Folk Around and Find Out

He needs to get her out of his system. Just once...

Hank Weller doesn’t help people. He leaves that do-gooder nonsense to his best friend, Beau Winston. Hank does what he wants, when he wants, with whomever he wants—and Hank does not want to hire Charlotte Mitchell to be an exotic dancer at his club, The Pink Pony. Sure, he can’t help noticing the dips and curves of her, how shrewd, smart, and funny she is, the fire in her hazel eyes. He's always noticed. She’d probably draw a crowd and entice the regulars. But after Charlotte's messy, public divorce made Hank’s club out to be the culprit—and made her the single mother of four kids—he doesn’t need or want any additional bad press courtesy of Charlotte Mitchell. Or the distraction. Unfortunately for him, the town’s prettiest charity case doesn’t seem to understand the meaning of the words nope, no, and never.

Charlotte Mitchell doesn’t much like Hank Weller. Once upon a time, she used to. Years ago, she liked him a whole heckofalot despite other folks in town labeling him as “eccentric” and “nonconformist,” which were polite southern alternatives to "filthy rich" and "self-centered douchebag." Her opinion of him changed dramatically after he volunteered to be her date to junior prom and then promptly stood her up. They haven't so much as acknowledged each other in over a decade. But a sudden family emergency means Charlotte needs access to Hank’s club ASAP. Unfortunately for her, the narcissistic fancy-pants doesn’t seem to understand the meaning of the words help, generosity, and compassion.

But he’s about to find himself schooled. Charlotte is going to teach Hank a lesson once and for all about basic human decency, whether he likes it or not.

Spoiler alert. . . he likes it. ;-)

i loooove this book and what a nice surprise it was. Jackson and Rae’s story (Totally Folked) was so mind-numbing boring that i didn’t want to continue with this series, but Elle’s review convinced me to give this book a chance. not only does the book have the single-mom trope with 4 amazing kids, but i love how Hank (H) literally hates kids so much and calls them every name in the universe, but fell in love with Charlotte’s (h) little demons.

that man was flabbergasted that kids exist that he can tolerate.

➛ this book was refreshing for various reason and one of them was that Hank owns a strip club. Hank opening a strip club in a small town wasn’t just a big fuck you to all the super religious, narrow minded folks in town, but he also wanted to open a safe establishment where girl who do this kind of work wouldn’t be exploited knowing they can come to him and he will find them other work if needed.

➛ the plot of this book is pretty much that Charlotte comes to Hank’s strip club for a job as a pretence that she needs money, but in reality she is looking for information regarding her cousin who used to work there and is currently missing.

“You cannot dance at The G-Spot (rival strip club),” Hank said as soon as I was down in the stairs.
“Pardon Me?”
“You can’t strip there.”
I turned and crossed my arms again, an incredulous expression on my face. “I’m sorry, but are you my daddy?”
“Do you want me to be your daddy?” he responded, the words sudden, his tone low.

➛ Hanks and Charlotte have a bit of a rocky start since they don’t have the best impressions of each other. Charlotte thinks he is a grumpy, anti social dick, whereas Hanks thinks of Charlotte as narrow-minded, judgy and uptight. it was such a delight to see Hank changing his mind about Charlotte the more they spend time together and him getting obsessed with her and her kids.

➛ Charlotte was such an amazing heroine. i love her. she didn’t give a shit what anyone thought of her. she was so unbothered by all the drama happening around her and all the gossip about her almost to a point of being dumb, because she doesn’t think about the consequences of her actions and how they would or could affect her kids (like her working in a strip club and people in town shunning her and her kids for it). but i get where she’s coming from, cuz all she wants is help her cousin and her family.

➛ Hank was such a weirdo, but i mean that in the most loving way. 🙏 he reminded me a little bit of Cletus in the way that they are both such smart and rebellious and don’t care what the rest of the folks think about them. Hank bonding with a kid over fucking THE ECONOMIST, THE WASHINGTON POST and WALL STREET JOURNAL more than any other adult aww their scenes made my heart melt. also why didn’t anyone tell me this had HERO CARING FOR SICK HEROINE trope in it?! Hank bathing Charlotte and kissing her eyelids was so cute. i. couldn’t. stand. it. SICK. 😤

“You don’t have to give people things in order for them to like you. You just have to be yourself and hope their kind of weird matches your kind of weird.”

