** Happy publication day **

A 5 star debut novel is hard to come by but I must say I'm not surprised how incredible this was after reading Wattle It Be?.

The Reality of Us had so many things I loved, especially the FMC's personal growth, the friendships and family, and the small town vibes were just everything. Add to that rescue dogs, an adopted puppy, charities, adventure races - amazing!

It was heart-warming, funny, swoony and spicy at times. The connection between the love interests was 👌 and developed at a perfect pace imo.

--
Alice is a city girl who has ended up in the small town of Wattle Junction after her car dies when she's escaping disastrous issues with her soon to be ex.

Owen has just moved back home, back to family (and omg his mum, Lulu, is one of my favourite side characters ever 🥰). He is starting his own law firm to escape the powers that be in a bigger firm so he can work on his terms and do the right thing.

He is soon engaged to act for Alice as her divorce lawyer...

Side bar. Owen's story impressed me. It's very rare I get to see my profession painted in a positive light. Owen is an amazing MMC: kind, sweet and generous, including generous with his time & it is true, there are lawyers who will give up their time for free to help.

--

I highly recommend checking this one out, it's so sweet and I think bound to make everyone smile and laugh, and maybe get a bit of water in your eyes (of the happiness kind).

Thank you to the author for my eARC in exchange for an honest review.

I love an Aussie romance read!

I loved the small-town of Wattle Junction with its quirky characters and community spirit.

I enjoyed the opposites-attract connection between the colourful and fun Alice, and the traditional yet stoic Owen.

Keen to read more fabulous stories from Australian author Emma Mugglestone!

Book 1 of the Wattle Junction series sees a failed reality star in the form of Alice who has just ran out on her reality rockstar messed up husband. She wants to start over and a broken car and nearest hotel later sees herself in Wattle Junction. Enter her Knight in shining armour as lawyer by day Owen who also happens to be super hot. Alice hires him as her divorce lawyer and she attempts to start a new life.

This book goes into good detail of Alice's backstory on her rise to fame. The highs and lows (mainly lows) of having your life played out in public. It paints a good picture of the community in Wattle Junction which it seems the author is building a series on. Owen and his brothers provide good comic relief and for once I have to be honest I did not see red flags with the main male lead!

The drama come mainly from the divorce and her insecurities which are all understandable and I applauded the good use of spice. There was just enough detail to make it tasty without overpowering the flavour.

My downside? For some reason I didn't fall in love with any of the characters and if I'm going to rate it higher than 3 stars I need to be emotionally invested which unfortunately I was not. Overall a good solid attempt. I would recommend readers who love romance to give this one a go it's sure to connect with others.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

4.5 stars ⭐️ Small town vibes in an Australian romance? Yes please! THE REALITY OF US’s Wattle Junction is Stars Hollow with Aussie charm & a cast of characters you’ll fall in love with.

Alice is a woman stepping out in her own & forging her own path and Owen is her grumpy divorce lawyer with a heart of gold. He’s your next book boyfriend!

Sweetness and spice ensue - the perfect mix!

THE REALITY OF US is all so readable. The pages just fly by and I’m certain that it takes a great deal of skill and work to make a story flow so easily.

I already have THE STORY OF US queued up on my Kindle for another trip to Wattle Junction and I’ll be pre-ordering Emma’s big upcoming release IN THE LONG RUN that’s out in August!

Mm mm mm mid. So fun to get to tandem read with AC in Australia, but like so mid. Also unexpectedly graphic with the smut. We both had to skip through those parts.

Perfect and comforting read for this holiday season, which I read during a period of flu and it kept me so good company while I tried to heal! Alice is a fantastic protagonist, I found myself extremely in tune with her character: during the course of the novel we see her gain confidence in herself, in her abilities, we see her mature and improve. Owen, the MMC, I also liked him straight away, a green flag, always ready to support Alice in everything and without ever making her feel alone. However, the scenes that I appreciated the most were those between Owen and his family: the atmosphere is warm, very cozy and pleasant. The relationship between Alice and Owen develops in a delightful and endearing way; the reader finds himself falling in love with the protagonists as their story grows.

