I would have given zero stars if possible. Incredibly badly written, and obviously no editor at all. Character names change, vehicles get scrambled, no flow at all. Awful!
So this may sound a bit weird but parts of this book made me laugh! And I mean really laugh out loud. I know this is a murder mystery and a very serious story about a serial killer but there were some crazy characters in here and they just do the most outrageous things. And I found that so funny!! And yes I absolutely loved that too. The humor made the tale more entertaining and fun. Plus it added something new, A type of twist. It was also the last thing I was expecting too.
So Rachel Blackwood and her partner Ethan Morgan are back on another case. This time a dead woman was found on the huge ranch that belongs to the Clarks. And the Clarks are mighty strange people all right. They seem to carry guns everywhere and they certainly don't like the law. It's not exactly clear to me why they don't like the law but they get very argumentative and like to do their own thing. Unfortunately for them there is a dead woman on their land so the Texas rangers get sent in.
Poor Rachel has to deal with their bad behavior. That alone is very entertaining.
Things heat up a bit in here between Rachel and Ethan. I am unsure how I feel about that.
I feel that I am getting to know the characters better now. They are certainly more fleshed out, especially Ethan. His personality is starting to show.
So the story has lots of action and danger. There are also scenes from the killer's perspective even if we are clueless as to who it is. But this is a very decent murder mystery. And I liked this one better than the first one. Mainly because it made me laugh. I was actually laughing at it last night in bed - that one particular scene was so out there it was hysterical!! I don't know how anyone can even think of doing such a stupid thing - but it involves plumbing. I was supposed to be sleeping but I was laughing instead.
The book is not really set up so you can guess who the killer is.
I love the American Indian Detective, she is hard & Wild . Most of us can wish We were like that . Ending was hard to figure out , That good Hate Books you know Ending or Story. Loved It , reading all the Rest ! Too
This was another great story by Blake, but I feel like something has changed with her editors. There have been numerous mistakes in the series where I usually don’t see any.
I am already a fan of Blake Pierce, however he just continues to keep me 'holding my breath'! This book was awesome. I read it quickly, anxious to see how it would end! He's "hit another home run" with me! Jill Nordin
Texas Ranger Rachel Blackwood tracks down serial killers in Texas. I recognize the settings as I am a Texan and enjoy the mysteries. I rate this a 4.8.
