My wannabe friends-to-lovers story is an embarrassing disaster.

It all started when I took a chance on love and made a move on the older guy I’ve been obsessed with for years. I experienced something so humiliating, I’m desperate to bleach it from my brain forever.

I’ve spent every day since pretending it didn’t happen. That it didn’t matter. That it didn’t hurt.

Rocco Monroe came to live with my family when he was eighteen. His bedroom was across from mine. We were friends. He became the son my father never had.

When I tried to change our status, he shut me down. He said I was illicit … a forbidden drug formulated just for him.

And that’s saying something since he’s a DEA agent.

So I cut him out … severed all ties.

What I didn’t know was that while I was trying to forget him, he became addicted.

To me.

The moment he found an opening, he pushed his way back into my life.

But my shattered heart might not survive another break.

I have two choices.

Keep my orderly, Rocco-free life.

Or risk everything for the chance to have it all.

That is if our families don’t kill us first.

You know… figuratively.

And literally.

Oh, this is such a perfect story for Rocco! We get the joy of watching him fall in love with the perfect woman for him! I love the way everything plays out in this story!

Can't write much more without spoilers, so I'll just say this is a fantastic story - the found family, the love they give Rocco & the way he loves them back made my heart happy.

Plus!! We get great group texts that made me LOL & spicy steam that will have you breaking out the fan. 🔥🔥🔥😉

Somehow, I know deep down that I'm not going to like this, which, as I proved, was right. Idk, gut feel, I guess. 🤷‍♀️

Rocco (29) was introduced in the first book as the 17-year-old teen saved from a MC group. And after bringing him to Miami, the agents decided that he should live with Teagan's (22) family, and they accepted him wholeheartedly. These two basically grew up together (10 & 17), and they've been part of each other's lives for the last 12 years.

This is freaking depressing, imo, because Teagan has been in love with him for as long as she can remember. And she has a front-row seat seeing him with "female species" (her words) over the years. 🤧 He was unapologetic about it because he never looked at her or saw her in a romantic light. 😬

But two years ago, something changed, and Teagan wanted to know if she had a chance with him. So she kissed him, and he kissed her back, but when Rocco realized what they did, he told her that it was a mistake and it will never happen again. Tbf, he didn't say this in a mean or hurtful way; he was struggling with the emotions he was feeling but still did his best to be gentle with her. But, of course, rejection is still rejection, and Teagan was hurt by it. She spent the next two years (until the present time) avoiding him as much as she could. 🤷‍♀️

Also, back to that kiss, she was apparently still pure as snow back then, and I bet she would've given her v-card to him had he not rejected her. The idea of her saving herself for him was just too infuriating to read. 😤 And after being rejected, she decided to lose it to some random guy that didn't even make it good for her. And that was the only time she freaking had sex. One. Freaking. Time!🤦‍♀️

As for Rocco, he hadn't been with anyone else after their kiss. And I'm thinking, am I supposed to swoon over this fact??? Because honestly, I didn't. It got me annoyed even more, but I think it's because of the imbalance between them and the fact that he only saw her in a different light after that stupid kiss. Yeah, it was stupid, I said what I said. 🤷‍♀️

He said he spent the last two years hating himself for pushing her away, realizing she has a chokehold on him, and wanting to make up for their wasted time. Wasted, my ass. 😑 I wanna believe this 180, I really do, but I just can't find it in me. 🙅‍♀️ It's probably, nope, definitely a me issue because there's nothing more I hated than unrequited love. I know his respect for her family is a valid reason, but I'm not a rational person at this moment. So I'm going to hate with every fiber of my being that she pined and loved him for half of her life, and he has no freaking clue about it. I mean, how can he be so blind??? 🤧

Teagan was all words and with no action. She kept saying she's not the same lovesick fool from two years ago, yet she didn't even hold her ground for that long and eventually gave in to Rocco. 🤦‍♀️ I can't with her. I just can't.

