Ok damn, I thought after reading the cursed manuscripts I couldn’t love Mr Wright anymore, and then I stumble on this masterpiece. Ok it might not be up there with the likes of Shakespeare BUT this book had me hooked from start to beyond finish. 760 pages and I’m still begging for more!
This author is not afraid to kill off your favourite characters, so beware!!
It is split into essentially 4 parts.
Book 1, path of infection, book 2 and the salvation chronicles.
Book 1: this was short, but packed a punch. The character development in all his novels are great, but to be able to make a reader feel so deeply about characters in such a short amount of time is perfection.
Book 2: I love the fact that we are reintroduced to characters from book 1 and got to follow their stories for longer. Additionally, I liked the whole concept of a villain other than the ‘zombies’. It gives you someone to be angry about and a great backstory to the whole virus/infection.
Path of infection/The salvation chronicles: In my opinion, these were INCREDIBLE! Without the books, you’d still be able to understand what’s happening, but these broke the story up, and gave it more depth.
The only let down for me was the lack of explanation for previous characters we knew. For instance, Mike & Eve. I do however, understand this is probably purposeful to show the nature of an apocalypse. Don’t dwell on the past, as such. I just wish I knew more. (Also, #justiceforpoppy)

A fun little read. I particularly liked how parts of the book gave us a glimpse into how the disease spread, the individuals involved, prior to the apocalypse.

I've been on a zombie reading rampage lately. I've bought all sorts all in the pursuit of finding one that really nailed it.
Well this duology is it. It's the best I've read and it is one of the best horror series I've read too.
I will say this, zombies are one of my biggest fears and this duology really got my heart rate climbing. I mean I was STRESSED out reading these books.
It is exactly how I imagine it would be. So many different people coming together to form odd groups bound by the horrors of losing everything they once knew. In this new world absolutely no one is safe. Every second you are breathing is a gift... or a curse depending on how you look at it. Brief moments of rest between eternal fleeing from the dead kept my blood pumping and eyes reading. Will any of them survive? Is there any hope left? Are humans worse than the dead?
I felt for these characters. I truly did. They are well written and ring true. Not your normal 2d creations that have a depth of a frying pan.
This author ripped me through page after page even when I didn't want to keep going, when I couldn't bear to know the fate of the characters and the animals we are introduced to.
As a side note, it was nice to see an author of this genre really take animals into account especially in the first book.
If you love zombie horror and are sick of having to sacrifice well written characters to get your zombie fix, these books are what you've been looking for.

Absorbing
I really enjoyed this read. The words just flowed.into me and I readily absorbed each and every one. I especially enjoyed the first book as I live not too far from the same areas.spoken about. Also loved that the animals were safe. Well mostly, but was nice to read they were safe.from the infected. I loved the little add on bits at the end, detailing other views etc. The two books combined made things flow so much better, and it was so much easier, this option should be out more. Anyways the books were easily read and kept me entertained with every word. A fascinating insight into what could happen and how things can so easily change our lives. A great exciting read that keeps you captivated and enthralled the whole way through. Definitely recommend!

well written
Zombie stories normally bore me and I only picked this up as enjoy this authors other work and got to admit I’m glad I did, there was actually a storyline other than the usual same old same old, done to death normal plot line in zombie books.
Well developed, (mostly) lovable characters and kept the interest going throughout

Made it so realistic.
This book won’t be for everyone, but I really liked how he didn’t make it a romance in a zombie world or everybody’s happy all the time and everyone lives. These books were so much more real-world based except for the fact you know zombies. The various heroes don’t always live and life is hard. The writing was so good that it pulled me in to their world.

good read
This is a good little story we don’t get enough of this sort of story based outside the USA. Makes a nice change when not everyone has an armoury of fire power.

Great read
I never tire of zombie books and IRW never fails to delight. His stories are gripping with suspense and you never know who the survivors will be. Such a clever writer!
