Annie Bishop is excited about Bishop’s Landing fall festival where she has decided to add a pie from her bakery to the contest. She entered the darkened tent and placed her pie on the table, but she saw something on the ground at the side of the tent. She recognized the black fur coat worn by celebrity chef and pie contest judge Ursula Von Klein – and saw the silver handle of the ceremonial cake knife provided for the competition sticking out of her back!
As Sheriff Jake Hail starts the investigation, he calls the Mayor while they roped off the town square and Doc James examined the body. The more they investigate, the longer the suspect list gets! When Jake arrests Walter Larson, Annie thinks he has made a mistake. So she gathers her “team” to see what they can find out. With Annie, her dog Cookie, her best friend Casey, and her baking assistant Maggie, they begin their own search for the killer. Will they find the real murderer? Will they clear Walter’s name?
Annie Bishop of Bishop’s Landing has a newly opened Bakery . She is excited for the annual Fall Festival as she is hoping to win the annual Pie contest , pompous Celebrity chef Ursula Von Klein is one of the judges , she’s nice as pie ( excuse the pun) when the camera is rolling , but when the camera stops rolling , she’s as sour as a lemon tart . Of course when the Baker goes to drop off her prize pie , she finds a dead body… Cue an inept Sheriff who in Annie’s opinion has an innocent person incarcerated . So Annie , her best friend Casey , her assistant baker Maggie and not forgetting her trusted sidekick her golden retriever Cookie seek the truth , find the killer and seek justice to save their town’s reputation. Brilliant, fun cosy mystery with superb quirky , fun characters that are familiar and relatable, a great plot, sublime easy flowing writing with apt descriptions and a hug of a compelling story.
A very well written cozey mystery with a slice of murder. Who new baking pies could be so dangerous. There's a great cast of familiar characters from a small northern town in the USA where they take pie making very seriously every fall with a weekend festival giving prizes out. But of course this wouldn't be a mystery without tragedy befalling and between the familiar and the new that's just what you'll find making your heart feel light until murder brings intrigue with the hope of finding who could of done such a thing. With a plot giving small clues you'll race to figure out what happened and why before while Annie the town baking is to enjoying getting to know the characters and town better. I know I did and if you pay close attention you just might catch the clues and figure out who before the end of this wonderful cozey mystery. Acquire " Pies, Paws and Peril " (A Bishop's Landing Cozy Mystery #1)for an intriguing and enjoyable experience. Kat
Oh my goodness, talk about the perfect cozy mystery with a super cute relationship developing! It’s perfection! I’d guessed some components of the mystery and came up with the killer a little before Annie. I loved how Jake went along with her plan to catch the killer in action after setting somewhat of a trap.
Jake and Annie are now one of my favorite cozy mystery couples, and Casey’s definitely a fave bestie character. I absolutely can’t wait for the next book. I read both this and the first one somewhat close together and thought I should caution readers to definitely read the first book, Cookies and Crime, before this one. There was some name dropping in this book that might tend to give away something if you haven’t read the first book.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book via BookSprout, and my opinions are my own.
Killer Pie Contest! This book was a fun read that follows Annie’s adventures back home in Bishop’s Landing as she continues to run her newly opened bakery. The fall festival is happening and she has decided to enter the annual pie contest. Unfortunately when she drops off her pie, she notices a dead body! As the sheriff investigates, Annie is convinced that the suspect he has in custody is innocent and follows her own instincts to uncover the truth. I enjoyed the mystery and seeing Annie interact with her friends and family. I also loved seeing her and Jake become closer.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was a really enjoyable read! The plot revolves around a Fall Festival, which includes a pie baking contest. Annie, owner of the town bakery, is entering the contest, but another lady is the perpetual winner with the best pie. The whole affair is complicated by the murder of Ursula, a cookbook author who’s one of the judges.
It’s all a fun book, and Annie is very curious and suspicious and she’s doing sleuthing on her own, in addition to Jake, the town sheriff. I recommend this really engaging story!
I received my gifted copy from BookFunnel. My review is given voluntarily.
