The Army trained Lieutenant Liberty McCoy to be the best—an elite Special Forces soldier, just like her father and uncles. But nothing prepared her for the bossy, good-looking Navy SEAL who rescues her after a mission goes horribly wrong.
Navy SEAL Drake Hayes thinks his team is being sent out on a special purpose extraction. He’s had enough experience to expect the unexpected. But nothing prepared him for the brave, tough woman he finds.
Their attraction is immediate, overwhelming, and all-consuming. But distance and military regulations force Drake to walk away.
When Liberty’s family discovers her capture wasn’t an act of war but a decade’s old, personal vendetta and she’s still in danger, the men of the 707 move swiftly to exact their revenge. Haunted by the torture she’d endured, plagued with guilt, and heartbroken over losing the man she’d fallen in love with, Liberty spirals out of control, leaving her alone, lost, and adrift.
When Drake faces the decision to save his career and reputation or the woman he loves, the choice is easy. Leaving everything he’d worked so hard for behind, it’s time to follow his heart. Will Drake make it in time, or is Liberty too far gone?
Riley Edwards is a Wall Street Journal and USA Today Bestselling author, wife, and military mom. Riley was born and raised in Los Angeles but now resides on the east coast with her fantastic husband and children.
Riley writes heart-stopping romance with sexy alpha heroes and even stronger heroines. Riley's favorite genres to write are romantic suspense and military romance.
I loved this book and I was so relieved I could finally read Liberty's story. She was a mystery because I didn't know much about her, except two things: she was Levi's daughter and she chose a military career. I highly recommend it, even for the ones who didn't read the previous books of this series. I am happy that It will be another series linked to this one. I didn't have enough of all this amazing characters, I want more!
Wow, wow, wow! I loved this book! Each book in this series just gets better and better! This is Drake and Liberty’s story and what a wild ride it is!! One minute I’m on the edge of my seat turning pages as fast as I can and then I realize the story is going by way too fast!! I didn’t want it to end! What would you sacrifice for the love of your life? Drake literally puts it all on the line for Liberty. Their story is raw and emotional. It’s full of the trauma that we call life. Yet it’s full of the love of family and friends!! Truly, truly amazing!!
Loved the story. Military romance in the heat of battle. Sacrifice. Honor. Pride. Trauma. PTSD. Love. My respect for the military and the sacrifices and burdens they shoulder left my eyes misty several times.
Readers wanting sweet romance will get it, but do be warned that the military characters go through personal trauma here all along the way.
My only complaint is that the book has a lot of military acronyms in it that I didn’t understand. I also didn’t understand how an Army Ranger would be sent off on a SEAL mission…. Or how Wick was in command of both an Army Ranger team and SEAL team? Idk how the military works, but that just didn’t seem real without an explanation?!? Didn’t stop the enjoyable read, but certain aspects of the military plot you just had to go with. Likewise, her feet being so jacked she had to be carried to an extraction point but then running five miles and being mission-read just days later after being beaten within an inch of life? Eh, we got that she was tough, but that stretched it.
While there were a few editing issues, such as missing quotation marks, I like this author’s writing style of always saying what needs to be said without all the fuss and pretty adjectives and ramblings.
The big family involvement is just so well done for the series - glimpses of other characters, and they all contribute to the story and leave you wanting to read their books;)
Riley Edwards scores a winner with Taking Liberty. Page turning from page 1. Drake and Liberty have sparks flying immediately and the sizzle continues. Even if you haven't read the 707 books or the other Next Generation books, you will enjoy it. For fans of the 707 and Next Generation books, I'm giving a 2 hanky warning. A really good read.
2POV but each chapter doesn't state who's chapter. Once you start you figure it out and the alternate until you but a part that goes h,h,H,H then goes back to alternating, so that there me a little. Lots of action, little romance but what romance the H provides is amazing and I wanted more of him. Needed back story on him. There was no real depth to him and his past and what made him who he is. The book is all about the h. What happens to her, how she deals, who she acts and the H is just support. Was slow for me because I wanted a romance not an action.
