A book brimming with savvy insight into the canine mind, leadened with a penchant for animal cruelty that recurs too frequently to ignore. Koehler's intent is to endow the dog with "a birthright that he has in common with all of God’s creatures: the right to the consequences of his own action." There is much to commend the spirit of Koehler's injunction, but the methods he prescribes - i.e., electrifying a culling chicken and offering it to dogs to preclude further charges - suggest an unreformed barbarity.
