The Gaunt

Rate this book
A GHOSTLY LOVE THAT TRANSCENDS TIME

Emmaline, a frontier butch burned alive as a witch in 1720, still haunted the place where she was murdered when a young suffragette of the 1920s, Beatrice, tried to help her cross over. They fell hopelessly in love instead. Trying to join Em in death, Bea killed herself and found herself chained to the room where she died.

For over a century, they haunted separate rooms of the same house, able to see each other only from a second story window, yearning forever for their lost loves. Their mournful cries gave life to stories of the Gaunt, a ghost who haunted the old Campbell house.

V, a masc presenting handsome ghost hunter and author, knows the legend of the Gaunt and buys the house. On Halloween night, when beautiful kick-ass girly-girl, Nell, shows up Trick-or-Treating, V is totally enchanted. She offers to show her around the haunted house...and introduces Nell to its two ghosts.

With the friendly persuasion of a neighborhood witch, will the two living women give the ghost lovers their one last chance to pass over together, a day of life - in their bodies? And after a century of loving and lusting from afar, what will that mean?

And if they do give up their bodies for a twenty-four-hour period, how will V and Nell be able to act on their undeniable attraction for each other?

About the author

Genta Sebastian

Genta Sebastian runs with scissors, always laughs without shame, sometimes writes naked, and can’t help dreaming big.

A multiple award-winning author, she sometimes writes Sapphic romances, like the Troublemaker series:

When Butches Cry (2nd ed. rel. August, 2023)as:
A Troublemaker Never Cries
A Troublemaker May Surprise (rel. August, 2023)
A Troublemaker Sometimes Lies (exp. rel. date Nov. 2023)
A Troublemaker in Her Eyes (exp. rel. date May, 2024)

She’s also written two novels for children living in Rainbow Families: Riding the Rainbow (GCLS award winner 2015) for middle-school readers, and A Man’s Man for Young Adults.

She stepped into the horror genre with: We Don’t Say Gay in Tranquility Bay! a trigger-warning horror story with a twist.

Lost is a novelette right out of the Twilight Zone. A grieving widow finds a strange child lost in a snowstorm, made of snow and ice.

But she started out writing wlw (women loving women, i.e. lesbian) erotica short stories that range from super-hot sexy sci-fi Martian/Human first contact, to culinary cunnilinguists, to drag kings, to college and tropical vacations, exotic settings, unforgettable characters, and quirky situations. These stories are fully adult and not intended for young audiences.

Wow

A Halloween adventure that could span centuries. A Halloween that started with her niece and nephew, Nell walked up to the haunted house by herself not realizing Eleanor was going to find out she was a untried very powerful witch. That Nell was going to meet her grandmother six times over. The beautiful butch who calls herself V that opened the door would lead Nell on amazing adventures! Enjoy!

This book wasn't the usual ghosts story. And all the characters were very likeable and funny. There was some twisted here and there that might surprise you either in a shock way or a laughable way. The love stories were nice and kinda sad especially with the two ghosts. But everyone gets their Happy Ending. I highly recommend reading this book. You will have a great time with it.

Multiple 3rd Person POV. 4🌟 3🌶️. 218 pages
This is a fun little sapphic ghost story, that I devoured in one sitting. In the beginning up until roughly 35-40% of the book I had no earthly idea what was going on and I would liken it to reading the script of Silver Linings Playbook, as there are multiple people in each scene all talking, but once I got used to the writing style I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

V and Nell have an instant connection that turns into insta-love, there’s a ghost couple that have been separated for a century and an old eccentric witch that wants to help them reunite. Honestly it’s a fun, cooky little sapphic haunting story that I’d recommend checking out. Plus all the characters are wlw and there is actual butch rep!

This is a fun, tension filled Halloween story with a little bit of spice. The mystery of history keeps the readers on their toes throughout. There’s plot twists, romance, witches, lesbians and more. What more can you ask for?

Overall, a super fun read! I would recommend :)

A very different ghost tale!

This paranormal story was so very charming in the beginning. As the story developed it became so much more. Loved all 5 main characters. And those tears towards the end, they were happy tears. Great story!

It is very much smut, but it is also very much an erotic romance with some supernatural elements and fantasy elements so it's not just pure smut.
I was impressed with the language and ways in which the characters were provided with really solid backstories and interesting paths.

Finished this one by skimming. I wouldn't reread but might revisit portions. ;) There are more sexy-times than storyline and much of the narrative is told through dialog which, while I enjoy both sexy-times and dialog, left me craving action of another sort.
