After the wedding, they’ll go their separate ways and no one will ever know what happened in the lighthouse.
Jordy Taylor is a disaster. Over the hill by professional football standards, the veteran quarterback isn’t ready to hang up his pads just yet, but his team might have other plans. With contract talks stalled and desperate to seem a little less desperate, Jordy retreats to quaint Crane Cove to hide from his problems. With his best friend’s wedding only a few weeks away, the decommissioned lighthouse is the perfect place to hide away…until the most off limits woman he knows almost stabs him in the shower.
Annie Price’s ten year plan is in shambles. She’d planned on having her PhD, an engagement ring, and a job before she turned thirty. One out of three isn’t bad, right? Desperate to escape the apartment she still shares with her ex-boyfriend and to job hunt with a better view, Annie accepts her cousin’s offer to stay at the lighthouse she owns for a few weeks before her wedding. It’s perfect. A little peace, a little quiet, and a whole lot of naked quarterback in the shower. Too bad she thought he was an intruder and almost killed him.
After one steamy night, Jordy and Annie agree to a simple deal: a few weeks of fun, no strings attached. But the closer they get, the harder it becomes to imagine saying goodbye.
He’s everything she’s ever wanted and she’s everything he thinks he can never have. With their lives headed in opposite directions, can these love birds make it work or are they so flocked?
Sarah is a Pacific Northwest based romance writer who would call herself "indoorsy". When she isn't traipsing around the country for work, Sarah enjoys buying more books than she can ever read, drinking an irresponsible amount of coffee, and not respecting her bedtime.
There's no such thing as too many Happily Ever Afters. Sarah's books have humor, heat, and characters you wish could be your friends.
This is second in a romance series and the previous couple is very present, and important, in this story. I recommend reading it first, though you technically don't really have to.
I liked this one more than the first, not least because the character backstories worked for the plot and characters and held together way better. Plus, I really liked both protagonists right from the start.
Which is good because the sexcapades start early and dominate the early story. Okay, they dominate the entire story, but I ignored them after a bit. What the author did right, however, is used those scenes to sneak into a friendship that ended up being quite important to both of them as it slipped under their defensive radar. This was fun and not least because they were great for each other.
Plus, the banter was fun and that's always going to hold my attention. Even better, Estep does a fantastic job making the banter illuminate their relationship in important ways. So the reader sees Jordy's intelligence just as Annie does even though he, himself, cannot. And that's even before the author cheats with the standard fiction shorthand of making him .
And it doesn't hurt that Jordy is my very favorite form of alpha, the kind that cares deeply for those around him who goes out of his way in kindness with a protective edge that uplifts rather than limits.
I urge you to overlook the ugly cover and so-so blurb if you're at all interested in a wish-fulfillment fantasy romance with strong main characters. I'm not quite able to give this five stars with the over-the-top sex and kind of weird almost dark moment near the end, but still, it's a solid four stars and I'm almost eager for the next to come out even though Sam is a grumpy jerk in this one and he appears to be the hero in the next.
A note about Steamy: There are eight or ten explicit sex scenes putting this outside my steam tolerance. I skimmed ruthlessly because frankly, we knew what we needed to know after the initial first or second and the rest was just showing off. Actually, some of the bookend discussions were important to their growing friendship and intimacy but once the steam train leaves the station, it's all gratuitous from there.
So the author really wrote a book where you jump from one sex scene to the other and selled it as a “romance” novel
First of all the protagonist thinks about how they can’t be together and can’t have sex and then right at the beginning of the book suddenly they have sex? Caught me off guard but still continued reading and realized this book doesn’t have a plot besides sex. Coming from someone who actually enjoys smut in books but I was starting to roll my eyes after they started having sex EVERY scene (I’m not exaggerating here…)
No tension between the characters & no real plot. If you wanna read some porn, this book is just for you but if you’re looking for some well written, REAL romance novels skip this one 🙏🏼
Sarah Estep has rapidly become one of my most favorite romance authors and her writing is absolutely brilliant in every way.
Crane Cove is one of those fictional small towns that you desperately wish you could visit. From the landscape of the town to its colorful inhabitants, this is a place I could thrive in. Sarah brings such color, wit, and superb banter to every character and scene. Her balance of heart and humor is exceptional. In a moment, you can go from crying from laughing to feeling such a tender kinship with these beautifully chaotic, quirky goofballs.
