Mahadevi The Unseen Truth Behind Existence

Rate this book
This book is an attempt to draw closer to the essence of the Divine and shatter the several myths we might be dwelling on. It is branched into two parts. Part 1 is a narration by Mahadevi for a rational mind. An account of some enthralling events through the multiverse, inhabited by numerous celestial beings, in the backdrop of the genesis of this universe. A chronicle of Gods and Goddesses, their struggles, the devious web of right and wrong, love in its complete glory, its absence, ecstasies, miseries, and the wars of the worlds. Part 2 is an anthology of entrancing stories based on the nine forms of Mahadevi described vividly in Part 1, revealing her qualities in the every day women of Kali Yuga. These tales set in today’s times ask a silent yet germane question to all those who worship Her – if they can identify their Durga when they see one. Do they have the Eye for Durga!

Well, ladies and gentlemen, here we are, on the little island called, “That was unexpected!” How, you ask? Allow me to explain!

Imagine you’re doing a fantasy series run on the trot, with book #2 just done and you raring to pick up book #3. Imagine waking up to a message from the author of this book, saying if we can talk. Imagine they ask you if you would accept to be a Gamma reader. Imagine…

GR Folks: Yo! Yo, dude!
Anish: ‘Sup guys?
GR Folks: What’s a Gamma Reader?
Anish: Well…a reader who reads the book after the Beta Readers have already read it?
GR Folks: That’s not even a thing!
Anish: True, but would you say it is unexpected?
GR Folks: What?
Anish: What?
GR Folks: …
Anish: As I was saying…

I was given an e-ARC for this book with the intention of proof reading it before it got sent into publishing & so I read this book in Sep’2023, well before it came out. A small part of me feels awesome for having been a part of that process, no matter how small a capacity my involvement may have been. :D

So, let me break down this book and how I felt when I read it through.

Plot
What is this book about? This book is labelled as Mythology, which it definitely is, but it isn’t the kind of Mythology that, for example, Amish Tripathi does. It isn’t a fictionalized account of things nor does it dress down the mythology in a way to make it palatable. This isn’t dilution of mythology by way of making it easy to explain and/or digest. This book, the way I see and feel, is a straight up dose of mythology with no frills of any kind. It sort of feels unfiltered in the way it is presented.

This book, as the very title suggests, revolves around the feminine supreme energy that we know and revere in its NINE different forms. There is a chapter for every form with a story that tries to convey the essence of what that particular form of energy represents and why that form is needed instead of maybe just one or a few.

Now, let me abundantly clear that I am no kind of expert on Hindu Mythology but these are stories that I grew up on by way of either my mother telling me these or me reading about them in some way, shape or form. And all these stories felt very faithful in that sense, it felt like the mythology that I am acquainted with, which makes me feel somewhat vindicated that I’ve been consuming the right kind of content from the right kind of sources. Of course, the sanctity of each story is best confirmed by the author but to me it felt right. It felt like the author simply gave me the translation of the mythology with her interpretation of the crux of the story and that makes for a very good read.

Writing
Now, before we discuss the writing itself, let us discuss how the book is written. This book is split in two parts, each part containing nine chapters. The first part of the book, and all its nine chapters, deal purely with the mythology and tell a tale about the forces that be.
The second part of the book, is a collection of short stories that are set in the real world, with no mythological elements. Just plain old stories based on humans and their deeds. Some nice, some heartbreaking, some disagreeable and some downright horrifying.

The writing feels just as solid as her first book, My Jiffies, which blew me away at the time. Infact, I’d say that somehow, on this book, the writing felt a bit more mature, as if the author has grown in their craft. Now, it could simply be the subject matter that makes it seems so, but I highly doubt it bcz throughout the second part of the book, the writing feels even more solid than the first part, and that makes me lean towards the author having more mastery over their craft. And this is why I mentioned the layout of the book, to emphasize that there’s more being tackled here than just a retelling of the mythology.
The way the second part of the book is handled, despite my minor disagreements, the way the stories hark back to the stories of part one, feels very mature and natural. It’s not an easy thing to do and especially when it’s being done so well.

Throughout the first part of the book, it felt like I was being offered a distillation of the mythology that I’ve grown up around in a very approachable fashion, without ever detracting from the subject matter. During the second part of the book, it always felt so easy to make the switch from mythology to real world-based stories where Priyanka was almost without fail so spot on about how things play out in reality. She was always able to evoke the right emotions and make you feel the way she intends, and that is a huge plus.

