so i'm not a fan of this type of serialization where we bounce around to focus on different characters book to book; i would like the focus to stay on the main pair. however,

the writing and translation in this series have just been stellar. it's impossible to get bored. i haven't read anything quite like it. the effort put in comes across clearly.

the focus of this volume, ajisai, is a character i already loved so i was going to enjoy it either way in spite of my preferences but this went well beyond my expectations. there's a payoff to three books worth of setup that had me losing my mind. can't wait for the next one

can't get enough of renako going "i'm not gay though" while ogling or feeling up every woman that crosses her path

spoiler for the entire book:

I’m straight up surprised at how much I’m enjoying the heck out of this series, especially when I was so on-the-fence at the end of vol 1!

Conversations our characters had on the nature of love, and where the borders lie between different ‘types’ of love were awesome, and I was really surprised to see how in-depth they went on it… and then I remembered that the author of this one (Teren Mikami) also wrote “If you could see love” — another excellent yuri story that went into heavy exploration on the nature of different types of ‘love.’ It was *awesome* to see those themes so maturely continued here!

Something I noticed in the last volume that was even more prominent here— sometimes characters would do ‘odd’ stuff, and you’d be temped to just mark it down as ‘anime characters doing anime stuff that advances the plot— don’t dwell on it’ — but then the author would later revisit these moments with what feels like a realistic examination of the flaws that lead our characters to do the goofy stuff they do — which I *loved*.

At one spot, I remember thinking in the back of my head that a particular characters’ behavior had changed a bit in a subtle way. Silly me, I thought it was just a plot contrivance — only to be blown away when it turned out there was a perfectly robust explanation for it, and that the author had some ‘off screen’ actions that explain it, going all the way back to volume 1.

This has easily been my favorite volume yet!

Vol 2 didn’t end on a cliff hanger, so I hesitantly preordered this volume largely based on the level of narrative improvements between vol 1 and 2… and after how much I enjoyed this one, I am 100% for sure gonna pre-order the next volume as soon as it gets a release date!

HERE FOR THE AJISAI ARC!

I always thought the Ajisai running away plot point was really random, but they did a good job with easing into it in the LN. I read the corresponding manga chapters before this LN and I’m glad I did because it gave me some nice beautiful scenes in my head to picture.

I’m so glad to finally reach the point beyond where the current manga is. There are a few more LNs out right now, but I’m going SO quickly that I might need to start waiting!

Okay.
Okay.
Here we go.
This volume is in my mind where the series really comes into its own. It's also the first volume to show perspectives outside of Renako's which really helps to get you to fall in love with these characters if you haven't already.
This volume is the Ajisai arc, and while I one time believed in Ajisai supremacy, future volumes will, shall we say, change that quite a bit.
This is also one of the first times we see a little bit more of Mai's backstory, which helps understand where she's coming from (this will be massively expanded on in the next volume but it starts here)
The story and the not-quite romance in this volume is as good as it's been in this series. Renako just gets more and more relateable to me with each volume, I can really put myself in her shoes to an almost scary degree.
I liked the series before, this is where I fell in love with it.

it's nice to see a publisher taking more risks with the works they choose to put out
