised me!! This book contains betrayal, friendship, family drama, domestic drama, and suspense. I was so scared for the characters... I liked how so many points of view were presented so it felt full. This was a hard one as I liked it enough but not enough ... Is that even make sense?

Mum of three Jade meets Christina, an old friend from the university whom Jade hadn't met for years. When Jade offers Christina a place in the house and a "job" as a nanny for her children she isn't ready to open the tin of warms...

Things were just starting to pile up and Madhouse is right there! It's hard to detect who is the real bad guy so you just keep guessing.

Even though I didn't connect with this book as I wanted, this could be your next 5-star read!

Thank you NetGalley and Headline for the copy!

This was soooo damn good! If you want a twisty psychological thriller, then this is it. It’s the kind of story that doesn’t necessarily leave you guessing ( you get breadcrumbed each little detail) but it’s that story where you can see what’s happening and you want the characters to see it to.

The why for the whole story didn’t necessarily make the whole thing for me, but I loved the way the story developed that I actually just enjoyed the book as it was.

The other woman by Tania Tay

Thank you to NetGalley and Headline for this Arc!

Two friends who went to university reconnect after 20 years together, Jade is married with three children and finds herself in need of a nanny when she tries to return to work as a copy writer , and of course her best friend Christina is in the right place right time situation after not being able to get along with her mother and is in need of a place to live.

After Jade finds a message on her husband Sam’s phone from an unknown number with questionable content, Jade starts spinning. Wondering about her relationship and her husband’s behavior starts becoming erratic and shocking.

The drama really adds fuel to the fire when Mazza a woman that Sam is having an affair with starts blackmailing him.
This book was eerie and predictable and I was engaged throughout. Good read.

Jade appears to have everything she ever wanted, but somehow none of it is adding up to happiness for her. Her husband seems distant, her mother is relentlessly critical, and her children are swiftly growing up and away from her.

So when an old friend from University re-emerges in her life and needs a place to stay, it seems as though her moving in could be a win win situation for Jade.

But is there more to the convenient timing of all this than meets the eye? This is a novel packed full of twists that delivers plenty of action. Definitely worth checking out if you enjoy domestic thrillers, it gets 3.5 stars.

Thanks so much to NetGalley and the publisher for my advanced copy!

This book follows Jade, a mom of three who has just reunited with her college best friend, Christina. Christina ends up living at Jade’s house helping out with the kids some so Jade can do some work. Jade confide in Christina when she spots a text from an unknown number on here husband’s phone one day.

This book started out great with a heart pumping prologue. Then it’s got real slow and felt like nothing really happened until 60% in. I enjoy British thrillers but this one used a lot of slang and SO much baby talk from a young son that really added nothing to the story and got on my nerves. It’s made it’s hard to read at times. But I powered through, and the ending was great.

If you are looking for a page-turning domestic thriller then can I recommend The Other Woman.

Jade is a mother of three who is trying to juggle motherhood and an increasingly distant husband with a desire to re-invigorate her career as a copywriter. When she reunites with an old university friend Christina, her offer to help with the children seems like an ideal solution, but as she moves into her house and her family’s life, it soon becomes clear that not all is as it seems …. and where exactly is the threat to Jade’s marriage?

With well drawn characters and plenty of twists that will keep you guessing, this is one that will have you avidly turning the pages - ideal for adding to the holiday reading list!

Great read, when I read the title I thought here we go again an affair, but I was pleasantly surprised, it had me gripped and I finished it in 1 and a bit sittings. It's quite stalkerish esque. Creepy vibes!!
Jade mom of 3 re connects with her old uni friend Cristina, she becomes dispensable around the house cooking, cleaning, looking after the children whilst jade returns to working from home..... is Cristina there for the right reasons? Or does she have an agenda,? She certainly gets her feet under the table, is she flirting with sam jade's husband? What does she want? I would definately recommend this read

The Other Woman is an enjoyable and compelling domestic thriller. Jade has three children and a distant husband, she’s considering returning to work when she’s contacted by an old university friend on social media. Jade met Christina when they were both students at Edinburgh University, she hasn’t seen her for 20 years after Christina left during their second year. Christina is soon involved in Jade’s life and makes herself indispensable, running the house and looking after the children.
I found this to be a gripping read, although it was predictable and became slightly ridiculous towards the end. I found one of the storylines unnecessary and without this the plot would have been tighter. Overall an enjoyable read. 3.5 stars

Once I got into the book I was really hooked, while some bits were quite obvious others weren't so it kept you interested. I really enjoyed the author's writing style and look forward to the next read. I had it finished in a couple of days.

Stories don't always play out exactly how we want them to and at the end I was wishing that certain secrets had been revealed and was quite surprised by the reason for some of what happened!

Definitely worth a read.

Thank you Headline and NetGalley for an early copy of The Other Woman. I Loved the title of the book. Jade was not my cup of tea, she was very mean in the way she spoke to Sam the night she went out. Christina was a whack, her child minding ideas were good though but she made the reader think she was trying to be mom to the kids. This was a great plot, the ending totally surprised me!! Where does Mazza fit in???? You will eventually find out but won’t figure it out at all. Great, Great, Great Book!!! Thank you again.

The Other Woman by Tania Tay was an exciting mystery read. Jade struggles as the mother of three young children while her husband, Sam, tries to keep an ad agency afloat. The concept and plot are very common but this book is well-done and had me on the edge of my seat. There were some slow parts in the beginning but once it heated up, I couldn't stop reading.

The characters in this book will make you want to rage but in a good way that makes you emotionally invested. The ending felt very satisfying.