Annie and Jordy are national treasures and should be protected at all costs. I loved how these two, even in stressful, and what could be embarrassing situations, were always open with and supportive of each other. There was never judgment, rather Annie and Jordy were quick to clearly communicate and provide encouragement. It was so beautiful seeing Jordy help Annie get out of her head and slow down when she would overthink or anxiously ramble. And I loved how he became a safe space where she could be vulnerable, which then gave Annie the confidence to be fearless, selfish, and comfortable trying something new.

This series has my whole heart and I cannot wait for more adventures in Crane Cove with the Brunch Bros!
4.5 ⭐️I’m really shocked that these books don’t have more ratings. They are super cute and just as good as any romcom you see on bookTok or IG. I hope people discover this author soon! This one was great. Much steamier than the first. No slow burn here. 😳 But the couple was really sweet and good together. He’s an athlete, she’s an ornithologist. They have an agreement to just have fun together while in town for their friends’ wedding, but this grows into mutual respect and affection. It’s a bit insta-love, but I bought it. Looking forward to the next one in the series!
I really enjoyed Keyed Up but this latest in the Brunch Bros series is a whole other level of spicy with great emotional depth! A dual POV, forced proximity vacation romance develops as Annie and Jordy find themselves both staying at the Lighthouse guest house in the weeks leading up to Eloise and Graham's wedding.
From a fantastic shower meet disaster to TONS of super steamy sex, these two can't help but fall hard. The only problem is can they make anything work long term once the vacation is over?? I loved Jordy so hard!! He's an NFL quarterback facing forced retirement and not sure what to do next with his life, while Annie is a new PhD, recently out of a long term relationship and not sure where her career as an ornithologist will land her next.
This book is definitely best read after enjoying the author's debut to really appreciate the found family friend group and small town Pacific West Coast setting. I can't get enough of these characters and will be eagerly awaiting the next book in the series. I voluntarily read and reviewed an early copy of this book and all opinions are my own.
After a strong opening chapter-ish, this book failed to keep me interested. Proximity without sexual tension, a convenient sex-relationship that was unconvincing, and critically, a failure to build to the tension in the underlying relationship in either way by 44% I was drained, bored, and go through romance-reader motions.
There wasn't enough to the characters by that point that wasn't present in opening chapters, so I am going to call it. YMMV - this is a very popular book but I think what didn't work in the first one is more prominent here.
I may try again--but this one isn't going to be worth the investment for me.
I love Sarah Estep's books so much! Her books are addicting and easily binge-able. She balances the serious and soft with the funny and spicy oh so well. Jordy and Annie... ahhhh, youe honor, I love them! I didn't think it was possible that I could love a couple more than Eloise and Graham, but here we are! They I adore the Brunch Bros. I cannot wait for Sam's story!
I could reread this book for the rest of the eternity and be happy about it because it was glorious. Jordy and Annie are so (very) soft and horny.
This was a ROMCOM. A true romcom. Just good vibes and low drama, lots of kissing and sexy times and the BEST FOUND FAMILY. When this group started consolidating in Keyed Up I was very invested because every character is unique and amazing, but this got multiplied by a million in this book. I love every single interaction between the Crane Cove crew and the Brunch Bros. Found family will always be the best trope above all the romance tropes.
This romance was perfect for me. I can’t help it, I love fast paced stories infinitely more. You will not have to wait for Annie and Jordy. A summer fling is all they’ve got, so they don’t waste time with shyness or doubts.
Something else I loved was Graham and Eloise’s wedding! I love it when the second book in a series revolves around the wedding of the couple from the first book. It’s always so cute and emotional!
At this point I want everyone to have a book. Me included. Because I deserve someone as cool as these characters 🥹
Read Sarah’s books. I swear you won’t regret it. She’s an amazing author and her books should be considered romance-must-reads.
Rating: 5/5 Steam level: Open door, +5 scenes, high level of detail
Oh my, this was such a fun one. Jordy is reaching the end of his professional football career but having trouble letting it go. Desperate for a little bit of an escape, he goes to stay in a decommissioned lighthouse owned by his friends for a few weeks before the same friend's wedding. He just needs a little time away from everything and everyone... until there's a mix up and Annie ends up staying at the lighthouse as well. Annie's life plan hasn't quite gone the way she expected it to with the only thing on her list crossed off being having her PhD in ornithology (birds). She want's to get our of her ex-boyfriends apartment and quickly accepts the offer to stay in the lighthouse. After a hilarious, re-meet disaster between the two they agree to a friends with benefits arrangement of sorts. Cause what happens in the lighthouse, stays in the lighthouse.
