A chance meet brings two fated mates together, but can they overcome their personal hurdles to make their relationship work, when one of them isn't quite as human as the other?

Khush

What were the chances of running into my mate the first time I visited the human world? Almost none. And yet, there he was, with sparkling blue eyes, brightly painted nails, a wide smile, and a sassy as fuck mouth.

There was no way I was dropping the ball on this, but it wasn't as easy as asking him out, even though he'd left me his number on my coffee cup. Being a supernatural in the human world was tough, but bringing a human into your world? Yeah, I was going to need some help.

Dustin

Meeting the sexiest man alive in a coffee shop wasn't something I'd anticipated, but I couldn't just let him disappear into the crowd. When the man actually texted me, I soon figured out he was much more than a handsome face.

Khush was a little grumpy, a little shy, and all kinds of sweet. I had a habit of jumping in feet first into new relationships, but for the first time I felt like it wouldn't end in a disaster. Finding out there was more to Khush's world than I could've ever imagined was just the cherry on top.

The Naga is an MM paranormal romance featuring a grumpy but also shy naga, a bright, cheerful femme trans man, a ginger cat called Scrappy, and a community of supernatural beings living in a safe haven called The Sanctuary. It's the first book in The Sanctuary series and can be read as a standalone.

- sunshine femme trans masc mc x grumpy-ish Naga mc
- fated mates
- found family

On Khush’s first time venturing out of The Sanctuary and into the human world, he meets his adorable mate Dustin at the local coffee shop—not that Dustin is aware how momentous their first meeting is.

As excited Khush is about having found his mate, he isn’t entirely sure how the human will handle knowing he’s a Naga, but once Dustin learns the truth he takes it in stride.

Their relationship goes from 0 to 100 but as fast paced as it may be, these two were freaking adorable! & I loved all the side characters from The Sanctuary as well! Just all around a sweet, lighthearted read with a sprinkle of spice!

Writing not for me.
Too many non important details, like a side character’s “blond ringlets flying about in the gentle breeze”
& Dialogue feels stiff.

I really enjoyed the characters and a series about others in the Sanctuary would be wonderful. Both MCs have had quite a bit of trauma in their past but despite of that both were particularly kind and sweet. I really appreciated the different trans experience, it certainly doesn't have to mean having to be extra masculine or hating everything about your body (and I am confident in writing this as Dustin's experience is the closest I've found to my own personal situation).

More ARCs. "The Naga" is the first novel in Stella Rainbow's newest series The Sanctuary: Forest.

Goodness were these two adorable as hell! Dustin was sweet and sassy and happy. Khush was shy and grumpy (for everyone but his mate). But they had each other, and a found family of supernatural beings (living in a safe haven and supporting each other no matter what)--oh! and an orange cat named Scrappy!

There wasn't much angst at all in this book, some past traumas touched on, but nothing major. They fell into each other perfectly and made each other better and fit each other and just Fate did good on that one (and Stella). There was minor spice (well, there wasn't much spice, but that doesn't mean the spice that was there wasn't spicy) and lots (loooooots) of fluff.

I feel like there was more background to this novel, even though this was the first novel of series. Either way, I am now obligated to add Stella to my to-binge list (a real hardship ;) ).

Trigger Warnings: toxic parents, minor notes of transphobia, and more.

I'm having a hard time deciding how to write this review as I didn't dislike this story but I also didn't love it either. I'll start with our MC's Khush and Dustin. I thought Khush 's character was really unique and interesting, I liked learning more about his species and all of what they were capable of, along with learning what he himself can do. Dustin's character was so bubbly and sassy, I liked how he let himself feel the way he felt without trying to talk himself out of it too much. I also enjoyed how he was so supportive and accepting of not only Khush, but of everyone else who lives at The Sanctuary as well.

My main problem with this story in particular is the pacing, things happened way too fast, and because the MC's got together so early on in the story, it felt like the rest of it was just added to make the book longer. It didn't really add anything to the overall storyline, nor did it add more depth to the characters. I wish that the MC's didn't get together right at the beginning. I think this story would've benefited from their romance being dragged out a bit. Or since they did get together early on, make the rest of the story enticing to keep me engaged. Rather than just having things be a filler.

For instance, Khush's mother calls which causes Khush to collapse. You would think that would be where the story would go deeper into Khush's past and have some sort of setback with Khush's journey... But it happened and then things were back to normal on the next page. I did like this story, and while I didn't love the pacing I still thought the characters were great.

If you're reading this review I implore you to give this story a chance for yourself, because even though the pacing felt off to me, it might be perfect to you.