➛ all of Charlotte’s kids were adorable. at the beginning i thought it was so unrealistic how a 7 year old kid would be interested in reading news magazines and knows more about how the Fed increases interest rates than me, but then Penny wrote in her author’s note that Joshua is actually based on her kids and i’m like

Charlotte had the best mixed between cuties and rebels for kids and they have such a cute bond. 🥺👉👈

COMMUNICATION IS SO HOT… if Hank and Charlotte aren’t the perfect example of how talking things out can solve so many problems and misunderstandings. both of them were ready to date, but couldn’t do it in the open for a couple of reasons (1. him owning a strip club and the reputation it would have on her and her family 2. her not wanting her kids to get too attached in case it won't work out). Charlotte laid all the cards on the table and told Hank straight away that he deserves better, cause he wouldn’t be a priority and would always come at 5th place after her kids and Hank was just happy that he could get any scraps of Charlotte that he can get. that man was so whipped he was ready to be just a booty call. 🥺👉👈

➛ speaking of communication WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS CONVERSATION BETWEEN THEM?!

i swear to god these WEIRDOS 😭🤚 no idea what they are talking about but i was screaming giggling crying headbanging ITS SO CUTE STAHPDSLF they are weirdos BUT THEY ARE MY WEIRDOS iltsm 😭😭😭

Conclusion

This book is perfect for the single parent, small town loving folks out there who love a good grumpy Hero and a sassy heroine. Hank and Charlotte are definitely joining as one of my favorite Penny Reid couple!

I’ve been curious about Hank’s story since we met him in previous books, and I was so happy to hear that his story was with Charlotte, the single mom of four from Green Valley. Give me a single mom with adorable kids and a grumpy hero any day! This was a fun slow burn that gave me just the right amount of feels.

Charlotte Mitchell is on a mission and that mission leads her to The Pink Pony, the club Hank Weller owns. She applies to be a dancer and he turns her away right away. But eventually, with some pressing from a Winston, he gives Charlotte a job as a bookkeeper for his club.

The last thing Hank wants is to get involved with Charlotte but eventually he can’t stay away. Charlotte has had it bad for Hank for a while but the last thing she wants is a relationship. She has a full time job and four kids to worry about. I loved watching Hank eventually get past his reservations and go for it with Charlotte. It made me so happy seeing him with her kids as well.

This book had the most satisfying epilogue and left me with the biggest smile. I love Penny Reid’s writing and I’m enjoying this series so much. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series!

I am mixed with this author, some books are amazing but I think the smartypants series has saturated the market and I've felt that it was too much.

This story is ok.
Hank was a bit unusual in previous books, I wasn't wowed by his explanation of why or how he was this way.
I ended up skimming as I was a bit bored, it did pick up at 60% and at that point it was quite good.

The heroine, Charlotte, is a single mum of 4 kids, I think.
Hero, Hank is not a man-whore type.

The whole premise at the start I found ridiculous, 'I truly believed no judge would take my kids away because I stripped for two weeks if the only reason I was doing it was to help find my cousin.'

It's part of Charlotte's character to have naivety but this is just stupid.

HEA.
Epilogue.

The book was delayed, as frustrating as that can be to a reader, I haven't allowed this to affect my review, life, illness, death happens, its understandable that sometimes it affects the release of a book.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

I LOVED IT !!

I LOVED IT!!!
THIS IS A FUCKING GREAT BOOK!!

BACK TO GREEN VALLEY.

HISTORIA

My favourite read this year so far.

I can never resist the single mom trope and with 4 adorable little kids.🥺

kimmy the rebel, joshua the little boy who reads The Economist, Washington post and the wall street journal, pls he was the sweetest, miss sonya the little sunshine and lover who loved cuddles and baby frankie who was adorable.🥺🥺

Giving Sonya a little squeeze, I asked, “Honey, why’d you give me this note?”
Her aggressively adorable wee little-kid voice responded, “Because I love you.”
Aghast, I said, “You don’t even know me. You shouldn’t love folks you don’t know.”
You’re silly, Mr. Hank. You should love everyone. That’s what Jesus says. And I love you. And your face a lot.”But then she tilted her head back, her little fingers reached up, and she stroked my beard like she was tenderly caressing a beloved pet.
“You got to love everybody because everybody needs love,” she said. “And if we don’t love them, who will?”

Ah, this book just gave me the warmest fuzziest feeling ever and i had the biggest smile while reading. The definition of cuteness overload.

Charlotte and Hank were the perfect mc's.
I loved their banter, loved how they communicated everything like the adults they were.
Loved how Hank took care of Charlotte when she was sick, how he bonded with her kids immediately, how he fell for her first and was obsessed with them.

I just loved everything about this book.🥺

“How dare you think I don’t love you. I love you, you stubborn, lovely man. I’ve loved you this whole time. How could I not? The way you obviously love my children, the way you’re always here—right here—for me when I need you, your sexy-wizardry smirks, your intelligence, your heart, your patience, the orgasms—THE ORGASMS! Hank, you make it unbearable for me to do anything else but love you. I have no choice!”