There's a lot of freaking cliche in this story that pissed me off so much. I don't have the energy to list them. I'm so annoyed but also sad that this is the only book I won't be able to finish in this series. Such a shame that it's also the last one. 😩

This book was like coming home. If you start this series from the very first book and read them all in order, you get to know so many characters and they reappear in each book. By the time this book comes around, the whole gang is there and it just felt like going home and visiting family. I’m really sad to see this series end, but it’s an epic ending. I have all the feels and love for Rocco’s story.

So I already loved Rocco. Who wouldn’t? Heck, who DIDN’T? But when we finally learn just how deep his emotions run, I’m ready to pledge eternal loyalty to the guy. Who else would torment himself by sticking to the rules laid out by the one person he wants for so long? And once that leash is snapped, there’s no going back. Between the group texts Rocco tries to escape, the relearning of the person he adores, and dealing with the quintessential stirrer-upper along the way, Rocco is nothing if not true to himself and to Teagan. Believe me, the chaos that he and Teagan are both thrown into could mean the end of everything that this huge family by choice has going for them. But then you’d be forgetting just what type of chaos brought them together in the first place….

Teagan might seem reckless, but she’s not. She’s smart and trying to hide her bruised heart. And Rocco is not allowing it. Nope. Not anymore. If she’s honest, she sort of doesn’t want to hide anymore either. And she’s exactly who he needs in life. Someone to balance him out, stand firm by his side, and maybe in front of him when she thinks that she’s the best defense he’s got. She and Rocco manage to give us the best of it all and bring unexpected emotions to the table with them. Honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way with this crew. Not at all.

OMG!! This book left me speechless! I absolutely loved and devoured it! I am sad it’s the last book of the Agents! I have loved Rocco since he showed up in Brax’s book. I am so glad to finally get his book! Teagan is awesome and such a fearless person! Her and Rocco are perfect for each other. Seriously, you won’t be disappointed! Each book Brynne writes just get better and better.

I did my best to read this one slowly because I’ve been waiting a long time for Rocco to grow up and get his own HEA plus it’s the last book of the series and I’m not ready to let these people go. But just like every other Brynne Asher book there’s no such thing as reading a book of hers slowly….once I start there’s no putting it down. Rocco’s book was everything I could’ve asked for and more. His love for Teagan and her love for him is the stuff dreams are made of. The banter with the Agents is next level. The heartfelt moments warmed my heart while the danger lurking around every corner gave me palpitations lol. I’ve never been so sad to finish a series….a few tears were shed….I’m going to miss the hell out of these people!

Obsessed!! Illicit by Brynne Asher was an emotional, heart-stopping, saucy suspenseful ride that I couldn’t put down. I have been anticipating Rocco’s story since Possession and Brynne did not disappoint. You could even say she saved the best for last because having the Agents crew together one more time had me feeling all the things. I loved Teagan’s curiosity and confidence in going after everything she was passionate about. Rocco was an absolute dream. I adored that he owned his mistakes and finally went after what he truly desired…which was all things Teagan. (Swoon!) Teagan and Rocco’s chemistry was off-the-charts HOT, and the angst and tension between them before they finally gave in to each other kept me turning page after page. The whole Agents crew is ever present, and their banter is always hilarious and top-notch. I love them all so much!

Overall, I LOVED this book. If you are a fan of a hot protective DEA agent, a dedicated investigative journalist, going undercover, begging for kisses, college graduations, risky missions, a found family, secret romance, nosey loving agents, hilarious text banter, shower steam, close proximity, a jaw-dropping climax, and a HEA that leads to the best life ever, then you will love Teagan and Rocco’s story. I always looked forward to more from Brynne Asher.

✨ Audio Review ✨
Obsessed even more with this couple in audio! Illicit by Brynne Asher was an emotional, heart-stopping, saucy suspenseful ride that I couldn’t stop listening too! Rose Dioro and Jason Clarke perform this audiobook in addictive dual narration. This may be my favorite performance from them in this series, and let’s be honest…I’ve LOVED them all. Rose soft, melodic voice captures Teagan’s inquisitive passions, conflicted emotions, and desires for Rocco brilliantly. Jason’s deep, rumbly timbre encompasses Rocco’s never ending resilience, protective nature, and love for Teagan making him super swoony. Plus, Jason gives us some Cajun accent in this one too! (Call me impressed!) Both narrators created the perfect amount of longing, tension, and HEAT between Teagan and Rocco. I just loved their performances so much!