This book was filled with so much humor, romance, and spice! Everything was balanced so well making it such a happy and feel good romance.
Annie and Jordy were both such rays of sunshine. I know next to nothing about bird but Annie made me want to learn more. I loved how passionate she was about her area of expertise. Jordy was just an absolute cutie and gave all the golden retriever energy. He was full of sweet, caring gestures and was absolutely enamored with Annie. This could be considered insta-love a little bit given the story takes place over a few weeks, but I was completely convinced of their love for each other.
Don't let the cartoon cover on this one fool you. The spice happens early on in this one and continues throughout the book and I was totally here for it. The scene in the woods?? Hands on the hood Roxanne?? Phew.
This is the second book in a series, but I didn't feel lost or confused by characters mentioned at any moment! I will definitely be going back to read the first book and am very excited to read more from Sarah in the future.
Tropes: 👥 forced proximity 😊 strangers to friends with benefits to lovers 🤍 age gap 🏡 small town setting 🏈 he’s a football player 🦚 she has a phd ☀️ sunshine / sunshine
I’m pretty sure Sarah infused some kind of drug into this book, because I was completely and utterly addicted! There is nothing like a soft, tender, and totally horny book to binge in 24 hours, and So Flocked has set the standard.
Jordy is the softest, goodest boy and I couldn’t get enough of how he cared for Annie… in AND out of the bedroom. And Annie! The perfect other half of this couple. I loved their relationship from the get-go, their banter was so cute and their friendship was just as fun to explore as their “friends-with-benefits” (said in quotations because they definitely fell hard for each other from the jump!) arrangement was.
Sarah has really settled into Crane Cove and this incredible found family she has created, and it makes me even more excited for future books, so we can get to know them all even better.
The first book in this series hit me like a bolt of lightening and this one didn't do that, but I think I might ultimately come back to it more. It's a slow fast build and I LOVE that both of them get to try to follow their dreams and realize that maybe their dreams have changed. The future couples in this series continue to tantalize me as well!!
This was an AMAZING second book in the Crane Cove ~ Brunch Bros series - I didn't want to put it down and I was reading in every in-between minute I could find!
We return to Crane Cove for Graham and Eloise's wedding, so definitely read book one before jumping into this one to avoid spoilers :)
Jordy just ABSOLUTELY CAPTURED MY HEART in the swooniest, cutest way (Uncle Jordy!). And I love how hard he fell for the Bird Nerd.
Reading this was a reminder that everyone deserves love, friendship, and people that care about them. Annie was such a smart, funny, shy, rambling heroine and I loved her instantly. Her and Jordy were an unlikely pair that just WORKED. It felt like a Tessa Bailey novel with the banter, fun side characters, quirky storylines (example: knives in the shower?), while at the same time it uniquely captured Sarah's voice as the author. It's soft, it's caring, but it's also very very spicy (here for it, TBH). Plus all the swoon, like getting to see Uncle Jordy with all his nieces and nephews, then getting to see Annie through Jordy's eyes with his nieces and nephews... YES PLEASE.
Read if you love: only one lighthouse, time-limit, small town, found family, stories about chasing your dreams, group chats, birds, football, he falls first, some lessons (wink, wink), bromances, Oregon, football romance, EASTER EGGS FOR FUTURE BOOKS (I kept typing OMG - haha)...
5 STARS. Thank you to the author for an early copy of this book. These are my honest thoughts! :)
The forced proximity hookup story is usually not it for me, but Estep did it so well. They fell in friend love first and the relationship was comfortable and cozy. Their reason for not dating was realistic and their time apart made sense.
I love the smart girl × himbo dynamic. Jordy wasn't insecure about it, but in awe of Annie. The writing was cleaned up from the first book. All of the extra stuff that was overwhelming in the first was toned down and made me appreciate the core friend group more.
I hate the title and cover (I'm sorry but Jordy looks like an awkward dad 🙈), so I probably wouldn't have touched this series if I hadn't seen friends rec it. I'm glad they did!
My review for the first book in the series mentioned that I wasn't totally sold on the writing, but that I would give the second book a chance and see if that got better. It didn't. If anything, it was even worse since all the things that bothered me in book 1 were magnified here. And there were just way too many sex scenes.
