A Fairy Princess with no power is married off to the enemy who she believes killed her brother. But when her new husband offers to help her unlock her magic, she must make a choice between love and revenge…
Who ever heard of a fairy princess with no magic? Well, that happens to be my fate. I am Alira Shiningstar of the Royal house of the Seelie Court. I am descended from a long line of powerful Fae, and yet I have no power of my own.
I might be forgiven for having no magic, but I have no beauty, either. I am curvy where I should be thin and my hair is dark instead of blonde. I do not look like the other Fae maidens…so why is it that Liath Blackthorn, the Prince of our sworn enemy, the Unseelie Court, wishes to marry me?
Liath doesn’t look like a proper Fae either—he is tall and beastly with curving horns and blazing bronze eyes. He tells me that I do have magic—that it is buried inside me. And only he can bring it out.
But the things he wants to do to unlock my hidden power leave me hot and trembling. Surely it isn’t right to do such things, even with one’s husband…is it? I don’t know if it is or not—I only know that the touch of my new husband’s hands on my body makes me quiver with need. And inside me I feel a force growing…a shadow that is bigger than both of us.
What happens next? You’ll have to listen to this Enemies to Lovers, He Falls First, Praise K*nk, Who Did This To You, Sex Magic, Dark Fantasy Romance to find out!
Author's Spice note—this one gets spicy. Don't say I didn't warn you. : )
Evangeline Anderson is a registered MRI tech who would rather be writing. And yes, she is nerdy enough to have a bumper sticker that says “I’d rather be writing.” Honk if you see her! She is thirty-something and lives in Florida with a husband, a son, and two cats. She had been writing erotic fiction for her own gratification for a number of years before it occurred to her to try and get paid for it. To her delight, she found that it was actually possible to get money for having a dirty mind and she has been writing paranormal and Sci-fi erotica steadily ever since.
I honestly don't know what to rate this. 2... maybe 3 stars ✨
This was an odd, smutty read. Made me cringe more times that i could count, but hey i still found it cute so cant rlly hate it.
➤ arranged marriage ➤ fae royals ➤he falls first ➤ curvy fmc ➤ sex magic?? they made flowers bloom with orgasms ➤breastfeeding kink ➤praise kink ➤enemies to lovers ish
Fmc has been looked down upon all her life due to her lack of magic , being bullied by her cousins and body shamed. She hates herself and her body, until her husband shows her otherwise. He is so sweet, never forced himself on her , takes care of her and shows just how much he loves her the way she is. I adore that. He never wanted her to change, just wanted her to be happy and realize how beautiful she is.
This has a lot foreplay. Like a lot of it. The sex magic, idk what to even call it. But pleasure gives them magic, so... ya know.. they practice a lot. They literally made flowers bloom by cumming all over.??
The writing is a little awkward, cringey, especially in the magic smut scenes but i powered through and survived. Their love story is cute, a very satisfying ending, so plus for that. I've read worse.
Like the previous books I've read from author, the fmc is a curvy woman and a lot of her struggles can be resonated with how difficult it is to fit into the society's unattainable beauty standards.
The story begins with Alira, the main mc who is a fairy princess with no magic, married off to the enemy Prince Liath who she believes killed her brother. She then navigates her new life with her husband and situations begin to arrise which leads her to question everything she's ever known and worse, now the fate of the two kingdom and everyone she loves depends upon her
This was a fae romantasy which is a bit different from her usual Alien romance books. As usual the book is well written and has an interesting storyline. Hoping the author writes a book 2 for The Shadow Fae series!
First read of 2024 and I absolutely LOVED it. No one does it better than Evangeline Anderson. I've been saying that forever ‼️‼️ I've been saying it in ever single review I've done of her books ‼️ Liath and Alira are absolutely ADORBS and GOALS. The praise kink healed ME LMAOOOOOOO 💀 I totally relate with Alira. Man I wish men irl were made like Liath tho. It's a very good thing fiction exists and living vicariously is a thing which I'll continue doing 💅 hope to read more soon.
I'll do a real review later when it's not 4 am and I don't have a doctor's appointment at 8 am.
I have a crick in my neck from cringing. The entire book. *sigh* It was… readable…
Smut-heavy from a “step-by-step, use almost every cringe-worthy word possible during smutty scenes, teach the insanely sheltered, barely out of puberty girl how to do anything with her or her new husband’s body parts” kind of view. Because her magic, that she never knew she had, is - of course - based on pleasure. So… she basically pleasures her way through accidentally fulfilling a prophesy.
