Rate this book
Aiden Moss and Torloch dragon and gargoyle, detectives extraordinaire, and now, world-class…babysitters? When a human child somehow gets past the wards at Headquarters, the team (with a little help from their friends) has to find out who the child belongs to and get her home, before they get arrested for kidnapping.

A lost family heirloom. A kidnapping gone wrong. And a pair of detectives who would really just like to be able to see the concert of a lifetime. But when duty calls, Aiden Moss and Torloch Doyle are on the case faster than you can say “pixies are conniving little...”

Helped by a dash of witchy charm, a sprinkle of vampiric speed, and a few late-night snacks, can the boys solve the case without breaking too many regulations?

Nicole DragonBeck was born in California one snowy summer long ago, the illegitimate offspring of an elf and a troll. At a young age her powers exploded and she was banished to the wilderness of South Africa because her spells kept going inexplicably awry. There she was raised by a tribe of pygmy Dragons and had tremendous adventures, including defeating a terrible Fire-Demon that had been tormenting a sect of Dwarf priests. In gratitude they taught her the arcane magic of writing and the rest is horribly misinterpreted history. She reads as much as she writes, is obsessed with dragons and Italians, enjoys cooking, listening to music and can often be heard fiddling on a keyboard or guitar.

“A Dragon, a Gargoyle and a Faery Make a Wish” sounds like the intro to a joke, it isn’t! It’s a warning that 100% humans will be few and far between.

That means magic and wards and an unlimited number of magical creatures. The storyline is a police action with humorous side trips. It’s a fun read with action which is always going sideways.

I really enjoyed this quick read. It made ma laugh through most of it and shake my head a few times as it was rather funny. This was my first time reading these characters and I thought they were a riot. Basically two detectives find a child wondering outside headquarters where she is not supposed to be and then the fun really begins. A bit slapstick at times added to the fun. Enjoyed the characters and the twists and the trouble these two poor guys had to go through to save the day and get the kid back to her family among trouble. Loved it.

I didn't realise that this was a prequel until after I read all the main series, (and went to start this one) I actually won this book from the authors during a featured post they did, which introduced me to these wonderful books in the first place, well this is one of two books I got from them. However, it's not the first time I've read a book out of order and it didn't lessen my enjoyment of the story in the slightest as I've come to love these two characters and all the shenanigans they get up to. And all I can say is I want lots more stories featuring this dynamic duo😄

Aiden Moss and Loch Doyle are looking to blowing of some steam and attending a concert of a lifetime. The last thing these two detectives expect is to find a human child outside, who has somehow got past the wards at Headquarters. Can the dragon and the gargoyle get this little lady back where she belongs, or will they end up getting arrested for kidnapping?

Being an introductory story to these characters and the fact it's only just over a 100 pages, it's a little hard to give my usual character breakdowns as I'll pretty much be giving the whole plot away. But if you haven't read these yet, this one is definitely a great one to start with. It's got lots of humor, low stakes, friendly banter and a bit of action. I love my nerdy book dragon, snack munching gargoyle and cheeky unseelie fae prince, and its a fun start to the whole series. Highly recommend 😁

Of all the Urban Fantasy books I've read thus far, this is one of the most unapologetically fantastical. We have gargoyles, dragons, vampires, leprechauns, pixies, faeries, goblins, witches, and I'm sure there are a few more I'm forgetting. It's a madcap adventure from the very first page and doesn't let up much throughout.

I cannot get enough of the banter between Aiden and Torloch. The way they play off each other, it really does come across like they've been working with each other for years. Their dialogue and interactions are very natural and believable, and funny to boot. I like how each of the chapter titles references something that is done or said within the chapter, that was a nice touch.

The cast of characters is quite large for such a quick read, and at times I had trouble keeping track of who was who. That did help to underscore the increasingly chaotic mess that the dragon and gargoyle found themselves in.

This is listed as #0 in the series, presumably a prequel or something along those lines. However, some of the other books were published before this one. At times it felt like I was missing some references or in-jokes that would have made sense to readers who were more familiar with the universe.

Overall though, this story was a hoot and I'm really glad it found its way into my TBR. I'll definitely be checking out their later adventures!

This is a fun, fast paced novella. It's a prequel but the authors have established the world and characters cleverly and the pay-off for the build up is worth it. I loved the grumpy/sunshine friendship pairing of the main characters and the unusual array of cheeky, menacing and determined secondary figures. The hints dropped about some personal history were very intriguing too!!

" 'Maybe…maybe we’re thinking about this too hard, making it too complicated.' 'When have we ever made something too complicated?' " - if this is the tone of the series, I know it will be great! That kind of self-deprecating humour always lifts my spirits.

I found this to be a light-hearted but layered story with great groundwork for the rest of the series.

This was a great book. It was a fast read for me and I enjoyed it and it was action packed. I was on the edge of my seat and I couldn’t put it down. There were many twists and turns for these two detectives but trouble was going to find them . These characters were so funny I was laughing so hard all over the place. These detectives found this child wondering outside without supervision around their headquarters. I love it . I can’t wait for the next book. I highly recommend this book and you won’t be disappointed. I received my copy this book via Bookfunnel and am voluntarily leaving my honest review. Trina Jones

My favorite detectives from Kindle Vella! I can't choose between Aiden and Loch. Fortunately I don't have to, because this fun paranormal mystery delivers light hearted adventure from this hilarious duo. Nothing boring here, these guys guarantee a good mood and I can't wait to read the next installment!

laughed my way through

Sitting at the dr’s office trying not to laugh out loud while reading this book. I mostly made it. Wonderful story with great characters. Funny enough that one of the staff asked me what I was reading. Told her about it. She said it might make her read some urban fantasy. I told her this was a great way to start. A definite must have

Great story
Loch and Aiden leave work and get no farther than the garden when their plans go awry. If things could go wrong they do in a spectacular way. Love these two.