Reread (julio, 2024):

“𝙒𝙚’𝙡𝙡 𝙙𝙤 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙬𝙖𝙣𝙩. 𝙄 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙢𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙛𝙚𝙚𝙡 𝙜𝙤𝙤𝙙. 𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙢𝙚𝙖𝙣𝙨 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙮𝙤𝙪. 𝙄 𝙬𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙪𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙚—𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙚 𝙩𝙤𝙜𝙚𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧, 𝙝𝙤𝙬𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙄 𝙛𝙞𝙩 𝙞𝙣 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙡𝙞𝙛𝙚. 𝙏𝙚𝙡𝙡 𝙢𝙚 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙬𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙢𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙙𝙤 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙄’𝙡𝙡 𝙙𝙤 𝙞𝙩. 𝙒𝙚 𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙—”

Como dije, de la manera que fuera 😫

“𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚’𝙨 𝙣𝙤 𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙪𝙧𝙚 𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚, 𝙣𝙤 𝙗𝙖𝙙 𝙨𝙩𝙪𝙛𝙛, 𝙣𝙤 𝙞𝙣𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙫𝙚𝙣𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙮𝙤𝙪, 𝙣𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙧𝙚𝙦𝙪𝙞𝙧𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙩𝙤 𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙣𝙙 𝙖𝙣𝙮 𝙩𝙞𝙢𝙚 𝙤𝙣 𝙢𝙚. 𝙒𝙝𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙬𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙢𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙥 𝙞𝙣 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙨𝙚𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙙𝙨, 𝙨𝙖𝙮 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙙 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙄 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡.”

When Penny Reid writes a book, she really means business. I loved how she did it this time. This book is now my new favorite! This was romantic, heart-warming, and kinda badass! If you love reading stories about heroines with kids and grumpy man, then this is definitely a must-read recommendation!
Hank and Charlotte were so real and with all the great feels yet there was also a fragility to their relationship. Hank with the kids was simply adorable, there was so much Winston brothers content I was so happy to see them. I highly recommend this book and this series!

Single mom of 4 tries to get a job at a strip club to help her family.
I had a really fun time with this. I loved Hank, our mmc, loved how he grew and how he found himself. I am sad we didn't get MORE of him. We only had snippets of an inner monologue about his past, but I wanted him to talk about that with the FMC. I wanted more about how he dealt with everything he had to go through and how it affected him as an adult. I just felt like there was so much more we could have gotten.

Still a fun time though.

(Warning: Review is Short, the Love of Penny Reid's Crafting is Long)
5 The Wait Was Worth It Stars
* * * * * Spoiler Free
Loved Hank Hardcore, Charlotte was a perfect match for him, and this book made me smile. So, as I warned, the actual review part for this specific book was short.
But my continuing love for Penny Reid and her ability to weave tales for us revolving around the world first created by the Winstons has grown stronger and stronger with each entry.

As someone who has been reading romance and reviewing for more than a decade, I have had my taste of continuing series with new characters that then have their own series.
It is not always a successful transition. It takes a lot of planning, and the necessary laying of the groundwork early on to tease readers in other books so that when the new series happens, everyone is primed and ready to latch on and actually be interested. That may sound easy but who can predict future trends and wants of readers...It takes true talent to understand the need to hold the course and just be true to the tales you are writing, come what may.

Penny Reid's ability to do just that has been her superpower from the start of her Knitting in the City series. She took her point of view, gave us unique engaging characters that made us think, and gave us little glimpses of everyday human feelings that we all may have experienced at one moment or another, plus the type of romance that we all long for...human, real but also a bit of fantasy.

No one written by her was perfect and not relatable. Each character had that vulnerability at some point where we could see ourselves and we were able to learn life lessons from the actions taken to resolve whatever had happened.

Oh, and all of this was done with liberal doses of humor, heart, angst, and really fun sexy times. Nothing was left out, intense feelings were paired with hysterically funny times. Sly sarcastic takes on situations were backed up with moral decisions.

So this is why I have loved all of the books by Reid because she has continued to do all of the above, no matter which series she writes for, which character she focuses on...they all are winners.

This entry hits all of these points. End of Review :D

Still loved this book. It was fun reading this directly after Beau’s book, but I forgot how big of time jump it is and I wish more was going on with Shelly and Beau. I still loved the wealthy, shit stirring, strip club owner/single mom of four, religious, teachers aid pairing. I almost forget that Hank is not only the owner but a stripper himself. I’ve read books with male strippers and it’s never such a nonevent. Hank is really a jack of all trades though so I see why it wasn’t focused on, but I wish the stripper angle had been played up a bit. Imagine if Charlotte happened to come into work while he was entertaining a bachelorette party?! The fun we could’ve had. I actually think it’s criminal Hank never even showed off his skills to Charlotte in private, PR really dropped the ball there, just sayin. Then at the end it was a little freaky getting such a far in the future epilogue 😵‍💫 and then jumping back to present day with the sneak peek of book 3 but that did make me excited for July 🙏 we’ve got the pitied/shunned local stripper with a heart of Gold and the Banana Queen’s rebel MC criminal brother. Sounds fun.