A Brilliant, Awe Inspiring Military Romance💚💙 A read so worthy of several accolades for characters, storyline, heat, feelings, holy omg, the feelings this journey invoked. It starts out so real, so gritty, my stomach was in knots. I was front and center the whole journey, which is the best ever reading, to find yourself so absorbed into those pages, you become the character(s). Liberty McCoy, a hero to be honored, a woman to be cherished, so determined and focused on being the best of the best, now thinks she's broken. She's not broken, but she, along with her team, were betrayed! The persons responsible still need to be caught. When they find out it's personal, well game on! A whole new playing field opened up with Triple Canopy being the home team. It takes a good, no, a great man, to show her she's still tough as nails, confident, and hasn't lost a thing that makes up the Liberty McCoy he knows and fell in love with when he first found her. Drake is that man, with a soul connection to the true Liberty. This journey is about so much, the camaraderie and connection of a team. Families, blood or not, and having each others' backs no matter what, reading each other in order to stay alive, or simply a show of solidarity, an unwavering trust. A fantastic sigh worthy and surprising HEA. A bit sad because it's the last of this series. Not to worry as this segues into an exciting new series with new characters mixing it up with our beloved and expanding 707 families. A stand alone, fast paced and emotional. Heat, wit, and hair raising action, there's a bit of humor thrown in as well, and I loved every last bit.
The way this one started out...it was tough to read. I hated what Liberty was going through, but loved that she stayed strong. When she was rescued it felt like I could breath again. It was easy for Liberty after, she had issues and didn't/wouldn't face them. It caused some really heartbreaking scenes where she broke, but the thing was each time she was in a safe place with people that cared for her and didn't think less of her.
I liked the connection that Liberty felt with the SEAL team that rescued her and especially that with Drake. I was very shocked with how their relationship came into play later and what Drake gave up to protect Liberty. The way that he explained things to Liberty's father made me like him more and I knew the guys would make sure that Drake was pulled into the fold.
The drama at the end was only good in that it ended things finally. It also allowed the "uncles" to see how the future could go and they slowly started to move things around to set things up for how they wanted them. I really liked then how it ended, with the "uncles" toasting the future, while the "aunts" cackled at their men.
I'm looking forward to reading the next spin off series.
I'm not sure how I want to rate this book. I get the struggle of ptsd. I get the military dynamics. I'm good with all that. But still felt like the book waffled. Left me wanting...
The ending to the mystery, which felt convoluted, was abrupt and extremely anticlimactic. Which was sooooo disappointing. 🤦🏽♀️ Also, they're were some lingering questions based on the mystery. Por I'm just confused a bit...??
The female narrator was waaaay to melancholy. Just brought the book down. It made sense when the h was struggling, but when she was healing and happy??? Ughhh....
5⭐️ Blake and Levi were my fav of the OG couples so of course their only child Liberty would also be my favorite story in this series! I loved everything about this book. I thought the author did a great job of showing that healing isn’t linear and you’ll have a good and bad days but that having a strong support system will help you through anything. Drake was incredible. Patient and strong and understanding. Liberty is a badass just like her mom. I’m glad we’ll still be seeing them in the next series
Honestly throughout this series I wondered if there was going to be any man, man enough for Liberty, she seriously is a force to be reckoned with and I love that about her and then the worst happened and then Drake and his team found her and wow this roller coaster was worth the wait and the ride and the finish Wow
Loved this book. The story was fast, emotional and fun. There was pain, loss, strength and love everything I can expect from the author. I am impressed with the strong female character in this book.
I can't say enough about this book. I love it! Riley Edwards is one of the best writers there is. This book is going to make you cry and laugh. I love this whole book series. If you haven't read the rest of the books you really should. If I could give this book more stars I would.
I loved this so much. It felt fast paced and the plot was gripping throughout the whole book.
🤍 I loved that the problems they faced weren’t caused by miscommunication, but rather actual problems.
🤍 It was dual POV. Though I’m not sure if it was just my kindle edition, but the chapters didn’t explicitly say who the POV was but it was pretty obvious and you picked up on it quickly.
🤍 The FMC was incredible and strong and the MMC loved it and supported her. Never tried to dominate the situations, she was the perfect heroine and able to protect herself without him.
🤍 There wasn’t really spice but it wasn’t needed to feel the connection between them. It was so real and perfect and everything I wanted.
No chapters names, so no clue who it is, punctuation terrible, so no clue who is talking, Liberty is do terrified of being a weak woman that she comes across as horrid!
