The carnival appears once a year on Halloween. The location is always different, but the party is the same. The promise of a night of pure euphoria. Mayhem is invitation only. This year I was invited.
Kelsey and Mandy finally were invited to the Mayhem Carnival, there are some rules, and they're not going to break it, because they want this too much. It's all very secret, and they can't know where it is.
With this plot I was hoping for something darker, with death, carnival, secret place, masks... This one was a big disappointment.
It's all about sex, doesn't have a story. Two friends go to a sex carnival and have lots a sex with strangers. This was too vulgar...
This was giving Fear with Reese Witherspoon vibes, specifically the roller-coaster scene, but we got a ferris wheel scene here instead. That won me over not gonna lie. But I also like how over the top ridiculous this is, in a good way.
Kelsey and Mandy had the time of their lives at this carnival, WE LOVE TO SEE IT!!!
There was kind of a background romance plot with Kelsey and one of the masked men that doesn't come together (hah!) until the end, but said ending left me wanting more of them.
YOU CAN'T JUST PUT ON THE BEST SHOW IN THE WORLD AND DROP THAT LINE AND NOT WRITE A SEQUEL!!!!!! You really can't, it's illegal, you must continue their story ok? Ok.
This was pretty cute. Nothing I'd write home about, mostly because the sappy ending felt a little out of place compared to the rest of the novella, but the idea of the carnival as a whole was neat - especially the haunted house!
The cover is what originally made me want to read this story. I am so pissed that I waited so long to read this. If you’re looking for a Halloween read, this is perfect. The writing style paints the perfect setting for the carnival. And y’all, the spice 👀 it was so good 😩 I loved every scene and wasn’t sure how much more i was going to get, but each scene was 🥵 Okay and Creed 😏 I absolutely loved how he made sure Kels had a good time at the carnival (with him of course) I didn’t realize it was him the whole time and it was such a sweet secret when he admitted it. I need more, so much more. Does she become the queen of mayhem because I would be saying yes in a heart beat. I need a place like this in real life 🙏 I cannot wait to check out more by this author!

Kelsey and Mandy seemed to have a wild night full of naughty debauchery. Where was my invite?
This is the kind of full throttle smut that I am 100% behind. It has a little bit of a story, lots of naughty time, has a good flow, and makes me say "WTF!" a few times in the best way possible. The fun that was had on the Gravitron? That needs to happen for me on regular weekly date nights. Anyone have a location on that for me?
The ending was a bit off. It gave off Caraval feels which made me cringe. It isn't a dealbreaker, but something different would have been preferred. Totally my opinion on that topic.
This was a short read coming in at only 65 pages. I loved the premise of this book, but it was too short in my opinion. While I enjoyed it for what it was it just left me wanting so much more when I finished it. I don't really have much else to say about it. Don't go into it expecting some big horror plot because that's not what you will get at all. This is just basically all smut.
I downloaded this book for free on kindle. And it was such a fun read. This was a novella, but honestly the author could've written a novel with this premise and I would've read every word. I was sucked in from page one and couldn't put it down until I was done. I recommend if you're looking for a quick, fun read in the dark romance genre.
Lord o lord!!!!! This is a quick read but holy crap it delivers.. let me tell you when I said I’m running to a carnival i mean asap.. cause this place is where everything happens. I couldn’t get enough of this book. Definitely worth the read.. But enter at your own risk 😉
Definitely something different than I expected.🙈 It was more about carnival attractions than ‘spicy activities’ and… Nothing too dark, felt more like a romance novel and there was even HFN at the end.😅 5/10.
🌟 ℝ𝕒𝕥𝕚𝕟𝕘: an enjoyable 3 stars for the story itself, but rounded down to a 2.5 or 2 for poor editing.
🤔 𝕀𝕞𝕡𝕣𝕖𝕤𝕤𝕚𝕠𝕟𝕤: this was a very short read and was definitely interesting. I read it straight through in about an hour on my lunch break. the context of the story - a sex carnival where everyone is literally with everyone else - was a fun idea, but it really could have used further editing. the grammar and punctuation used here left a lot to be desired, to the point that it was distracting from the story itself, even though the writing itself was pretty good.
**vague-ish spoilers ahead? I found this recommended on a post asking for “the darkest shit you’ve ever read,” and this isn’t that, IMO. I kept expecting there to be a twist where we find out everything the characters are seeing is REAL and not just part of the carnival…but that never happens. it’s actually quite the lovely exercise in how consent is so important in group settings and that was really nice? haha. quite the opposite of dark. just kinky, 𝒘𝒉𝒊𝒄𝒉 𝒊𝒔 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒂𝒎𝒆.**
🎧 𝔸𝕦𝕕𝕚𝕠𝕓𝕠𝕠𝕜: N/A, read on KU
🌶️ 𝕊𝕡𝕚𝕔𝕖: despite the distracting writing, this was a fun read. if group scenes are your thing, you’ll really like this, I think.
🧠 𝔸𝕝𝕝 𝕀𝕟 𝔸𝕝𝕝: an okay novella that I was happy to find as I try to wrap up my 2023 reading goal 👌🏽
This was a fun read. It was spicy and interesting. Great writing, however this has terrible editing. There were many mistakes with punctuation, including missing quotation marks when a person was speaking, and sentences that didn't make any sense to me. Which distracted me from the story itself. There was also one random POV change throughout the book that I personally felt didn't fit in. This novella didn't really feel quite descriptive and would have loved more details as well.
If you like group settings and masked men I'd read this just because it's a quick read. But I wouldn't say that this book is a dark romance, as there were no real dark scenes. Kinky and sexy yes, dark romance, no unfortunately. There's some minor knife play, but once again not very descriptive.
The ending unfortunately is not it. I'd love to read more by Scarlett Swan though, as I feel this was just a quick Halloween novella.
Edited to add: there was one part of the book that was interactive, I honestly thought that was really, really cool. I was hoping more of the book would be like that, but wasn't unfortunately.
