“You’re cute when you’re flustered, love.” “I’m pretty much always flustered around you these days,” she admitted with a sigh, though it had no weight behind it. “That explains why I’m so distracted all the time.”I love when I start a romance and instantly get into the main characters and the attraction and sense of belonging they have for and with each other. Maggie and Cal's conversations, actions, and thoughts convinced me they would make their relationship work, regardless of anything that came their way. And I'm not the only one because so many of the secondary characters were so invested in their relationship because of how much they were rooting for them.
"You love me?" she whispered shakily,I will always cheer for a girl who gets a real man (not a pathetic one with a fragile ego) after breaking up with a loser, and that's exactly what Maggie got; a man who gives her all the love and reassurance she needs. And, just so you know, both the FMC and MMC are bisexual, and as a fellow bi girlie I will always be delighted by pairings where they're both bi, so this was great.
"Quite desperately"
"(...) like waking up in the middle of the night, and just watching him breathe for a while, because she couldn't believe he'd trusted her with his heart."I appreciated all their discussions about their power imbalance (since she's both his assistant and younger than him), and, as heartbreaking as it was, the amount of time they would have together as a couple. I'm gonna get all sad here but one of the reasons I wouldn't date someone way older than me is that I would hate to lose them a bunch of years earlier than I would if I dated someone my age. And yes, I know that our days are not guaranteed but I'm assuming a natural death by old age. I don't know if anyone else thinks about this too (well, apparently yes, based on this book) whenever they think about age gaps, but I do (as you can tell, I've never been relaxed a day in my life), and it was interesting to see them touch on it.
"They didn't need sixty years, because time stood still when they were together."↪ ★★★★½ stars