I liked the first book better because, despite the writing style not being my jam, I genuinely found it funny, and it kept me reading. But this second book wasn't as funny, and even though I did like both main characters, I didn't really care about them that much. The fact that they fall into lust during their first meeting is probably what ruined it for me, that's not a trope I like.
I'm very undecided about the rest of the books in the series, because Sam will probably be the lead in the next one and the fact that he already got married in the time span between this book's end and its epilogue (so in a space of 7 months, essentially) does not bode well at all. Looks like it'll be another whirlwind romance with a wedding tacked on 5 months after meeting and that's just not something I enjoy.
Then again, I'm very much intrigued by what I assume will be Peter and Sybil's book, so I might have to power through.
If you’ve followed me for a while, you know I’m a big fan of @remarkablysarah and her debut novel Keyed Up. She’s been TEASING us with information about the next book in her Brunch Bros series, So Flocked. TEASING. I was SO EXCITED to get to read an ARC. And honestly a little scared. Could it be as good as Keyed Up? Yes. Yes it can. It’s So Flocking Good, guys. We met Jordy and Annie in Keyed Up, and they’re both back in Crane Cove for a wedding, running from troubles, and accidentally staying in the same lighthouse. THERE’S ONLY ONE LIGHTHOUSE. Talk about forced proximity dreams. Sarah wasn’t kidding when she said this book is “so horny,” because it is. There’s a *list* and plenty of honest communication. But it’s more than just that. It’s so soft. I just want to hug them both and smack anyone who ever made Jordy think he wasn’t smart enough or Annie think she wasn’t good enough. Two people who just make sense together, even if they think they aren’t supposed to. And it’s funny! I cackled quite a few times. I got to reunite with all my favorite Crane Cove residents and Brunch Bros. Goth Queen Kiki is back, yes! No toxic masculinity. No girl giving up her dreams for a boy. No miscommunication (well maybe one scene, but I yelled at Sarah for that, and everything is fine, don’t worry.) Just two hot, horny, beautiful people falling in love in a picturesque small town. It all starts with a knife.
Please read it and tell me when you read the epilogue and get to THAT PART. I GASPED and yelled at Sarah for that too. By yelled at, I mean sent her DMs in all caps. Go yell at her and cheer her on in DMs. I cannot wait for the next one. SO MANY CLUES!! I also need to reread Keyed Up and try to piece things together.
The soft spot I have for Jordy Taylor just got a whole lot bigger.
His and Annie’s love story is the sweetest, sexiest, most endearing one I’ve ever read. It’s like reading about two golden retrievers falling in love. They are lovable and goofy and so good to each other. I’ve never rooted for two people harder.
As always, Sarah spoils us with hilarious one liners and the kind of intimate romantic gestures that really tell you the couple know each other well. The kind that make you love them, too. This cast is my all time favorite and I can’t wait for every book to come. Sarah could write a grocery list, and I’d read it seven times over.
This was somehow even better than book 1 (which I thought was so freaking good). I liked the story outline and trajectory, it had a lot of really good spicy scenes (starting almost immediately in the book), and there was no third act break up.
Sarah consistently not only does an amazing job with the MCs, but also with the supporting characters. I am again so excited for the next books in this series!!
Dr. Roxanne “Annie” Price is an Ornithologist. Between jobs and still living with her ex as they navigate their separation she arrives in Crane Cove early to help her fave cousin (book 1 FMC) prepare for her wedding.
Jordan “Jordy” Taylor is a football star. He’s also an aging football star worried about his contract. When his agent suggests he get out of town (while she works on said contract), he heads up to Crane Cove to help the groom (book 1 MMC) who is also one of his very best friends.
Months ago at the couple’s engagement party, fresh off her break up, Annie propositioned Jordy. Things got started but when he realized she’d been drinking he stopped after a kiss. They’ve both been thinking about it since. Jordy has been threatened from all angles about messing with Annie. Annie’s been warned (and knows from the tabloids) about Jordy’s less than committed dating style. And OF COURSE, the bride and groom neglected to tell each other they’d offered Annie and Jordy use of the lighthouse for their stays in Crane Cove.
After a very abrupt (and almost violent but hilarious) surprise reunion, Annie and Jordy find themselves beyond pleased to be sharing a home for the next few weeks. Soon they’ve entered into a mutually beneficial physical relationship, with lots of rules Annie set to protect her heart. However, much to Annie’s secret delight, Jordy takes every opportunity to bend them with kissing that doesn’t immediately go further, and break them with ritual hand holding.