First read: 10/23-24/2022
I’m a sucker for single parent romances so I was immediately intrigued by the premise of a strip club owner falling for a single mother of four who uncharacteristically decided she wants to become a stripper all of the sudden. Turns out Hank thinks Charlotte is a buttoned-up snob who looks down on him and blames him for the end of her marriage (which couldn’t be further from the truth). Hank is the town outcast, heir to the Weller fortune (that he doesn’t touch) and he enjoys eschewing societal norms and revels in being scorned by the judgey people in town. He also hates children so naturally I ate up him realizing how awesome Charlotte’s kids are and all of their adorable interactions. Charlotte is a single mom that would do anything for her family including trying to procure a job at the Pink Pony from Hank, her childhood crush who broke her heart in high school. She loves her kids unconditionally, always puts herself last, is funny, loyal, hard working and wins Hank over without really trying causing him to reevaluate his whole life to be what she needs. The simping was next level. If you love a single parent romance, cute kids and a grumpy guy that can’t help falling for her kids too I’d recommend giving this one a try.

P.S. Interactions with Jackson James in this book just further reinforced my decision to skip book one of this series. He’s described as “beige” and a “stuffed shirt” 😅 way to sell him…poor guy. Don’t get me wrong I’m all for a redemption arc, but the guy has to be hated in a sexy way and Jackson was always portrayed as a self important prick and just a real loser and in this book he just sounds like the most boring do-gooder of all time. Apparently (from reading reviews) he has a complete personality transplant in his book but I’m not really into a complete rewrite of his character with no actual growth or change to show for it when he’s been so shitty and annoying in literally every other book written about people in this town🤷🏼‍♀️ so anyway I don’t feel like it was necessary to read that book first if you’re just interested in this one like me.

What can I say I found one book by this author I didn't love. It had to happen I guess. For me it was the characters and their story. Hank was too easy, so bendable, so completely a wuss. He was willing to give up all of him for a woman that was meh for this reader. At one point he wants to give up something he firmly believes in just to make her look good to the town folk. Really Hank, what about your "gotta protect them" belief ? He found her sexy as "he double hockey sticks", I found her a hollow shell. Charlotte, was a cookie cutter conservative type woman that had been left by her husband for young stripper. She's got 4 kids, that Hank Mr. Don't Like Kids instantly falls in love with. Yeah, I didn't buy it. She tells him she doesn't have time for dates, him, relationship, so he gives up all his to support her. Okay aww that's sweet but who wants a shadow of a person, following you around giving up all their interests ?
So now lets talk about how everything just falls into perfect place far too easily. There was no hurdle except in head. Grumble grumble grumble
Bottom line Meh Meh Meh. May I never see this couple again

Damn, this was good. Who's got the brain power for real reviews anymore but here's the highlights:
- Hank and Charlotte are very cute and squishy. I love them together.
- The kid's storyline, reading as a single mother, got me choked up. It was perfection.
- Minimal angst (though I was kinda in the mood for something gut-wrenching so back on the hunt)
- The smut... cannot lie... go off Hank 👀
- Charlotte and Hanks's competency kinks. They both have it, and it's both directed at the other person it's hilarious and amazing.
- The all-time best cameo from one of my favourite male book characters ever, and hands down Penny Reid's best character: CLETUS MOTHERFUCKIN WINSTON. Jesus, his small scenes in this book made me miss him instantly and want to re-read his book (again for the 10th time). Hank reminded me of Cletus in a lot of ways, but when Cletus finally showed up, I really saw the differences between them and basked in the glory of Cletus being the biggest weirdo and coolest guy ever. Love me some Cletus.

Folk Around and Find Out is book 2 of the Good Folk: Modern Folktales series by Penny Reid. A standalone told from POV with a HEA

Tropes:
✔️ small town
✔️ office romance
✔️ single mother
✔️ opposites attract

Charlotte Mitchell is determined to help her family and in order to do so she’s devised a plan to pose as a stripper at the Pink Pony. She just needs to convince the sexy surly owner to hire her.

After being shunned when one of his dancers left with Charlotte’s husband, the last thing Hank Weller wants is to hire the now single mother of four. As a dancer!

But after his do-gooder best friend, Beau Winston convinces him it’s in his best interest to help Charlotte out, he offers her an alternate job that would be beneficial for both of them.