Welcome back to the Sanctuary. We finally get a glimpse into the life of our shy and grumpy Naga, Khush.
Upon his first exploration into the human world he ends up finding something he has always wanted, his mate.
In the form of a femme trans man, Dustin is everything that completes Khush but now comes the hard part. How do you tell your human mate you are a supe?
Khush is so unintelligent about technology it made me giggle while reading. Thankfully Silas and the whole slew of Sanctuary supes and their mates are there to help Khush along the way.
I love the dynamic between Khush & Dustin so much. One of the best things about Stella's writing is the absolute acceptance of any and everyone.
This relationship develops fast and their chemistry is very heavy and combustible. I dare say their coupling is a bit spicier then previous books and I loved it. It fits perfectly for this couple.
Now with new relationships new and old, there is always the issue of getting comfortable with someone and living together. They both navigated it perfectly and their comfort level with each other made my heart so warm.
I was so happy to see into the Sanctuary a bit more and see more of the characters who were in the background now come forward. It set the stage for book 2.
If you love-love. If you love and crave your characters to want to meet their perfect match and have total acceptance. If you want to see them navigate together and learn and grow then Stella's book are for you. With a softer edge to the romance it makes it an easy and cute read when you need something a bit more stable or somethin to bring you back to baseline again.
Overall, another knock out book to expand the world and constantly growing wheel of characters in the world.

**********Contains Spoilers**********

I enjoyed this book. I thought it was good start to The Sanctuary Forest Series. I thought that Khush and Dustin were cute together but I do wish there was a bit more development in their relationship, as it was pretty much full steam ahead after their first meeting but that’s a very minor issue. I suppose fate knew what they were doing matching these together as Dustin has a love and fascination with snakes and now he has his very own one in Khush, since he’s a Naga shifter. Khush’s parents are neglectful a*seholes and don’t deserve him.

As they shunned him as a child because he could only shift into two forms, his hybrid snake/human form and one full snake form, whereas naga’s have multiple shifting possibilities. I’m glad that he has Dustin to show him all the love in the world. I really enjoyed being introduced to some more of the unique supernaturals that call the Sanctuary home, and I’m looking forward to getting some of their stories as the series continues, as well as more books from Stella Rainbow in the future. I’d definitely recommend this book, series, universe and author to everyone.

I wasn't sure I'd like this. I'm fond of the 'normal' paranormals, vamps, wolves, dragons. Snakes make me shiver... but since it was Stella Rainbow, I'd give it a try. I'm glad I did.
Kush and Dustin are fated mates. And fit each other perfectly. Kush is a little grumpy, Dustin bright and sunny. Kush is a Naga shifter, one that is unable to shift into a full human form. His dwarf friend creates a special wheelchair which fits his lower half, snake body. Luckily Dustin's second favorite animal is a snake. Scrappy, his cat, being his first.
Rainbow writes with sensitivity about the difficulties of life in a wheelchair. Outings need special planning; is there a ramp or an elevator? Can a restaurant accommodate one? Rainbow presents us with an excellent example of a trans man. Body positive and self accepting, Dustin is both femme and masc with little angst.
Kush and Dustin have a strong chemistry. Their steamy bedroom activities are original. And quite eye opening. Well researched and very sexy. The secondary characters make a wonderful found family, nosy and loving. I look forward to the next Sanctuary resident who finds their mate.
I received an advance copy of this book and this is my review.

This is a story about Khush, a supernatural being, and Dustin, a human, who meet by chance and realize they are fated mates. Khush is visiting the human world for the first time when he meets Dustin, whose vibrant personality and charm immediately captivate him. Although Khush is determined to pursue the relationship, he knows that bringing a human into his supernatural world will be difficult and he'll need help. Dustin is thrilled to connect with the handsome stranger from the coffee shop. He quickly falls for Khush's shy, sweet, and slightly grumpy demeanour. For the first time, Dustin feels a new relationship won't end in disaster, even as he discovers there is much more to Khush's world than he could have ever imagined.

I loved this story which explored whether their fated love could succeed despite their very different realities. While there were some interesting discussions I did feel that there were many missing as Khush had more information to give around his abilities and family. Easy to read and understand. This was an MM story with mature content and a trans FTM pregnancy.

Khush lives in the Sanctuary, a safe haven for supernaturals that need it. On his first visit to the human world, he meets his fated mate. What are the chances of that happening? This will not be an easy thing as Dustin is human. Bringing a human to the Sanctuary is not easy. Dustin, a trans man, knows Khush is special, but he has not always made the best decisions in his romantic past. With so many obstacles to overcome, Khush and Dustin will have to be dedicated to make this work and they are. But will it be enough?