Btw, they only have sex once…… 🤔
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I appreciated how these two (the hero & heroine) actually talked to each other and had meaningful conversations!! Unlike the last book I read where there wasn't a single sentence of meaningful conversation...only with other people, RIP. Liath and Alira had good conversations and great sex, lol. I also appreciated how the cover models looked like them. Too often the FMC is described as plus size in the book, but the cover model is thin. Not here; the cover model is curvy and nicely plus-sized. Also, her breasts are big (like F maybe?) as they're described as being in the book!
I liked how Alira, the FMC, grew into her magic, looks, and confidence and how Liath showed her that she was beautiful despite being told her whole life how ugly and fat she was. This book also had sex magic, lol. (Using pleasure to do magic)
It was predictable who killed Alira's brother and , but I'm not sure it was supposed to be a secret or mystery. Also, I correctly suspected that Liath knew who killed her brother, too. There were one or two times that Alira and the others seemed almost dumb for not catching on sooner when the reader (or at least I) knew, .
Even though I wrote "I knew it/I knew" at least three times, I also wrote "aww" and "cute" three times at the end.
I hate how these days everything is so PC that she had to change "brownie" to another spelling in order not to offend anyone. I haven't read much fantasy, but I do know that brownies are household servants. The last time I read about brownies I was reading Fablehaven. I loved that series.
I would be down to read another book in the series; EA isn't sure if she'll continue the series or not because everything's resolved, but there are two possibilities for another book. However, I am more interested in the Kindred series.
I don't typically read fantasy romance, especially about faeries. (Omg, why did I spell it that way? Lol.) I liked how Evangeline incorporated the mythology of the Unseelie and Seelie Court (I was Googling that) without making me ever feel bogged down with the world-building, a reason why sometimes I hesitate to read fantasy.
This book was spicy, but not spicier than most of her books I don't think. I did add "praise-kink" as a tag. (It'll bug me how I've read a few praise kink books before, but they won't be tagged.) It is a little annoying how the couple only has sex once towards the end to solve the plot, and these two didn't have much of an excuse to wait because they were married, unlike the Kindred couples. I want multiple vaginal sex scenes, lol, not just oral and other stuff all the time.
It was funny how Alira sucked his cock like it was a lollipop. I saw one reviewer saying that once you've read one EA book, you've read them all, and while I disagree (almost all her plots are different, and she's written so many books, that must not be easy), the heroes are always similar, love eating pussy, and dirty talk similarly. Though I don't recall the Kindred guys doing praise kink, but their was a line uttered by Liath that was so similar to something I read before in one of her books.
this is somewhere between a 3.5-4, i can’t really decide where it sits.
i went into this knowing it was labelled as an erotica, so i can’t really complain about that content (although, i didn’t particularly like it, in case you’re wondering. i didn’t lower my rating because of it.) the romance itself was well written, developed and really kinda cute. i’ve decided i quite like the praise kink.
my biggest issue with this book was how easy the conclusion was (and how they achieved it …. i’ve tagged a spoiler below but iykyk).
i also really hate “babe” and “baby” in a fantasy setting. something about it just feels wrong and off to me.
The author has taken the fantasy world by storm! This book was absolutely amazing! The storyline, the characters, the brief touches of well known Seelie and Unseelie history, it all came together so beautifully. I was completely captivated and didn’t even notice the passing of time as I read until the very end. I agree with the author that this story is nearly complete, but who wouldn’t want to see little glimpses of their lives, and future baby bumps/babies, as they help the lovely, shining Lilly by sending a forgotten knight to save her from the evil twin tricksters. But whether the King and Queen will get to be benevolent benefactors is entirely up to the author.
I enjoyed this. It is mainly sex or sex related but the plot makes it important and enjoyable to read. This book I thinks covers most of the genres like virgin, praise, taboo, and more. I'm left wondering why the girl in the bar had so much magic, though? Overall good read.
From the very beginning I loved Alira. She was beautiful, kind and smart. After her brother's murder she was betrothed to Liath , rumored to be her brother's killer and true evil. Liath is large and gorgeous. I'll let you discover his character yourself. Without giving the plot away I want to say, during the reading of this fantastic story, we get truly evil , depraved and insane people. We also meet very kind people and get an epic love story in a Fae kingdom. I loved how Liath got Alira to see how truly beautiful she was and helped build her confidence and powers. Their intimate scenes are extremely hot and intense. Very enjoyable to read. I absolutely loved their story! Lots of action and intrigue too. There are wonderful support characters along with an All Seeing pool .