After years of avoiding each other now Hank can’t stay away from her and her adorable children. But know he must because his reputation would affect hers. Besides, Charlotte has her hands full with her children and doesn’t have time for a relationship.

What unfolds next is a beautiful, fun, heartwarming and touching, slow burn story. It’s a story about life, family and friends. It’s swoony and sexy with the most gratifying epilogue. As with all her books, Penny has made me laugh and smile and the only thing missing was a Hank strip tease.

I loved the cameos from the Winston brothers, who I’d missed so much. I especially LOVED Cletus’ involvement. I can’t wait for the next book!

"I'll do-" His head descended; he placed a light kiss on my neck; my breath caught. "Whatever you want-"

Another kiss, this one with a scrape of teeth that had me shivering. "Whenever you want"-his hand on my leg slid mv skirt upward-'
"however vou want."
He raised his head then, spearing me with a heavy-lidded stare. "Will you let me?"

Anytime I pick up a book by Penny Reid, l'm instantly excited. I know that interesting, witty characters, a small-town romance, and an amazing love story will be to follow... and this book was no different!

Charlotte Mitchell is a divorced mom of 4 who's having trouble making ends meet. So she waltzes into Hank Weller's strip club, The Pink Pony, and asks for an application.

Hank has always known Charlotte as the stuffy mom who goes out of her way to ignore him. To say that she gets under his skin is an understatement.

The two make an arrangement and soon, Charlotte is Hank's employee.

If you are a fan of the big tree, fall hard type hero, then this is definitely a book for you. I adored watching Hank become mesmerized by Charlotte and just fall head over heels in love with her throughout the span of this book.

The relationship between Hank and Charlotte's children was the sweetest thing in the world too!
Do I wish the story would've had a little bit more striptease type shenanigans? Absolutely. Especially since Hank is a dancer at his own club too when the need arises!

Other than that, I loved this book! I devoured it in two days.

And that epilogue just warmed my black heart to no end!

If you asked me to describe my reading experience with this story I’d have to use FUN. The storyline was fun. The characters were fun. The children were fun. The banter was fun. The development of the story was fun. Feel me? It was all just FUN.

Folk Around and Find Out is a heartwarming slow-burn romance journey between two unexpected people, yet I could not imagine either one with a better match! Their story is romantic and sweet with a carefree vibe that just pulls you into their world easily. I could imagine myself in their world and I loved it!

Oh, how I love Green Valley, Tennessee!

Folk Around and Find Out is book 2 in Penny Reid’s Good Folks series, a spin-off of the beloved, and soon to be a TV show, Winston Brothers series. Here are three things that stood out to me with this absolute gem of a story.

HANK. Hank. Hank. Hank. Penny is a genius in her ability to write characters that surprise you. I’ve disliked/written-off Hank in past books both due to his actions/my perception and his occupation as the owner of the strip club, The Pink Pony. But I was rooting for him within a chapter or two and honestly by a third of the way into the story, I was a smitten kitten. I loved his backstory and how he took on his role as a boss. His pairing with Charlotte, a church-going single mom, was so unexpectedly delicious.

WINSTON FAMILY CAMEOS - My favorite family popped into this story on a few occasions, Ashley and her kind heart, Jet on a dads-night-out, Sienna, “Baby Winston” and Cletus being a total Cletus - I busted out laughing at his involvement, forms in triplicate indeed, only Cletus. But Beau…I’m used to reading Beau as a brother, but it was awesome to see him as a best friend here.

SURPRISE MOMENTS
- the stripper names, what an Easter egg, GAH so sweet
- the corn costume, truly a turning point for me, my opinion of Hank would ever be the same
The pizza. Have you ever cried over pizza in a story. You will.
The epilogue, that flipping epilogue, my heart was bursting in every which way.

Given the character pairing this book was always going to be surprising. But I was shocked, shocked, shocked in the absolute best way. Overall, this is a well-told, redemptive story, a wonderful example of character development and depth, a hilarious, sexy, contemplative, unique and sweet story.

And that hook for book 3 in this series….holy moly

I received an advanced copy from the author. All opinions are my own.

3.5 Single Parent Doing it All Stars

Hank owns the Pink Pony, a strip club, in our sleepy little small town. It is the place where Charlotte's ex-husband met and ran away with a stripper leaving his family. For some reason the town blames Hank for this and has been a little bit passive aggressive towards him since. Charlotte wants to help find her cousin who has gone missing. She needs to get in solid with some strippers to figure out where her wanted by the law cousin is at. Best way to do that is work at a strip club to become part of the family.
“You don’t have to give people things in order for them to like you. You just have to be yourself and hope their kind of weird matches your kind of weird. Like us.”

