As far as murder cases are concerned, Alice Humphries thought she was one and done. Unfortunately for her, Don has other plans!Their newest victim? A rags-to-riches vodka-preneur trying to break into the legalized cannabis market. Their client? A pothead with a penchant for ‘forgettting’ the truth. And of course they’ll pick up a few less-than-cooperative clients along the way…Seriously, Stoned? is the raucous follow-up to Monica Hoopes' debut novel, Seriously, Murder? It’s seriously coming your way soon!
Great second addition to the series, even funnier than the first book. Really enjoyable murder mystery for my Dateline-loving sensibilities. The dialogue and characters really pull you into the central NJ town, and you feel a part of it all from the start. Enjoy!
Alice and Don are back in a second installment of hilarity in a sleepy rural-ish legal community. This could be a stand alone, but you really ought to do yourself the favor of grabbing the first book in their series.
If you love poptarts, lawyers, and laugh out loud moments you will love Alice and Don. Friends from law school who, after no better prospects open their own law practice in a sleepy, western/central NJ town. From judges to court officers to prosecutors and clients the characters are well written, well rounded and almost unbelievable. Almost! In an effort to pay the bills Don brings in some questionable clients, which prompts questionable actions and leads to these two being involved in a murder trial, a law office hot tub party and skulking around in the dark on a pot farm.
Don and Alice have been best friends since meeting in law school. Opening their own law practice had been all Don’s idea. And now, just a short time after working their first murder case while flying by the seats of their pants, Don has agreed to take on another murder case. Except he hasn’t been brave enough to tell Allie. Yet. Neither one of them has a clue about how to investigate the murder at the new marijuana grow facility in order to best defend their spacey client.
If you’re a fan of Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series, you’re going to love Don and Allie and their “learn as you go” antics in their fledgling law office. Seriously Stoned is a rollicking good time. It’s even better when you read Seriously, Murder?!
The author does it again with lawyers and business partners Alice and Don taking on a murder case and more! Don takes on a case that involves defending a pothead murder suspect without Alice's knowledge. This creates a lot of emotions in Alice. The story follows these two trying to figure out how to defend a murder suspect with a "crazy" client living in their conference room, as well as take on a case of a senior accused of vandalism.
With its suspenseful plot, engaging characters, and a blend of legal intrigue and humor, this novel is a must-read for fans of crime fiction. The author's captivating storytelling will keep you guessing until the very end.
I received a free advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
Laugh out loud funny! This book is a must read for anyone who likes witty and relatable characters with some murder and spice thrown in.
This is the second installment in the Don and Alice series. I throughly enjoyed this book. The witty banter between Don and Alice and the crazy cast of characters they meet and collect along the way made this a super enjoyable read. The characters are super relatable and I love that Monica uses local spots/areas to create the settings for her books. So many times during this book I would burst into laughter with the antics of Don and Alice. I think the other people in the gym thought I was nuts 😉. I can’t wait for the next installment and look forward to what Don and Alice are up to next.
I live in the same town that the author lives in so I love all the references to the local coffee shop and pizza places. It makes it a bit more fun but if you are not from the same town, it doesn't take away anything from the book.
It is a fun mystery to read while Alice and Don are Alice and Don. They are both silly and ridiculous in their own way. It's one of those books that you can't put down. I barely looked at social media during the few days it took me to read Seriously, Stoned?
I would highly recommend it if you like murder mysteries with some humor elements. It is a ton of fun and keeps you on the edge of your seat.
This is the first book I have read by Monica Hoopes & I cannot wait to read more! She is laugh out loud funny and this is an easy beach or curl up by the fireplace kind of read. Don and Alice have been best friends since meeting in law school, and are now partners in their own law practice. Don accepts a murder case without telling Alice, as he knows she would say no. Neither of them know how to investigate the murder to help their ditzy, funny personality client. It takes place in a central Jersey town, which makes it funny when they name local spots. Can't wait to read her next book!
