O.M.G. !!! Loved.
The Lies We Tell has got to be my new favorite book in Scarlett Cole's addictive MC romance series- Iron Outlaws. If you love excellent storytelling, wild, sometimes darker plot twists and intensely spicey, heart melting moments that'll leave you breathless, go get yourself some Saint, aka, Preacher Man, asap. He may have the perfect bible verse for any occasion waiting on his lips, but has been flying under the radar, hiding in plain sight within with the Iron Outlaws MC for years. He's juggling enough secrets to burn his entire whole world down to the ground, while walking a fine gray line between what used to feel right and how he'd like things to be now. This group of men have become friends and brothers and this MC lifestyle fits him well, but his former life is still lurking in the shadows, waiting impatiently for him to return.
When Saint and his MC brother, Spark, find themselves in the middle of a kidnapping late one night, they're faced with an impossible life or death situation. He makes a split second decision, the only kind a man like him could make, changing the coarse of many lives, including his own. Briar escaped her captors, and is running for her life, scared out of her mind, not knowing who she can trust. She's shaken, battered and traumatized, but rescued just in the knick of time by a man she knows nothing about. He's kind and gentle with her broken spirit, but can she trust him with her life?
“Throughout the rest of my life, there’ll probably never be a better example of me being in the right place at the right time.”
Meant to be? The former captive and her avenging savior and protector, are in for quite a ride, with an instant and heated attraction, like a wild fire out of control. Will they act on these feelings or let them fade away when or if she returns to life as she used to know it? Saint is trying to be the better man, do the right thing and resist everything that tempts him about this beautiful, intelligent woman, but as different as their lives are, he's not so sure he can.
"I wish I could let myself drown in those brown eyes of hers. Just for a moment, I want to be more than her friend."
Saint wants to be his true self with these brothers he's come to love & respect, but the persona of Saint is overflowing with lies. He's been holding back with Briar as well, and as much as he wants to keep her safe and show her what being with him would mean, his conscience won't allow him to risk any of it. To do so would blow his cover wide open and put them all in inexplicable danger or possibly even six feet under.
What a crazy, intensely complicated and well written story The Lies We Tell turned out to be. I had a feeling THIS book was the one that would keep me tied my to my favorite chair until my eyes were barely able to stay open. I was absolutely right! A multitude of emotions were rolling through me while I completely immersed myself in Saint and Briar's hot, sexy secretive bubble. I'm usually more fascinated by the sexy, broken hero, or anti- hero in whatever story I'm reading, which was very much the case with the enigma that was Saint. He was a fierce protector, an intense lover and a conflicted soul, but Briar, even while she was recovering from something scarring and terrifying, was still a strong, caring woman to admire and love every part of. Together, solving the puzzle that led to their hard fought happiness was everything I could want in a darker, MC romance. The question remains though- WTH was the last chapter about?? Gah! I need to know!!
This book can be enjoyed as a standalone, but make sure you go back and see where it all began with the first three books in the Iron Outlaws series- this world offers must read, bingeable and mind blowing escapism.