Hank and Charlotte are cute together. She has four kids that are a complete handful for one person and a few of them are a bit eccentric. Hank has never really liked kids, true he hasn't really been around them but why would he. Now his friends are all having kids and he feels pretty alone. It leaves him open to the idea of Charlotte and becoming part of her life. Only problem she doesn't have time for 'dating' and she has pretty much shut that part of her life down.

Hank and Charlotte have a great chemistry and I liked how he really wanted to look out for her reputation for her kids since he isn't really in the towns good graces. There were a super cute moments and some ah ha moments for Hank when he realizes just because his friends now have women in their lives doesn't mean he isn't welcome too.

I did have a few issues. I mean Hank had to change everything in his life to make it 'respectable' enough for Charlotte. Not because she asked him to but because she has kids to think of and he didn't want his owning a strip club to affect them. It was a pretty big leap and life change for him. Also the resolution to Charlottes ex wanting to get custody of the kids went away really fast with Cletus's help. I loved seeing Cletus and his interactions with the people in his family and their friends is always entertaining but I would have liked a little more information on those points.

Overall this is a cute couple story and I was glad that Mommy Charlotte found a man to share her life and all her responsibilities in having a family with. I do like all the stories in Green Valley and I was engaged the entire time due to the writing, but due to a few plotting issues it was only a 3.5 star read for me.

I had no idea how much I would love this book. Going into it I was completely unsure about Hank from prior books. I just didn't have a good read on the guy, and with the whole Pink Pony thing, I didn't have high expectations. Well, this story ended up being a breath of fresh air. Watching Hank grow and transform. Inhaling Charlotte's enchanting personality. And Hank with the kids was utter magic. Hank and Charlotte grabbed my heart and didn't let go. Beautiful.

After enjoying Ten Trends to Seduce Your Bestfriend, I was eager to read more Penny Reid. Folk Around and Find Out sounded like a wonderful read, one that would keep me hooked throughout, and I went in with high hopes. In the end, this ended up being one that left me conflicted. A part of me had hoped to give this a three-star rating, but I couldn’t quite bring myself to do so in the end.

For me, this book seemed to drag. There was a lot happening throughout the book, which is great, yet I felt like things were either focused on too much or not enough, which was not as great. There were times when I find like things were resolved far too easily, times when I felt like things were introduced solely to allow a conclusion in something else and was never explained for itself, and there were times when I felt like I was missing something. Mostly I felt like I was missing the connection between the main characters. I never came to believe in their relationship and was constantly waiting for the spark between them.

I’m sure many will love this – Penny Reid clearly has a huge following – but this one did not work for me in the way I had hoped.

****************************

After meeting Hank in her previous books, Penny Reid finally offers us his story, and what a joy to finally see this character and his open heart. Hank and Charlotte couldn't be more different from each other, and yet when they find each other it's obvious, but their story isn't a done deal.

It is a family emergency that pushes Charlotte to try to get hired at the Pink Pony, her cousin has disappeared and she might have been a dancer there. Not wanting to spread words about this story, Charlotte lies to Hank about the real reasons why she wants to work for him. For his part, Hank wants nothing to do with Charlotte, the whole town is angry with him as if he were personally responsible for Charlotte's divorce, the escape of the husband and the fact that she raises her 4 children alone.

Despite being grumpy, Hank can't leave her stranded and hires her as an accountant for the Pink Pony (to the great relief of Charlotte who couldn't see dancing ^^) and it's the beginning of the end, Hank tries to resist Charlotte, but it doesn't really work, nor for Charlotte either.

Then Hank meets Charlotte's chilren and he is completely ruined. He who prefers his social circle to be limited to Beau (and a few other Winstons from time to time), will bond very strongly with 2 of the children. The discussions he has with them and the way he will immediately accept them as they are is really cool *_*

Finally, I think what also touched me a lot was the bond of friendship between Beau and Hank, they also both have strong emotional scenes ♥

Soft and slow-burning

Laidback and easygoing, this small town/single mom romance is soft and a little sweet. I loved the concept of two people finally getting to truly know each other after years of being reluctant acquaintances. There was just enough history between them to keep things interesting without bogging the story down, and that added a richness to their interactions. There's also the juxtaposition of the "saint-like" single mom against the "sinner" eccentric strip club owner, which created some tension behind the prospect of them getting together. I loved Hank; he was such a sweetheart with Charlotte's kids, and that made for some incredibly swoony moments. He also seemed like such a good guy at work, so I had no problems falling for him. Actually, I would've liked more backstory on Hank's reputation, because the story didn't really show why women would be reluctant to date him publicly, other than his business. I certainly didn't find him eccentric. That would be my biggest complaint about the book overall - it gets sidetracked with the townsfolk, and the relationship development is lacking for a book of this length. It makes a very solid addition to the series though, and I enjoyed it the whole way through.