The Sanctuary is filled with kind, loving, and accepting individuals. Everyone is willing to help and the residents along with us can’t help but route for a happy ending for these two. A truly feel-good story, The Naga will capture you and keep you reading until the last word. Then it will leave you with a smile. So many other residents need a happy ending. Looking forward to more!!

I'm so in love with Stella’s books. They have made their universe one you want to return to continually. The way they mix fate, magic, and sups is impressive. Khush and Dustin are such a great couple. Khush, being a Naga, is so sweet. Based on the description of how Khush looked, I had to look up what a Naga was. It gave me a better understanding of how he looked. I can understand why Dustin fell for him.

Dustin, the sassy all ways fall to fast type of person, wasn't even looking when he met Khush in a coffee shop. I believe Fate did an excellent job bringing them together. The attraction and love were there. They just needed to see it for themselves.

It's always great to reconnect with the others in the Sanctuary. I smiled throughout this story and can't wait for the next one.

Thank you, Stella, for bringing joy again to your story.

Characters got together too fast; dragged the story down

I went into this book totally blind. I got too excited to finally find an MM book with a naga. When I bought it, there was no blurb and just a placeholder cover. I should have waited, because I probably wouldn't have bought it based on the blurb and cover...

The characters got together *way* too fast, even for fated mates. They just accepted it and practically moved in together after barely knowing each other. As a result, the book *dragged*. From 50% onward, I mostly skimmed.

There was exactly zero relationship drama. Any outside drama, which was minimal, was resolved a page later.

I wanted to like the characters (main and side), but all of them were bland.

I wouldn't recommend this book unless you want no-drama, instant love. I won't be buying the other books in the series.

4/5 This is a sweet, low-angst romance. Khush and Dustin are in the right place at the right time to meet one another, and it’s a whirlwind romance from that point onward, as Dustin learns about the Sanctuary and supes (and Khush in particular), and Khush learns about Dustin being trans. There’s tons of body positivity and acceptance here (amidst the couple and the Sanctuary family, with some negativity in past family interactions). It’s lovely to see these two admit what they want and figure out that they can have it, even if it’s moving fast. I enjoyed the dates, Scrappy the cat, Khush’s house renos, and all the time they spend together.

I look forward to seeing more members of the Sanctuary get their HEA!

Elephants, ramen appetite, double penises, smitten kitten

Most of the story takes place in The Sanctuary: Forest, which is kind of like The Island of Misfits (from Rudolph, I think? The Xmas stop-action TV show?) Some of it also happens in human world. It's more fantasy with some magic elements. The Sanctuary is divided into different sections for different types of inhabitants, like Ocean, Arctic, Forest, Dark, etc.

It's only a bit angsty, and, boy, is it steamy! **fanning myself** The characters are all loveable and quirky. Like other Stella Rainbow books, the scenery and imagery are marvelously painted. It's a sweet and beautiful book that will give you all the warm and fuzzies. Recommended!

Surprise, surprise, surprise! When Kush and Dustin met in a coffee shop, they were instantly attracted. Kush was happily surprised because Dustin is human and his mate. Kush, a naga, lives in the Sanctuary. It's a place for supes that is inclusive and safe. Dustin, knows Kush is special, he just doesn't know how much. Dustin, is a trans man who faces many life's challenges. The Sanctuary, if filled with fun amazing supes and their mates. Kush's challenge is integrating human Dustin into the world and people of The Sanctuary. The world building is excellent and Stella does an excellent job introducing the reader to Dustin's life. Great story, wonderful characters, nice cover art! Well done! I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.

3.5 stars. I was really liking the book, so many sweet characters, until I wasn’t. It’s a me thing, not the book or the author. I have read a lot of queer books, but all the trans ones that I have read, the trans man does not like anything to do with the part they were born with. And then on top of that, what happens made it feel like a MF read. Again, this was a case of it’s me not you. I would most definitely pick up the next book in the series, cause there are so many cute characters that need the HEA. I love the Sanctuary and it’s an awsome place that Zephyr created.

Another winner from Stella! I loved the Mistvale series and thought this would be the same but pleasantly surprised! The only similarity is how well written it is and the great characters and storyline development. A lovely low angst and sweet romance featuring Khush and Dustin. As soon as they meet a whirlwind romance ensues! Stella covered being trans with such sensitivity and body positivity it will certainly help with people's acceptance. Their relationship was so enjoyable to follow and enjoyed meeting members of the Sanctuary whose stories I am looking forward to.