I don’t even know what to say. I’m incredibly sad to see an end to the Agents, however this is Brynne Asher, so I know whatever she has in store for us next will be a brilliant work of art.

Rocco…can I just say…I LOVE HIM. I’m fairly certain I’ve claimed each and every MMC of BA’s, but I really mean it this time. He turned his life from lemons to lemonade and I’ve been waiting on the sidelines, rooting for his happily ever after since Possession. In Brynne Asher fashion, it didn’t come easy, but boy oh boy was it worth everything in the end.

Then there’s Teagan. Holy Moses! I wanna be her when I grow up. That’s all I’m gonna say on the subject. JUST READ THE DANG BOOK!

There wasn’t anything I didn’t love about Illicit. From gun, to knives, to text conversations that have you cracking up, this book deserves 10 gold stars and then some.

I feel like I’ve been waiting for this book for 28161 years. But in reality it’s only been 2 years. Or less. It’s just that when you’re introduced to a character that you fall in love with waiting for their book is so dang hard.

I guess the saying that the best is saved for last is true. Rocco’s book was everything I wanted and more.

As sad as I am that the Agents series has ended I can’t wait to see where Ms Asher takes us next. She is the queen of banter, bromance and sass….the possibilities are endless.

Illicit is the perfect closure to the phenomenal Agents series, and my new favorite by Brynne Asher!
I absolutely adored Rocco, he’s always had a piece of my heart, and seeing him become the extraordinary man he did, was such an incredible joy.
And what a thrilling story line - Illicit is romantic suspense at its best! The lurking danger, deception, vengeance, organized crime, as well as tender, swoony moments between our protagonists, all masterfully balanced with levity.
The found family we met throughout the Agents series plays such a compelling role in this coming of age, and finding your place in the world story. Their unwavering loyalty forms the backbone of this story. As Rocco grapples with his past, their presence shapes his path toward his future, and the flashbacks into his teens tell such a powerful story of deciding your own destiny and overcoming tumultuous beginning.
I devoured Illicit in one sitting, teetering on the edge of my seat - a testament to the author’s skill and ability to keep us transfixed until the final word.
I highly recommended this book to everyone who enjoys a great romantic thriller!

Wow! This book was amazing!!
I couldn’t wait for Rocco‘s book. I knew his story was going to be something special and it far exceeded my expectations.
Since we first met Rocco in Possession, he has overcome so much and matured into such an incredible guy. Teagan was absolutely perfect for him.
I absolutely loved their journey, I loved their story.
Brynne writes such amazing characters with so much depth. I absolutely love the banter between all the Agents, and I love how hard their family loves.
I wish I could give this more than 5 stars

Rocco Monroe gets his own perfect HEA finally. After two years of silence from Teagan he gets the shock of his life when he hears a familiar voice.
Rocco is a protective alpha male. His story is heartbreaking and uplifting.
All the gang of past characters are present and just as crazy as before. This series has been absolutely amazing. I’m sad to see it end but I know whatever this author comes up with next will be just as good if not better!!

Illicit was… yeah. I don’t have enough words. There was action and suspense and 🌶️ and hilarious banter. Funny text messages. Loving family time. Sweet babies and life’s big moments. Everything I know and love from Brynne Asher was in this book. I’ve loved all of our Agents, but Rocco was so dear. The author did an amazing job with his story and I literally couldn’t have asked for more. I’m so sad that our Agents are done now (though I’m sure they’ll pop up here and there) but I’m so so excited to see where Mrs. Emoji 😜 takes us next

Brynne has done it again. This story captivated me from
Page 1 and still hasn’t let me go. When I closed the book I cried. I was so sad to say goodbye to these amazing characters. Rocco is EVERYTHING. He is everything you knew he would be.. from the moment I met him in Brax and Landyn’s story I knew he would be my favorite. Boy was I right. Rocco is perfect.. jealous, possessive, passionate, honest, and has so much integrity and love for his people. The way he loves Teagan is so beautiful. Teagan is precious. She’s bold and brave and loves Rocco with her whole heart and soul. I am so happy for them both. They are perfect for each other and Rocco deserves nothing but the best. This story is so complex and beautiful. This is a must read.. this whole series is.. every book from Brynne is. Do yourself a favor and dive into this series! You won’t regret it.. you’ll only regret reading it so quickly!!!

