Things in the Middle Florida Keys aren’t as idyllic as they seem. If one looks closely, there’s a layer of dirt just below the surface. The butt-ugly kind of dirt that’s hard to get off.Things move slowly in the Keys—locals call it island time—but there are some for whom it seems that time is at a standstill; whose clocks revolve only around the tides, fish migrations, and the rising and setting of the sun and moon.Jesse McDermitt remembers the Keys the way he’d first found them as a young man. He’s lived on his little island in the Content Keys for a long time and he’s learned to adapt to some of the change. But not all of it has been positive, and it seems the dirt has a way of finding Jesse, sticking to his feet like Everglades mud.Is it finally time to go away? To completely disappear? He has the means and there are places in the world where the dirt hasn’t settled. Places he’d like to show his wife and family.A group of would-be yacht thieves attack the wrong boat, unleashing a series of events that will ensure their downfall. They come when most people are sleeping—under the cover of darkness. But nighttime and Jesse McDermitt are old and dear friends.Against his will, and along with his family and friends, Jesse is thrust back into the struggle between right and wrong one more time. And this time, it gets personal.
I'm a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps and now, a full time novelist. Between those careers, I've also worked as a deckhand, commercial fisherman, divemaster, taxi driver, construction manager, and truck driver. I live in the Sea Islands, near Beaufort, SC, with my wife and youngest daughter. We also have three grown children, five grand children, three dogs and a whole flock of parakeets. I grew up in Melbourne, FL and have also lived in the Florida Keys and Cozumel, MX.
A pack of pirating yacht thieves are going around killing yacht owners and selling the ships in The Mediterranean. Then they decide to try for Jesse's new boat, and get nothing but bullets for their trouble.
The bad guys can trace their boat, so Jesse and company decide to take the fight to them.
A lot of padding, but some decent action. I can't believe how many of these I've read.
Stinnett continues the Jesse McDermitt saga. The tone has changed - back for the better - with more evil bad guys, more action, more philosophy, and (a bit more downer) observations of a (possibly) degrading civilization. Excellent descriptions of the actual locations used in the book. I could not put it down and read it start to finish in one sitting. The previous book left with a bit of a cliff hanger that is yet to be resolved - and only has a brief mention in this book. Still, I can't wait for the next book - coming soon- as Stinnett is prolific in his writing. Recommended for all Jesse McDermitt series fans!
Stinnett has a good writing style. The book was very detailed in terms of nautical operations. I am a yacht owner myself, and I recognize many of the boating principles that the author explained in various parts of the story. The million dollar trimaran was described in detail and probably a yacht owners dream boat. The story was about a Ring of Greek cartel criminals that commandeered peoples boats, and sold them on a black market. Jesse McDermott, the hero, and the owner of this super yacht puts together a band of Brothers that he has known through his military career to stop these criminals. The overall story was good. and at times “action packed. I think it’s a very good read for people who enjoy crime, adventure, stories that occur on the water, and in the seas of South Florida. It is an interesting book for people that own boats and enjoy boating.
I absolutely loved this book! Jesse McDermitt, the main character, is exactly the kind of person- along with his wife, kids and friends- that our nation/world needs today. They are people who are patriotic, morally sound, compassionate and are willing to confront evil because of their unwillingness to allow bullies to terrorize innocent people. The series is riveting. I highly recommend that the books are read in order to fully appreciate the development of all of the characters and their trials, tribulations, joys and occasionally heartbreaks. They get under your skin. The only negative thing is finishing the book and having to wait for the next one. Outstanding job, Wayne!
While Jesse, Savannah, Alberto, & Jimmy are bringing Jesse’s new, LUXURY, custom built tri-hull, “Taranis” home to their island and also conducting after launch sea trials, they are accosted by pirates intending to abduct Taranis. Unfortunately for the would be pirates, Jesse never goes anywhere unarmed. Needless to say, the whole family/gang all mustered together to bring the offenders to whatever justice said offenders bring down upon their own heads. On a personal note, as an avid fan of Wayne Stinnett & Jesse McDermitt, I was extremely pleases by Jesse’s last line at the conclusion of SWIFT AND SILENT.
Your story is really ripped off from somebody else and Some weird fantasy Is included
All kinds of weird technical data With no thought to actual reality.. So some young Mexican with a gunp tells you to pull your boat up And pirate waters? Are you gonna do that you don't even say I don't need to show you no stinkin bage ?? Who pays these low IQ jarheads to help him? Marines have low IQ And they're poorly educated How are they gonna make their mortgages? The truth is Except for major wars The primary casualties in the marines comes from friendly fire there own air mishaps and Drunk Behavior. ??
A lottery winner's life-changing prize leads to tragedy off the Florida coast when pirates seize the family's custom-built yacht Destiny at gunpoint. Was it the right target, or has island life just got dangerous once more for 'retiree' Jesse McDermitt and his friends aboard the Taranis?
Join Jesse, Savannah, Jimmy, Alberto, Tank the puppy, et al in Swift and Silent by Wayne Stinnett, as you buckle up for a wild, all-action tropical thriller, in a tale of derring-do and the battle of good against evil, that will grip you firmly by the imagination throughout - guaranteed!
