Suspicious goings on.
I enjoy this book. The author tried something different with this book. In the previous books Lily and her daughter Judy took centre stage and solved the cases but with this book its Lily's boyfriend who does most of the investigating. The ladies are involved but it is definitely Peter's case. There are a lot of suspects acting suspiciously for a small neighbourhood, especially with a case that nobody believes is one but it kept it interesting. You are kept wondering about a number of things but it all gets wrapped up nicely. Looking forward to the next investigation.
Judy's boyfriend is injured on the job and for an active cop being stuck at home, hobbling around on crutches is no fun. So when late at night he witnesses an attack he is quick to phone the police. When the police don't find a body or anybody at home they chalk it up to drinking while on pain medication. Peter can't let it go, even when the neighbours wife returns home safe and well. Can he discover what happened next door? With Judy and Lily's help us will have to get to know his neighbours a lot better to uncover if there is a murder living amongst them.
I liked the narrator. He makes the story flow nicely and keeps it interesting with the voices he gives the characters.
I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Poor Peter was stuck at home after an incident on the job and had to do his recuperation, but it didn't turn out nearly as boring as he'd figured. For one thing, he learned a lot about his and Judy's neighborhood and the people in it. But being a detective, was he seeing a mystery where there was none? Or was he really like the guy in Rear Window and actually witnessed a murder? He even had the wheelchair.

That story's been told on different mystery shows like Castle and Diagnosis Murder but since Peter's actually a detective, just maybe his recollection could be more credible? Maybe…or maybe not! It all led to an exciting showdown and explanation.

Peter has moved into Judy's house after their engagement. When he is injured in the line of duty he has to spend a lot of time at home recovering. After some friends come for a visit, Peter learns that wine and his pain meds don't mix. While he is up in the middle of the night, he thinks he sees a crime being committed in the house across the street. He wakes up Judy to take him across the street and they call the police and the police find nothing. But Peter is sure that he saw something, and Judy and he won't stop investgating till they figure out what really happened.
Great book with some twists and turns that kept me guessing.

I loved the narration of eff Moon, who brings the action and suspense to your ears.

While Peter is at home recovering and learns what it's like to be a nosey neighbour when things start happening in the middle of the night.
With the gossip, circumstantial evidence and twists and turns. Was there a murder and if so who committed it. Great characters and a plot that will keep you listening.

This is the fifth novella in the Pacific Northwest Cozy Culinary Series, a murder cozy mystery. I like this series. This is another great addition to the series. The story is entertaining, filled with intrigue and mystery. Jeff Moon did an excellent job bringing this story to life. Looking forward to listening to Convicted on the Kitsap Peninsula, the next book in the series.

New Author

New author for me, does seem to wander around searching for words. May want to lay back, eyes closed and let the animal talk to him in a relaxed mood positive way.