The story follows Charlotte, a divorced mother of four. People in town believe that she can do no wrong, so they are aghast when Charlotte applies for a job as an exotic dancer. Charlotte is looking for her cousin (it's complicated), and she thinks that getting to know the dancers in town will help find her. She'll only be at the job for a couple of weeks, she justifies, and any modesty she had left went out the window after the fourth kid. But Hank, the owner of the club, has no intention of hiring the woman who will only sully his club's reputation even further. The two clash, and it's not long before Hank is reluctantly offering Charlotte another position. As the two spend time together, they realize that they never really knew each other at all - and they like what they see. But Charlotte doesn't have room for anyone else in her life, and Hank knows that it probably wouldn't be a guy with such a questionable reputation if she did.

Can you read this as a standalone? Eh... I guess you could, but I wouldn't recommend it. There are a LOT of other characters involved in the story (probably too many), with complicated backstories and community ties. I had trouble keeping up, and I've read this whole series plus a few other books about the town. That does make it difficult for new readers to jump in, and it took away from the love story at times. That being said, there's nothing about Hank and Charlotte's relationship that I didn't like. There's friction between them at the start, but I loved when they saw beyond the surface level interactions they've had in the past. Hank makes a very compelling hero - loving, supportive, understanding, and totally gone for Charlotte's kids. I liked that Charlotte was such a strong heroine, and that Hank's career didn't faze her. Seeing Hank's insecurities made the love story feel deeper, and I thought they were great together. Their love story was quieter and more tender than I anticipated, and probably would've made for an easy 5-star rating with more focus on the couple and less on the community itself.

Charlotte’s cousin has disappeared, and her family is panicked so they devise a way to locate her on the downlow by getting information from the last place she worked, The Pink Pony. Unfortunately, the club is owned by Hank Weller, a man Charlotte used to have a mad crush on until he stood her up for her junior prom.

Hank doesn’t want anything to do with Charlotte let alone hire her to dance at his club. Especially since the town blames Hank for her marriage failing after Charlotte’s husband ran off with one of the dancers from Hank’s club. I wasn’t sure how that was his fault, but it did leave Charlotte alone with four young children to raise.

Of course, even with all their reservations, they end up working together and are surprised to find they actually respect and like each other. The begrudging attraction they feel becomes hard to deny or resist.

Charlotte was a breath of fresh air, oblivious to most things around her, especially gossip, which was no surprise considering she had four young children to raise on her own and barely had any time for that kind of thing to register! I appreciated her no nonsense attitude about people and her commitment to raising her kids right at the expense of her own happiness if necessary.

Hank was a bit of a Grumpy Gus at first, with not much patience for anyone but his best friend, Beau Winston. I enjoyed seeing him soften and change after spending time with Charlotte and her adorable kids. He absolutely melted my heart with the care and help he gave to Charlotte when she needed it!

I have to say one of my all-time favorite characters in Penny Reid’s romances is Cletus Winston! He is crafty and cutthroat and seems to hold a secret or ten on just about everyone! He always makes me laugh and I have to admire his deals and skills! He comes in very handy in this installment.

I love Penny Reid’s brand of romance! Her writing is clever and hilarious! Hank and Charlotte had oodles of chemistry that made for a satisfying slow burn, simmer-to-boil kind of romance. Folk Around and Find Out was pure fun! A definite recommend!

Penny Reid is my favorite author for a reason. She writes such wonderfully intricate stories about the most imperfect and dynamic characters with such wry and thoughtful messaging. I will be very sorry to close the chapter on the antics in Green Valley, though I know that is happening soon.

We’ve been waiting a long time for Hank’s story and I can think of no more perfect mate for him than Charlotte. This is a wonderful story that feels on the surface about a romance between mom who puts everyone else first and has no time for herself and a selfish man whom teaches her otherwise. But as we get to know both of them, they become infinitely more dimensional.

Both Charlotte and Hank keep their circles small. One out of capacity and one out of self protection. I love what happens in this story as those circles combine and they both get the benefits of more people caring about them. Hank sewing a corn costume for little Sonya and Charlotte making fruit trays for strippers was just the beginning of their beautiful Venn diagram.

One of the themes of this book that I found fascinating is Hank’s concept of relationship “equalization” - like tit for tat. If you do something for me, I must immediately repay you. And he has picked people, his best friend and his love interest, who do not operate that way. They don’t want gifts in return for their time and attention. As best friend Beau says, “The receiving is in the giving.” And that is a difficult lesson for him to learn, that people just care about HIM, and not his money or reciprocity.

