Soft and fluffy in patches. I loved the idea of community spirit when the cat sanctuary was under threat. Being from Essex originally i enjoyed all the local geography. Just felt abit lacking after reading some books recently which really held my interest.

I am a cat person through and though and immediately picked this story because it sounded touching and fun. And it sure was! The story warms the heart, the cat sanctuary setting was purrfect, and the charming narrative and fully fleshed characters -- each working through personal angst -- made for a feel-good tale I could not put down. Recommended!

'Feel-good read', my ASS. This was depressing as FUCK. In fact, it was so depressing that Anna started to make me feel distressed. The marketing of this is so horrendously bad and I am salty. Salty enough to keep track of when it started feeling more "up-lifting". 76%: so that makes it 281 FUCKING DEPRESSING PAGES.
Listen, I'm mad as fuck, but the writing was still good. I can't deny that. The story was fine. I wouldn't have picked it up if it were marketed properly, but if you want a story about a bunch of people in desperate need of therapy coming together, this is for you.
Also, I could've done with some joyful cat stuff, since that is another reason I picked this up. But once again, it just made me feel upset.

a cosy but uneventful read
⭐⭐⭐⭐

best bits 👇🏻
🐈‍⬛ diverse range of characters
🐈‍⬛ LGBTQ+ coverage
🐈‍⬛ cats, of course

complaints 👇🏻
🐈 kind of shitty mental health coverage - it's there but it feels like it's written from a slightly judgemental middle-aged perspective rather than being fully open
🐈 not enough happens, the plot is okay but it wasn't thrilling and it did feel a bit of a slog to get through

i recommend this book for chilled cosy readers but be prepared that not too much happens so if you like action/fantasy this probably isn't for you :)

Well, it was a book full of largely unlikeable characters for me and one that ended up being a bit of a rage read but boy did I enjoy it! And they started to mellow and win me as the pages went on.

I’m also a fond reader of any book related to cats with an animal rescue setting so I had no problem picking this one up. Fictional cats are as adorable as real ones. Especially when I don’t have one, I can live my fantasies through literature!

The story I was most hooked on was Paul and Luke. I loved their updates and I got more drawn into the characters each respective plots as I went on. I read the book pretty much in 2/3 days and I nearly DNFed but I’m glad I didn’t. Following a group of people who need to sort their shit out, start with a load of messy shit and it unravels as shit gets sorted. My perfect story arc.

This one had been on my shelf for a while and I’m glad I got round to it. Enjoyed it alot more than I thought I would at the beginning so 5 star nice contemporary read. With a side helping of cats.

Thank you to Netgalley and Hera books for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Do you love cats? Are you craving a book from the UK? Do you love when a group of characters who have different stories weave together with one commonality? Or perhaps you love a heartfelt happily ever after? Then this book’s for you!

Charlie Lyndhurst’s The Cosy Cat Society is just as I had described above - it follows a group of people, no one real main character / all equally important to the story, who are all connected through Fluffy Paws adoption agency. Whether it’s grieving, stress at work or home, or complicated relationships, all of them find refuge in saving cats.

I absolutely adored this story. Heartwarming at its best. I felt like it was written for me at the perfect time, just having traveled to the UK and loving cats myself. Several times it made me smile, tear, and hug the Choob. I loved it and have already bought my own copy - can’t wait for it to arrive!

A few criticisms I had - it was a bit slow to start. I felt like I was trying to get which character was who for a longer time than I’d liked. There were also points that felt repetitive - I actually stopped and thought I had read it already. And points in the book felt a bit dull and dragged.

Overall though, I loved the book and the cast of characters. Such a great feel-good story and one I’d be happy to reread again and again!

This was a “Cosy” read about a group of people who volunteer at a cat shelter. Each person has their own individual story through which they are trying to work and the cats serve as almost therapy cats for them. I enjoyed reading the story between Sasha and Luke although, I thought she was a bit harsh to him with such a sensitive subject of his birth parents. I do wish there had been more personification of the cats and their stories mixed with the stories of the volunteers. The only similarities were of these cats trying to get adopted and Luke’s search and discovery of his birth mother. This is just another sweet tale of how humans just don’t deserve animals. Animals are fantastic. All in all, I think this would be a nice rainy weekend read for people who are heavily fond of cats.

