This is the last of the books by President Packer that I set myself to read and it too taught my heart and head. In reviewing his other books of sermons and articles, I mentioned his superior use of metaphor to explain and explore difficult concepts. I love his unexpected touches of humor and his personal stories. I admire his courage to tackle controversial topics, his sharing of fascinating historical details and really apropos and fascinating gems of quotes. I love this one, for instance, from Brigham Young, "We never begin to build a temple without the bells of hell beginning to ring." In this book, I noticed one other great skill: his use of scriptures in such a way that I understand them better. He highlights passages and ideas that I have previously skimmed over but now I see in a different light, and I am struck with a new idea that takes my breath away.

I actually started reading this book a year or so ago, but it got lost under a pile of books and got forgotten. It is a collection of talks by Boyd K. Packer, so nothing that can't be put down and picked back up again. Some of the messages I connected with more so than others. There were thoughts shared that I did appreciate and felt inspired by. All had a focus on faith. This is not the sort of book I can give a star rating on. I enjoy learning and increasing my spiritual knowledge, but that does not mean I "really like" or find the books "amazing". Some I do, while others may be harder for me to get into, but I still appreciate what I learn from them.

Where is your power?

How important ir is for a son to have a proper relationship w his father and mother and to know that his father and his mother live together in love. A peo0er parental pattern is the greatest insurance aga8nst tragedy.

Amazing book. Read the first chapter. It shows what is in this man's heart.

A collection of sermons and general conference addresses is generally better when you read the chapters one at a time rather than straight through. This one is no exception. While the sermons are generally grouped by topic, there is not really continuity between them. Each chapter really is written to stand on its own. In some ways, it may function better as a reference book.

Some of the chapters may seem dated by their focus on and concern with then-current events, but the principles behind those concerns are more generally applicable. The book overall has a pedantic tone that isn't inconsistent with President Packer's speaking and writing style. I especially appreciate President Packer's concern with a plain, simple, understandable style of writing. His love of pioneer history is also readily apparent.

This was an excellent book from some of his sermons. That is one thing I like about Boyd K Packer is that he is very direct in what he talks about.

I'd actually like to give this a 3.5 rating. I liked it more than average but I wouldn't say I "really" liked.
