"Dear Gang": Letters home from a Vietnam Combat Photographer

Rate this book
"Dear Gang" is a collection of letters written by Combat Photographer Gary Vogt during his year in Vietnam, June 24 1967 thru June 18 1968, when he was attached to the much honored 1st Cav. He describes going on search and destroy missions where scores of the enemy were killed then returning to his home base where the living conditions were primitive at best and a cold glass of real milk is a dreamed of luxury. "Dear Gang" is a soldier's eye view of America's most divisive conflict since the Civil War. His book has been favorably compared to the Civil War soldier's letters home so poignantly portrayed in Ken Burn's documentaries. The book includes many photos taken by Gary, both of the terrible brutality of war and the day to day lives and faces of both the Americans and Vietnamese he encountered in his role as Combat Photographer. His descriptions and photos will leave lasting impressions the reader will not soon forget.
