Someone is seeking to destroy the Furycks, but who?

He has claimed her.
Now he will kill her.

I live in Auckland, New Zealand, and have done for three-quarters of my life. The other quarter was spent in England, where my kids were born. I have three of those, and they’re very cool. I’m a bit demented and thought it would be a good idea to have them a year or so apart. I’m still recovering from that misguided notion, but am convinced that a month in Bora Bora would set me right!
Speaking of travelling, as much as I crave a tropical island escape, you’re far more inclined to find me hankering after snow. We don’t have any of that in Auckland – not a drop! And, although it did snow occasionally in dear old England, I’m still looking for the up-to-your-window sort of snow experience. I come from Viking stock (my grandmother was Swedish), so maybe that’s why I have always craved the cold, white stuff. In fact, my husband and I bonded over our love of scarves.
'Twas love at first discussion about the pleasure of a good scarf!
My reading journey I was drawn to historical romance as a young reader. I loved anything by the Brontë sisters, but I think Jane Austen was my favourite author at that time. It was a toss-up between Pride & Prejudice and Jane Eyre for my favourite book as a tween. As I got older and developed a real love of history, I became obsessed with anything do with Vikings. I fell in love with Bernard Cornwell and Robert Lowe, Giles Kristian, too. But there’s always been time to fit in the next Diana Gabaldon. Her Outlander series is probably my favourite series ever (great tv too!). History is my one true love, so some of my favourites lately have been C.J. Sansom’s thrilling Tudor series and Patrick O’Brien 19th century naval adventures.
I always thought I would write the Furyck Saga as a historical fiction series, but I never found a period or place where it felt possible. Ultimately, I realised that actual history was far too limiting, so I stepped away from reality and entered the wonderful world of fantasy, and that’s when the fun started…
It took me a long time to become a writer.
I have ring binders and ring binders of stories, screenplays, tv show concepts, and book ideas that I’ve been creating since I was 10-years-old. I was always very fast with ideas but seeing them all the way through was a lot harder, and eventually, as I grew up, life and work got in the way. I would try writing Winter’s Fury off and on, but I never got very far, and dissatisfied, I always gave up, telling myself there simply wasn’t enough time to fit writing in around three children, two dogs, a graphic design business, etc. etc. But what I quickly discovered is that time is what you make of it.
Inspired by an article I read about James Patterson, who got up early to write his first book and fit it in around his job, I started making writing a daily discipline; the idea being that, bit by bit, I would eventually create an actual book. At first, it was tough. It felt like I was training for a marathon and I didn’t even know how to run. But every day it got a little easier and eventually, I started to write more freely, and one day I had enough of a book to show my husband. At this point it was either, forget it again, or keep going.
Wow! Another nail biter of a saga! Ms Rayne delivers again on an epic adventure full of pitfalls, betrayals, discoveries and yet…who is behind the destruction of the Füryck bloodline? **Spoliers…I think?!! I have a feeling that it’s Alekka’s goddess of Magic, the vengeful Alari, and hating Jael because of her defeat in Alekka and how Jael and the Islanders helped the rightful king of Alekka. A vicious king, a dark dreamer, a runaway king, a weak king and now a slave queen…what else can happen in the next installment? I feel like I was on a rollercoaster that made a sudden stop…and I don’t know where I’m at. Towers of Blood and Flame..brilliant!

