Author Note: This prequel novella has been removed from sale as of June 2025. It will now be re-released as part of the updated re-release of Book One: A BOND BEYOND BLOOD. Please stay tuned for that re-release!
Elias Bristol. Vincenzo Ricci. Gannon Hayes. Three vampires with one goal in mind: me.
I’ve dedicated the year since my father’s death to learning how to slay vampires. Specifically, the monster who could have saved him but didn’t. With one of their own training me, I might stand half a chance.
But each training class with Vinny brings us closer together, and things go from complicated to what the actual f*ck when my ex shows up after ghosting me after my father’s funeral and, sure enough, Gannon is now a vampire–with a newfound thirst for my blood.
And sure, two vamps are a lot to handle, but when Elias returns and I fail to kill him even after months of training, my love triangle becomes a freaky foursome–and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t enjoying myself thoroughly.
I picked this one as a freebie, and I'M SO NOT SORRY I TRIED IT!! I LOVED IT AND I NEED MORE! RIGHT NOW! 😂😂⏳️
Does it sound like I'm having a tantrum? Yep, because I do have one! 😂😂 Did I read it in one go in my coffee break! I sure did! ☕️ Did every character intrigue me!? Yaaas, and that's a great thing because usually somebody has to piss me off, but not now, I liked them all, including the FMC! 😍💅 Does it have The Originals vibes!? Yep, it has some, and I'm eating this up! 🩸 Did I just preordered the first book in the series because this was such a teasing prequel!? Yes, yes, I did! 📚
For such a short read, this one packed quite a few things: - a little bit of world building - a little bit of relationship building and a 🥵 scene - mistery, a heroine that needs and wants to be strong, that I hope will be supported and loved as she deserves, later in the series - all main characters are introduced, but then, there's so much more to learn about them, I just can't wait! - cliffhanger; no surprise here, it's a prequel, and a damn good one, for me at least, since I'm hooked!!

Plot: 4/5 • Smut: 2/5 ————> This short little vampire novella packs in a lot with it being 100 something pages. Three vampires all attracted to the same girl. An ex-boyfriend, one who’s been helping her train to fight, and one her family is indebted to.
Again, this is only 100 something pages so there’s very little smut, but it was still really good.
Jack seeks revenge against a vampire who could have saved her father. She trains with a vampire to kill a vampire. However, as she gets closer to her trainer, her ex-boyfriend, who ghosted her after her father's death, returns as a vampire with a thirst for her blood… and the vampire who didn't save her father? We'll see.
Ms. Jameson, this was way too short and way too hot. Hot Vampires are exactly what I needed. The vibes were great and the prequel makes me excited for way more.
I was a little confused about the timelines but after a while I got it. I would have appreciated more of a slower burn - how did they meet? What drew them together? It would've added a little more depth. But also, this is a prequel and I hope we get more in the further books.
This was a snack - now I need the main course. If you want an entertaining book and hot vampires, this is for you!

I have been in a vampire mood for the last two weeks and almost nothing is hitting the spot. WELL this one did and now I’m so disappointed I have to wait months for the next book!
For a prequel I feel like we got so much about these characters (except maybe Gannon but he seems like a washed up frat boy so that’s fine). I am so excited to learn more about the mysterious vampire king and his deal with Jacks dad what is going to happen between Jack and Vinny.
Poor Jacqueline is already dealing with a shit hand at life and now has 3 vampires to deal with.

I was caught by the cover and then description of "The Butcher's Daughter." After reading a sample of the beginning of the story, I had to know what came next. I was intrigued by the idea of Jack taking over for her father, but the vampire he serves gets much more than he expected. Well, so does Jack.
It felt like the story built up the impending confrontation that didn't come - the delivery she was to take over was to be every month, but it has been a year since her father passed. Come to find out the vampire never came back, so it wasn't missed.
Jacqueline, aka Jack, quickly has more than she can handle as an old flame returns, a new one heats up and her goal of confronting her father's vampire finally comes to a head.
The story built well and I was hanging on every word. I was floored by the ending and cannot wait to see what happens next. Story was enough to introduce the characters and world they live in.
This was my first story by the author and I definitely enjoyed it. Dialogue was well written and provided individually to the characters. I look forward to reading more.