I really really love parts of these books. I love the huge family. I really love the dads and how protective they all are. I love how close all the ‘cousins’ are. I love that the different books, all follow on.
I hate, no chapters names, so I have no clue who it is! I hate the sex scenes, what little there is! I hate the lack of punctuation, so it’s hard to tell who is talking!
Having said all that. I’m still reading them. As they have a charm.
This book didn’t. Liberty was so terrified of being seen as a weak woman, that she comes across as horrid! Every time one of the uncles or her dad says about protecting her, she bristles and gets angry. It’s so annoying! Drake walks on egg shells so he doesn’t offend her or make her feel weak. The storyline is good apart from the danger is over way too quickly.
I picked this book knowing that maybe (just maybe) I somehow won't connect with the whole story due to skipping the previous books. I jumped onto the 7th book because I love reading a badass heroine.
From the blurb, I imagine Liberty as a tough strong army ranger. In the first few chapters, that was true. She was held captive by the enemy, tortured physically & psychologically and she did not break. I admire that.
But as the story goes, Liberty just wants to be treated as equal with the men. She hates it when people around her treated her like she is a ticking bomb. IMO Liberty did not act like a special forces/army ranger.
Liberty and Drake click so fast, I call it instalove. They knew each other like what? a month?
Too many side characters (I believe they are from the previous books) and that's confusing for me.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Okay this was by far my favorite book in the series. I loved the suspense and how strong both characters were. Drake was my absolute favorite book boyfriend in this series and in the 707 series. I'll admit, I was lost when they spoke about missions or in their Army vocabulary bit I still loved the book. When Carter introduced us to his team I was so excited to read about them but I did not actually think there was a book for each of them...but because this is Riley Edwards there is a book for each of them and I can't express how happy I am.
This story was a bit harder for me to get into. It wasn't that it wasn't a good well-written story, because it was. It was because there was so much Army lingo that I struggled to follow at times. I found myself skimming some of the scenes. However, the grit of the story was excellent and well written. I loved seeing how these two characters traversed the hell together.
So it’s finally here. The end. Riley Edwards concludes the Next Generation Series with her newest book Taking Liberty. And boy-howdy it’s a doozy! Let me see if I can break it down for you.
I’ve come to the end. Of my container of ice cream (just stick with me…). It’s my favorite brand and I’m sad. But rather than just finishing it up with a spoon and the container…I’ve decided I’m gonna use it in a sundae. I’m planning on layering up that goodness with more goodness. Chocolate sauce, a drizzle of caramel, some whipped cream, and of course the cherry on top! But how does this relate to Riley Edwards and Taking Liberty are you asking? Just think about it…
The Next Generation Series has been that favorite container of ice cream. And every new book in that series has been a decadent serving from that container. With Taking Liberty, yes you’ve reached the end and you’re sad but you know what you’re having is gooey goodness. Plus Riley Edwards gives you those extra toppings making this the best yet.
Liberty McCoy is like no other. Don’t get me wrong, ALL of Riley’s heroines have been the shizzle but Liberty has that extra…oomph. She’s the base of this sundae. She has the richness of character with the boldness of flavor that stays true until the end. What she endures in this book can break your heart but her steadfastness and family support level everything out. Just like the sauce we’ve added to the sundae. It evens out the flavors but also gives us that warm fuzzy feeling. Now Drake…he’s those extra toppings I was talking about. He’s the whipped cream, the sprinkles, and even the nuts that take this sundae over the top. From the moment that Drake meets Liberty and y’all have to admit that was EPIC; there’s just this thread that connects them. Drake’s honor, integrity, and loyalty are what make him the perfect match for Liberty.
This amazing journey that Riley Edwards has allowed us to tag along on ends with the distinction. From the very first book, we have been brought into this wonderful world. With breathtaking accuracy, Ms. Edwards has shown us how truly family dynamics work. They aren’t always perfect but they always have your back. That family is not always just blood but also bonds. But I’m missing something to finish off my sundae…OH! Yes. The proverbial cherry on top! Triple Canopy. That’s the cherry. The sweetness that makes this sundae complete. The anticipation that even though we’re done with our sundae but we have more yumminess coming…
And I’m excited to start enjoying the new flavors Riley Edwards has in store for us. This flavor is complete but there’s always room for more ice cream!!
