Unraveling Brigid's Veil

Rate this book
She'd swap a kingdom for a well-brewed cup of black coffee. But when whispers of betrayal echo through time's corridors, can she stitch the unraveling seams of history?

Wilda Firestone thrives on coffee and snark. Outfitting agents for time travel vacations is her craft, but she thought her days of leaping through epochs were behind her. However, when acts of sabotage point towards moles in the agency, the weight of time rests on her seasoned shoulders.

ith the gravitas of her profession and a bit of reluctance, Wilda navigates the mystique of medieval Ireland. Following a trail woven with treachery and age-old secrets, she is led from the bustling streets of Toronto to the green hills and ancient hillforts of Ireland, tracing every stitch and thread. Yet, as she tugs on this tapestry, she uncovers a shadowy force – one that threatens to erase history's very fabric.

Can Wilda mend the rifts of time and unveil the moles, or will she be lost in the folds of Brigid's Veil?

Unraveling Brigid's Veil is the thrilling third installment in the Toronto Time Agents science fiction series. If you love strong-willed protagonists, mesmerizing realms, and edge-of-your-seat action, then C. N. Jackson's riveting tale is the portal to your next adventure.

Celtic Fairies, Fables, and Folklore!

Christy Nicholas loves all things historical, especially if it has anything to do with Ireland, Scotland, England, or Iceland, and she writes historical fantasy, travel guides, and a book on writing craft. Her tales tend to the gritty, with bittersweet endings, and she's never afraid to torture her characters. But there is beauty in all darkness, and she loves showing that, as well.

TERRA, who has done so much to devastate the time travelers from PENDULUM, is believed to have set up a beachhead in the past. It’s up to Wilda and her trainee to travel to ancient Ireland and figure out what is going on.
Wilda continues to be irreverent, temperamental, and have no patience for anyone (except maybe a good cup of coffee). Algernon cannot tame his tendency to the verbose. Together (with the addition of another traveler) they are a force to be reckoned with.
Jackson’s research and knowledge relating to historical times is impressive, and she imbues a deep sense you are there with her.
Great, great series.

This book is so right up my alley and I think I would have enjoyed it even more if I had actually read the books in order (I just started the first one after reading the third one). You can enjoy this without reading it - I sure did -- as the author gives enough clues about things from the character's pasts that bridge any gaps but I can tell that there may be some humor lost if you haven't spent two previous books with them.

With that said, I loved the main character and her world weary snark that hides (but not very well) a good heart. I enjoyed the concept behind the time traveling and the strict rules that govern the ethics of this. This of course leads to a lot of interesting thoughts about how to ethically deal with an enemy that does not follow these rules…

And of course, visiting medieval Ireland is never a bad choice in my book.

Lucky for me, I get to enjoy Book 1 and 2 while I wait for the next episode.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Wilda was enjoying her life (as much as she could having been traumatized after the death of her husband and son) during retirement as a field agent, and instead she got to make all of the outfits people wore traveling to the past. Now, agents are being murdered and there is a group trying to change time. So not only does she have to try to figure out what is going on, but she has to train a new agent, and in this book, protect her supervisor's young nephew as they travel back to Ireland in the year 1133.

I absolutely love these books, and as someone who loves the time travel genre, truly appreciate how much research the author puts into each book.

This series is not to be read as stand-alone books. You can catch on to what is happening much easier than in a fantasy series, but you will miss out on so much if you just read one.

Medieval Ireland with anomalies

Temporal Agents Wilga and verbose Algernon, along with vacationing nephew Ian, are in Medieval Ireland where Druids and Monks influence a village taken over by Chronus, a rogue TimeTraveler with obscure aims. Wilga continues to be a weak leader. Algernon finds his footing amidst some key mistakes. Young Ian finds love and loses it to death. The whole story is a little sloppy and I got tired a trying to cheer Wilga on when her character doesn’t elicit enough sympathy to warrant it.

Bottom line, I wanted to like this story , but I didn’t.

And the ending? Way too gratuitous of a jump into the next book.

Truly enjoyable time travel read!

It’s obvious C.N. Jackson did her research before ever starting this story. I really enjoyed having a heroine who is “of a certain age” with bad knees who didn’t enjoy walking everywhere. I feel for Wilda though, who couldn’t even have her morning coffee back in Medieval Ireland. There was more than enough action in this story to satisfy anyone, between an eclipse, two festivals—one for the Druids and the other for the priests—and even a battle. And yes, I also enjoyed Wilda’s snark.

Unraveling Brigid's Veil: A Historical Time Travel Adventure (Toronto Time Agents), my fifth read from author Christy Nicholas. I first heard of this author when I received an email from Green Dragon Press and read An Immigrant's Tale: A Druid's Brooch Prequel Short Story 0.5 (Druid's Brooch Series). Well-written with a well-developed primary character, a very good read. I received a Kindle edition & “I'm voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. Good

Due to personal taste, I unfortunately didn't love this book as much as the two previous ones as there is only one travel back in time (which is a catch 22, as there were less place for development with 3 trips a book, but it gave us more action) and the fact that I found the main character a little watered down, not as grumpy and witty as usual, which was the main reason I felt in love with this story...

So my rating went from excellent to good, which is not bad overall.

Unraveling Brigid’s Veil

Book 3 in C. N. Jackson’s series finds Wilda and company in 12th century Ireland and up against rogue temporal agents. Mixing medieval history Druidic and Christian beliefs against Chronus. There is much adversity and even tragedy in this book and our heroine and heroes find themselves fighting an adversary that has little to no hesitation in using advanced technology and techniques to attain their as yet unknown goals.

I thought nothing could top the first book in this series. The second book proved that wrong, but I really thought we could go no higher. Boy, was I wrong! This one is the bestest of them all (so far)!!!!

I want this roller coaster ride to NEVER end!!!!!!!

Another absolutely fantastic story. How will Wilda & Company deal with some strange and not so nice characters in the Time Travel to Ireland. Intriguing and gripping to the very end.

The third installment of the Toronto Time Agents series is another exciting adventure. This time they’re traveling to medieval Ireland. Wilda and company are in search of a group of unethical time travelers with potentially devastating intent. Wilda’s no nonsense, take no prisoners demeanor is complimented by her traveling companions’ strengths. Her boss’s young nephew joins them and proves to be a valuable asset, aside from his raging hormones. I always appreciate the interesting bits of history throughout the story. Jackson brings the beauty and hardships of the past to life. I’m looking forward to the next installment.