However, Hank does not need such reciprocity in the bedroom, that man is a GIVER! Although, honestly, it might have taken them some time to actually get together in a bedroom. These two are sneaky at working in their sexy times!

This is one of my favorite quotes in the book, and if you are a Penny Reid fan, I don’t even need to tell you who says this, “Do you want to put them in jail? Or just, you know, frighten them a little?” Oh how I’ve missed you Cletus.

The one thing I still want … a scene where Hank strips for Charlotte!!

This is such a great story, and romance. Cannot recommend it enough.

Penny Reid's Folk Around and Find Out is a delightful romance that is sure to capture your heart! The story follows Charlotte Mitchell, a single mom from Green Valley who is tired of being underestimated by everyone around her. She's smart, determined, and has a lot more to offer than people give her credit for.

Enter Hank Weller, the elusive owner of the Pink Pony. Hank is notorious for his bad boy reputation and his reluctance to let anyone get too close. But when Charlotte finds herself in need of a job at the Pony for "family reasons", she's determined to prove to Hank that she's the perfect fit.

As Charlotte and Hank get to know each other, they begin to see each other in a whole new light. Charlotte is drawn to Hank's kind and sensitive nature, and Hank is amazed by Charlotte's strength and resilience. They can't deny the sparks flying between them, and before long, they find themselves falling in love.

Folk Around and Find Out is a charming and heartwarming romance that is sure to leave you feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. If you're a fan of sweet and steamy love stories, this book is definitely for you!

You know the saying ‘desperate times call for desperate measures?’ Well Charlotte is taking a desperate measure to find her cousin Heather. Her parents haven’t heard from her in a while and have been looking for her but have come up empty handed. Charlotte knows that someone will know what happened to her and they work at a local strip club. She comes up with a plan to help find Heather.

Hank is a bit shocked but mainly pissed off when Charlotte walks into his club. She is looking for a job at The Pink Pony. She tells him she has had some dancing training and he would be blind not to notice how fine her body is. However, he has no intention of having her in his club. When her marriage broke down, most people in town blamed Hank and it just added to the reputation he had in town.

Nothing Charlotte says will convince him to hire her. Until he hears on the grapevine that she has a job offer from another club, a really dodgy one that she will not be safe at. He thinks she is doing it for money but knowing how much her ex’s family was with it just doesn’t make sense. Hank doesn’t want anything to do with Charlotte but he doesn’t want her working anywhere dangerous either. This is how she ends up with a job offer to work at The Pink Pony.

Charlotte is a divorced mother of four adorable children. She works at a local school that is currently on the summer break so it’s an ideal time to help find her cousin. She has a crazy busy life with her kids and trying to keep things in balance. At one time she even tried dating Jackson James but quickly realised that she really had no time for dating. Her children come first and more often than not plans had to be cancelled at the last minute.

Hank really doesn’t know why Charlotte hates him so much, he assumes it has something to do with her ex-husband frequenting his club. She soon clears that up as she holds no grudge over the end of her marriage and Hanks discovers there is so much more to Charlotte than he realised. In fact, she may be the answer to his business prayers when he finds out she is an experienced bookkeeper. Before too long she is practically running the place and is a much loved member of staff.

‘Getting to know you while you’ve been here, spending time with you, watching you interact with literally every person in your life, it’s been like being carried over a waterfall I didn’t know was coming, or being hit by a car.’ I winced. ‘Tragic and violent?’ ‘No.’ He pressed his lips together in an obvious attempt not to laugh. ‘No, angel. It blindsided me.’

Seeing as they have a similar circle of friends, he eventually meets her children and despite the fact that he has no desire to settle down or have kids one day, he actually likes them. Well, they are pretty cool and something stirs inside his stubborn heart. When it comes to Charlotte though, there is something stirring there too and it’s not just a physical thing. He is beginning to care a lot about her and when they do cross the blurred line he realises just how much space she takes in his heart and head.

‘Will you let me be the one who takes care of you? The one that makes you feel good?’

Charlotte can’t believe that her teenage crush dreams have finally come true and it’s so much more than she could have imagined. Things are moving fast between them but she feels guilty about being with him when she can never fully commit. Once Hank figures out how to be with her, Charlotte begins to rethink her stance on being single. It’s hard for Charlotte to accept help when she is used to doing things on her own, but it feels so good to have support and seeing Hank with her kids just melts her.

‘I want to deserve you. I will earn my place in your life.’

There is a lot more going on in this story, finding her cousin, her ex-husband’s family, a bikini car wash and lots of cute kiddie banter :) Cletus makes a cameo appearance, doing what he does best with his methodical way of sorting things out for people. I really loved this story, love it when a guy meets the woman that brings him to his knees and how he falls for her kids too, gah!!!