But it isn’t just Priyanka’s craft that has grown. I, too, have grown much as a reader since 2017, when I first read Priyanka’s debut book. Today, as a reader, I can pick on things that I probably wouldn’t back then but most importantly, today I can articulate and put to paper things that I simply couldn’t back then.
The way Priyanka writes, and this is completely my opinion, it feels like it comes from a place of having lived a life rich in experiences, having been around people and things, having an understanding of people themselves. But that is not it, not exactly. Bcz see, the qualities I mentioned, these are the very defining traits of Stephen King, an author who I am a huge fan of, but his writing is wildly different. His writing, almost always, comes across as unhinged. A sense of chaos, born of deep understanding of things and people, seeps into his writing that make him an unparalleled Horror writer.
Priyanka, is the antithesis of that in the sense that her writing feels grounded, calm even. And I don’t think there is an exact word for this in English, so I’ll say it in Hindi, that it feels there is a lot of Thehraav to her writing. A sense of peace. That is why I fell in love with her as a boy, with a chaotic heart and mind. And today, as man with a calmer head and a sensible heart, who can tell her exactly what it is that she makes me feel, I can safely say, that I am still very much in love. And as you write, I shall keep reading. From your heart, to mine. For that is how we are twined.

Gripes/Preferences
Ahem…yes, I uh…I let myself go there for a while. I make no apologies for the matters of the heart. And these gripes that I am about to list down, too, are matters of the heart.

>> First chapter of the book and the intro that precedes are not the best indicators of what this book is as a whole. They feel a bit choppy and on the rougher side of things but I do promise you that post chapter one it is all smooth sailing and it gets incrementally better.

>> A universal failing of all Indian authors writing Hindu Mythology, I find, is that they fumble with the usage of the native words of our language. It almost feels like the authors can’t seem to fully embrace and commit to the use of Hindi words and it comes of as half baked. Priyanka falls victim to the same trap where she uses words like Bhu Lok & Ksheer Sagar but in the same paragraph she doesn’t use the words like Gurutvaakarshan for Gravity or Saur Mandal for Solar System. On the whole, she does a fair job but this is something I personally find irksome.

>> This is purely a personal preference thing but books that have a narration style do not work for me. It triggers my pet peeve when I get the feeling that the author is talking to you directly. It just doesn’t work for me. While this book does resort to the narration style of writing, the usage of that is pretty limited and only in the first half of the book. So not a major complaint but definitely did impact my enjoyability of the book to a certain degree.

Overall Impact
If this book were a food platter, which in its own way it is being a collection of multiple stories, it would make for a very delectable and fulfilling meal. A couple of bites may be a touch chewy but as a meal, it will satisfy you and would leave you with a hankering for more.

I personally feel that with each book, by the time you reach the end of it, a certain amount of fatigue sets in and you want to quickly finish the book. Obviously, the amount of fatigue is dependent on how well the book is authored and it is only the superior degree of books that leave you with a feeling that says, “ah, this book should have been longer”. And you get that feeling with this book which makes it a very amazing read.
Not to mention that the overall value of the book is even more accentuated, atleast for me, by the fact that this book is such a giver. It doesn’t demand too much from you as a reader, not a lot of time, not a lot of effort, not a lot of emotional investment and yet, it gives you a great read at a measly 260 odd pages. It evokes the right emotions in just the right amount and it makes you think in just the right amount. And just like that, it carries you to the end so smoothly.

Give it a try, and you just might be pleasantly surprised. Ciao!

PS: Priyanka, love, if you’re taking suggestions, Mahabharata next, please! Multiple book project with a detailing that we have come to love from you.
Or….or….if you wanna step away from mythology, another collection of short stories, based in real world, just like part 2 of this book, only that would be the whole book!
Thank me later :P

The book is a piece of work that masterfully blends modern topics with mythology, femininity and masculinity, and the individual with the universe at large. There are two sections to the book, each focusing on a distinct facet of Mahadevi. The mother goddess of all creation, Mahadevi, is the subject of several myths that are explored in the book's opening section. It examines Mahadevi's nine forms and how they contributed to the creation and maintenance of the universe. These tales, brimming with maternal tenderness, show Mahadevi battling demons to keep her kids safe. The author captivates readers with her excellent narrative, bringing these old legends to life with vivid detail.