I highly recommend this book. I was given an Advanced Readers Copy for my honest review.
I love this author and couldn't wait to give this series a go. In the world of the fae, dark and light, summer and winter we have the story of Alira. Born into royalty she doesn't fit the norm. She's curvaceous with blue hair, the total opposite of her family. Her magic doesn't appear to exist, she's bullied all her life. Liath is from the other side of the veil, he's entering an arranged marriage with Alira and taking her away. He's very different, will he be as terrifying as he looks? These two were pure magic together, she's part of a prophecy and I enjoyed watching their romance unfold. The surrounding characters were all great, whether you love or hate them they entertained and were thoroughly enjoyable. Yay for the ending, revenge couldn't be sweeter. I really loved this story, great job Evangeline.
Hot! Hot! Hot! I needed a cold shower after reading this book. Poor Alira has been abused and rejected all her life for being different than the other elves in the Seelie Court. Liath is the prince of the Unseelie Court and offers for her hand in marriage. He helps Alira find and develop her magic and sets her on course to her true destiny. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and hope there will be more stories in this world.
I so so wanted to like this book - I love the premise and I think the author has an amazing imagination and can write excellent couples and sexual tension that pulls you in. But not this time. This book just fell completely flat for me. There was no chemistry between the MMC and FMC and the magical mystery also felt… boring. I was being told there was tension and mystery but I didn’t feel it.
So this is big on MC insecurity and heavy on praise kink. I honestly had no idea what that was before this book used it so often. Suffice it to say I didn’t like it. Also there is incest that was just disturbing. Honestly I don’t think I liked this one at all and perhaps her hooks are not for me 🤷🏽♀️
Omg this book should have came with a warning ⚠️ The suckling of the nectar and the breastfeeding kink done it for me- I did finish the book- it wasn’t terrible but it was a cringy smut. If that floats your boat then go ahead, I’m still laughing about the cringy plot.
While the underlying premise of the story is quite cool, the magic system is based on pleasure and pain, meaning a lot of the plot is driven by the spice. And to each their own, but incest, breastfeeding and sex ed is not for me.
What the fuck did I just read, it was like a train wreck but I just kept reading it 🤣 Be ready for copious use of the terms "good girl", "cream", "sweet honey", "nectar" and dialogue so cringey I was chuckling and could not bring myself to stop reading
Meh. It wasn't bad. I finished it. I was hoping for more of the sexy vibes of the kindred series... But for what it was, it wasn't bad. I didn't like the incest.
This book is not a book I ever expected to pick up, and it was on a whim because it was offered as an audiobook arc from Libro.FM so I thought I would give it a try and I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed it. Is it a five star read? Absolutely not, but did I enjoy it from covered to cover? Yes!
This book follows a fairy princess who is from the Sealy Court and she has no magic. She also stands out because she is thick woman and all the women in the Celia Court are the opposite. Since she doesn’t fit in, she ends up being betrayed to the prince of the unseal Court, who asked for her hand in marriage. Convinced that he was the one that killed her brother in the most recent war, she agrees to the marriage in order to seek revenge. But after the wedding night, revenge is definitely not in the cards.
The plot were very obvious in this book. I basically wrote out the book in my head, despite that it was quite enjoyable. From the first page, I immediately connected to the main character. The way that she thought of herself, and saw herself being a bigger woman in an environment, full of thin people, and constantly being judged and ridiculed for the way her body is no matter what she did, the weigh, the author physically described her body is exactly the way I would describe mine. It is the first time I have ever physically felt connected to a character, and it immediately made me love the book.
The prince of the unseal is definitely interesting character. He’s your typical, dark prince, that is actually very kind and loving. The romance I felt was a little rushed. Considering these two are enemies based on the higher key of the world, I really wanted more of animosity and resistance and anger, and hate between the two characters. And I just didn’t get that.
The spicy scenes were absolutely ridiculous, but enjoyable. And I think that’s what you have to think about going into this book, you have to think that I am reading a ridiculous book. And if you can get over that you will definitely enjoy this spicy, dark fantasy romance.
The audiobook was very well done, and the narrators did a phenomenal job. I did not physically have this book and yet I think I enjoyed it better as an audiobook anyways.