“The reality of us” is divinely written, you don't realize the passing of pages and time, a difficult book to put down that keeps you glued. In this novel I didn't just become fond of Owen and Alice but also of the little dog that steals a smile from us as the pages scroll by and of all the secondary characters, even becoming fond of the small town of Wattle Junction. A book that I recommend picking up as soon as possible!, I can't wait to read more by Emma Mugglestone.

🌶🌶

✨️He falls first
✨️Small town
✨️Forced proximity
✨️Great banter

I started reading and didn't even notice the time passing. I really enjoyed the characters, both the main and the secondary ones.

The tension between Owen and Alice is clear and was very well written. I couldn't wait for them to give in to each other, and when they finally got together, it was *chef kiss*. I loved every scene of them together, especially as they grew closer.

Besides the relationship between the main characters, it's great to see the family dynamics, especially the siblings that provided many hilarious moments.

This is a perfect book about new beginnings. I loved the growth the characters experienced throughout the story.

I had a lot of fun reading this book, and I highly recommend it.

I was very kindly sent this book as an ARC by the lovely Emma Mugglestone and I just wanted to say thank you to her. This was such a good read I love a small town romance and it had the perfect amount of spice mixed with a great plot. I found that as soon as the romance started I was hooked I felt like I had been transported to Wattle Junction myself and was living the story. The relationships were very well written and honestly I loved both Owen and Alice in there own ways, they fit so well together. The relationships between everyone involved that were built throughout the book were amazing to read and experience as well as see how they worked and evolved. This was definitely one of my favourite small town romances to read. I can’t wait to read more work from Emma Mugglestone. This was a 4.5/5 star read for me and I loved every minute of it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5

This was so delightful! I absolutely loved the tension between Owen and Alice. Small town romance, he’s her divorce lawyer, she and her ex are reality tv stars, there’s a cute dog! It’s about fresh starts and healing from heartbreak and taking a chance on someone new. Other tropes you might enjoy:
♥️ Hilarious brothers
♥️ Creating genuine friendships
♥️ Open door spice
♥️ Only one tent
♥️ Forced proximity
♥️ Instant dislike to lovers

Loved it! Thanks to @emma.mugglestone for the ARC. Definitely add this one to your TBR and pre-order it!

Small town romance for the win!
Alice is running away from her failed marriage, among other things, when her car breaks down outside Wattle Junction. Cue sexy lawyer Owen turning up to help and we have a fabulous small town romance beginning.
Wattle junction had many colourful characters, I loved this community and how they all rallied together.
The romance aspect was messy and real, and had some great spicy scenes, but not too many that it hid the main story and messages.
I really enjoyed this one and I shall be on the lookout for any more books by this author.

This book was really cute! I loved the enemies to lovers, small town, opposites attract tropes that were used.

I found Alice a little annoying at the start and hard to connect with, but I did by the end and was rooting for her and Owen. She just wanted to be her own person and make her own decisions. Owen was so sweet. He was such a nice person, always trying to help other people, and putting himself last. He truly loved Alice and wanted the absolute best for her.

The smut in this book was really good. Whilst compared to other books, there wasn’t a whole lot of it, I really enjoyed what there was. This author knows how to write a good sex scene. I felt it wasn’t just sex either, it showed them truly connecting on a deeper level.

The setting of this small Aussie town really is beautiful. All the people were so caring and loving and welcomed Alice really nicely. The Old Girls Gossip Brigade was hilarious and they really did some behind the scenes work to bring Alice and Owen closer together.

Overall, this book was really enjoyable and such a nice, light romance read that I’m sure most people would enjoy.

4.75 stars for Alice, a kick ass main character

The story of a damaged celebrity coming to a small town and finding herself and all the wonderful locals is my favourite type of story. I love that this book explores relationships, good and bad, it has heart and humour. You really fall in love with the town and its people and you want them to win.
Cannot recommend this enough.

Emma Mugglestone did a fabulous job writing a love story that revolved around a part of relationships we typically hide in the shadows.

Alice met Owen in the typical fashion of these types of book: big city girl’s life is ending so she runs to the middle of no where and falls in love with a small town hottie. Doesn’t hurt that the hottie has a really nice butt, good fashion sense and the skills to divorce her from her piece of shit husband. She comes with the baggage of a fake reality show marriage to a rockstar determined to drag her through the dirt if she leaves him. Throughout the book, Alice gains the confidence to stand up for herself like she’s never been able to do before and becomes the women she wants to be rather than the one she thinks she needs to be. With the help of her adoptive small town family, and her ridiculously attractive lawyer, she’s able to pick herself up from nothing and build a life for herself, using her ill gotten marriage fame to raise thousands for people in need.