The book's second section is devoted to Mahadevis in the present era. These are the ladies we see on a daily basis, fighting silently against the system to keep their loved ones safe. They take up the duty of providing for and caring for their families in addition to being committed to their careers.

The book has lucid language. The book is written in a gripping style. Fantastic book cover design. An intriguing title for the book.

"MahaDevi: The Unseen Truth Behind Existence" is a profound exploration into the ageless essence of the Divine, challenging prevalent myths and seeking to unravel the true meaning of mythology. Authored by Priyanka Sharma Kaintura, the book takes readers on a journey through the multiverse, delving into the genesis of the universe and the lives of celestial beings.

The narrative unfolds through the voice of Aadi Shakti Durga, the mother Goddess of all creation, offering a chronicle that spans the struggles of Gods and Goddesses, the intricate web of morality, the complexities of love, and the wars that shape worlds. Divided into two parts, the first section presents Mahadevi's narration of ancient Hindu stories, providing a refreshing and engaging retelling of narratives that have echoed through the ages.

The author's audacious attempt to revisit the tales shared by Bharat adds a contemporary flair to the narrative, making it a compelling read for both those familiar with the stories and those who may have grown disconnected from their own cultural lore. As the summary states, the book is divided into two parts. Part one consists of the events that led to the birth of the universe and the respective Gods (so interesting!) Part two is about how Devi can be found in women of our times.

Mahadevi is a unique book that talks about mythology but with an interesting perspective. Through the divine eyes of Mahadevi, we are enlightened about the creation of life, as we know it, from its very beginning. The different avatars of Devi teach us different virtues and purposes each of them has. But the highlight is the second part of the book where these instances are weaved together with the teachings and are brought to us through modern-day stories and situations. These stories touch the heart and reveal much to learn from.

It is simply brilliant how profound our ancient texts and knowledge are. They not only talk about how to lead an optimum way of life but also answer the many ‘whys’ we thought about as children.

I’m floored by the author’s writing style! The book is simply impossible to put down once you’ve started with it and to talk about a subject as mythology in such an absorbing manner is a feat in itself that is effortlessly achieved by the author.

There are multiple places in the book where I have made notes and highlighted them because, in my opinion, these are pearls of wisdom one can use every day.

The book is not a long, boring take on something that we already know. It is a beautiful, interesting rendition of the birth of the universe, the avatars of Devi and how she exists in each one of us. It is bound to leave you content and happy.

Mahadevi is truly a fulfilling read that makes one want to dive deeper and drink at least a drop of the vast ocean that is our ancient Hindu wisdom.

The book's dual parts offer a comprehensive exploration of spirituality and culture. In Part 1, Mahadevi's narration guides readers through enthralling events across the multiverse, unveiling the genesis of the universe, celestial beings, and the intricate struggles of Gods and Goddesses.

Part 2, an anthology of stories, vividly portrays Mahadevi's nine forms in the lives of contemporary women in Kali Yuga. This thought-provoking section challenges worshippers to discern Durga in the women around them.

Mahadevi by Priyanka S Kaintura. This book was something that was beyond imaginable. The amount of power and beauty this book holds is incomparable. I was so intrigued by its cover that I decided to read this book. But little did I know; the book turned out to be one of the most interesting reads I have ever read this year! I was mesmerized, stunned, when I turned the pages over and over. The description, the writing style, and the presentation of the story were too good! Speaking of the story, this book is about showing the unseen truth that is hidden behind our existence: it's about Mahadevi, Maa Durga, Bhagwati, Maa Ambika, the goddess of the gods, the goddess of creation, Prakriti, and her avatars. The book consists of two parts. The first part is about the avatars and the story behind our creation, and how life existed on earth, influenced by the supreme powers of Maa Mahadevi. The second part is about some stories from different parts of our country that are based on true events. Reading the book itself was a true privilege for me, and experiencing this blissful power that I feel inside my own self is beyond expression! I loved this book!

