GrimFaerie Chronicles #4

Grim Reminders: Book 4 of the GrimFaerie Chronicles

Rate this book
They may fight on the side of the Light, but GrimFaeries do their best work in the dark.

Silent, unseen, and deadly, they walk among us, protecting the innocent from things that go bump in the night. As a battle-hardened Fae assassin, Kane the Grim has seen his share of demons and monsters over the centuries, and he’s left a trail of bloody victories in his wake. Two humans join Kane in his otherwise lonely calling. Ariana, the last in a long family line of witches, is always ready to throw down whether it’s a magickal duel, a gunfight, or good old ass-kicking that’s required. Joining them is Detective Avery Lynne, a tough, smart cop who keeps a close eye on them both while she learns the ways of her own hidden magick—and Kane has his eyes on her, too.

When a body turns up completely drained of blood, nobody wants to believe in vampires, but Kane knows better. As the deaths pile up, Kane, Ariana, and Avery go on the hunt, but the undead aren’t the only things skulking around in the shadows. To make matters worse, an old flame of Kane’s turns up out of the blue, digging up feelings that might be better left buried. Can Kane and his friends survive demons, vampires, and the hell-born to make the streets of West Houston safe again or will the undead spread death and destruction at every turn?

Having read the previous books and enjoying them, I decided to finally purchase this installment and although for the most part I liked it, there were certain aspects of it that I didn't like ****Possible Spoilers***** I liked the character Kane from book one and the idea of a grim fairy really struck a chord with me however I felt that the character would have been better left as the singular fairy warrior he was in previous books instead of the love sick character he became in this book. I really wish that the author would have kept romance out of the book as every story doesn't need it. Kane is supposed to be a centuries old warrior not a love sick puppy his constant moaning over his attraction to the female cop got very nerve wrecking and how many times do I have to read how gorgeous her gray/green eyes are. Also it was not disclosed what the hell she was supposed to be until the end of the book so for the majority of it the reader is left wondering what the hell is she?? Her constant I'm a cop I obey the law when dealing with creatures the law couldn't handle got annoying as hell and the new powers that manifested themselves whenever she was in a bind also got annoying. How many damn superpowers does she have and not know about?? The second female lead was a little less annoying but I couldn't figure out how she kept getting her a** kicked as I recall reading in the previous books that she was supposed to be a skilled fighter also how do you get beat down in one location and end up unconscious in another?? II also didn't get how Kane always ended up gravely hurt whenever he fought, he's supposed to be a centuries old assassin warrior afterall. I did like the female grim fairy she was a interesting character. Finally the description is not exactly what the book is about, if you think you're going to be reading about our fairy warrior fighting blood suckers think again although he does fight a few vampires that is not what the story is really about but I liked that it ended with hints of a possible book five.

As a battle worn Fae assassin Kane is battle weary and battle ready for what is to come next. He has two battle ready wing men or this case wing women . Avery a mortal with a touch of fairie in her to use magic on those they capture and Ariana the last of a long line of witches . They are a on the hunt when a body shows up drained of all their blood. As the bodies start to pile up the three of them are on the hunt and to make matters worse an old flame of Kane's shows up just to throw some more flames to the fire. Will they be able keep streets of West Houston safe or will the undead take over city.
Kane and ladies are back and better than ever. Kane is a Fae assassin and has killed many a demons . He is dangerous but lovable man who will kill those that have done wrong. Avery is a mortal woman who is strong willed and wants help keep the streets clean of all things. She is attracted to Kane but they never act on it. Ariana is the last in the line of witches . She is strong with magic. Both women are strong willed and sassy. They get as they get and they and they are so fun to read. They are such fun characters and they are very complex .
This is the fourth book in the series and it is such a fun read . The author has a fun sense when it comes to his writing. The characters are well written and you will love them. The story is faced pace and you can't put the book down . I read this book in the evening and truly enjoyed it . I really enjoyed it and want to go back and read the ones I missed. So if you want a fun read for your fall reading list.

Kane, a Fae assassin, has been fighting demons and other evils for centuries. He has recently teamed up with two humans, Ariana, a witch from a long bloodline, and Avery, a detective with special magick. When Avery's case includes a body drained of blood, the only culprit it could be is a vampire. Vampires don't exist. Right? Kane knows they do. Unfortunately, more bodies start appearing. The three of them join together to find the main villain and hopefully save more innocent lives in the process. When Kane's old flame shows up, it complicates things. Can they defeat the evil? What's his ex up to?

This is my first book by this author and the only negative I have is not knowing this series existed before I read this book LOL. Love love love the strong female characters. Oh and Kane is pretty lovable too ha ha. I think the idea behind what the group does to the bad supernatural is so cool and such a refreshing take. It is a very different approach than the typical book in this genre. I eagerly look forward to reading more books by this author.

Maintaining the balance of our world.

It's nice to believe there is a system in place keeping evil from overwhelming good. So often what we see around us shows otherwise. Yet we remain hopeful. Someone out there is strong enough and smart enough to change the trend. Supernatural forces require supernatural opposition.