I have been waiting for Rocco's story and it is finally here! And it was so worth the wait! Illicit is the perfect read to wrap up the Agents series. I am so sad to see it end.

Rocco and Teagan's story was just perfect! After meeting Rocco in another book as a troubled teen, I loved that we see how he is now. A 29 year old who is ready to establish his career in Miami after wrapping up a case in New Orleans. Teagan is also there at the same time working on a journalism case. These two crossing paths again was intense.

As always we get some danger, some steam and some funny banter between the guys (I live for those conversations)! 5 Stars for Illicit!

What an amazing way to end this fantastic series! I was ecstatic to learn that this book was Rocco’s story. He had such an integral part in Brax and Landryn’s story (Possession, book 1) it was wonderful to finally get his story. As expected, Rocco was just amazing!! He is everything you would expect from a Brynne Asher hero, an alpha male who is possessive, protective, and a little hard headed. Rocco is no different. Teagan knew right away that Rocco was the one and tried to let him know, but was shot down because she was too “illicit” and was heart broken. So she severed all ties and have been pretty much no contact for the past two years. It was not until an unfortunate and potentially dangerous encounter that reconnects them. This was the opening that Rocco needed and didn’t think he wanted to find his way back into Teagan’s life. He knew he missed Teagan but he didn’t realize how much she was vital to his heart.

They were just so perfect for each other. Their story had all the steam, great banter, action, and drama. It was also so great to see all the familiar faces again. What a fantastic read this was!

This is the perfect topper to a fine series! Rocco is outstanding! He’s tough, but sweet (with the right people), he’s a rising star in his career. I love Teagan’s desire to help others in need. She is willing to take a chance - I’m so glad she takes a chance on Rocco! These two lead each other on a merry chase. It’s so much fun to watch it evolve! Such excitement!

Like any great agent, Rocco is a chameleon. But his path to success has been anything but easy. Growing up presented challenges that he didn't always meet or caused him a lot of pain. The hard choices he made brought sadness and grief. But his desire for family and for inclusion and for one to call his own never seemed like a reality he could have. Teagan's outgoing and compassionate nature makes her the perfect foil to his possessive and protective nature. Her daring to face danger in pursuit of doing good, her refusal to immediately bow down to his dictates and her loyalty to what she believes is true just gives him more reason to fall in love. This is the end of the agents series and a true send-off to the families that these stories contained.

First, I just need to give a little nod to this title. Illicit is absolutely perfect for this couple and it made me smile like an idiot when I read the beginning of the book
"She's like an illicit drug formulated just for me. That's the difference between illegal versus illicit.
Illegal is forbidden by law.
Illicit is just forbidden."

Rocco deserved so much and I loved getting to see him finally accepting that he has family and room to love the perfect woman for him. The forbidden aspects to their relationship just helped to prove just how deserving they were of each other and it left me on the edge of my seat at every page turn.

Look, it's a romance book, we know they're going to get together. But Ms. Asher had the perfect amount of waiting time and made me so excited to see just what would finally push these characters over to the point that they can't hold back from each other any longer. It had me captivated and I loved that little bit of suspense of waiting to see what was going to happen and also how other characters would react.

Overall, I'm so sad to see this series end but I'm really excited to see what this author has in store for us next and how these characters may make more appearances down the line.

I absolutely adored this book! I’ve loved Rocco since he was initially introduced to our Agents family and was so excited to see him all grown up. He’s exactly as I hoped he’d be! Fits in perfectly with the Colemans, Brax, Micah, and King and I love that this is a continuation of their stories as much as Rocco’s. We get to learn more about Rocco’s past and that tragedy he lived through. Teagan is a great partner to Rocco and I loved their friends to lovers, slow burn journey so much. Lots of action, steam, and excitement as we’ve come to expect with Brynne’s books. I’m very sad to see the Agents go, but this was such a satisfying conclusion to the series!