Mahadevi is a profound celebration of power, femininity, and firm strength. From the moment you open its pages, it draws you into a world where mythology meets reality, where goddesses are not distant deities but raw, unfiltered manifestations of womanhood. 🌙

In this book, Mahadevi isn’t just a singular goddess she is every woman’s spirit. She is the unapologetic storm, the nurturing embrace, the fierce protector, and the embodiment of divine chaos. The story breathes life into the essence of the goddess, reminding us that she is not merely worshiped but lived within every heartbeat, every struggle, and every triumph.

🌺💫 Themes That Pierce the Soul 💫🌺
The book beautifully delves into themes that resonate beyond mythology

Reclaiming Power: Mahadevi teaches that being powerful does not mean being unfeeling. It means acknowledging your pain, your rage, and your gentleness without fear of judgment.

Acceptance of Self: Through each goddess, we see that embracing both our darkness and light is not just a choice but a necessity.

The Cycle of Destruction and Creation: Life does not move in a straight line; it spirals through rebirth and decay, and only by accepting this can one truly grow.

The balance of creation and destruction is a profound metaphor for life itself ,how every end births a beginning, and every fall gives rise to new strength. It’s a dance of destiny, and Mahadevi holds the rhythm. 🧡🌻

When I came across the book "MahaDevi: The Unseen Truth Behind Existence" I thought it would be a book based on Indian mythologies. But when I closely looked at the cover and read the blurb, I understood that it is much more than pure mythology and it is a book which has masterfully blended the ancient tales with the modern lives of remarkable women. I am glad that I read this book.
The book is divided into two parts – The first part tells nine stories of Mahadevis along with various Gods, Celestial bodies, Goddesses, etc. The second part contains another nine stories of modern-world women who possess the divine qualities which are included in the first part of the book. Isn’t this style unique and wonderful?
Now, let us first talk about the first part. These nine stories of Mahadevis are taken from the ancient scriptures and they are part of our mythology. But the author has told them with a new and refreshing perspective offering her insights and her take on these tales. Her approach makes these stories more enjoyable and young readers who don’t have much exposure to the ancient tales would enjoy these stories. The author has beautifully demonstrated the internal as well as external struggles, joys and sorrows, etc. of these divine personalities.
The second part which is equally or even more appealing tells the stories of diverse women of our times who imbibe the qualities of Mahadevis. Each story delves into one divine quality which was talked about in the first part of the book. So, for each of the ancient tales of Mahadevi, the author has given us one corresponding story of modern-day women. The readers can easily relate to these stories as we often come across these women in our daily lives. These stories will make us realize the struggles of women around us and their remarkable strength in dealing with such struggles and their triumphs. It can be an eye-opening experience for many of the readers who often fail to recognise the importance and value of these women around them.
What sets this contemporary mythological work apart is its audacious attempt to challenge existing beliefs and myths. The author has, through these stories, tried and succeeded to bridge the gap between ancient wisdom and modern lives. It is a must-read for those who understand the importance of reading and spreading such important stories.

Mahadevi by Priyanka Sharma Kaintura is a book that explores the essence of the Divine and challenges the myths and beliefs that we have about the Hindu goddesses. The book is divided into two parts: the first part is a narration by Mahadevi herself, who takes us through the creation of the universe, the wars of the gods, the love and pain of the divine beings, and the role of the nine forms of Mahadevi in the cosmic order. The first part describes about 9 different forms of Durga which are Kushmanda, Bhuvaneshwari, Saraswati, Shivaangi, Mahamaya, Sati, Bhagwati, Uma and Ambika. Priyanka describes about the beginnings, wars etc and stories related to these deities in a classic way. The second part is a collection of nine stories that depict the qualities of Mahadevi in the everyday women of the Kali Yuga, the present age of darkness and ignorance. Priyanka tells us about the topic by giving human examples which I personally feel is very easy and convenience to understand.

The book is a captivating blend of mythology, spirituality, and feminism, as it portrays the goddesses as powerful, compassionate, and complex beings, who are not just the consorts of the male gods, but the creators and protectors of life. The book also celebrates the strength and resilience of women, who face various challenges and struggles in their lives, but never give up on their dreams and aspirations. The book is full of poetic language, vivid imagery, and profound insights, that make it a delightful and enlightening read.