WHAT A PREQUEL! Standing ovation please for J Jameson 👏🏻
I grabbed this little number from the Dark Romance SYKD and I’m SO glad I did!
This is probably the best prequel I’ve ever read, it’s SO strong on world building & plot, it’s SO spicy (includes a 2 and a half chapter spicy scene! 😮💨) and I’m absolutely invested.
Did I also mention hot af vampires? 😏
I cannot tell you how quickly you need to go and grab this incredible short story. It will leave you wanting more!
I cannot wait to read the next book - A Bond Beyond Blood 😍
The Butcher's Daughter is a fast-paced paranormal romance novella. What you get...... ♡Supernatural Thriller ♡Paranormal Romance ♡RH ♡Badass FMC ♡Vampires ♡Touch Her and ☠️ ♡Why Choose??? ♡Overprotective MMC
The story sucks you in, leaving you wanting more! You get spice and plot. Good world building and characters who are fascinating. I can't wait for the next book.
This is a RH vampire series, this is just a prequel to the next book and I cannot wait until the next book comes out! The next book will be mfmm.
Jack inherited a Butcher shop after her father's death with the knowledge of a unbreakable bond with her father and another vampire. Due to vengeance she seeks training to defeat him with a guy named Vinny. Sparks fly between them and they the spice is off the charts!! 🔥🔥🔥
This was a quick read with great spice! And it leaves you wanting so much more at the end!
Thanks to the author for allowing me to freely leave an arc review.
To start I’d like to mention that of course my rating is my own personal opinion.
This is a prequel of a book being released in September this year. I really liked this book, as it was a novella and only 99 pages I’m really craving more. I have already got the next book (A Bond Beyond Blood) pre ordered on Amazon!!
I felt like each page was better than the last and the tension amongst the characters was portrayed brilliantly. ** I received an advance review copy for free from booksirens and I am leaving this review voluntarily.**
o.m.g. now I have to wait until September to get the story?! This story, when I say I devoured it.... the ending/ cliffhanger!!! This is a new to me authir so i wasnt sure what to expect. It had great world building, and just the right amount of plot/spicy for being a prequel. I couldnt get over Vinny and really loved Jack. Can't wait to see what's next. Vampire stories are my OG favorite. I'm so glad it was in my recommendations.
very addicting, interesting characters and plot. Picked this up for free on the free romance book day and I will definitely be checking out the rest of this series!

This was okay, it was quite middle of the road for me, it’s only a short prequel and there were parts that felt like the description was going on a tad too long. Of course because it is short it does move quite quickly which then brings a sense of instalove and that personally isn’t my vibe. It was a good read, it read very nicely, the spice was spicy and was easy to digest. If this was the first part of book 1 I think I’d like it more, I’m just not craving to know more right this second based of the prequel. Though I am intrigued by the ending, good series vibes 3⭐️
This quick read left me craving more from Jameson! This short novella offers an enticing glimpse of what book two has in store. The world-building and characters are both fascinating and dynamic, I found myself wishing it were longer. I can’t wait to dive into the next book!
*Thank you to J. Jamron for the copy. I am freely leaving my honest review.
I fell in love with story! It is a prequel to a series… it is an intro to some of characters. I was left swooning and intrigued. I cannot wait to read book 1 and see where this is all going! This left on a little bit of a cliffhanger, but I’m hyped! A solid vampire story. There are some heavy topics throughout so please read TW!
This is my first book from this author and oh my God... I don't know what type of drugs did she put in this but I'm addicted.
The writing, the characters, the plot, the massive amount of tensions... aghh I'm in love. And I NEED more. If this is just prequel, I really don't know what to expect from book one. But I already know it's gonna be amazing.
I picked this book up through an ARc as it look good and it was. I read both books in the series back to back as I wanted to find out what happened between Jackie and the 3 vampires.
We have Eli, who has had a standing order 15th of each month with her father Franco, the butcher to collect animal blood off him. They have a blood pact made when he tried to save his wife while trying to give birth to Jackie.
Franco is dying but refuses help from Eli, once he passes he informs Eli it will go to JACK and the blood pact then gets handed down to all future generations under vampire law.
Franco leaves the shop to Jackie the youngest and on his death bed tries to tell her about the pact. It's not until she finds a letter in his office that she realises it's true and it's determined to avenged her father's passing. She can't believe Eli let her father die.
In the year that follows, Jackie takes lessons at the local gym with Vinny, an ex boxer several decades ago before he was made a vampire. She wants to protect herself against Eli. But there is an undercurrent of sexual tension between both of them.
Then we have Gannon, her childhood sweetheart, who disappeared as she lost her father, who wasn't there to help her with her grief. This additional loss took it's toll on Jackie.
As she is processing her feelings for Vinny and their relationship, Gannon comes back on the scene, and she understands why he left, but she still wants nothing to do with him.
As she is dealing with that surprise, Eli is once more on the scene and what a surprise he gets!
I loved all 4 characters in this book. You have grief, anger, revenge, and the startng of something special with Vinny. But Vinny soon realises that her Ex and Eli are going to make his relationship with Jackie very hard.
Gannon has loved Jackie all his life, she has always been his girl, is there any way she will forgive him and take him back , can he compete against Vinny?
Eli has plans for Jackie, but what will he do with Vinny and Gannon?
As I said above, I finished this one and luckily enough I had the 2nd book in ARC as well as started on that to continue the story of the 4 with enjoying this one so much.
A good storyline, great characters, love the tension between all 4 of them.