Ok, I can start this review with a big, "Whew!" See, I've finished one of Riley's series before and was left sobbing. Yeah, that was what happened at the end of the Red Team series. This ending was supremely satisfying. We saw the torch passed, and the recipients are already people we know, want to know more about, and can grow to love as we did with Lennox, Clark, Jasper, and Levi.
As I say every time I write a review for one of Riley's books, she writes the best universes. I am so thankful this one is not ending. I am not going there. I feel like I know these people and Riley's Rebels are not ready to say good-bye and leave all these folks to their happily ever afters. Not by a long shot. We need more stories, passionate characters, more brave warriors who fight for our country, and more suspenseful adventures.
Liberty's (also known as Moira) story continues this tradition of great stories birthed from the 707 Series. Liberty is the product of two incredibly strong characters from Finally Free (Blake and Levi), and you can see this in Moira's strength. Liberty is a badass. Liberty achieved things in the book that I am not sure women have done in real life--yet. When Riley posted her playlist, and it included Warrior by Paloma Faith, I knew we were in for a gut-wrenching journey with Liberty. It was a hard read in many ways; Liberty was allowed to have demons to deal with and nightmares to conquer. These struggles only made her story with Drake more. More passionate, more emotional, more honest, and just a better tale. So when Drake and his team rescue Liberty, you can immediately tell like recognizes like. There the story begins for us, and there is so much to love about this tale.
The Subtle threads woven through Taking Liberty is another facet of why this book is a winner. Just the title, to start, is a big play on words. Threads that go back to the original series. Threads of stories to come. Threads of new faces who we only have the very beginning of their story to look forward to reading. And one of the best threads in the book is the threads surrounding the meaning of names.
Ugh, I don't mean to drag this review out; however, Taking Liberty is the culmination of so much it's hard just to cut it short. Liberty's story is a finely drawn tale of suspense, love, and family. Thank you for ending (but not ending) two fantastic series. And thank you for not making us say good-bye to anyone---now get busy and bring on Triple Canopy!
This book invoked so many thoughts and feelings, I am not sure anything I say will really do it justice but here goes…
For starters, Taking Liberty is brilliant! The cast of characters, the backdrops, the conversations, the actions, just all of it on point, believable, intense, emotional, sexy, and so much more. The beginning tied me in knots and broke my heart and actually made me take a pause. The agony, the despair, the sense of loss, the physical pain, the psychological turmoil all almost too much to bear. That is Edwards’ gift to writing these stories. The characters come alive on the pages and the scenes pull you right in.
Liberty and Drake’s story is gritty, unfettered, and invokes all the feelings. I was still trying to process it all when I was done. The journey these two characters take is beautiful and heart wrenching and unmatched by any others in the series. *Do not get me wrong, I absolutely loved every book in this series, this one just seems to stand one step ahead of the rest.*
Liberty’s struggles with guilt and nightmares that constantly weigh heavily on her soul and send her into a spiral she is not sure she can overcome. Her anger and fears push hard at her as she lashes out at those she loves leaving her feeling more lost and alone and unsure of everything she knows, including herself most of all.
Drake is absolutely perfect for Liberty. He actually “sees” her! He sees behind the tough exterior to the vulnerable woman underneath. He knows she is a warrior, sees her strength, knows she is capable of taking care of herself. She is his equal in every way and she stole his heart the first time he saw her. He knows when to stand by her side, when to take over, and when to give her a gentle push. He takes some hard knocks in the story as well, and the steps he takes and lengths he goes to protect Liberty as well as to make her his own are breathtaking and beautiful and show his steadfast love for her.
The closer I got to the end of this story, the more bittersweet it became. Taking Liberty is the last book in the Next Generation series but Edwards does not leave us hanging; there is more to come with these great characters. Since Liberty’s trouble is personal and revolves around her family, Edwards shifts us to the McCoy homefront and Triple Canopy with her parents, uncles, cousins, and their spouses where they all dive into the fray to eliminate the threat to Liberty and her family once and for all. And in doing so, we get to meet the characters next in line to steal our hearts with their stories as Triple Canopy will be spinning off with new adventures. The epilogue is also wonderful, sweet and emotional, and a perfect wrap up to this series. Absolutely perfect all the way around!