Alice learns to take control of her life and Owen learns that sometimes, in order to help someone, he has to do nothing but let them figure it out themselves. Owen telling her family to let her figure it out herself is probably the greatest act of love he has in the entire book.

All in all it was an easy, feel good read that I had a hard time putting down. The topic of divorce, especially a messy media followed one, is one most authors don’t touch on so it was an interesting read. There are twists and turns and set backs for Alice that helped her become more confident in herself and her ability to make decisions. Owen stands behind her every second of it, even when she doesn’t want him there, like her personal big muscly cheerleader. I loved these two together and I’m glad they got a happy ending.

Thank you to Emma Mugglestone and BookSirens for the chance to enjoy this eARC for a honest review. I will definitely be recommending this one.

🕯️ The Reality of Us by Emma Mugglestone 🕯️

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Spice: 🌶️🌶️.5

Characterization: 5/5
Plot/Storyline: 4/5
Writing Style: 4/5

🕯️ - In a search for a new start after a media fallout courtesy of her bumbling husband, Alice ends up discovering the safe haven that is Wattle Junction. However, upon her arrival, she finds herself needing assistance from the locally returned lawyer, Owen, in more ways than one. In what starts out as enemies to client/lawyer to then lovers, we see the journey of Owen and Alice to find their individual worths and selves post heartbreak and slander.

🕯️ - Alice has such a redemptive, dynamic characterization on the storyline. Her arc is what really helps make the entire storyline come to life, and the idea that you as the reader think you know what’s happening without actually knowing is wonderfully captured with her as well. We are introduced to Owen in Wattle It Be? but the actual Owen we come to know and love is quite different - we see the grump be less grumpy but there’s so much more to him than that. Lulu is the unsung hero of the book, and I’ll argue with anyone who suggests otherwise.

🕯️ - Reading Australian English was a genuine kick. There were many things I had to contextually figure out or google to make sure I understood fully what was happening, and I love that. I learned so much more than just a great story. The alternating perspectives in this text were more distinct than in the introductory novella, and the only real qualm I have with the entire book overall is the time jumps. Fast forwards are necessary in storytelling and they make sense, but it felt rushed at times to me, but in all earnestness, this was a text that compelled me to keep reading - it was and wasn’t predictable, if that makes sense. Classic tropics with alternative twists.

Final Recommendation: Absolute must read! Faith, love, trust, and time for processing are all explored in great ways. It’s cute, it’s spicy, and it’s a solidly good read. Now I need the other James brothers’ love stories!!

💕 Special thank you to Emma for including me an ARC reviewer for this novel - it was an honor to read and review! 💕

This book surprised me a lot.
The protagonist, Alice, is a superstar who escapes from everyone to finally obtain a divorce, thus meeting Owen in the middle of the road, also trying to change his own life.
The book shows both protagonist povs, and in my opinion, the author manages to capture both personalities in a great way. Honestly, I feel like I didn't give the book a higher rating only because after they grow familiar with each other the story continued a little too quickly, their dinamic at the beginning was good, but there were conversations that I would have liked to see in more detail, but it's a small book, so it doesn't really bother me, I still enjoyed it.

The events and the resolution of the story were also great, I was very surprised by some of the characters' decisions. They were very realistic and healthy!

As I mentioned, It is located in a small town, where everyone knows each other, creating a very nice community, the closeness that everyone showed marvel me. Each secondary character is described in a way that makes you want to know more about them, and it seems like it will be possible since this is a series.

Speaking a little more about these secondary characters, my favorite was Owen's mother. That lady is so lovely, I had a lot of fun reading the interactions with her family and group of friends. The way they treated Alice warmed my heart.

It really is a good story to pass the time if you want to enjoy a cozy romance.
I can't wait to read more of them.

(I received a free advance copy of this book to review, but all my opinions are honest and my own. Thank you so much for the copy ♡)

Before I delve into just how much I adored this beautiful book - which spoiler alert, was a lot… I’d like to express my gratitude to BookSirens, Halestone Publishing, and of course Emma Mugglestone, for the opportunity to read it before its upcoming release.