Annie who owns a bakery is putting a pie in the pie contest at the towns festival. As she is putting her pie in the contest tent she finds a celebrity judge, who is a horrible person, with a knife in her back. No one like the judge so it is hard to narrow down who would want her dead
Jake her policeman friend keeps telling her to Stay out of his investigation. We all know how much she listened to him.
Very suspenseful book that kept you guessing right up to the end. Really enjoyed the read.
Awww , what an awesome book! I grew up in a small town in Wes Texas! Just like this little town in this story! The people weren't as closely knit as the one in the book but we were a well rounded group of farmers and retailers that made sure our town stood out! It's a shame that the ending of this book becomes defamed! However, I really love the warmth and happiness that ruled in this little town!!
If you have any memories of fall during your childhood, this book will take you back. With ,of course, a murder to add to your thoughts. Twisty motives and thoughts filled with motives for murder, but could that person really have done it? I will not cut the cake. You must read this compelling mystery for yourselves and fall in love with Bishop's Landing and the people that call it home.
Poor Annie finds a body when she really just wants to enter a pie contest and enjoy the festivities in Bishop's Landing. Lucky for the town Annie and Jake sort out the clues that lead to a satisfying conclusion (no cliffhangers!). This book will make you hungry for sweet treats. I am looking forward to the next installment in this series.

This is the second book in a series and I enjoyed reading it. The main character is endearing and makes you want to know more about her. There are a lot of interesting characters, great descriptions and of course one character who is totally unlikable. There were a lot of twists and turns and I was a little surprised at who the murderer was. The story made me want a piece of pumpkin pie! I received an ARC copy of the book and this is my voluntary review.
This was a really fun read. I love the characters and their interactions. I’m looking forward to following the budding romance between Annie and Jake. Annie is a very likable and intuitive character. It’s fun watching her figure out whodunnit. And her reasoning makes sense. I received this book as a free download from the author and am leaving this review voluntarily.

Book 2 of the Bishop’a Landing Mystery Series is so much better than the first. The familiar cast of characters are present, with their personalities more fleshed out. The writing is much more rounded and the plotting filled with twists and turns and red herrings. This is a sweet quick very enjoyable read.
The main character makes you want to know more of her. The characters that accompany are also a wholesome lot. The ending was a thought that was obvious and not too much of an actual investigation going on but yet still a cozy mystery m.
A pie contest jury member dies. Annie and her friends + dog Cookie investigate. This is a fun read with nice characters. It's easy to read, the story is nice. I can recommend this book. I received an ARC of this book and I'm leaving a voluntary and honest review.
T to die for, our cozy little town is fighting over guess what, pie. Yes I said die for , Of course our cast of characters are in the story with a few more added from out of town......... Is it a towinie or Tourist.
A fun and entertaining cozy mystery. I love the clever plot with all the twists and turns, as well as the main character, Annie and her fabulous dog, Cookie. A book to enjoy!
I read this book as part of an advance reader team and am providing my honest opinion.
I was an ARC reader and given this book free for my honest review. This is an interesting mystery with a surprise ending. I liked the characters, the setting, and a not too easy to solve mystery.
Well-written and many possible suspects for the murder of a very nasty woman! Who wouldn't want to kill her was more the question, than who did! Well done!
The second book in the Bishop's Landing mystery series is a winner. Annie has taken over the local bakery from her Aunt Mildred and has decided to enter one of her pies in the town's Fall Festival Pie Baking Contest. Maple, another local baker, has won the contest for years but she has promised if she wins this year she will give her winning recipe to the runner-up.
A famous celebrity chef, Ursula von Klein, has come to her home town to be one of three to judge the pie contest. She is lovely on her TV cooking show but has a nasty side she takes out on her nephew, assistant and anyone else who doesn't immediately live up to her high standards or do her bidding. When Annie discovers Ursula's body in the pie tent, stabbed in the back with the ceremonial cake knife, she knows there are many potential suspects and feels she must help Sherrif Jake unmask the murderer and thereby save the fall festival.
The story flowed smoothly with Annie and her two friends Casey and Maggie finding clue after clue. I enjoyed the book and the various characters, and look forward to their further exploits as th mystery series unfolds.