Khush is in the coffee shop with his buddies minding his own business when the most interesting little dude comes to his rescue when someone is rude to him. And sends him a coffee. And asks him to give them a jingle because they are interested in him. This story started delightfully and introduced two interesting lead characters in Khush and Dustin. Their story was sweet and it was a ray of sunshine in a sometimes too angsty world. I truly enjoyed the variety of characters we meet and the romance that we get to watch take hold and progress. Really enjoyed this first story in a new series and am looking forward to more.

The Naga is the first book in a new series by Stella Rainbow. I enjoyed Khush and Dustin's story; they were both interesting characters. I also liked that we saw some new paranormals that are not typically used in the romance genre. The pacing of the book felt a bit off and rushed towards the beginning of the book, but it was overall still very enjoyable. The story contained all the sweetness of a Stella Rainbow story and was a good read. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

**The Naga** is a delightful M/M paranormal romance that seamlessly blends fantasy with heartfelt emotion. When Khush, a shy naga, meets Dustin, a vibrant trans man, in a coffee shop, their instant connection sparks a journey of discovery and love.

The characters' chemistry is undeniable, with Khush's sweet grumpiness perfectly balanced by Dustin's bright, sassy demeanor. Set in The Sanctuary, a haven for supernatural beings, the story beautifully explores themes of overcoming personal hurdles and embracing the unknown.

Raise your hand if you love snakes

This was a lovely addition to this ever expanding world. The biggest takeaway from the story was body positivity and acceptance, with Dustin as a femme trans man and all the quirks of the Sanctuary residents. Khush had a grumpy yet naive personality, while Dustin was a sassy, bubbly ray of sunshine. They did get together rather early on, but there’s still enough bumps in the road as they got comfortable with each other that it was still an engaging read. I look forward to more from the Sanctuary.

Dustin and Khush were adorable!

This was very cute, supper low angst and fluffy. Khush was incredibly lucky to find his mate the first time he stepped into the human world but it was really sweet how completely out of his depth he was on how to woo his mate. Dustin was a sweetheart and I loved how much he took finding out about everything in stride. I did find there wasn’t as much relationship development as other books in connected series; it felt a bit shallower on that front but it was still very sweet!

Audio: 5 Stars....great job and great choice, very androgenous voice.

Story: My reviews are my own. If you liked this book, I’m glad you enjoyed it. This is merely my opinion, so let's keep it courteous.

The story was ok. Both of them have past scars, but they communicate nicely, which is perfect. I also liked that they didn't box the "trans" character characteristics into a one-size-fits-all. There is something weird with the dialogue; it felt a bit AI. Still, interesting enough to make me want to read the next one.

On to my next adventure, Happy Readings!!!

This is a quick, fluffy, low angst fated mates book. First in a new series and if you’re looking for an easy read you can finish in one sitting this is for you. It was a juvenile in tone and dialogue at times but nothing too distracting. It’s a bit of a spinoff but can be read as a standalone. You just may have some questions regarding the world and characters you’re immersed in. Overall the storyline is stress free. It does have trans representation and I found it really done well.

I read an ARC of this book and really enjoyed it. Dustin and Khush are another great example of how Stella's characters don't let what others say keep them down, they are strong and special in their own ways. The found family at the Sanctuary makes you want to fight, laugh, love and live with them. Once again Stella expertly leaves little bits for us to want more from the other characters and I can't wait for their stories.

There are so many highlights within this book. It’s an incredibly easy book to read.

Highlight of this book is the acceptance femme trans male. Acceptance of a paranormal species. The authors incorporation of proper pronoun use being they and them. There was always a high level of anxiety over a non issue .Insta love. Spice was interesting.
In general this was not my
Cup of tea.

Okay so I liked the characters in this book. I had trouble with certain parts of the book I just couldn't get the flow of it like it either felt too fast or too slow and I just I had trouble with the flow of it. I did enjoy the story line which is probably why the book got four stars instead of three. I am usually a really big fan of this authors so I don't know if this book just seemed out of character for what I usually read by them. I am looking forward to the next book.

I really enjoyed the world building and starting to learn about The Sanctuary in this one. It has the feels of the small town romances I love along with the supernatural elements and I'm looking forward to more in the series. Khush and Dustin had a great grumpy/sunshine vibe and the fact that they were fated mates meant their attraction was immediate and both felt secure enough to jump into the relationship and give it a try despite some baggage from the past.

"How To Tell Your Human Mate You're a Supernatural Being."

I really enjoyed this book. Good world building and I loved both Dustin (sunshine human) and Khush (grumpy naga). I thought they were really cute together. I like how they were texting, Dustin's passion for snakes (second favorite animal after Scrappy, of course), and Khush's cluelessness on how to not only woo a human mate, but tell him he is a supe. I loved the supporting characters on both sides. A very fun read. My first, but definitely not last, book by this author. 4 stars.
