This was the book that helped me survive going natural. For Christmas 1995 I gave copies of this book to my sisters and within four months they went natural as well. We are all still natural to this day.

The best thing about this book is its humor and down-to-earth common sense. It's hard to argue against its primary point, which is: After doing everything else to your hair, why NOT wear it natural?

The only downside is that Bonner's hair is texturized in most of the style pictures, which means the styles don't accurately represent chemical-free styling for those of us with "original" hair (*wink*). But if you can get past that (and I recommend that you do) it's worth having on your bookshelf.

This book was the turning point for my journey into "going natural" and ultimately doing "The Big Chop," almost ten years ago! I highly recommend this book for any sister who dreams of freedom to wear their natural, God-given hair, sans relaxer!

I read this book when my daughter was in pre-school and I didn't want to straighten her hair. I was letting go of a perm myself at the time, so it was fortuitous to find this book with may practical suggestions for grooming and styling natural hair, and how to get it to grow out. Many of these things I knew, but the author explained them so well, that I started giving this book to white mothers of children of color my kids played with. And and they thanked me, again and again. The second book, "Kitchen Beautician:..." is also very good with natural treatments for hair and face.

Oldie but Golden Nugget Goodie!!!

This book is an oldie but goodie if you are new on the natural hair journey. It gives use-able advice. Use this as a resource for care and styling your naturally coils, curly or kinky hair. You will find golden nuggets to aid you along your journey.

A LOT of my life has been spent looking for the perfect "hair" product. This book helps stop the war between your psyche (what you want your hair to look like), and reality (what your hair look like healthy and happy)