Some of my favorite lines from the book are:

- "She is the one who creates, sustains, and destroys. She is the one who is worshipped, feared, and loved. She is the one who is Mahadevi, the supreme goddess."
- "The universe is a manifestation of her energy, her shakti. She is the source of everything, the ultimate reality, the Brahman."
- "She is not just a goddess, she is a woman. A woman who loves, who suffers, who fights, who forgives, who lives."
- "She is in every woman, and every woman is in her. She is the Mahadevi, the unseen truth behind existence."
I would recommend this book to anyone who want to know more about lord Mahadevi and also to understand that women are equally important in every aspect as men.

In this captivating and thought-provoking book titled "Mahadevi" the author takes readers on an extraordinary journey, aiming to unveil the essence of the Divine and dispel the myths that often cloud our understanding. The book is a dual narrative, divided into two parts consisting of nine chapters each that seamlessly blend mythology, creation, and contemporary storytelling.

Part 1 unfolds as a mesmerizing narration by Mahadevi herself, crafted for the rational mind. It traverses the multiverse, delving into celestial realms populated by Gods and Goddesses. Against the backdrop of the genesis of the universe, the author weaves a chronicle of divine struggles, the intricate web of morality, the complexities of love, and the epic wars that shape worlds. This section serves as a bridge between ancient myths and the cosmic order, offering a profound exploration of the divine tapestry.

Whereas Part 2, an anthology of enchanting stories, intricately ties back to the nine forms of Mahadevi described vividly in Part 1. These tales are set in contemporary times, exploring the everyday lives of women in the Kali Yuga. The stories pose a silent yet crucial question to those who worship Mahadevi – can they recognize the qualities of Durga in the women they encounter in their daily lives? Do they have the eye to perceive the divine within?

Endorsements from notable figures like Dr. Shashi Tharoor, Dr. Anand Ranganathan, Sushil Pandit, Rekha Sharma, and Dr. Kiran Bedi emphasize the book's significance and its unique perspective on Hindu Goddesses. Dr. Tharoor commends the book for its intriguing exploration of mythology and creation, while Dr. Ranganathan lauds it as a brilliant blend of ancient history and contemporary storytelling with a nuanced take on womanhood.

In "Mahadevi" the author seamlessly intertwines ancient wisdom with contemporary narratives, creating a tapestry that not only honours the divine feminine but also challenges readers to perceive the divine in the women around them. This book is a brilliant exploration of mythology, womanhood, and the enduring relevance of our ancient stories.

“Then Uma held her favourite blue Lotus in one hand, suggesting her blissful reliance on her lover and husband, Rudra. And a trident in another hand, signifying her detached individuality. Authority in one hand and compassion in another powerful yet stoic.”

AdiParashakti is the original creator, observer, and destroyer of the universe. She is also the supreme being from whom other forms of divinity, including gods like Shiva and Vishnu, emerge.

Mahadevi by Priyanka S Kaintura is about AdiParasakti. In the words of the author- “Mahadevi is an account of some enthralling events through the multiverse, inhabited by numerous celestial beings in the backdrop of the genesis of this universe. Recounted by Adi Shakti Durga, the mother Goddess of all creation, it is a chronicle of Gods and Goddesses, their struggles, the devious web of right and wrong, love in its complete glory, its absence, ecstasies, miseries, and the wars of the worlds”.

Mahadevi by Priyanka Kaintura is a compelling exploration of feminine strength, resilience, and spirituality, crafted as a reimagined mythological narrative. The story immerses readers in a world where goddesses and mortal women alike confront personal challenges, reflect on the societal constructs around them, and emerge empowered through self-discovery. Kaintura brings these tales to life with poetic prose, blending mythological depth with relatable, modern insights.

“The tide has turned. Which is the very nature of time. It is loyal to no one.”

The book is divided into two parts. The first is about the nine forms(avatars) of Devi and the second part has short stories through which the author shows these nine forms of Devi in us; the ordinary women and how their qualities are reflected in contemporary women.

The nine forms of Devi are Kushmanda, Bhuvneshwari, Saraswati, Shivaangi, Mahamaya, Sati, Bhagwati, Uma, and Ambika. These nine chapters of part I explore aspects of divine femininity and invite readers to see the goddess archetypes as symbols of strength that transcend time.

“MahaDevi: The Unseen Truth Behind Existence” is an exploration of the Hindu Mythology and the pantheon of Hindu goddesses in particular. The book explores the stories of different goddesses from the Hindu culture, capturing the essence of the divine, deciphering the true meaning behind the mythical stories and dispel the common myths. This is not a fictionalisation of mythical stories but the narration of myths in its purest form.