This was exactly what I needed to read this weekend just gone!

‘The Reality of Us’ follows Alice, a former reality tv star, as she attempts to move on from her now ex-husband, and find her feet in the small town of Wattle Junction. As the very private life she seeks unravels in a very public way, she takes on legal assistance from Owen, who has recently moved from the big city himself, to start up his own law firm.

As Owen aids Alice through her divorce proceedings in a professional manner, the pair get to know each other on a personal level; and although it’s not ideal given the legal relationship, an undeniable attraction unfolds between them.

I’ll leave the synopsis there because I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but I can confirm, the story is similarly written to a good rom-com, and it is made up of the perfect mix of sweet and sexy scenes!

I absolutely adored this. The characters, the chemistry, the setting, and the storyline - it all had my heart feeling warm and fuzzy, and just as I look forward to the next release in the series, I highly recommend this first instalment.

It’s pleasantly paced, perfectly plotted, and in every way, I enjoyed it!

Thank you again Emma.

An amazing debut novel from Emma Mugglestone that is full of heart and heat.
With Wattle Junction she has created the kind of small town that I love, the one where nothings a secret and they always support their own.

Right from the beginning I loved Owen and Alice. Their meet cute was so much fun when Owen finds Alice broken down on the side of the road – they definitely didn’t hit it off straight away.
Owen has scars from a previous relationship as well as remorse from the work he used to do in his previous law firm. He feels like he needs to save everyone as part of his redemption. But Alice doesn’t need him to save her and I love the lessons he learns during their journey.
I love the development of Alice’s character and how she works hard to make changes in her life after the disaster of her marriage. She fights so hard to believe in herself and hope that others believe in her too. I found myself feeling so proud of her and everything she achieves.
Their journey together is a rocky one, often influenced by outside forces as well as their own healing but together they are manage to conquer all the obstacles.

Wattle Junction is a small town that I have fallen in love with. There are so many amazing townsfolk and I absolutely adored the Old Girls Gossip Brigade. Emma Mugglestone has created a great sense of community that will be a wonderful foundation for the rest of her series. I look forward to visiting them all again in the next book.

✨ Arc Review✨

If you are a fan of character building, fresh starts in small towns, and tension build-up…this might be the one for you!

💜💜💜💜
Alice , a former reality star, is on the run after her husband live streams his cheating scandal to the world.
When her car breaks down in Wattle Junction, she uses this opportunity to figure out the future and handle her divorce.
Owen is still adjusting from his move back into town after leaving his corporate job to start his own law firm. When Owen and Alice meet, it's dislike at first sight but Owen takes on Alice's divorce case.
And while the timing is less than ideal, both find that the more time they spend together, the more they start to fall.
💜💜💜💜

Definitely an impressive , well written debut!

There were some serious subjects in the book (you may want to check TW) and a bit of angst at times, but there were also hilarious antics and scenes that kept the story fun.

There was a lot of great character building as well ,as Alice had to re-learn who she was and make a path for herself. I loved that Owen was always there rooting for her and reminding her of her worth.
There are some well written spicy scenes as well but does not over-power plot

And i absolutely have to mention that the story was so perfectly paced I wanted to cry 🥹

Definitely would recommend giving it a read 💜

And thank you @emma.mugglestone for letting me read this in advance in exchange for a free review!

Overall-I thought it was cute. It would have been a quick read if I didn’t keep putting it down. But it was a slow start in the first half. And I struggled a bit (had to re-read and write notes). Getting past that -it flew by and then I was at the end and feeling very content and happy.

First off-holy character building. Alice-wanted to throttle her a few times (well a lot of times). She irritated me from the jump. But then I started getting more of her background and honestly -although I didn’t agree with some of her choices-it was all started making sense. And Owen-had me snorting with his interactions and comments.

All of the side characters and the towns description-amazing job. The brothers (all of them), and Lulu were probably my favorite side characters. Alice and Owen-the back and forth banter, the chemistry. I was like “it has to happen soon!!” It just has to! I was ready. Took everything not to jump to those scenes because I just wanted to see that fire lit. And Thank you for not making all of them fade to black scenes (I’m here for the spicy scenes).