Riley Edwards delivers an emotionally charged finale with "Taking Liberty," the seventh and final installment in The Next Generation series. Liberty McCoy, an Army-trained Lieutenant, embodies strength and resilience in the face of unimaginable challenges. This book, the culmination of an exceptional series, tugs at the heartstrings with its raw portrayal of love, loss, and redemption.
From the outset, it's evident that Edwards has mastered the art of crafting heartbreaking yet uplifting narratives, and this book is no exception. Liberty's journey is a testament to the human spirit's capacity for endurance and growth. Her character is flawlessly depicted, her strength palpable through the pages. Readers will find themselves immersed in her story, feeling every emotion as if it were their own.
The dual perspectives offered in Edwards' writing grant insight into the minds of both Liberty and Drake Hayes, the Navy SEAL who becomes her unexpected savior and love interest. Their immediate and intense attraction sets the stage for a rollercoaster ride of passion and longing, beautifully juxtaposed against the backdrop of military duty and personal vendettas.
While the romance sizzles, the underlying mystery adds depth and intrigue to the plot. Edwards masterfully weaves together elements of suspense and romance, keeping readers on the edge of their seats until the very end.
The addition of the audiobook elevates the emotional experience, adding layers of depth to an already gripping narrative. However, the absence of a duet mode leaves a slight longing for even greater immersion.
"Taking Liberty" not only concludes the series with finesse but also serves as a poignant reminder of the resilience within us all. As Liberty and Drake navigate through obstacles both internal and external, their journey becomes a testament to the power of love and the human spirit.
In summary, Riley Edwards' "Taking Liberty" is a must-read for fans of heartfelt romance and riveting suspense. Prepare to have your heart shattered and mended, all in the span of one unforgettable story.
Liberty’s story is as raw, beautiful & gritty as her relentless spirit to complete her mission and honor the men she lost.
The first three chapters of this book had me in tears over the physical pain & mental anguish Liberty endured. She was so strong. A lone survivor in the truest sense who struggles to let those who love her most both care for & pour love on her once she returns home from war.
Riley painted a very vivid, honest & sometimes gut wrenching picture of what life is often like for survivors of PTSD and their families including dealing with a flashback in the moment and how both PTSD & survivor’s guilt can affect the ones they love most. Riley once again showed us the power & importance of family made by bond - not by blood. Liberty’s entire family comes full force to surround Liberty in strength and stand with her in solidarity against those who seek to harm her and the family.
I’m thoroughly impressed in the way Drake just gets Liberty. He’s experienced the trauma of being a POW, knows what’s going on in Liberty’s head and doesn’t let her drown in the chaotic waves of her emotions. Drake fully supports her, gives her a voice and a seat at the table when she feels as though no one’s listening. He sees all of her - both the amazing warrior Liberty outwardly carries herself as along with the beautiful, kind woman tucked safely beneath.
While I’m a bit sad to see the 707 Next Generation series come to a close, Riley Edwards did an amazing job of tying together all our favorite characters, both old & new. She perfectly sets up the scene for her newest series, Triple Canopy, bringing in fresh faces while still giving us glimpses into the lives of the amazing families we’ve come to love.
Special thanks to the author for this copy which I have reviewed honestly & voluntarily. I will be purchasing a copy of this book as part of my forever collection as well.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This book is an amazing ending to the series, while still leading into the new Triple Canopy series. Liberty shows that she is just as strong as the other members of her family. Yet, I feel the underlying thread is not about her strength and resilience, it’s about the true bond of family and relationships. How much would you give up for those you love and what do you gain instead? The families are deeply connected in this series (and the 707 series), proving it is possible to make your own family with your friends. Liberty and Drake’s characters are so real and raw in how they respond and handle everything thrown at them. The scenes explaining what Liberty and Drake went through (as well as tying in her family’s past) are well written. They are dramatic but real, going for realism over sensationalism. It is so believable. The hard issues of PTSD, overcoming emotional and other trauma, as well as dealing with sacrifices your partner makes (without resentment) are just some of the issues dealt with. The way that Drake handled what happened is exactly what you would expect for his character (even as you wish it could be different and are angry on his behalf). Liberty works through the issues, without just suddenly “being ok” after all she’s dealt with. She has to deal with all the hard dirty issues before she can heal. Her family and friends (and Drake) are there to help her but it is she who must take the steps. I feel this is definitely a happily ever after but it is a hard won and much deserved one. This is a very fitting ending to this series and I loved seeing the 707 men married and happy years later. (It’s hard to find books that show the couples after their love story and how they continue their lives). I can’t wait for the Triple Canopy series!!! (I really tried not to give spoilers but this book has so many good quotes and specific details). I cannot wait to read Riley’s future books!