Jordy’s attraction to and feelings for Annie leapt off the page. For you HistRom fans, he’s got major Rupert Carsington energy. If that doesn’t work and you haven’t been living under a rock, think Travis Kelce being adorably blown away by Taylor Swift’s talent. Jordy loves her eyes, when she wears fancy green dresses and lingerie or his t-shirts, he finds comfort in her tummy pooch, and could listen to her talk about birds for years without getting bored. He’s devoted to her joy and success both personally and professionally, even when he has to wait while she gets what she deserves.
Annie is smart, funny, caring, and we can all take some lessons from her astute and introspective self awareness. She’s also bonkers attracted to Jordy and once she lets herself relax into their relationship learns how to let herself have a really great time.
This book is low angst, super duper hot, laugh out loud funny, and nails its tropes.
You can totally read this as a standalone but I recommend starting from the beginning, the series focuses on 4 guys who are the most devoted of best friends and I don’t think you’ll want to miss any of their moments. Speaking of, I loved book 1 in this series, Keyed Up. It has an apology so good it inspired a post about apologies in romance. Also I think Estep must be a HistRom fan because I get that same joyful fantasy vibe from her writing.
Keyed Up, the first book in this series, was one of my favorite discoveries earlier this year and the joy just keeps on coming! So Flocked is Jordy and Annie's story and it's full of the same wonderful humor and heart (and steam!) that I've come to expect when I pick up one of Sarah's books.
Her writing draws you right in to the world and you can't help but fall for every single one of her characters. The "golden retriever" hero isn't even usually one of my favorite tropes but oh my goodness Jordy is such a sweetheart and I just adore him so much. The way he and Annie grow together is so lovely and satisfying to watch.
If you like small town romances (and honestly, even if you don't!), this is not one to miss! It's hot, it's sweet, we get more little nuggets that tease at future books, and you'll definitely be left with a smile on your face.
(4.5 Stars) Don’t mind me; I’m just over here obsessed with this feel-good small-town romance series. So Flocked is book two in the Crane Cove series, and with book four just around the corner, I never want to leave this charming “Spicy Stars Hollow” world.
Jordy Taylor is grappling with the potential end of his successful football career. He’s on the wrong side of 30 for an NFL player and is nervous about getting a contract for one final year. He’s decided to spend a few weeks in Crane Cove, where Graham, one of his best friends, is about to get married. Annie Price’s 10-year relationship imploded, and despite her PhD in ornithology, she can’t get a job in her field. She’s decided to spend a few weeks in Crane Cove, where her cousin, Eloise, is about to get married. Unfortunately, Graham and Eloise promised their people the same guest cottage. Cue forced proximity, undeniable attraction, and a no-strings-attached arrangement to pass the time before the wedding. But what starts as a fun, temporary fling turns into something deeper as Jordy and Annie see each other in ways no one else ever has.
In this second book, we revisit Graham and Eloise and see the wheels put into motion for future books focused on Sam and Peter. I love the vibes of this series, and both Jordy and Annie are so deeply earnest and likable. I’m a sucker for romantic relationships where the main characters help each other recognize their true dreams, and this one, like Keyed Up, does that beautifully. Also, like the first book, this one is as fun and funny as it is spicy.
🎧 About the Audiobook 🎧 Like book one, @stephrosevoice and @voiceofjoey perfectly bring to life the comedic and tender moments between Jordy and Annie in this dual POV performance. They imbue these characters with humor, passion, and tenderness, giving these two quirky characters such personality! (8h 33m)
The first in this series was fine, but this one hit it out of the park. The only one lighthouse sitch hit just as great as an only one bed sitch. The Brunch Bros continue to make me have many feelings as they are such good friends to each other and love and support and feel for each other. All the Bros showing up for Graham's wedding? I swoon.
But this is about Annie - an ornithologist - and Jordy - a pro quarterback. Jordy is just the right mix of cocky, experienced, and supportive (Whatever you want, say it, I'll do it). And gosh did I sinceeeerely love a story with an accomplished woman choosing her career development over throwing it all away for a guy (looking at you book that shall not be named with a neurosurgeon taking up pottery. POTTERY!). This was such a HOT HOT and fun and sweet book. I'm sold on the Brunch Bros. When can I get the next one?
so good! these two characters have an instant connection, and are so fun, sweet, and steamy together! wish i would’ve read the first book first cause i loved all the side characters
One of the tricky things about Bookstagram is that it’s not unheard of to interact with authors, who you often discover are really cool people (hello, @remarkablysarah!). What’s tricky about that, you say? Well, if you’re a pull-no-punches reviewer like I try to be, it’s a little nerve-racking to start a book by someone you “know” and worry that you won’t like it and ohmygodIdon’twanttohurttheirfeelingsbutImustspeakmytruth.
