A boy is always called to adventure, especially when it means saving both humanity and a special girl.
Thirty-Eight years after a virus killed almost everyone on earth, Joshua Tanner is desperate to save what remains of civilization. Knowledge is disappearing and the usable remnants of the original’s world are getting harder and harder to find. Oh, and there is a girl on the other side of the continent in need of rescue.
Traveling across a post apocalyptic continent Joshua must face natural disaster and desperate humans to save a community and take the first steps to saving the rest of humanity.
This author is a good writer. He created some very sensitive scenes about a blind girl. In contrast, he also can create raw power and rage when needed. The characters are likable as is the story. There are some issues, though, that prevent him from being a great writer. He insists on using not fully mature teens as his main characters. In this story the male’s indecision and hesitation three times in permanently eliminating a threat caused needless death and caused more problems. The female’s immaturity shows up in her emotional issues and not saying what she means. It creates soap opera drama. As much as I like this author’s general work, I hate that it comes along with unnecessary juvenile soap drama.
A brilliant book and an absolute joy to read. There is a whole mixture of emotions, love, laughter and sadness I can't recommend this series enough. Thank you, Nate Johnson.
This was fun, but not the usual EMP-style, despite being advertised as an EMP read. It is actually a romance novel with a side of ‘EMP’, if that makes sense. Basically the world ended a few decades ago, and people have adapted as best they can. There’s a small bit of drama as a result of the whole ‘lawless’ vibe but, this book is basically dedicated to the romance, complete with some popular tropes:
Possessive ‘touch her and d!3’ male lead. Forced proximity. Misunderstanding trope. Miscommunication trope. Young adult (male lead is 17). Disability representation (female lead is vision-impaired).
That said, it was a fun read, most of the time. The pace could be a bit faster, but it worked. If you read the rest of the books in this series and were left wanting more, you’ll probably love this.
Overall: 3 stars.
Audio: Overall sound quality has some issues, it’s not perfectly crisp and clear, but sounds okay. The narrator did a great job, except for the way he portrayed the male lead. (He’s described as a 17-year-old kid and the voice used for him didn’t really fit.)
Each book gets better! The editing and grammar are improving which was the biggest drawback with earlier books. The plot included unexpected twists. The adventure and even a lil bit of romance were enjoyable with all the real struggles of being human! I am also impressed with the way this author thinks of new ways for humanity to survive and thrive after all the world was killed by a deadly virus. Good job Nate Johnson!
Nate Johnson is a fantastic author. Each book in THE END OF EVERYTHING series was wonderful, refreshing and kept me reading each book in a day. I, however, will give a rating of 1 to this publishing company and feel they do a disservice to this author. The editorial and grammatical errors need to be corrected.
10/10 Please do yourself a favor and read this series in its entirety. You won’t be disappointed. Real, believable and flawed characters who are carried along the most well developed story lines that I’ve read in quite a while. Congratulations to the author.
Still a YA series, but a bit more of a twist. My one real criticism is that we were only given the briefest glimpses of the world reverting to a more natural state. Still, it was more than most of these post-apocalyptic series provide.
Loved all the stories of people coming together to make a community in Portland. Loved them all and all the great dogs in each. Love the kids and grandkids’s stories. Took me a few days of just reading to get through these. Such easy, rewarding stories.
I loved every book in this series. The storytelling was perfect. The characters seemingly came to life on the pages. I felt as though I were on the sidelines watching everything unfold before my eyes. Just awesome!
Nate Johnson did an excellent job with these seven novels! He did an outstanding job in character development, both for people and dogs. One negative criticism: the books need to be proofread to correct some typos. Highly recommended novels!
Although this was a YA read I really enjoyed it. I loved the characters and their transition into adulthood. I loved their determination in surviving difficult situations. I recommend this author and this series
The underlying thesis for this Story is sound. The only concern is whether society could be reformed, without the unequal balance between the haves and the have nots.
I liked how all the characters were throughout this series. More.about the peel overcoming and starting.over.instead of so much gloom at the end of the world