I really tried to stick this one out but overall it just fell a little flat for me, and I really had high hopes.
The first two chapters I felt were great openers to lure me into the story and see how our FMC would handle loss and a change of plans in life, but then the beginning skipped to two years ahead, missed the FMC and MMC meeting for the first time, how emotions were handled and how the blood oath got carried over from one person to the next. I just felt like a lot of details were skimmed whilst the story got straight into lusty details and scenes with an insta lust and not much suspense and relationship building.
It feels like some descriptions/sentences get repeated quite within the same chapter which threw me a little in places and gave me a sense of Deja-vu, but I appreciated that descriptions were quite clear and concise so I could distinguish the characters easy enough.
The plot itself was just dangling in front of you with no real progression, it went from owning the shop and awaiting Elias return, to bam he’s back and taken over half the council already whilst Jacks at home having lots of sex.
The attack happened in the last 5% of the book with an instant heal/fix. There was just a lot that didn’t really line up or make a lot of rhyme or reason.
Although I didn’t enjoy the plot and progression, I can definitely see and appreciate where the author wanted to go and I didn’t hate the writing style, it’s just one that wasn’t for me unfortunately.

"The Butcher's Daughter" by J. Jameson had me on the edge of my seat from the very first page. The intricate storyline, filled with suspense, and romance kept me hooked until the very end.
Each character had their own unique personality and motivations, making them all the more intriguing. Vinny's unwavering dedication to helping and training Jack added depth to his character, it was cute that he continued to train her even when he knew it wouldn't be a lot against vamps. Elias, brought an electrifying energy to the story, his presence added a layer of complexity to Jack's journey, challenging her perceptions and pushing her to confront her inner demons. I love that he entertained Jacks revenge through that fight scene. I find myself wondering how will Gannon grovel to redeem himself in jacks mind.
Ooooo and the possibility of Thea and Gio's budding romance is fun! The way Jack reacted makes it seem it's more intimate/romantic than his past flings.
I knew there was going to be a cliffhanger but I was NOT expecting that. It was an amazing “ending” and left me ready for more! I admire Jack's resilience and determination, and I can't wait to see how she navigates the challenges ahead. Overall, "The Butcher's Daughter" is a gripping read and I can't wait to read the next book!

This prequel it's different from other why choose books. Ahh I want to read more already. I love that it was multiple pov, always my favorite. Vinny is already my favorite one, Im interested to know more about her ex (although i dont really like that he left her when she needed him) and I'm feeling enemies to lovers with Elias. I'm so sad that the first book in the series isn't coming out since later since this seems like the kind of book you just want to deep dive & get into it. I get kinda scared of the ending, because Vinny made it seem that he would get revenge & hurt the vampire who hurt Jack, until he found out who that vampire really was. Will he really be on her side & choose her over their vampire king? I want to find out more about Elias because he dont seem as evil as what Jack thought he was, okay yes he did kinda beat her up but she attacked him first and he held back his strength to not hurt her to badly, wished he didnt punch her though but he probably felt her need for vengeance. I want more, im excited. I definitely recommend it & I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily!

