Why would two hot brothers like Chase and Mason want me?I've never been a girl who had hordes of men around her. Quite the opposite. I'm not even good at magic and left the magical world to own a gym. But after a tragedy befalls my best friend, I have more power than I've ever known before. The hottest wolf shifters I've ever met come looking for me, needing my magic to break a curse for their family. The attraction I feel to the two brothers has to be one-sided, after all, men like that never go for me. So, I work the spell and help their parents, assuming I'll never see Mason and Chase again. But boy was I wrong, the brothers are back and determined to make me their mate. They have to be lying, surely there's something else they want from me? I can't be their Fate... not a curvy girl like me.*** 'Fated to Wolves' is the first book in the 'Power Magic' series. All of the stories are MFM menage wolf shifter romance, steamy enough to make you blush, standalone, and with a gorgeous, powerful BBW heroine.

I didn't realize until I started reading that I had read a book by this author before. And it was basically the same exact plot. So, eh.
It is an OK book with no glaring issues plot-wise or narratively, other than lack of depth. The world, while (I'm assuming paralleling the real world) is still too vague to have any idea what the rules are. Which is unfortunate. The premise sounds interesting, what little information we are given (levels of magic, animosity between magics and shifters) is far outweighed by what we don't know: how magic works, the rules, why magics and shifters hate each other...
I wish I could say that the lack of plot is intentional, that this book is intended to be read as more of a PWP, focused on the spice, but there is maybe 1-2 spicy scenes that happen towards the end of the book. They are ok, but definitely not enough (in quantity or quality) to justify an entire book. And there was an attempt at plot so I don't think that is the case.
On the other hand, I'm not sure the book knows what message it is trying to put out there. Not even going into the fact that the wish that "every big girl's magic matched her strength and size" potentially has massive issues (all of them? Even the humans? The psychos? - I mean size doesn't determine your sanity or goodness - and define 'strength'. Our FMC gets magic boosts when she works out so does that mean that bigger sedentary girls don't get magic?)... I'm of course talking about the message on loving yourself so long as you understand that no one else possibly could.
Our FMC is consistently vacillating between being proud to be big and insecurity. As a bigger girl, I get that the judgy stares or 'helpful' comments of others can lead to insecurity. But Tania is insistent that she loves her curves, her size... while simultaneously comparing herself constantly to other smaller skinnier women (like her mother) and deeming herself unlovable and unworthy of the brothers. Either you love your body or you don't. Sure, bigger girls aren't for everyone, but if you love yourself why is it so hard to believe that others might? This leads to everyone just constantly validating the FMC and telling her how beautiful and desirable she is. Its exhausting and off putting.
And honestly, so is she. No one in the book even ever mentions her size other than her. There is a brief scene in the beginning when a skinny girl walks in her gym and apparently hates her on sight because she is big. Not because she is rude or judgey herself (she literally judges the girl for walking into her "serious" gym because they don't do Pilates or classes - serious power lifters only - but there is a pink gym down the street that would be perfect for her). Nope, had to be cause she's a "big" gym owner.
She even goes as far as to do a spell to undo something she has no knowledge of to "free" the brothers from being stuck with her. The book tries to play it off like what she's really insecure about is that her magic levels are artificially increased, but at no point is she insecure about her magic after she gets the boost. Only ever her body.
Based on the epilogue, the next book in the series is most likely going to be the same exact thing again (a bigger girl who doesn't believe she's attractive enough for her shifter mates) so I'm good.
There's no need to lie to ourselves; the whole thing is an excuse to write sex scenes, so I will not nitpick the plot. And the sex scenes were okay. But I WILL rant about the characters and how they are written because romance cannot work without considering personality factor. That being said, I hate this protagonist. Tania is an inconsistent, if not awful, protagonist. As someone who's not skinny, or thin, even beautiful herself, I find Tania unlikeable to the point it's frustrating. Yeah I get it, people tend to look at bigger girls a certain way, and I'm not even denying that sometimes it messes with the self-esteem but Tania claims that she loves her curves and all, so to hear her keep saying "Why me?" or "...the burden of being married to a woman like me" or every other variation of the same sentiment over and over again like a broken record drives me into a rage. She sounds like someone drowning in the ocean of self-hatred despite all of her self-affirmation. I can't even decide which one is a lie, that she loves her body the way it is (because if you really love yourself, I believe that you can accept that you are lovable to some extent), or that she cannot believe other people loving her.
I hate that this lame excuse of a protagonist makes eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeveryone (and when I say everyone, it's everyone) has to convinced her that she's gorgeous, beautiful, desirable, sexy, strong, independent, whatever positive adjective one may say as a compliment. Her mother. Her father. Her friends. Her gym staff. Her so-called fated wolves. Nobody in this story is exempted from showering Tania with praises and reassurance. I find this makes quite a self-absorbed character, and I don't respect it when someone does that.
I liked there was a little plot to it at the beginning and the slow burn to then ending chapters.
Only downside was just how overly insecure she FMC was. I’m my mind I would think being in a magical world you’d believe fated mates etc much more. And the fact we didn’t really get any idea why she was that insecure only briefly mentioning kids in school then ex boyfriend etc.
Other than that it was great.
(Also forgive me review. I’m starting this year off by making sure I write out my reviews mainly for myself to go back on)
She's a witch just an ordinary one no big powers she's a big girl just like her dad who's a Warnock he mums a great witch she owns her own gym her best friend that's gay did something that changed things for her and then one of her friends asks her to help some friends of her there shifters werewolves they need a witch to help with there parents who had a spell put in them but the minute she meets these shifters who are brothers she feels something
I really enjoyed the story I love how she was just so unsure of herself because of her size and had to come to terms with it. that she was lovable. what I hated was that I listened to this on audio and it was computer-generated voice, therefore all the characters sounded the same and it made me feel like it was a sapphic romance because the men did not sound like men.
Loved this book! The magic system is easy to understand. I enjoyed the big girl FMC , the obsessive MMCs. I even enjoyed the parents 😆 . I feel like Jack(FMCs dad) could have his own story. I love the FMC isnt what most FMCs are described as these days. A variety is nice! I will definitely be continuing with book 2!
Just enough kinks to keep the story interesting. But definitely not for the teenagers adults strictly. Loved the raunchiness. I love soft core porn gives the reader just enough to keep reading.
I love a good shifter vs witch story. It was fun and heart pounding, I really liked the characters and their relationships. It has a good moral undertone and I wish more people learned to be kind. I'm looking forward to book two.
What a fantastic read! Amelia you have created a well written story that intrigued and interested me, I read it in one sitting, I am looking forward to reading more!