The book is divided into 2 parts. Part 1 narrates the stories of nine goddesses from the Hindu texts. From Bhuvaneswari, Saraswati to Shivaangi, Mahamaya, Uma and Ambika. The second part is a collection of stories based on real life that narrates the stories of extraordinary women who embody the qualities of these goddesses

The book is based on a truly unique concept. While we are fairly acquainted with the stories of the goddesses, we are rarely familiar with the stories of the heroic women around us. Each goddess is a symbol of an unique quality; she is a caregiver, a warrior, a lover or a mother. In the same way, each heroic women embodies a quality of each goddess in her modern avatar. She is a protector of the society, a destroyer of evil and a loving force binding the universe together.

What sets the book apart is that it goes beyond the stories in the holy texts and captures their true meaning. Be it Mahadevi’s courage to fight evil, Uma’s strong devotion, Sati’s pure love or Saraswati’s single-minded sense of duty. Each represents a different facet of feminine energy and this collection of stories is a tribute to the divine feminine energy in each of its form.

The writing tries to simplify the texts which helps you grasp their true meaning making them accessible to a wider audience. The in-depth knowledge of the texts makes it a informative read.

Overall “MahaDevi” combines ancient wisdom of texts with modern storytelling, exploring the divinity of feminine energy in it’s countless forms. A great read for everyone. #Mahadevi #PriyankaSharmaKainthura

The first section presents a mesmerizing retelling of ancient Hindu stories, offering a refreshing perspective on well-known narratives. Kaintura's audacious attempt to revisit these tales adds a contemporary flair to the narrative, making it accessible and engaging for a broad audience. What sets this book apart is the author's ability to weave these fragmented tales into a cohesive and illuminating perspective, going beyond a mere repetition of stories found in ancient texts.

The second part of the book brings the divine qualities of Mahadevi to life through contemporary stories. 🌆 MAHADEVI THE UNSEEN TRUTH BEHIND EXISTENCE 🌆
By Priyanka Sharma Kaintura

✒️I have very little basis with which to judge this work, as I had hardly any knowledge of Indian mythology, no knowledge whatsoever of this particular epic, and no familiarity even with MAHADEVI. What I can say—considering the original prose's enormous length—is that this book is both short and readable; more than that, it is interesting and enjoyable.

✒️While I am sure whether I derived any profound life lessons from this tale of gods and heroes, I passed a few delightful hours and achieved at least a basic familiarity with a story that is vital to millions. That seems like a valuable book to me.

✒️An incredibly pleasant read, with some interesting and additional information about God's and Goddess. Love is there with the missing of joys and sorrows. And the world war part I love it very much.

✒️There are two different parts, the first part iterate the ancient Hindu stories. The author did a wonderful job in weaving this together, which worked very well for the readers like me. The second part including the life of Mahadevi with some modern tales. It's adds the deepness of the story. It encourages the readers to recognise and appreciate the calibre in our day to day life.

✒️This version is barebones, but with enough meat to really provide a great framework for diving into a deeper, lengthier version of the text, provided an reader such as myself can find one. If anything, this text reminds me how absurdly complex and rich this culture is and, compared to staples of Western civilization, it is humbling to see an ocean when all you have seen before are ponds and lakes.

✒️If anything, through this story and the Mahadevi, I have developed a genuine (and unexpected) love and respect for Hinduism; it has profoundly impacted the way I live -- especially the way I think about storytelling and folklore.

A girl, woman, mother, sister, daughter and wife. There are so many roles a woman has to play in order to survive in this world. This world who never truly appereciated a woman in their or someone else in life. We women are also important in the cycle of life actually the most important because we have the inherent power to make a life and give them the chance to come in this life, still we are known to be the last in any decision of the family as this is male patriarichal society.
This whole world is based on a woman a goddess that is mother earth but as human we don’t even appericiate her also. The fact that even mother earth is extortedtill it will never be of use for us is the prime example that women will never be appericiated in this world. It doesn’t matter which Yuga, women are mistreated in each and every one of them.
This book tells us the unseen and unaccepted truth behind the existence of this planet, galaxy and even the universe. The supreme goddess is Prakriti/Mahadevi/Shakti who is responsible for everything happening here. Without whom no life could exist on this planet ever. It also tells about the nine Avtars of the goddess durga that we celebrate in the festival of Navratri twice a year in our country. We all know the stories but this has a unique perspective and way to tell the stories.
Second part of the book is about 9 girls who shows the same powers, mindfulness and exceptional things but in the modern world. This book tells us that if a woman decides to do something nothing can stop her. The stories are inspiration for every girl out there who are told that they are the weaker part of the society and without men they can do nothing and will die without them or their support.
Women in our times are known by either their father, brother or husband while our gods are known by their wives name first like, SITARAM, RADHAKRISHNA, GAURISHANKAR, LAXMINARAYAN and many more but the men of our society have the wrong perception that they are the supreme when their existence wouldn’t be there without a woman.
Read this beautiful story that will open the eyes of many men and women that is desperately needed in this society right now.