Beautiful book, sublime, I really enjoyed meeting Jackie/Jack/Jacqueline Fiorino, Gannon, Vinny and Elias Bristol, the king of the vampires. This is about a world where vampires and humans live together. And like in any society, there are humans or vampires who have a different opinion. But in this part we get to know Jack. And the book starts with the death of her father. Jack doesn't understand why she had to come back to take over her father's company. And she is certainly not aware of the agreement that was made between her father and Elias. Elias, the vampire who, according to her, did not save her father and who could have done just that. I want to tell so much here, but I'm afraid to tell the story, but this book is also about the difficult relationship with her ex-Gannon. But it is clear that there are two, no three vampires who want something from Jack, the question is does she want this too. This was a truly surprising, enjoyable and exciting reading experience. Really delicious and highly recommended!
It says a lot about this book that as soon as I finished it, I was eager to pick up the next one!
Jack, aka the butcher’s daughter, spends the year following her father’s death training to kill vampires to avenge his death. Said trainer? A vampire. Her good for nothing ex who left her shortly after her father’s death to grieve alone? Yep, also a vampire.
This prequel was well written, spicy, and left me wanting more. I’m so intrigued to see how the dynamics between all the characters progress. I’ve read many paranormal romances but there’s a unique bond between Jack and one of the men I’ve never seen- and I’m absolutely here for it.
I gave this prequel 4 stars because the background chapters felt rushed, but that was to be expected in only 100 pages. Despite that, it did not hinder my experience with the plot at all and I will absolutely be continuing this series. I highly recommend picking up this book!

This novella was surprising, intriguing and rapidly drew me in to this tale of one brave young girl and three very different vampires. It packs a helluva lot into its short length to set the scene for the coming story. I read it through in one go.
The characters are so well depicted I could feel them perhaps that’s why I found it so absorbing. Then there is the way that grief is dealt with.
Not just Jacqueline’s grief for her father’s death but how others deal with her grief and their reactions to it. Unfortunately it is often so true in life that people don’t know how to deal with people who are grieving and the rawness of it and so avoid them. In young Gannon's case perhaps it is his own unresolved issues with grief that leads to him abandoning her.
So many layers to this story. I would happily recommend this to those who like a paranormal romance with a bit of spice.

A brilliant vampire and I am so hoping Reverse Harem story from this Author, but with so much potential for the next instalment I can't wait to see how things between these four interesting characters is going to evolve. As a prequel it so nicely sets up the introduction to the four major characters, Jack, the human set amongst the three vampires of Vinny, Gannon and Elias.
Defintely some nicely orchestrated moments between Jack (Jacqueline) and Vinny and what looks like some interesting sexual tensions starting to spark from Jacqueline's sense of curiosity towards Gannon and her very weird bond with Elias. I loved the sense of inner resiliency and strength of Jack's character and her devotion to her father.

The Butcher's Daughter is a prequel to a Bond Beyond Blood, which comes out in September. This was a great little taste of what's to come. It does end on a cliffhanger, and I'm interested in seeing where the rest of this series goes. I really felt for Jacqueline "Jack" Fiorino and the grief she struggled with after her fathers passing, but she has potential to be a badass FMC. So we'll see how she grows. And I'm pretty sure I know I already love Vinny, and Elias has potential so I can't wait to find out more about him and their connection. Plus how Gannon gets back in her good graces.
This prequel really has me craving for the first book. I cannot wait until it comes out. It was a perfect introduction to the story and the characters. It gives a taste in what happens. I made the mistake of starting this book at 11pm, because then I could not go to sleep until I finished it! Luckily its a short prequel, so it only took a couple of hours. This is one of the best prequels that I have read. Its dark, emotional, and has intrigue. I cannot wait to learn more about Jack, Vinny, and Elias. Right now I am not a fan of Gannon, I sure hope he redeems himself as he is going to be a MMC.