This was the perfect ending to the Next Generation series while also being a perfect bridge to the next series, Triple Canopy. It was also my favorite book of the series. Each book in the series was unique but this one was more of a military romance than the rest. It had definite 707 vibes, and that includes the villain.
Liberty, an Army Ranger, is captured and tortured in Syria and Drake’s SEAL team is sent in to recover her team. Liberty is the lone survivor of her team and has a long road ahead of her to recover. Drake and Liberty have an instant connection, Liberty describes falling for Drake before she even opened her eyes after him breathing life back into her. Because of their positions in the military, a relationship seems impossible, but while carrying out a mission, they can’t keep their feelings from leaking out. They part ways and both go home, Liberty back to South Carolina to recover from her capture and Drake back to Virginia Beach where his SEAL team is stationed.
Liberty struggles with PTSD on top of her heartbreak and her dad finally takes matters into his own hands and seeks Drake out. Drake, meanwhile, has his own setbacks and is fighting the urge to seek Liberty out on his own. He returns to South Carolina with Levi and has to fight to prove to Liberty he is the man for her. They team up with “the uncles”, determined to take out the man who captured and tortured Liberty and Drake finds a new job at Triple Canopy.
As much as I loved this book, there were definitely parts that were hard to read. Liberty’s torture and subsequent PTSD and nightmares, while not overly graphic, were heartbreaking. The connection she has to her family and Drake really helped pull her out of the darkness. This was the perfect “end” to this series, and I can’t wait to dive into Triple Canopy, where I’m sure we’ll see all these characters again.
4.25. This story breaks the mold from the other books in this series. I appreciated the originality. (I hate to admit it, but I even skipped Book 6, as the plots between the books were just getting too similar for my taste.) This story hits the ground running, as LT. Liberty McCall is being held captured. Her cousin Carters’s former Navy Seal Team is sent to rescue the LT. There are some tense and violent action scenes. Be ready for a “boatload” of acronyms and military jargon. (It all seemed authentic to me, but I have never served in the armed forces.) This is more an action romance, than the typical suspense romance genre. Sure there is some suspense around the man who abducted Liberty, but that wasn’t the center point to the plot. The story was more driven by the aftermath of the realities of wars and how those unspeakable acts play havoc with a soldier’s mental well-being. I appreciated how Drake and his fellow Seals treated Liberty with respect, and not just because she out ranked them. In training and on the battlefield they saw her as a fellow soldier and not a woman. They knew she would have their backs. They trusted her military training to be equal to theirs. They fought as a team, with no room for egos or heroism. For the most part, Drake kept his alpha-male in check. Though, in the bedroom, Drake only saw Liberty as a woman. The “Uncles” play much larger roles than the cousins do in this book. Without reading the 707 Freedom Series, I finally felt like I knew these captivating and gallant men better. Even though this book ends the Next Generation Series, I am pretty sure the two youngest of that generation, the twins, will be featured in the upcoming new Series, Triple Canopy.
This is the 7th and final book the Next Generation portion of this series! And I would absolutely read the previous books, and the original series of books before reading this one! That being said, we finally get Liberty's book!! Liberty McCoy is a soldier like her father and uncles before her. But a mission goes wrong and she is taking prisoner. She doesn't expect to be rescued. And she certainly doesn't expect to be rescued by a bossy navy seal who won't let her sink into self-pity or her own mind. Drake thinks his team is being sent in on a special extraction, but he never expects Liberty. Nor does he expect to feel any kind of connection to her. And after walking away because of regulations, neither expect to see each other again.
I absolutely LOVED this one! Loved it! Liberty has always seemed to be this kick butt woman who never lets anything hold her back or derail her dreams. She never expects the things that happen to her to happen, and the way she handles everything just shows how human she really is. And how much heart she has. I loved her! Drake is definitely the bossy, protective, alpha male but he is also willing to do whatever he needs to in order to make sure the people he cares about are able to be happy and have their own dreams. He is absolutely awesome and I loved him! This family has gone through so many things in their lives but they show you that if you stick together you can make it through anything. And that even though they aren't all blood related, blood doesn't make a family. Love and caring do. Bring your tissues because there are parts that will make you cry!!