I am a cat mum/nan so that title would draw me in before anything else!
The Cosy Cat Society centres around a cat sanctuary, its owner, Sacha, and several key volunteers who spend much of their time supporting a just cause.
When it becomes apparent that there is an even bigger worry about the sanctuary's future, Sacha tries to keep it from the others until it becomes apparent that a problem shared is a problem halved.
The same goes for the rest of the volunteers, who each have their own worries that they need the help of their friends to work through.
It is a delightful read, cleverly intertwining the stories of several characters and highlighting the plight of many of our feline friends.
And there is a little romance within, too!
The kitties and I approve!

I really wanted to have liked this book, but unfortunately that wasn't the case. I felt that the story was very all over the place, the characters were not catchy, and the chapters were boring.

I think I went in with too high expectations for this book and unfortunately it didn't meet what I wanted. The best story for me was Sasha and Luke and Luke and Paul. Otherwise, it had 0 interest for me. I wanted to have seen more interaction with the cats at the cat sanctuary and it wasn't until towards the end of the book that we get a sense of his way of working.

Regardless of my opinion, thank you to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for approving this book for me!

i read a decent amount of this book, and it never caught my interest. what i read was painfully slow, there are too many characters to keep track of, and the european nuances made my comprehension slower. i’m not about to spend the time reading a book i’m not excited about, so this is a dnf.

Well after looking at the mixed reviews I didn't know what to expect, but I loved this book.
The characters along with the cats brought this book alive.
Their love for cats helping to forge friendship and love, to help one another with their very different dilemmas.
As a huge cat lover and cat owner I could truly understand the therapy these cats gave.
Could not put it down, highly recommend.

So I’m a huuuge animal lover. I also worked as a volunteer for a cat rescue organization, fostering at home. When I first read the description of this book I couldn’t resist making it a must read in my pile!

The Cosy Cat Society takes you in the journey of the life of the volunteers at an animal shelter and how they go through different struggles while supporting each other and being connected on the communality of being cat lovers.

Overall the story seemed mellow, I’d probably recommend this as a beach read. The plot isn’t over complicated and somewhat predictable but nevertheless heartwarming. I very much enjoyed my reading, only wishing I was taken a bit deeper on the life, stories and experiences of some of the cats. I was very much expecting that to happen but sadly that wasn’t the case.

It’s a 3,5 out of 5 stars for me. If you are looking for a heartwarming, cat loving people, and breezy storyline to pass the time, this is for you!

This was an impulse buy because the cover was cute, and it was sort of what I expected, sort of not.

I think I expected the story to be, if you excuse the pun, fluffier. As is, I don't think "cosy" is the wrong descriptor - although I say this as someone who hasn't read many books that are in the cosy genre, if that makes sense. The start was a little bit difficult to get into, but as the storylines progressed and came to their conclusions, it does grow into something very sweet.

The characters start out seeming to have little in common apart from their time at Fluffy Paws, a small cat sanctuary in Essex. I haven't been to Essex, but this book does feel incredibly British, and that was rather nice. Everyone has their shit they're going through, and the sanctuary itself is going through some troubles, and by supporting each other, they all end up feeling more contended.

I really loved Mim's character arc, and Luke and Paul's relationship was adorable (although I feel it stole the spotlight a bit from other characters). The storyline of Sasha and Luke - her son, adopted out because she gave birth at 16 - was tough at times but ultimately so, so lovely. Sasha meeting Luke's adopted parents, in particular, was adorable, and I think the way that family is presented in this book overall is really nice.

That said, I felt Sasha's story seemed a little unfinished. Maybe this is because the book does try very hard to avoid the fact that Sasha's "summer romance" was absolutely a case of her getting nonced. She even responds like a traumatised person when she first sees Luke - the spitting image of his dad - and is reluctant to discuss any of it at all. Of course, it can be argued that it's because pregnancy and giving up your child at 16 is going to be traumatic in itself, but she really is written like somebody in denial of the fact that she was groomed by an adult. It really took from a lot of the cuter aspects of this book and could have been so easily avoided - it'd make sense for an 18, 19, even 20 year old to give up her child for adoption after a summer fling, or the guy in question could have been in his mid- or late teens and it'd have changed basically nothing. As is, it added a dark aspect to the story that was a bit uncomfortable.

It seems like a lot of people in reviews really didn't like Anna, but I found her endearing despite her frustrating ability to make the wrong decisions all the time forever. She's like me if I always listened to my anxiety brain's awful ideas.

