I have been hanging to read William story and it’s finally here. Edith delivered another beautiful story and I loved it. William was given the opportunity to go to London to make a future for himself. He met Anne by fate at a market and fell in love with her. Get the book and discover Connor’s plot of revenge and how William found out who he really is. Highly recommended.

"Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom," he repeated to himself, imagining the ancient philosopher at work.

William Baker is a gentleman without a title!

His godfather, the Duke of Lancaster, had helped William with his education. William excelled in every pursuit; he was a very good student according to Professor Murray. Professor Murray suggests that William attend Oxford or Cambridge. Since William does not have a title the Duke of Lancaster offers to send him to London with a letter of recommendation that will surely open doors that will enable William to pursue a career of his choosing. His godfather's generous offer will also include lodging and an allowance! William can hardly believe it! How grateful he was for this opportunity

Everything changes for Willian when he comes upon Miss Anne Miller, he can't get her out of his mind! In order to pursue her he needs a title or a worthy business pursuit.

At the Spaniards Inn, William meets Digby Kirkpatrick. Digby looks familiar to William but William can't place where they've met. They quickly become friends. Digby takes William to all the businesses that might offer him employment.

When money starts to run low, Digby convinces William to gamble. It’s easy money, money that William could use to purchase finer clothing to impress Miss Miller.

William resorts to telling small lies that lead to larger ones. He feels guilty for the betrayal of Anne and his godparents who trusted him to always do the right thing!

Edith Byrd does a great job helping her readers relate to the characters in her novel! William does not disappoint! The opinions in this review are completely my own!

Sneak preview of upcoming novel “Max”

I prefer the company of my roses, William. They’re far easier to prune than the wants of women,” Max replied.

This is going to be another great read by Edith Byrd!

The Duke of Lancaster is William’s godfather, and even though William is the son of a seamstress, the Duke has actively taken part in his life. Now William is being given a chance to go to London, with a letter of introduction from the Duke, to gain employment and establish himself in a career. Once there, a man named Digby Kirkpatrick seeks him out, stating that he is a friend of William’s former tutor and has come to help him navigate London. Digby is very persuasive, has some less that noble ideas and regularly bends the truth. Meanwhile Anne, the daughter of the Earl of Blakely, is being pressured to marry, and is not pleased with her parents’ candidates. A chance meeting at the market finds both Anne and William enamored of each other. What follows is a story filled with manipulation, deception, coincidences and secrets. When certain lies are discovered, things implode and the whole truth is finally revealed. This story has sweet moments, interesting characters, and underlying feeling that something just isn’t right. It is well written, moves at a good pace and leaves you with a smile.

William is so excited to be going to London under the sponsorship of his godfather who has for years provided a tutor for his education. Now his godfather the duke has provided a letter of introduction for him as he searches for a position to make his way in life. Two important things happened on the first day in the city. He meets Lady Anne who sees him as a wealthy gentleman as he saves her from being scammed at the market. And he makes a friend who seems to know his circumstances and helps him become an imitation gentleman to impress Lady Anne. However, her parents have betrothed her to a rake. As things progress, his friend drops the secret about the fact that the Duke is not his friend but, in fact, is taking advantage of him! Surprise: when he returns home to check in with his mother for the truth, he finds Lady Anne and her parents with his Godfather making plans to marry his son to Lady Anne! What will become of this group? Recommended.

There are definitely a lot of secrets that need to be uncovered. What is the duke to the hero’s mother? Who really is the hero’s protector? What is the family connection between the heroine and the hero? It was a good read with enough intrigue to keep me going.

An interesting story that continues the series of Ralph, William and next Max. This story seems at times to drag a little for me, but there are lots of secrets, deception, guilt, romance, family intervention and truth to come out in this story. I think it will get you ready for Book 3:Max.