This was a perfect ending to a great series. Army Ranger Liberty McCoy has been taken and we find her tied up being tortured in the opening scene of the book. She has been captured and isn't sure where she is or the whys yet. Drake and his men have been sent to find and rescue her. He knows that there is no telling what they will find when they finally do find her. They are just hoping to find her alive. Drake knows Carter Lenox, he was one of his teammates. He has vowed to do everything he can to find and bring his cousin home. Drake and his men will stop at nothing to do just that. They are amazed when they do find Liberty and help her start to heal immediately from what she has been through. It's so hard to not give spoilers away as everything is so important to the story that I am so afraid to spoil it for others.. Grab a glass, bottle of wine, box of tissues and some chocolates, find a good reading spot and dive in. This story brings us full circle to where it all began with Freeto the Next Generation series in the journey of these men and their amazing women and the families they have created. I can't even begin to describe the range of emotions this book is going to take the reader through. It was so heartbreaking and gut wrenching at times then laugh thru to tears funny. I always feel like I am right there with characters. The imagery used is always beautifully written. This was such an amazing story but you need to make sure you have ready every other book first to even begin to grasp how important this story is to the end of this series which sets up Riley Edwards next series Triple Canopy.
What a truly awesome story to close the Next Generation series by Riley Edwards. Gripped from the start it's packed with action, harrowing scenes, heat, tears, love and laughter. I ran the whole gamut of emotions reading this story, I got angry, I was sad, I cried, I loved, I laughed and it made me happy and yeah left me wanting more! I highl;y recommend reading it. Liberty McCoy is a kickass SF Ranger, strong, fearless but also oh so stubborn. She is an incredible character who simply keeps going no matter what she suffers or the weight of guilt she feels pulling her down and she completely gets under your skin certainly now one of my favourite characters. Master Chief Drake Hayes is everything I wanted him to be, strong, alpha, sexy and caring, completely wonderful, definitely a keeper and my new crush - everyone should have a Drake in their life. Unusually for the Next Generation the story starts half a world away from Georgia and the family and you are thrown straight into the action with the main characters and it doesn't let up. Drake and his SEAL team are tasked with rescuing Liberty from her kidnappers, when they meet it changes their lives for ever, their attraction is immediate but they have so many obstacles to overcome before they can hope to turn their HEA into reality. Liberty has been through hell and has very real demons to fight but Drake has her back, he sees the real Liberty and has no intention of letting her go. I love the fact that Liberty's family and Drake's team mates realise what is happening between the two before Liberty & Drake do. Once back in Georgia the whole family pulls together to support Liberty and show her they have her back no matter what. The ending is perfect with everyone together and although I definitely didn't want it to end, as one door is closing another one is opening with the new Triple Canopy series - truly cannot wait. A fantastic book beautifully written, plenty of detail and so much emotion to tug your heart. I've "met" some wonderful military characters and teams in my reading but Drake, Trey, Logan, Matt & Luke are firmly lodged as my new favourites and I can't wait for the rest of the team to get their stories in the Triple Canopy series (please let their stories be coming).
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I absolutely love this series. I finished the book and I immediately want to read it again, the whole series actually. To go over all what happened in my mind again, to delve deeper into the characters, Liberty and Drake, and all the associated family that make up the McCoy's, Lenox`s, Walker`s, and the Clark's. They are an awesome family and it`s been a privilege to read about them through the eyes of Ms. Edwards.
I cried at least three times during this book and I laughed way more and held my breath waiting to turn the next page. Ms. Edwards covers all the emotions in each of her books and it`s always a wild ride when you read her stories. `Because until you concede, you cannot begin to recognize your strength`. `God. I`m broken. I can`t. Please, I need help. I can`t ... `` All this in front of nine men, Dad, Lenox, Clark, Jasper, Nick, Jason, Carter, Ethan and Jackson. `They had faith in me, even if I couldn't find it myself.` And now there are a whole bunch more men to support all those strong heroines. The funny stuff, Luke talking about Lucy and Rhoda ... The serious stuff, when you die in battle you get celebrated, but when you`re injured you get your walking papers. Totally true. I look forward to every release by Ms. Edwards and highly recommend them to any reader out there.
