Texas Ranger (and part Native American) Rachel Blackwood, fierce and resilient, must cross the harsh Texas landscape while tracking the most notorious serial killers. Along the Rio Grande in a quiet border town, a string of murders is initially dismissed as part of a smuggling operation. Yet as Rachel delves deeper into the investigation, she begins to unravel a sinister web of secrets that strikes too close to home—leading her to the very ranch where she grew up.

I really struggled with this book. The premise was weak, the story dragged, and the fragments to connect the dots between racism, the Texas Rangers, the Reservation cops, a cartel, prostitution, a snoot overbearing Aunt, and a looney tunes crazy sniper were less than thrilling.
This rating is for the Audio version of the book. Reading was done by an AI which was extremely lackluster and devoid of any realism.
Rachel is back to the Indian reservation to help find who is killing inside their limits and although she has been asked to help, her presence is not accepted. She'll pursue lots of leads till she finds the one that will lead her to the culprit and she'll also see herself tangled in family affairs which she keeps on digging into to reach the truth regarding her parents' disappearance. I like Rachel's character but in Not This Road I did not find it a pleasing one, her self-confidence is limitless, and she is insanely fearless as if she were a superwoman. Despite previous comments, it has a good plot and is entertaining. I thank Ms. Pierce for this ARC.
Part Native American, Ranger Rachel Blackwood is considered a traitor to her heritage by some - including the Sheriff's son Kai and others she has to work with at times. She and her partner Ethan Morgan must overcome prejudice and find a merciless sniper, who's seemingly targeting random victims, before more die needlessly. What links the targets and why is the killer building up to a climax on a particular day? Find out in Blake Pierce's riveting 4th Rachel Blackwood Mystery novel - it's absolutely unputdownable!
After Rachel hears her parents were part of a billion dollar heist & disappeared with the money she talks to someone involved . He tells her the cartel is involved. She & Ethan are called to help with some murders on the reservation. A sniper is killing natives. A really good book! The ending is great!
A sniper is picking off women, what is the connection among them? Rachel Blackwood and her partner, Ethan go to the reservation to investigate. Very good.