Title : Mahadevi: The Unseen Truth Behind Existence
Author : Priyanka Sharma Kaintura

MahaDevi: The Unseen Truth Behind Existence by Priyanka Sharma Kaintura is a captivating exploration of mythology, bridging the gap between ancient tales and contemporary life. Divided into two parts, the book skillfully narrates mythological stories of the nine forms of Mahadevi while juxtaposing them with modern-day women embodying similar qualities.

The first part, narrated by Aadi Shakti Durga, offers an enthralling account of celestial beings, struggles, love, and the intricate balance between right and wrong. It provides a fresh perspective on the mythological realm, adding depth and insight into the stories that have shaped cultural values.

In the second part, Kaintura brings these divine qualities to life through contemporary stories. These narratives of modern-day 'Mahadevis' resonate with depth and significance, connecting the ancient with the current. The author's ability to seamlessly intertwine mythology with the contemporary world is commendable, making the book relatable and accessible to a diverse audience.

One of the standout aspects of MahaDevi is its relevance and relatability. By portraying modern women embodying the qualities of Mahadevi, the book encourages readers to recognize and appreciate these traits in everyday life.

My favorite character from the book is the modern-day 'Mahadevi,' as she represents the strength, resilience, and nurturing spirit found in ordinary women facing extraordinary challenges. I recommend this book for its unique approach in merging mythology with the present, offering profound insights and a refreshing perspective on timeless tales, making it a compelling read for both enthusiasts of mythology and those seeking wisdom in contemporary narratives.

I’ve grew up with hearing these stories,i have felt immense joy and nostalgia while reading this book. It's always special to revisit familiar tales and discover new layers of meaning within them.

This book is absolutely fascinating, with its two-part structure.
Part 1 of the book took me on a captivating journey narrated by Mahadevi herself. It's intriguing to explore the multiverse and witness the genesis of the universe through the eyes of celestial beings. The struggles of Gods and Goddesses, the intricate web of right and wrong, and the complexities of love are all elements that make this part of the book truly enthralling. I can only imagine the epic battles and celestial dramas that unfold within these pages!

Moving on to Part 2, it's intriguing how the author has crafted an anthology of stories based on the nine forms of Mahadevi described in Part 1. By bringing these divine qualities into the lives of everyday women in Kali Yuga, the book raises a thought-provoking question. Can we recognize the presence of Durga in the women we encounter in our daily lives? This exploration of the divine within the ordinary is a unique and refreshing approach.

What I find particularly intriguing about "Mahadevi: The Unseen Truth Behind Existence" is how it aims to challenge our existing beliefs and myths. By drawing closer to the essence of the Divine, the book encourages us to question our preconceived notions and look beyond the surface. It's a thought-provoking journey that invites us to reflect on our own spirituality and the role of the divine in our lives.

I believe this book has the potential to be a mind-opening and transformative read,With its blend of mythology, spirituality, and contemporary storytelling.

Part Two takes a different approach, focusing on nine stories that highlight the often-overlooked qualities of Mahadevi within ordinary women of today. What makes *Mahadevi* stand out is Kaintura’s ability to marry ancient myths with modern sensibilities. In this book devoted entirely to the female goddess , the author has explored the various incarnations or forms of the divinity holistically.

