When the King Was Carpenter is a study of the life of Christ and Yesterday, Today, and Forever is a warm and intimate look into the spiritual life of the famous Sound of Music family. Mrs. von Trapp describes how this philosophy and faith was tested in times of crisis, especially during their flight from Austria after Hitler's takeover.
Baroness Maria Augusta von Trapp was the stepmother and matriarch of the Trapp Family Singers. Her story served as the inspiration for a 1956 German film that in turn inspired the Broadway musical The Sound of Music.—Source
Maria has done her best to understand the life of Christ from the time he was born and to tell us what he must have lived like. This is a reprint (25th Anniversary Edition) or her two books Yesterday, Today and Forever, and When the King Was Carpenter. I really learned a lot about Jewish customs and life and felt her love for her Savior in reading this book. It is not an easy read and I found it best to just read a chapter or two a day and then savor what I had read.
This book gave detailed descriptions of life during the time of Jesus. What their daily routines were, how they worshiped God, & even what they ate back then. It was interesting to contemplate the details of Jesus' life that Christians may not think about, & it made Him even more real to me.
