This was a fantastic, fast-paced book full of fantastic, life-like characters, each very different from one another and stand out too. I love that it focused on those who were different in some way, whether it was Casander and his funny leg, or Paws and her wheelchair, these things never made the characters lesser, they were just things they dealt with and they lived their lives.

There's some fantastic twists in this story, and I was completely riveted.

It probably isn't the most unique setting, a magic school and a boy who is Foretold as basically the saviour from the Big Bad, but the story itself is so good that it doesn't bother me that it's not the most original setting. It certainly has much more relatable characters than many I've read.

So I highly recommend this and I am really excited to read more!

This was completely compelling, beautifully dark but also deliciously sweet and good natured. I loved it.

There’s a kind of whimsical fantasy in this world of backward clocks and curiously alive books. But what’s most endearing is Cas - the boy with no memory and an uncanny surge of energy within his very core, causing sensational twitching he can’t explain. Warrior though, a girl he encounters, has discovered a world filled with magic that Cas might just be able to help her save.

At heart, this is a story of good and evil but more holistically its periphery there is fun, chaos and most importantly magic.

They say that some people have you at "hello", this one had me with the first page. It reminds me of "The Nowhere Emporium", which to this date is still among my Top 3 Favourite Kidlit books. It is a story about a boy with no memory and a special condition that gives him uncontrollable twitch .

The writing is just mesmerising. I love this so, so, SO much.

A debut. A series starter. A fantasy. What more could a reader want from a book? Those points tick all the boxes for me. Debut writers are always great to watch out for, new voices with new stories. P.A. Staff doesn’t just write, by day she is a science communicator and vet, by night a writer. That sounds like a story in itself! Her debut book Casander Darkbloom and the Threads of Power comes from a very personal place. Growing up she had a condition about which very little is known – Paroxysmal Kinesigenic Choreoathetosis. With her creation, Casander Darkbloom, she hopes that she can help to bring to readers’ attention the universal themes of embracing differences and conquering perceptions. At the same time Casander can help children to understand that ‘why me’ has many different answers, we can all be heroes, not letting ourselves be defined or held back by anything.

Enter the world of Casander Darkbloom, a world that is searching for a hero, a world that needs a hero before the disrupted balance of nature ends the world as they know it. But I get ahead of myself. You want to know more about Casander. He is a mysterious boy, living outside a curiosity shop, with no memory of who he is or where he came from. His limbs randomly surge with energy, and he somehow manages to bring a stuffed raven to life… Then he meets a girl named Warrior, in the process unravelling a thrillingly strange and magical world. A world that is waiting for him. To be its hero. To save it. Casander is the Foretold, prophesied to defeat the wicked Master of All but first he must learn how to master his magic. In the Balance Lands where Others are born with powers and each of them belongs to one of the five Orders there is one who could bring about the end of the world and one who can save it. A unique, powerful, and captivating story.