Happily, this was NOT an issue with Sarah Estep’s sophomore book, So Flocked, in which we return (hurrah!) to picturesque Crane Cove. I loved—LOVED—Keyed Up for its mature storytelling, truly intimate sex scenes, brilliant cast of characters and fricking hilarious writing. So Flocked is a perfect companion, taking place in the runup to Graham and Eloise’s wedding, which throws Annie and Jordy into each other’s paths with truly swoony results.
Jordy is a 37yo pro football player and Annie is an ornithologist with a PhD. They accidentally end up in the same lighthouse and decide not only to be roomies but also to be roomies with benefits. They weren’t complete strangers; they met previously and Annie drunkenly snogged Jordy, but he has been under strict instructions to not mess with her Or Else. (Ope!)
These two are so beautiful together—funny and tender and open. Their sex is always spectacular but never perfect, and they can’t wait to be back with each other whenever they’re apart for, like, a minute.
I really only have two criticisms, and they’re minor. First, the beginning seemed a little loose; their first meeting is kind of told in flashback form and it took me a minute to realize I hadn’t missed anything in Keyed Up. Second, there is some serious breeding kink from both of them in the first half, but it kind of goes away and never comes back. I’m not saying I needed them to have a baby or something (I am completely neutral on the subject of breeding kinks), but I felt like that circle should have been closed somehow.
But these things are so minor and not nearly enough to drop this down to anything less than five stars.
Be sure to pre-order this beautiful book—it releases on Oct. 26.
I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.
So Flocked is the 2nd book in Sarah’s Brunch Bros. Series. It can be read as a stand-alone, but there’s a bunch of stuff involving characters we met in Keyed Up (book 1) that you’ll enjoy this much more having read that first.
Annie is an or ornithologist, in between jobs, and just broke up with her live-in ex. Her cousin, Eloise (FMC from Keyed Up), suggests she get away and stay at their guest lighthouse. Jordy is the quarterback for the LA Phantoms football team. While his contract is under negotiation, his agent advises him to go out of town. His best friend, Graham (MMC from Keyed Up), suggests he stay at their guest lighthouse, which leads to a double-booked lighthouse and a hilarious meet-disaster. Don’t worry. They make the most of it. 😉
They’re both very attracted to each other, but Annie just got out of a long-term relationship. Also, Annie’s cousin is about to marry Jordy’s best friend, Graham, who basically told him she’s off limits. He also doesn’t feel good enough or smart enough to be in a relationship with her. After a night of great sex, Annie proposes they have a no strings attached fling until the wedding and he agrees, but no one can know about it.
This book has all the bang. So much bang.
It also has all the swoon. So much swoon. Three words (one made up), one dash. Iron-Billed Wooflespoof. There's so much sweetness in this, Jordy would drink it. You know that scene in Despicable Me where the sisters are at a carnival and the youngest, Agnes, is holding a unicorn stuffy and she screams, "IT'S SO FLUFFY?"
That's this book.
It does get emotional at times. They’re both feeling a little bit lost, which I think many can relate to. Annie feels lost without a job and Jordy is afraid he doesn't know what to do if his career ends. They both help each other not feel so lost.
I love these characters as well as all the supporting cast. I love that Sarah’s books include a group of men who aren’t afraid to tell each other they love each other. It’s important. I love the relationships they all have with each other. I also really enjoyed seeing Graham play “big brother” to Annie. The town is becoming an even bigger found family and Sarah left SO many breadcrumbs for Sam's and Peter's stories. I just can’t wait!
I love books that leave me with warm feelings, like I've just been hugged, and that's what this series does for me. It’s so good.
Thank you to Sarah for allowing me to Beta read. I voluntarily read an early copy of this book.
I’m so in love with this world that it legitimately feels like a missing limb when I finish another Brunch Bros book. I’ve been a feral gremlin for Jordy and Annie and now that I’ve finished their story….I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO.