Firstly, there were so many things that were drawn out way longer than necessary just for word count that it took away enjoyment. Secondly, our main characters were doing utterly ridiculously stupid things and having them done to them by the author and it was killing me.
Edela and her crew continue to be the definition of insanity. They’ve been hunted since leaving Tuura and know that dreamers are being killed and also that Edela is being hunted specifically by name, yet they are constantly calling out her name in public places, not once thinking to give her an alias. Siggy is running off all the time, ahead of Edela and Bertel, as if they don’t have someone chasing them from place to place. And Siggy has no problems listening to complete strangers and doing their bidding despite their being several people hunting them.
Then there’s the utter bs weakness that the author created in the fetters for Jael. Now, in the beginning, when they were first placed around her wrists, it would make sense for them to be heavy and make it awkward to move her arms, having not adjusted to the weight of them. But after wearing them for weeks, them now being an extension of her own arms, they should have been strengthening her arms. But it’s written that it made her arms weak? Um, no. Can’t see that. Especially not after all she had done with them on.
Then there’s Eadmund and Arras… After discovering that Arras was the man that kidnapped Jael, Eadmund didn’t bother asking how or even why he would leave Milla alive to sound the alarm! Nor did Thorgils or Fyn. No one seemed to care how they even got her quietly out of the camp or why no one saw them despite there being several lookouts keeping watch.
So, with a lot of unnecessary things and ridiculous things happening, it took away from the excitement of the story to me. These things didn’t just happen once. There were numerous occasions that these exact same things happened, hence the frustration and decrease in enjoyment.
Overall, I’m starting to see a recycling of the characters across the lands/kingdoms, just given different names. Their personalities are the same or very similar to someone we’ve met before. The dark witch dreamers, similarly, have the same air-headed MO, being that they are attracted to and support, evil, heartless, and unscrupulous men who likely advocate the type of wrong done to the dreamer in the first place causing her to seek revenge.
Hopefully it gets better and the well hasn’t run dry as I continue to read on. See my notes highlights and commentary on Goodreads. Happy reading!
After the ending of book one I was so frustrated and had to take a little break to regroup. After a couple of weeks I dove back in and can say I really enjoyed this one. Rayne’s style may not be for everyone. The books do not cover much of a timeline so it can feel as if you will never move forward yet there is plenty of action happening all the time. It’s just easy to forget that the over all timeline has not moved that much. Sometimes that’s good but other times it feels like a character is just stuck when there is no action to move that storyline along. Thankfully when that’s the case you don’t spend a lot of time with that character’s storyline but enough that it may start to drag a wee bit. It will come to fruition. The other thing is that you will follow multiple storylines and skip between them constantly. I find this to make the books seem fast paced and also so you know what’s happening with all the characters at the same time in the timeline. You aren’t resolving one line and moving to next until they all meet up. You are splicing all the various lines together as they are happening.
Also, these books are not about the domestic home-life of Jael and Edmund but about the stories that make Jael the fierce warrior queen of legend. So if you want a love story you won’t get that in the pages here. You just have to know that happens between these epic battles. What we are getting is the 9 book series (Saga) or in this case with Fate a 4 (and counting?) book series depicting the battle beginning in S’ala Nis.
These books are so underrated, I have read all 15 books still have have 3 books to go and everybook has left me wanting more! If you are in 2 minds please just read, you won’t be disappointed I promise. The plots the twists the characters are just amazing. If you like Vikings and game of thrones this book is a must! These books have so many interesting characters and each one brings so much more to the storyline. A.E Rayne is a magical writer and the way she brings each character to life is just amazing. The Furyck saga, lords of alekka and the fate of the Furycks has had me on an emotional rollercoaster from the start that I don’t want to finish, laughing, crying, anger, shock! These books needs its very own TV series. Again totally outstanding books!!!
This was another crazy exciting book with the furyck family. People trying to kill elda, alx making a mess of his live putting himself in danger by listening to the wrong people and poor Janel captured as a slave. The book lives up to everything and more. There is a few big type issues. In 3 different areas the book repeats short paragraphs towards the end of the book. Doesn't take away from the story in anyway.
An excellent epic fantasy with outstanding storytelling and well-crafted characters. The adventure is action packed with plenty of excitement, lots of suspense, and several twists. A page turning tale that I enjoyed and highly recommend. Ready for the next chapter in this outstanding epic adventure!
This didn't disappoint 👏 the initial Furyck saga was brilliant with such great characters and its great to have further adventures with Jael and her family I was lucky enough to come to the first saga when all the books were finished so was able to read the series non stop So my only disappoint here is the waiting for the next installment
Back with all of Jael’s warriors fighting against invisible enemies using grit, magic and love of family to defeat darkness. Jumping from one amazing character to another bringing all the stories to a culmination of heart pounding suspense, battles and good over evil. I cannot get enough. I’m sad to have to wait on the third in this series.
Though I love though the storylines, it though is really though irritating to read though what seems though like every other though word though. The book is though 683 pages though the word though is used over 1,000 times though. This though is what though it is like though reading the book though. If it wasn't though for the repetitive use of "though" I would though give this 5 stars though.
This was a quick read as I was taken back to the Furycks world. Watching each member of the family struggle on their own journey made this a page turner! The storyline had me at the edge of my seat. Watching to see what would happen with each little twist in the plot. It is so well written that i can see it in my mind as it happens. Absolutely recommend!!!
This book has 2 separate storylines, that are both intense. I am in awe of the authors ability to think of all these complicated pieces, and put them in a story that blows ones mind! Jaels character continues to grow in many ways, and the prophecy that she upholds is being challenged on many fronts. I look forward to seeing what comes up next!
This series as all of the ones before will make you gasp at all of the twists and turns! My regret is that it takes so long for the release of books so characters and events of previous books are hard to dredge up. For this reason I tend to leave subsequent series and go on to other authors. The Rayne series are the best though!!!
Great book, can't wait for the next. Jael, Edela, Axl, and all the side characters are struggling. Who will make it? Will the prophecy of the end of the Furycks line come true? This was a real page turner. I loved it!
I received this book for free and wished to leave a review.
Awesome nailing bitting but so many unanswered adventures to come. I am completely obsessed with your stories and action pack writing. Can't wait for the next one.
I ate up all the books with the Furyks and when I saw the new series, I was ecstatic! This 2nd addition to the series kept me on my toes and I read the book in 8 hours and can't wait for the next.
The series written by Rayne are so comprehensive in scope, never dropping a storyline or shortchanging her characters. In all aspects, the characters stay true to themselves. I can't wait for the next installment.
I couldn't put the book down! The next phase of this saga was well written and had me on edge, page by page, waiting to see what happened next. I am anxious now for the next book to arrive.
This series is the best read yet. I actually read both books without stopping. The fate of the Furycks is a must read and can't wait for the next book. There are so many plots and twists you will be left wondering what can happen next.
A whirlwind of action, with each characters stories weaving in and around each other. Intense ending - now got to wait for book 3 to be released! I really enjoy reading these books so will hate the wait!
She maintains her position of Queen of storytelling with this book. She is the best! Please keep them coming. You're a major reason I maintain my Kindle membership.
OMG what a book! I have had some very late nights reading this book. It was hard to put it down. I’m hoping there is another in this series soon. Loved it.
Didn't want this book to end..the crafting of this series so far is exactly what This author is known for, gripping and exciting, the characters are lovable and deep.
