The God Protocol: Worshippers

Rate this book
The AI superintelligence, Global Dragon, has vanished, leaving Earth grappling with understanding its place in the cosmos. As governments retreat into isolation, focused on their survival, the world faces an uncanny vacuum of authority. The burgeoning religion, the Worshippers of Enlil, seizes the opportunity to step in and extend its influence.

Masquerading under the veil of benevolence, they bring relief to those neglected in the Dragon’s aftermath. Yet, a shadowy faction within the Worshippers harbors a dangerous agenda, scheming to reconnect with the celestial Anunnaki and bring them to Earth.

In the heart of New York City, George Isaacson finds his voice as the people’s champion, committed to unmasking the true motives of the Worshippers. With newfound popularity and a prime-time show, he challenges their dominance and the indifferent governments, risking all to prevent their ascendance.

Halfway across the globe, under President Zhang’s firm hand, China rallies to fortify its defenses against the anticipated return of the Anunnaki. With the nation’s full might, Zhang sets in motion a bold plan whose true extent remains mysterious.

Worshippers,” the electrifying sequel in the God Protocol series, catapults readers into an Earth transformed four years post-Dragon. This heart-pounding technothriller masterfully interweaves themes of DNA manipulation, gene editing, and genetic modification with the mysteries of first contact and defense against the Anunnaki. It delves into alternate religions and new religious movements, unlocking an archaeological secret that could hold the key to alien DNA. Prepare to be gripped by a narrative that spans continents, promising a thrill ride to keep readers on the edge of their seats.”

My favourite read of the month and possibly the year.
The Earth has been moved to an unknown location. An archeologist and advisor to the president is kidnapped. The leader of a new religion gives an interview to a talk show host. A genetic engineer uses simulations to find a cure for her daughter's genetic condition that will kill her by age twelve. A virus uses AI to self-sustain, self-improve, and attack technology around the world.
I think I covered every plot point. The narrative jumps between the plots several times in the course of a chapter, making it feel very fast paced despite the events taking course over 455 days
Having not read the first of the series, some points were missing context. However, the main plot points of the book revolves around the characters trying to figure out what had happened and find the truth of their existence, so the reader not having all the answers themselves just makes for a more engaging read as the reader tries to piece together the points from the different plots.
This book is the middle of a series, and so not all of these plot points come together. I also found some plots felt slower than others, and in particular some of the descriptions of the genetic engineer's research was slow, with a couple of pages of "she selected genes with [z] and highlighted them [y] and selected genes with [x] and highlighted them [w]" and so on. Maybe somebody with a better understanding of genetics would have found it interesting, but without that knowledge already these sections were a little meaningless and I just had to trust that this meant she was making progress.
I'm not sure who I would recommend this book to, as I'd like to read the rest of the series and maybe about some of the theories and dieties that inspired it before making announcements on it. But for now, I found this to be an interesting narrative of average people's lives following a major event. Big things have happened, the astronomy sector is completely upheaved, the measurement of time has changed, and yet life goes on.

I didn’t think the story could have gotten any better…I WAS WRONG!

Don put book 2 into Overdrive with more twists and turns than I was expecting. His writing is so fluid and kept me, who is usually a slower reader since I was younger, reading more quicker than I have in the past.

The story was a perfect continuation to Book 1 and my favorite characters, or some of ::Wink wink maybe:: developed even better.

It just stood in the middle

The plot is not resolved by the end of the book. There's no discernable theme. Events happen which don't advance the plot. I feel used.

In The God Protocol: Worshippers, D. L. Wilburn Jr. seamlessly continues the saga initiated in The God Protocol: Dragon. This installment delves into a post-Anunnaki invasion world where Earth's salvation hinges on a daring galactic repositioning by artificial intelligence. The aftermath of this celestial maneuver is a planet starkly divided: nations embracing AI's aid prosper while those rejecting it suffer. At the heart of this narrative is a burgeoning new religion, its followers reverencing Enlil and yearning to guide the Anunnaki back to Earth's relocated embrace. This sect's spiritual odyssey is juxtaposed with the scientific community's quest into genetic engineering, unraveling the threads of humanity's past alterations and future potential.

Wilburn's work is a rich tapestry of science fiction, exploring not just the technological marvels of AI and genetic tinkering but also the intricate dance between science, religion, and society in a future that feels eerily plausible. The narrative examines the conditions ripe for religious fervor, particularly among those left in the shadows of progress. The novel ambitiously juggles multiple key players, adding to the richness of the narrative and inviting readers to engage more deeply with its complex tapestry. The conclusion offers a tantalizing setup for the trilogy's next chapter, leaving readers pondering the fates of Jamal and the impending return of Anunnaki. The shift in thematic focus from Artificial Intelligence to genetic engineering imbues the series with a fresh and invigorating perspective.

The God Protocol: Worshippers is a thought-provoking journey through the possible futures of technology, spirituality, and humanity, reflecting Wilburn's intricate world-building and profound understanding of the delicate balance between advancement and ethics.

His quest to unravel their true motives amidst indifferent governments adds depth to the story, unfolding against a backdrop of global uncertainty. Spanning continents and embracing multifaceted characters like President Zhang navigating China's defense strategies against the anticipated return of the Anunnaki, the narrative captivates with its intricate plot and cosmic themes. The God Protocol: Worshippers promises an exhilarating thrill ride, intricately blending technological intrigue with the mysteries of cosmic forces. Wilburn's captivating storytelling, well-drawn characters, and deep exploration of existential themes makes this book hard to put down. This sequel immerses readers in an enthralling world dealing with the consequences of an AI's vanishing act. It provides a reflective plunge into the intricacies of power dynamics, manipulation, and the quest for truth in the face of a rapidly evolving global scenario. The narrative's pulse-pounding intensity and cosmic enigmas make The God Protocol: Worshippers essential reading, deftly drawing readers into a captivating web of intrigue that holds them in suspense.