A simply wonderful start to this new series, wonderful characters and scenario Another wonderful start to the Shadow Fae series and I guarantee that if you in the past have been a fan of Evangeline Andersons writing you are going to be totally blown away by this simply wonderful first book in the series. In this world of the fae and the dark and the light, Summer and Winter you will learn all about the lives of Alira who was born within a royal family, she is not the usual royal however as it appears that she is without magic which is previously unheard of. Laith is from the other side of the veil and he is about to enter into an arranged marriage and taking Alira away from all that she knows to a place where everything she has ever known is totally different is quite a shock to her. Together however these two are special together, they are pure magic together and when they are together, they are so very strong and I guarantee that yiu will love every page of this book. You will be left looking forward to the next book in this series and I guarantee that you will read this in one sitting. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the wonderful writing.
Great standalone novel with the possibility of a spinoff or more to come. I loved both the main characters Princess Alira and Prince Liath. They both showed strength, love, and empathy in their own ways. The two make a fantastic contrasting couple.
The plot moves along at a great pace and will have you glued to the pages. The evil characters don’t escape punishment and Evangeline Anderson delivers both a HEA and HFN.
This is a complete story without any cliff-hangers. Princess Alira and Prince Liath do have hot, spicy chemistry, as a reader might expect with an Evangeline Anderson book. The Throne of Shadows was a fun read with lots of magic!
I loved the cover art! It was a visual representation of the characters descriptions in the story.
It's a cute sexy read. Not perfect but light-hearted and fun. The end was pretty predictable but it didn't bother me much because I bought into the relationship. I also enjoyed that The princess was "curvy" and the hero just loved it. She had low self-esteem in several areas including her looks, and he really tried to impress upon her how beautiful she is as well as help her deal with some things that she felt shame about sexually. Which in turn really helped her work through some of the issues she had from her past. I also like that this couple had really good communication skills and were ultimately really healthy. So many of these types of stories, the relationship is toxic and this was a refreshing twist to have a pretty much healthy relationship even though it was an arranged marriage. That was unique and different.
Coming from someone who doesn't like fantasy worlds about Fae and Faeries I really enjoyed this one!
It's got elements of EA that you would expect: extra spicy content, brooding hero, plus size heroine, but also there's something a little different and unexpected about it from EA's other books. I'm not sure what it is but whatever it is, worked for me. The pacing was excellent and for me it had the right amounts of hero-heroine love sections, action and intrigue. I think it was nice to have the different locations and EA did a good job building this new (to her repertoire) world. I'm excited to see more of these books and hope they'll live up to the standards of this one. I really, really enjoyed this hero too. It's a cute read about a heroine who learns to find power in herself and a hero who supports her in her journey.
I loved this story. I really enjoy all of EA's fay/fairy books (see also: Swann Sister Chronicles)
What prevents this from being a 5 star book, in my opinion, is EA's unfortunate tendency to repeat herself, ad nauseam. I loved the story, but there's probably a section in there where, over the course of 10 or so pages, our heroine proclaims that she's going to kill her new husband at least 30x. It just grates on me.
The other thing that bothered me in this book, but I'm completely fine with it in other books, was Liath's swearing. It felt very out of character and often pulled me out of the moment. I do not have issues with character's potty mouths in general. This was very specific to Liath, who was just too kind and evolved for me to buy all the cursing.
On the other hand, the praise kink, ugh, so my hot button. Swoon.
3.5 stars. Alira, the female Seelie princess lead who has no personal magic, has been told all her life that she’s ugly and disgusting because she doesn’t physically conform to Seelie beauty standards. When she is told she’s to marry Liath, the male Unseelie prince lead, she’s sure he’ll be no more pleased with her than anyone else. But Liath tells her she’s beautiful and that she has magic and he can help her draw it out. Now they just have to avenge her brother’s death and rejoin the separated kingdoms…
This story is female lead POV, and a sweet and spicy fantasy romance. I admit that I found the ongoing and almost complete naïveté of Alira wearing. I didn’t find it particularly plausible and it irritated me. BUT I did enjoyed Liath’s gentle patience and the cute and steamy exploration scenes very well done and highly enjoyable. I appreciate that the story arc and the romance are complete.
Story was ok. Very predictable & was kind of disappointed when I reached 80%+ of the book and it was over. The rest was excerpts from the Kindred Series and a list of books. Usually I am at 95%+ before a promo book or list of books shows up. I have already read a portion of the Kindred Series and stopped at book 6 (out of 30). I love the sci-fi romance category with at least a little mystery, but it was obvious how the story was going to play out in the first few chapters.
If you are looking for a "light" read with predictable outcomes, this book is for you. It is one of those books you can enjoy without having to put too much concentration into it.