The cats could have featured more, in my opinion, but that's because I really like cats. But that's the audience this book's going for, so why not? More cats! I did love their segments, and just the idea of Fluffy Paws' eventual incarnation of a little cottage full of cats is so wonderful. What a dream.

A little more development of the storylines and characters would have been good, but overall, this story was fine. It was nothing ground-breaking, but parts of it did make me smile and that's worth something, isn't it?

Still trying to figure out how I felt about this one. I liked the story and the characters for the most part, but something just didn't quite come together for me. I thought the dialogue between characters was odd at times, like the conversational flow was weird or something. Maybe it seemed off because I'm American and, to a Brit, the way the characters spoke to each other would seem totally normal. Sasha seems almost aggressively prickly at times, and it just seemed weird that everyone kind of went along with it and no one really gave her any attitude back. I mean, she got pregnant on vacation with she was 16 and gave the baby away and that was a big, traumatic life event, but I feel like that wasn't enough of a "traumatic past" to explain why she turned into such an old-before-her-time grumpy loaner. I did like all the other characters, though. But I will say, Anna's chapters super stressed me out!

A big recommendation I have would be to change the chapter sub-heading to tell us the period of time that each chapter is covering (i.e., August -- December) rather than the location within Essex. Those location details did not seem to add anything to the plot, but I did feel like I was missing some chronological context sometimes and that would have been easily fixed with more timeline details. Anna's story, in particular, seemed to be much farther ahead in time when the characters were talking about her in Mim's or Sasha's chapters, but then we'd go back to an Anna chapter and she'd be describing a "present" situation that we'd already learned had happened months ago, according to earlier chapters. But it wasn't ever spelled out, and the apparent shifts back and forth in time didn't have any meaning for the plot, so it was pretty confusing.

Something else that seemed odd, but -- again -- could have been weird to me just because I'm American, was Anna's money situation. [Spoilers ahead]....

Quite a disappointing read. Had some potential with a wide range of characters and potential storylines, that for the most part just didn’t go anywhere.

A couple of the characters seemed pretty unlikeable (< spoiler > Sasha is the obvious one, being pretty prickly all the way through, but also Paul seemed to actively dislike Luke because he was so infuriatingly perfect or copied him without seeming to have any opinions himself, so other than physical attraction I’m not sure why they ended up together < / spoilers > and there were plot points that didn’t make sense or weren’t explained (

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book. I have chosen to write this honest review voluntarily and it reflects my personal opinion.
I enjoyed 'The lonely hearts lido club' by this author despite the inconsistencies and mistakes. However, this story also had some issues with timings and mistakes / typos which should have been corrected. The characters were clearly defined but I thought descriptions of their behaviours, particularly Anna with her anxiety and hoarding, were repeated so much so that it became boring, as did Luke and Paul's adoration of each other with many descriptions of their bodies. Both Sasha and Anna denied facts to themselves - 'didn't have children' and 'what she thought was innocent mistake' - which I found bizarre. There was a clear lack of credibility relating to the running of the cat sanctuary, and the ease of selling a house. I also thought there was a lack of credibility in some of the characters' behaviours - Fiona meets Mim for the first time then starts criticising her mother-in-law (Mim's sister-in-law) and Paul complains continuously about doing computer work instead of practical things with the cats at the sanctuary but carried on turning up even though he's a volunteer. There was a lot of repetition, including cats 'making bread with their paws' - I thought the sanctuary might as well become a bakery.
I thought that this book was nowhere near as good as the first I read, disappointing.

*** Thank you to Charlie Lyndhurst, Hera Books and Netgalley for the ARC ***
Release Date: June 08, 2023

This is the story of how five strangers come together for the sake of cats. Sasha, who runs the cat sanctuary is a closed off person who will do anything to protect the cats in her care – despite the looming knowledge of the building being sold. Luke is having a quarter-mid life crisis and is desperate to find his biological parents. Paul is dealing with a heart break and feeling unloved. Anna is dealing with grief of her parents and struggles to move past it. Mim, perhaps the most outwardly happy person, harbors much sadness inside. Together, these five deal with their issues in their own ways, some are healthier than others.
I am a cat person, I felt I related to Sasha. I am a closed off person, trying to handle too much of my own problems on my own. I would do anything for my pets, no matter the consequences. Luke and Anna I felt were the two characters that annoyed me the most – I understand why Luke did what he did, but at the same time, I felt like he was causing more unnecessary emotional turmoil than good. Anna just made stupid mistakes and kept digging a whole. I felt that I knew what would happen in the end, but reading it while it happened really started to irk me.
3.5 stars, I definitely felt myself in the book while reading.

