Explore the five kingdoms alongside newly registered Nomad, Lance, as he journeys across sea and sky to find his lost brother!
Lance never wanted to be a Nomad, but on his 19th birthday he gives up his homeland in the Sea Kingdom and starts his journey to find his missing brother–his first destination: the Sky Kingdom. However, things take an unexpected turn when he meets the mysterious Satra and the magical cat Saber who imbues Lance with supernatural powers. When the two decide to join Lance, it ignites a series of misunderstandings that will chase them throughout the kingdoms, branding Lance as a kidnapper with bounty hunters competing for their capture. Together, the trio will face unexpected foes, mysterious new creatures, and their own deep secrets as they band together on a quest to find Lance’s missing brother and, perhaps, company to call home. From creator Captain Juuter comes the first print edition collecting episodes 1-23 of Nomads, originally published on Webtoon.
A missing brother, five kingdoms, a runaway prince, and some tiger-cat magical being?
First off, I loved the art style. The character designs were distinct, and I especially liked Satra and Poko.
While the adventure was enjoyable, I didn't like the catalyst for the plot.
Lance, who now had his Nomad passport, set off to find his missing younger brother somewhere in the other kingdoms. The issue was that Lance could have waited a year for his brother to become an adult, thus being able to register as a Nomad and travel back to his family. This was addressed in the plot, but an inadequate reason was given for Lance not to wait a year.
I didn’t enjoy the humor as much, but it did help maintain the mood of the book. It's a lighthearted story. Nothing angsty or overly joyful.
The world-building was decent. I could follow along easily, although I'm unsure how the cats tigers fit into this. The kingdoms felt small, like islands instead of continents. It seemed like not much time had passed during the travel.
Nomads is one of my favorite webtoons, so of course I had to read this as soon as I learned it was in print! Love rereading the group's shenanigans while waiting for season 3 to come out on the app. And I look forward to meeting Fletcher and seeing more of Poko in book 2!
This volume covers the first 23 episodes of the webtoon version, just about half of season 1. As the print version, it has a few bonus pages, including a map, a brief history, character sheets, and a page about the currently known masks. I really liked these additions, especially the character sheets. I hope they add new ones in future volumes!
Some of the webtoon print adaptations have had panels or even full scenes cut. (Or so I've heard - I haven't gotten around to reading many of the print versions yet.) There were no major changes to Nomads in this volume. While there are a few panel cuts or dialogue changes, they are mostly just to improve the flow of the story, much how I imagine the author would change things if she were to remake the web version. Slightly updated art, better scene flow, etc.
Let's hope I can get my hands on book 2 this July 👀
Sometimes, adventure webcomics drag on and on without anything much really happening, and I'm happy to say that's not the case here. Sure, there's very little forward momentum on the three main plotlines (searching for a lost sibling, runaway prince, and mysterious powerful creature). But this series seems to be less continuous epic and more episodes that build on each other, and we go through a few episodes in this volume. The world it's set in is easy enough to understand and doesn't feel too much like a string of gimmicks. The characters are pretty likable, even the short term side characters. Pretty good art, too.
The watermark on the ARC made this a tougher read than I'd like. If this is their new thing, I'm out. But otherwise, this was a silly, fun book with lots of balls in the air and, despite me thinking at first it was going to be haphazard in its world-building, the kingdom itself and its laws are very well thought out.
Not a manga, but manga-like comics that has likeable and different personalities (not that common in mangas that I have read). Loved the worldbuilding and the overall adventurous spirit it has! I can’t wait to read the second book if it ever comes, at the same time I fear will it keep the quality volume 1 has. I was like a child again reading this :)
Absolutely lovely graphic novel. I've already followed the webtoon since its very early days as a Canvas series, so being able to physically own it is really nice. I love how there's even a page dedicated to making your own Nomad passport, it adds a bit of individuality to each one. The art is also a real treat, it's so lovely and vibrant. I will always recommend people read Nomads :)
I absolutely fell in love with this graphic novel. I can't wait to see what comes next for this dorky lovable trio! I also hope this novel gains more popularity and attention with time because it truly deserves it.
I had a blast with this one, it was absolutely hilarious and I loved the expressions the characters had throughout! I can kind of see some threads of where some plot is headed and I am intrigued about how that is going to play out.
This was awesome! I loved the characters and their adventure and I can’t wait for more! Lance was so much fun and I hope he finds his little brother soon. Satra was awesome and I love that he finally gets to go on the adventure he always dreamed of. Saber was epic, and I can’t wait to learn more about the masks. I loved the pirates they met and need to know more about them.
Lots of fun! The world reminded me a bit of One Piece. The characters were likable and engaging, and I'm looking forward to the second volume next year.
One of my favorite Webtoons now in physical form? YES PLEASE! Love the characters, the art, and the story. I'm gonna get my hands on the next book ASAP, and you should, too! Unless you don't like fun, which would make you boring. So don't be boring!