That was a bit dramatic but I didn’t want to get to the end. Sarah has this amazing way of subverting what a character *should* be based on stereotypes and flips it around. Jordy the NFL player is warm and kind and in touch with his soft inner core. Annie the scientist is lovely and sweet and so earnest. And they collide into this like supernova of warm, mushy feelings with just enough “this is temporary” smattered throughout to get the pining revved up to max mode. What googly eyed dum dums. I love them.
The plot is minimal in a good way with character development driving the pages forward and I loved it. We check in with Crane Cove locals and the Brunch Bros and Kiki (in all of her delightfully odd Victorian goth glory) and it feels like slipping into your favorite sweater. Familiar and comfortable and snuggly. I love love love the town Sarah has created.
Sarah didn’t come to play with the Jordy Taylor thirst train. Man is walking around with a sleeping baby strapped to his chest and being a cuddle bug and I’m just…not supposed to fall in love with him? Blasphemy.
And! I love that this isn’t a story where Annie has to choose between being Jordy’s girl or following her bird scientist dreams. Annie is made of multitudes and Jordy loves every single one of them wide open. And if Annie needs to make like a bird and spread her wings, then Jordy is like…the cliff she launches off of AND the tree she roosts in. My babies.
Thank you to Sarah for an ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own!
I somehow swindled Sarah into letting me beta read this beauty and YA’ll 😫 For now I will just say that you are not Flocking ready for this masterpiece, the perfect combination of achingly sweet/tender and scorchingly sexy
I have been on small coast town era and I'm sad to say this is the last stop for the next little while, but let me tell you about this sweet, hilarious, and oh so spicy book.
Annie and Jordy! I'm still recovering, I read this fast, I love them so much and miss them dearly. They first met a few months ago during the engagement party for Annie's cousin Eloise and Graham, who happens to be one of Jordy's BFs They are booth looking forward to a brief escape from their lives, Annie is still adjusting after a long term relationship break up and also trying to sort out her career plans while searching for her next job. Jordy is trying to stay positive and hopeful that his football career can continue for another season as his retirement is expected for his age.
They plan a three-week stay in the decommissioned lighthouse at Crane Cove before Eloise and Graham's wedding. Little did they know that they would be roommates for the duration of their getaway, but they quickly adjust and make a deal to have three weeks of only sex (lots of it😉) no strings attached.
This had laugh out loud moments, so much tenderness and I absolutely loved it. As they try to figure out their next steps for their lives, their kindness and support towards each other is heartwarming, and my heart ached whenever they didn’t think they were enough for each other. They are perfect together and they truly push each other to be the best versions of themselves.
I also loved that this book continued Eloise and Graham's story and we got these super sweet emotional moments and since we are talking about it, I need to take a minute and talk about the Bros, they are chefs kiss perfection. I absolutely adore that this world is established around male friendships. Their interactions are so wholesome, honest, and with plenty of banter.
This is the second book in the Brunch Bros interconnected series and while you can read it as a standalone, I highly recommend you check out Keyed Up first to get introduced to this beloved cast. I hear there are many books planned for this series and I will be there for all of them!
Thank you Sarah for creating these wonderful characters and for this ARC. I seriously can't wait to read your next story.
So Flocked is now reigning number 1 at the top of my comfort books list. Yes, at the very top. This book made me grin real hard, laugh, squeal, kick my feet, hold it close to my chest, and yell (lovingly) at Sarah at the top of my lungs in her DMs. So Flocked is a warm hug of a book.
Jordy is EVERYTHING you look for in a soft MMC. His entire being revolves around Annie. He'll do anything to get Annie to smile at him. I think his entire thought process in this book can be boiled down to "Fuck, she's pretty." He's so gentle with her heart and soul. Everyone needs someone to worship them the way Jordy worships Annie.
Annie. Sweet, sweet Annie. You know how you meet people in your life and you think to yourself "This person deserves every good thing the world has to offer?" Annie is that person. Annie deserves every good thing. And do you know who knows this? Jordy. Annie goes on a journey in this book and realizes that she deserves the opportunities she's given and that if the hot guy gives a damn about her, he'll be waiting when the opportunity is over. Christina (@christinareadsontheroad) said it best: Annie proves that smart girls deserve all the love and intimacy too.
So Flocked comes out on Thursday, October 26th. If you are in need of a joyful, happy, delightful, and (very) horny book, this one is for you. Thank you to Sarah for the chance to beta read and the opportunity to fall in love with these two lovebirds all over again with an ARC.