What a gorgeous read.

Let's start with the felines, and wow there are a lot of cats in this, for its a rather huge and busy cat sanctuary. And all the humans are volunteering there or working there, for their own reasons. They all have secrets of their own, and gain so much from their time with the cats.

I really enjoyed getting to know Sasha, Anna, Mim, Paul and Luke and their various dynamics. And the fight to keep the rescue centre in business after they are being kicked out of their current location is innovative.

I especially found I was drawn to Anna, who initially drove me bonkers with her overthinking every single thing, but once I realised just how and why she is like she is, I felt rather protective and just wanted good things to happen for her. And I also really liked Luke, who although going about things initially not in the best way, hangs around and slowly forms bonds with everyone, in a really heartwarming way.

This was the first book I'd read from Charlie Lyndhurst and I'm sure it won't be the last. I was drawn in by the promise of cats, but stayed for the complex characters and their changing relationships. It was a very
entertaining story to read.

Thank you to Hera and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

Princess Fuzzypants here: . It took me a bit longer to get into the book as I kept waiting for the kitty characters to make their appearance. But slowly I became ‘enmeshed in the lives of the humans who volunteered and took care of the cats until they could find their forever homes.

There is Luke who is searching for his birth mother who happens to be Sasha, who run the charity. He is determined to find out who he is in spite of the objections of his adopted parents and the avoidance of Sasha. What he finds is so much more. All the characters have been damaged. They all do not realize it but they need the support and friendship of the people with whom they share the journey of saving the rescue and finding a new home for the cats.
There is Paul and Anna and Mim who turns out to be the catalyst for many of the good things that happen. They find love and purpose caring deeply about the cats.

Anyone who has ever volunteered at a shelter will understand the human/feline connection. The kitties and the humans who look after them are very special. Four purrs and two paws up.

I love how cute this book is . It's a lovely relaxing read. The dynamics of Luke and his adoptive parents are so heartfelt and real.Luke is looking for Sasha, the charity's director, who also happens to be his birth mother. Despite his adopted parents' reservations and Sasha's avoidance, he is committed to learning who he is. He discovers so much more. Every character has been hurt. They all are unaware of it, but they all require the friendship and support of the people they travel the road of saving the rescue and finding new homes for the cats with.
Paul, Anna, and Mim are present, and Mim ends up being the driving force behind a lot of the positive events. They develop a profound affection and purpose for the cats., this is not the book for you if you're seeking for cute cat stories. This article is about the staff members of a nonprofit cat sanctuary. They all dealt with concerns like loneliness, mental health, regrets, fear, etc. in their own unique ways. In that regard, it was wonderful to witness how supportive and loving they were of one another.

As a cat lover the book cover and title, “The Cosy Cat Society” caught my attention straight away!

It is a lovely story about the volunteers of a cat sanctuary who come together to help the sanctuary find a new home as its current premises are being sold. Each of the staff and volunteers also have their own personal issues to deal with from finding their birth Mum to relationship issues and grief over lost parents to name a few.

There is quite a lot going on in this book and at times I felt we weren’t able to get as deep as I’d of liked in to some of the storylines before we jumped back to one of the other ones. But overall I really enjoyed this book and would read more from this author. The characters coming together for a good cause (saving the cat sanctuary) and their friendships despite their own personal struggles were really lovely to read about. Also felt you got a little insight into cat rescue homes too.

I’d say my rating is probably around 3.5 stars

I love cats so I was so excited to read this, but even though cats are mentioned in the title, they were definitely not the stars of this novel.
Sasha runs a cat rescue called Fluffy Paws outside of London and has 3 volunteers helping to take care of the cats. A young man shows up out of the blue and ends up volunteering as well. All of the volunteers, plus Sasha, have their own personal problems ranging from mental health issues to relationship issues to infertility. Being at the rescue helps each of them in one way or another.
There was a huge juxtaposition because while the writing itself was juvenile, the issues of each character were not. I found the characters to be stress inducing, probably because I’m going through my own stressful situation right now.
I found the resolutions to be vapid and the entire book read like it was thrown together over a weekend.
I seriously had my doubts with this one but picked it anyway because I was hoping for a cat filled heart warming book, but unfortunately all I got was a chest filled of stress.