Once again these characters are up to their antics and I was so glad to be along for the ride. The banter and humor is hilarious! I personally felt differently about the love interest in this one, if I hadn't known their history from the first book I would be hard-pressed to tell you why there was any interest in the man from this book. He seemed rather rude. Despite that, I really enjoyed the story and the relationship between the partners. So fun, and can't wait to see what they get up to next!
I mostly enjoyed this book. The main characters are lawyers. At the beginning of the book, they take on a murder case. The book follows the 2 main characters through all the stages of the murder trial and various other cases they were working on. There were times I wanted to laugh out loud at some of the things said and done. This book does have drug use and quiet a bit of profanity. Overall, this was a fun and easy read for me.
Well Monica goes and does it again with another hilariously funny murder mystery!
I have been so excited to get more of Alice and Don since the first book came out, and this one definitely hit the nail on the head.
There is so much humor and banter between the Mc’s as well as trying to figure out who the killer was… and then some spice thrown in and you have yourself another great addition to the series.
Monica Hoopes is quickly becoming one of my favorite writers. This is the second book in her hilarious series about two lovable, and often misguided, lawyers. Her writing style and storytelling is superb. Don and Alice are two of the funniest characters, ever. They are either in their own way, or deers in the headlights. Their banter is brilliant. There’s something brewing between these two and I love it! Just an overall great ready!
Alice is funny, smart, and a little sassy. Don is full of fire and ice and I love it. At times he was a bit condescending to Alice, but I think with longtime friends that tends to happen. I was waiting for Alice to get with it and just agree to go out with Jake the whole time!! I enjoyed the book and I think I need to keep reading this series to see what else Don gets Alice into!
This is the legal Odd Couple. A murder case, stalking and vandalism that only they can handle. And they still have never gone to trial. I love Don and Alice. They collect some loonies but they do the right thing by them. These are the perfect books to tickle your funny bone and warm your heart. Highly recommend.
Great book!l love the characters and was so surprised by the ending! Characters are relatable to every day people and kept me on my toes. Finished the book in less than one day and encourage anyone that loves crime novels to try it.
If you need a pick-me-up, grab this book. It is a hilarious, easy to read mystery with memorable characters, wacky situations, and some sexy scenes to keep it interesting. This is a really great read that had me laughting throughout.
5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I loved the first book, this one is even better! The author draws you in, in the first chapter! The characters are so well developed and HILARIOUS! Monica Hoopes did it again! I can’t wait for the 3rd book!
What a fun ride! Such a good read with interesting characters and a twists I didn’t see coming. I didn’t know who the killer was until the end!! Can’t wait to read her next book! Now to make brownies…
Alice and Don the duo that keeps you wanting for more. Lots of laughs and stop and stare moments in This one! It's the second of the series but it's still worth the read. Newer author and she's coming out with a punch with the books she writes
Another well-written book in the hilarious, high quality series of legal romcom mysteries. One day you're tripping over your handbag, and before you know it, everything is going down hill. The murderer caught me by surprise, giggle snort.
Monica has written another fun adventure with Alice and Don! I laughed out loud at Kevin and Regina's antics!! They reminded me of a few people I know! I was surprised at every turn. Looking forward to the next installment!!
This book was trash. I'm not a prude and I throw out some swear words every now and then but not in every other sentence. The vulgar language did nothing for the story. I won't be reading anymore books by this author.
I’ve read both books in this series and am anxiously awaiting the next installment. The lawyers are just trying their best stumbling along with a dash of characters (read clients). I really hope to read more from this author.
Alice and Don are at it again! The hijinx continues and they seem to stumble into more antics in the cases they are taking on. The series is fun, quick reads I look forward to more from this duo
So So fun! I have to say that the relationships between Alice and Don and Alice and Jake are what will keep me coming back for more! Book 3 better pick up during that date! 😆
What a book. I found it hilarious. The description tells what it's about. Recommend you read book 1 first so you are into the characters. A must read. Highly recommend.