I still enjoy Jesse and the setting(s), but as this series continues, there is less and less meat on the bones. It may be doomed to the fate and direction of Stuart Woods with his Stone Barrington series. I don't enjoy a book where the "filler" (to take up pages) is so obvious and so frequent. The ad nauseum details of the speed and the and handling of Taranis was tedious to say the least. I am not quitting this series, yet, but Wayne needs more creativity in the plots. Sorry Wayne, but we need to improve our game.
My three star rating is generous and based on liking the series in general.
Wayne has once again brought an older & wiser Jesse to life in the pages of "Swift and Silent". My youngest son is a career Marine (21 years & counting), and loves to read Jesse's adventures. I live vicariously through all of Wayne's books. Since I've read every book he has authored, I feel like Jesse, Chatity, Savvy, Rusty and others are friends. Now if there was really an Armstrong Research, our world might be a safer place.
I can't remember how I became acquainted with your JM books, but glad I was. Reading so many short novels, learning the characters, 'watching' them grow and develop has given me much joy. I try to keep track of everything I've read via Goodreads but they don't always pick up on a new read and then I'm confused as to where I stand. I have about 8 of you tropical Authors guys (and gals) that I read and keep current with and anxiously await new books. I binged on everyone and now in a dry spot. Thanks for this one! Appreciate it.
My only comment is that I'm upset that this is the currently the last book in the series until the next installment. This series has been my greatest reading experience since reading the Zane Gray books in my youth. Wayne Stinnett is my favorite author by far. I look forward to enjoying all his other books. My wife has started reading the Jesse McDermott books and can't put them down. Thank you for many, many hours of great entertainment. Steve Dahlin (sfdahlin1942@gmail.com)
In my opinion, from having read every singlebook in the Jessie McDermitt series, and spinoff series such as the Charity Styles books, this is the one that was the most exciting and gripping of all. I really enjoyed this book bringing back many of the well known characters from maybe 20 books ago. What’s old is new again certainly applies in this case. I deliberately only read two or three chapters each night to prolong the enjoyment of this adventure.
I started reading Wayne' s books a long time ago with book one of this series a d every thing he's written and not one book has been a disappointment. He just keeps getting better and better. If this is the first of his books you've read you must go back a d start at book one you'll be hooked just like I am. You will be always watching and waiting for his next work of writing art
Jesse has his thinking cap on, and I think retirement isn't going to be in his cards much longer! He's not liking it as much as he thought he would. And now, with his new trimaran, it seems as if the adventures are going to continue. Yay! This was un- put- downable. Is that even a word? Whatever it is, it's true. Can't wait for the next one!
This has been one of the absolute best ever so many friends of Jesse and crew plus family so many from books passed and I'm 77 yrs old and this book was hard to put down I remember when I started reading the series and it did bring a tear to my eye keep them coming ill read till my lights go out.. Pura Vida from Costa Rica from my Scotty Bobbie and George...
Something I rarely do... Read a book in one day! Stinnett has written a thriller about boat highjackers. Although I'm not a boat person, he gives plenty of detail about boats to keep me understanding what's necessary to follow along. Waiting for the next adventure to begin...
Absolutely amazing. I took a break from my reading for a bit but I was right back at it with Jesse and the gang. Great story and lots of familiar stops in Biscayne Bay from my Miami boating days. Love the Taranis especially Billie's mods. I did watch the video of the Leen 56 to get some perspective of the Taranis. Awesome! Another great job, Wayne. We are going to miss the beard.
Great exciting story! I'm a Army Veteran 1966/1981. I have read all your books! Family, friends, pets, weapons, boats. I'm 77 now & have great memories of my boating life! We lived at the Canyon Club in Cape May, NJ. We traveled to the Florida less & the Bahamas! Keep writing Wayne! '
I can’t imagine a ship of that size with all of the accoutrements that it has. Its design was made to kick butt and that’s what it did. The magnitude of this rescue was above and beyond! Unfortunately, this type of tragedy is happening now. This book is a reminder to all of those who have been affected. Great read!
I waited impatiently for this book to be finished. Wayne Stinnett continues to capture and maintain the suspense of the chase as the bad guys get their come uppance.
I love the detail about the new boat, the island, the gathering of old friends and colleagues. The character development is first class, even about the new dog.
I found this series by accident when I was looking for something else, I haven't missed one of Jessie or Charity books yet. If you like books that mostly take part on the water or you just like action books then you'll like this authors books.
Such a great book. Finally Jessie back to being the bad ass he always was. And yeah for Savy being the beautiful brains of the bunch. I've ready every book and Wayne......keep up the great work. Love this series 😍
Although, not a lot of action there was so much insight and information on the new boat and the characters it was brilliant and a wonderful Read! It was interesting getting the whole gang together again for this operation. I'll never stop looking forward to the next one!
I love this series of books in the Jesse McDermitt novels. As always an exciting adventure in the Keys. Reading these books is like being there in the action. So descriptive. Kudos.
Jesse and family never slow down in this story. Action moves quickly, and the reader gets fully engrossed in the operation. The description of Jessie's new vessel is amazing.
Started off a little slow but then as the regular characters came into the picture things took off and never let up until mission accomplished. I hope Wayne has another book in the works. I read all 27 books over the years and I don't want to stop now.
Excellent plot and hard to put down. Looking forward to more in this series, there are many directions in which it could go. The characters are well developed and feel like they are friends after reading so many of these books. The end came way too soon, but the loose ends were tied up.
