Interesting & unexpected twists, but Violette has become a passenger in her own story.

My first and major complaint about this story was that there was far too much head hopping. There were times, in fact, when I did not know whose head I was in. That seemed to be a problem mostly in the middle, but had straightened out by the ending.

Yulan became a dark hero in this volume. Another character proved to be a psychotic villain (no spoilers). There were certainly plenty of twists. The problem for me was that I was here for Violette, and she had become a princess in distress, sitting back to let other people save her. In addition, the only character who made reasonable growth was Maryjune, but she is treated as a villain, even though she is a victim.

It was an angsty volume, and I didn’t find it enjoyable, probably because Yulan annoyed me. He’s not saving Violette. He’s indulging his need for revenge. He made decisions for her, and infantilized her. Honestly, aside from the lack of physical abuse, I saw him as controlling as Violette’s father and mother.

What I did enjoy *immensely* was the Afterword. Soratani pulled back the curtains and explained her motivations for certain scenes, which I found very informative. Her cute enthusiasm shined brightly in those pages and she almost—almost—swayed me to like the story more, but my concerns could not be washed away. ★★★½

I am so happy for Yulan! He got to be brutal as all get out!! All with a smirk on his face! You go boy.😂 Honestly, I think this outcome is better for Maryjune too. She was too ridiculously naive and needed a dose of reality. Maybe she will mature and toughen a bit because she seems like she could become prey to a guy like Gia too easily. Gia is terrifying but a slouch compared to Bellerose and Elfa. What a couple of psychos! 😂 Auld sure is reaping what he sowed.
I am glad the prince went in a different direction and steered clear of Auld's daughters. They are drama he doesn't need. Plus, it feels like he was only into Maryjune in the first timeline because she was so good at the "damsel in distress" bit.

"Hurt people hurt people"

While reading this volume I found myself riding a rollercoaster of emotions. I'm glad to say that Violet's life has made a turn towards the better and some justice is beginning to happen, but in the end I really just keep hearing my favorite quite from Dylan Marron, "hurt people hurt people". Truer words were never spoken.

No reconciliation

Dark, twisted stories with yandere male leads are my chocolate in book form. Vio has suffered so much at the hands of this little "family" that you cannot help but smile at this volume. Finally, she gets to breathe and love, even if it is twisted dependence. Yulian came through in a major way. Love this story so much! I also feel that this volume is better written, with more cohesion instead of the feeling that thoughts were strung together on the page.

It's GREAT to see Violette's family FINALLY get yelled at. Really liked seeing Maryjune finally be TOLD OUTRIGHT that she's selfish and that it's...uhhh, actually REALLY AWFUL that she wants Violette in the Vahan Household even though BEING there means Violette is going to be emotionally (AND sexually AND physically!!) abused. Even better was Auld realizing that Elfa is JUST as crazy as Bellerose was.

...What I don't especially like is...Yulan. I love the childhood friends who saved each other angle...I just wish that he was a better person. I do like how protective of Violette he is, but...it's an obsession, obviously. And Violette is just so desperate for love, for someone with some sort of appreciable strength to be on her side, that she welcomes it.

Interested to see what Book 5 could possibly cover after all this drama has finally come to a head. X'D

Great!

I absolutely love this book so much! This series is great and quite unexpected unlike the other reincarnation stories. I can’t wait for the next novel!

I beg of you, Lord Yulan, please let her cry. Let her scream in pain and acknowledge her misery. Let her vent her resentment of those she despises most. Let her show you her scarred heart at its most vulnerable. Teach her that she’s allowed to be sad when she’s hurt. After she’s gotten every drop out of her system…please…make her smile. Wonderfully said Marin 😭

Soooooo….. I completely skipped volume 2 and 3, yet I feel like I didn’t miss anything. I just wanted to see Violet break and (hopefully) go ape on her “family”. If you read this volume, you know what happens, so I won’t spoil anything. Because of the events in this volume, I’m not gonna read any more books in this series.

Actually, I will only read a new book if we get some type of THING to happen to her horrible family. I don’t care what but I want her father to suffer! (╯°益°)╯彡┻━┻

This was so much better (and more satisfying in a sadistic way) than volume 2 and 3. Plot progression and a cool beginning and ending. There were a few minor meanderings and Gia is still pointless as a character, but otherwise great!

This one got pretty intense and I was living for all of it. Finally some resolutions to plot threads and a very nice little stab to the heart of one particularly reviled character. Honestly, this could’ve been the last book and I would’ve been happy.