It is a heart warming read-starts of with the builds and then it picks up and makes you feel warm at the end.

I received this ARC free from BookSirens and voluntarily leave this review.

Alice and Owen’s story was an enjoyable small-town Aussie romance. It featured a slew of side characters to nudge them towards acting on their mutual attraction to each other. The Old Girls Gossip Brigade perhaps a touch too cliched and predictable for my tastes, but the dialogue between the James siblings made me laugh. I especially loved Dougie and Rico as Alice’s biggest cheerleaders in this story.

It was a charming portrayal of an Aussie town on the outskirts of Melbourne, very reminiscent of Neighbours. The majority of events took place at Owen’s office, his mother’s gift shop and the local pub. It showcased the culture and its residents in a charming way.

I really liked seeing the major theme of the book - speaking up for yourself and taking charge of your life - play out in both Alice and Owen’s character arcs. Emma painted beautiful scenes of the Australian landscape, using the backdrops to highlight the mood. The action scenes were balanced with sweet, tender moments of introspection between the main characters. I also thought the spicy scenes were written very well with plenty of emotion and anticipation building to the main event!

Overall, a fun read and lovely introduction to Wattle Junction. I sense there’s opportunity to explore relationships between a few characters in this series!

4.5💫 but attorney james is rlly hot so im giving it a five😭

this book is fun, lightweight, and the perfect escape u need. the small town romance is romancing, esp w alive and owen’s chemistry. emma, ur a rockstar!

first, w alice, she’s a girlboss by the end of this book! she developed and emerged to become her own person. she embraced her past, her mistakes, and her fears as she embarked on her new journey towards her home, wattle junction. i love how she’s as sweet as she’s flirty when it comes to owen. she’s so cute and sassy sometimes too.

now, owen… he’s so me omg. he aims to help and fix everyone’s problems and i cant blame him. there’s just something about helping others. i love how he build the confidence and never gave up when he decided he want to open his own office/firm. going on a new journey on your own is never easy. i love how he’s so soft when it comes to alice, how he always affirmed and reassured her to calm her down, drown her insecurities away. and i love how he loves his family. there’s nothing more hot than an attorney guy who’s also a family guy.

overall, it’s a great book! one perfect for the holidays! congrats on this banger, emma! go read this book everyone!

This was a lovely small town contemporary romance that will make you root for love. The story follows the FMC, Alice and the MMC, Owen as they individually navigate their life circumstances and end up falling in love. This story was cozy and heartwarming with several fun moments igniting the chemistry between the two main characters. I enjoyed the storyline, character development, and the banter. I’m a sucker for good chemistry and fun banter, both of which are prevalent in this book. This was not a spicy read, but included non closed door romance. I also enjoyed the personal struggles endured by the characters. I found it very relatable as it’s so easy to become overwhelmed by life’s distractions. Reading how the characters pieced back the fragments of their lives helped better connect me to the characters. I love that this book emphasizes how sometimes simple is best and quieting life’s noise will help you figure out your priorities and what you value most in life. I was so connected to Alice’s healing journey and loved how Owen supported her. Owen was truly swoon worthy. I recommend this book to any one feeling a bit lost in life, and/ or to those in need of some encouragement and a smile. Loved this read!

Summary:

Alice is known for going on a reality TV show to find love. The show ended with her gaining a large following and marrying Phoenix a rockstar who was also on the show. He did a live feed of him cheating and Alice left breaking down in Wattle Junction. She just wants to find herself again.

Owen is a lawyer who is returning home to Wattle Junction. He is trying to establish his law office and he ends up getting hired by the lady he rescued from the side of the road. He finds it hard to not be attracted to Alice.

My thoughts:

I really enjoyed The Reality of Us. Watching Alice grow and find herself was the best part of the story. She has to overcome things her soon to be ex-husband said, not feeling like she will ever be enough for her parents, and just finding herself.

Alice and Owen being together was done well. The attraction was there, the caring but true chemistry was missing for me. It still worked but I would have preferred there had been more natural chemistry between them

The drama and overall storyline was well written. Everything flowed nicely and made it easy to read and get caught up in the story.

Thank you Emma Mugglestone for the complimentary copy of The Reality of Us.