I have been waiting for Rocco Monroe's happily ever after for so long and Brynne Asher didn't disappoint me! She saved the best Agent for the last. The angst and ache of forbidden love. The glorious second chance. Whole lot of swoon. Nuclear hot chemistry that comes with a delicious slow burn. The beauty of found family. Epic bromance. I couldn't hold back tears when I turned the last page as my heart was overflowing with heartwarming feels. It's end of an unforgettable journey.

✔️ age gap
✔️ DEA agent hero
✔️ forbidden ( Teagan is daughter of the DEA agent who took Rocco under him and made him part of the family)
✔️ romantic suspense
✔️ forced proximity
✔️ second chance
✔️ he waited for her...2 years

Well Rocco Monroe, I didn't think you will manage to get the forbidden fruit like this. Rocco was kind of adopted by some bada&& DEA Agents after he saved one of their woman's life. His life was a mess then. Neglected. Abused. Lost. He testified against his evil father in his mother's murder case and since then..he has been all over the places. Teagan's family treated him like a son. He was forever indebted to them. When Teagan began to realise her crush, he was already in college. And he was adamant about not looking at her differently. Not even when Teagen kissed him..2 Years ago. When she was 21. But now..he met her again in New Orleans while she was negotiating with a dangerous man to help someone else. It's not a good timing. He is moving back to Miami. Teagan moving to New York for a job of investigative journalist. He has to save her but this Teagan is different. Stubborn. Sassy. And this time..he won't stop.

Rocco has come a long way. He is a kicka&& agent. Hard working. Well respected. His found family loves him unconditionally. But he still has a hard time believing that. That's why he doesn't think that he deserves someone pure and beautiful and sparkling like Teagan. He tried his best to keep his distance. But Teagan is his weakness. Last two Years have been hell to him. That kiss changed something in their deep friendship. Teagan blocked him to protect her heart. But she didn't forget her feelings either. Now the dangerous mission has thrown them together into a mess. And you get to experience Rocco in his full glory. Alpha. Possessive. Protective. But with an enticing vulnerability. Teagan has become a more stubborn and sassy and fierce version in 2 year. She feels strongly for her cause and she won't let Rocco derail her plans. So Rocco has no option but help her. This is less dangerous that facing her father with their relationship but..he has to show Teagan that his distance wasn't because he didn't fall for her as hard as she did. Rather he fell harder and he didn't think he deserves this HEA. This book tied up and brought back old pieces and I am getting emotional just thinking about it. Rocco is one of a kind man. And only someone sweet and compassionate and loving like Teagan can break down his walls.

This was a worthy end to an amazing series. To be honest I regret not reading these books earlier - they’re just perfect. I love the writing style and ideas of the author. All books have unique and well thought out plot which is thrilling and entertaining. There is a lot of shit going down (like always) and I enjoyed the dynamic between Teagan and Rocco. We met the other characters again and they played a big part in this last book.
Teagan and Rocco are a match. Both are possessive and their chemistry was insane. Rocco had the whole touch her and die vibe and I was there for it. Our boy was deeply obsessed with Teagan which was heartwarming to read.
This book concentrates more on family dramas than action but it was good the way it was. I enjoyed meeting all of the previous characters again and get a look at their deep friendship and love.
I hope we get a spin off series with their kids (please, please, please!). And I will continue reading other books from this author cause I‘m addicted.

I can’t believe The Agents came to an end. And what a story to end it with.
Rocco and Teagan’s story was ah-mazing!
I loved their journey, loved Rocco’s evolution from that cocky lost teenager to the self assured man he became, loved Teagan’s tenacity and how despite their hold ups they came together.

This is filled with danger, drama and some of the most wonderful family and friend dynamics I’ve ever read. If you haven’t met Rocco before, don’t worry, you can still read this book without feeling lost.