The book narrates the origin tales of some forms of the goddesses like Ambika , Sati , Shivaangi , Uma etc. It describes in detail their creation and their purpose. The author has tried to separate the wheat from the chaff and provide accurate details about the stories concerning these female divinity. In this examination , the author exemplifies the virtues embodied by these goddesses. For instance , the goddess Ambika has been described with her warrior spirit and the goddess Kushmanda has the power to create the cosmos. These descriptions provide an yet somewhat unexplored realm of Hindu mythology focusing entirely on the Prakriti aspect of the divine.

In the second part of the book , the author has used contemporary tales to display the virtues in the present setting using several female characters as her muses. Each character deriving inspiration from a particular goddess displays the inherent qualities present in all the women. These tales provide a relatable aspect to the overall theme and help the consciousness of the present woman resonate with that of the goddesses. This juxtaposition of ancient with the present helps the reader connect with the theme deeply.

From creation to nurturing to destruction, the Hindu goddesses have an equal and important role to play in the Hindu belief system. This book is a remarkable step to get nuanced information of the other half of the male trinity who complements them in every way.

This book is quite different from what I have read till date. In fact I am glad I picked this up in the year when I am trying something new. This book is a collection of book books to say. The first part of the book is more about the concepts of devi that the author is trying to convey and the second part of the book is a collection of short stories which are based upon various characteristics and names of the deities mentioned in part one.

For the part two, the stories are short and fun. They are build around in modern world and and the situations we all can relate too. I felt that the stories were too short as there was not much of the character development and role assigned to the main character of the story but it relayed the message that was to be conveyed by the author and gives away the characteristics the author wants to highlight. So, I guess the purpose is served.
For the first part, I am quite confused for how to take it. It challenged the things we already know and some factors were not quite correct. May be some more research can do. But if take the same as fiction, it is good to go. The build up of the stories is good and I like the way the symbolism is presented.

Overall it is a light read. I liked the way Sanskrit verses are used. They are properly explained and narrated. If you are looking for some short stories, you can definitely pick this one up.

Ya Devi Sarvabhuteshu...................................

Mahadevi by Priyanka Sharma Kaintura is a beautiful portrayal of "Adishakti" and her forms. I have read many stories of NavDurga in my childhood. All of them just came alive in this book. It was a spiritual journey of around 300 pages. Each story starts with a small description of the goddess. But first, I would like to talk about the cover. I felt the cover has a dual meaning where we see the goddess holding traditional weapons, but, not only that, she is a mother and has many more forms. My favorite has always been "Sati", who sacrificed her life for honor. And it is not just some spiritual story book; it portrays every woman in this world. Woman who is a mother, wife, teacher, or warrior. These goddesses are a true inspiration for us in today's world, where the youth is lost in following fake role models. Also, the author has included "Durga Stuti" to make the atmosphere more powerful.

This book is a celebration of power and motherhood. After reading it, you are definitely going to feel the love and power of "Durga". There are so many small details provided in the stories. Each goddess symbolizes a different power. Be it "Maa Saraswati", who shows us the way to knowledge and wisdom, or "Maa Kushmanda", who is the bringer of life. And if you are reading about them for the first time, then it is going to open a new door to the spiritual world for you. Definitely, the book deserves 5 stars.

We have had villains, heroes, time and death narrate a story, but this was my first time reading a book where Mahadevi herself was narrating her own story! When a power so gentle yet fierce narrates her story, it's bound to give anyone goosebumps! (To be honest, after a long time I was reminded of “Main Samay Hoon”)

Who is she, how she created the world, what is her role in this universe, and her heart melting love for Shiv; she narrates everything in her own words. I guarantee that every reader will be in awe! Even when you know everything, you still will be in awe, that good is her narration!

And the love! Uff! Pulchritudinous!! The love of Shiv and Shivaa itself is beyond any other love story. So comparing this book to any other romance book to praise and explain its beauty is out of the question. I was enthralled, beguiled and allured into this gorgeous love story! ❤

Oh, and the way Mahadevi narrates about all her forms and powers is just extraordinary! Her magnanimity and fierce redressing of the evil leaves the reader astonished (and a tad bit scared of her fierceness😄)

Another unique and smart thing the author did in the book is, she used modern day stories to explain the various forms of Mahadevi. Quite a sharp-witted thing to do I must say!

Saying it was an amazing read would be selling it short. Dr. Anand Ranganathan, Dr. Sashi Tharoor, Dr. Kiran Bedi and many more personalities only had great comments and praises for this book. So what are my fellow readers waiting for? Give this one a read!
