An unexpected attraction leads a young woman to a temptation she cannot resist!
Dagmara meets an RAF fighter pilot. A romance begins as war breaks out in Europe. Assigned a dangerous mission, the young lovers are torn apart. After surviving a devastating plane crash and left for dead, Dagmara finds herself stranded in France, in a country at war. Witnessing the brutal deaths of the two remaining survivors, Dagmara disguises herself as a boy to evade Germans. Separated from her family and fiance, she is befriended by an Irishman. Pursued by a spy and hunted by Germans, the unlikely pair become allies. In enemy territory with only each other to rely on for survival, an inexplicable bond is formed, and their friendship leads to a searing night of passion. Two strangers from completely different worlds with nothing in common, risk everything for each other. You only get a few moments, sometimes only one that defines your whole life, and then it is gone... forever.
Three lives... One destiny... In love, there are no boundaries.
I loved this book! I think Lie with the Devil by Davin Colten is a wonderful, romantic, in love and war drama. The story was suspenseful, romantic, and exciting from beginning to end. One of the best in love and war stories I have read! I fell instantly for the arrogant hero, sexy Irishman, Colin Murphy.
I thought this novel was different from other in love and war stories, because the heroine, the beautiful, intrepid young English girl, Dagmara Morrow, is a very strong, brave, and clever young woman. She is not just waiting back home for someone to return during the war. She finds herself right in the middle, in all the peril, trying to survive. It was very original!
I loved the beautiful, innocent romance between the two main characters, the bond they form together during their incredible journey being pursued by a spy and hunted by Germans in war torn France. And how the unlikely pair of strangers, in enemy territory, with only each other to rely on for survival, become not only friends and allies, but also lovers, and the passion they share between them.
And I loved the ending, as the heroine, Dagmara, must choose between two men she fell in love with. Her fiancé, an RAF fighter pilot, William Cavill, and the arrogant, passionate Irishman, Colin Murphy, who saved her life!
The book was also very authentic in detail and description, as I would definitely recommend this novel to other readers who enjoy a great, suspenseful, romantic, in love and war drama like myself. I am definitely a fan of the author!
I read a lot of romances set during the 1930's and 1940's. Coming Home by Rosamunde Pilcher, and Atonement by Ian McEwan, are two of my favorites. I loved both films. The books coming to life on screen is the most enjoyable for a reader when they have found something they love. Now I have found a third classic, which has become a favorite of mine. I've just read Lie with the Devil by Davin Colten. It is one of the most passionate romance novels written. I've told all my friends. It's not as famous as Atonement or Coming Home, yet, but I hope someday it will be, and people everywhere can appreciate and enjoy this wonderful novel like I did. I would love to see this get made into a film like the other two novels. From the first page, it draws you into the story and you cannot put the book down. I loved the heroine, she was so real, she could be anyone of us. The heros, are portrayed to perfection. I won't give anyway the ending, but it's not what you think. I loved that aspect, the suspense, the adventure. I highly recommened this novel to anyone who loves a great romance, not just a piece of literary fluff. It was definitely worth the money!
You know those Up-talkers? The ones who are always adding inflection to their voice to make everything sound like a question? Even when it's a statement? Yeah. There's a lot of that in this book. At one point, one of the male leads is asked if the femme fatale is his sister or his girlfriend. His response: "She's my sister?" I totally expected it to take a turn toward soap opera land after that.
"Lie with the Devil" is stated in the book a few times, and every time it is italicized to get the point across to you that it is the title of the book. In short, if the copy editing was more precise, the book would have been much better.
