Broken Boys #1

The First Time

Rate this book
You only get one first time.

Mike Freeman is a self-assured teen who thinks he knows everything. But he has one big weakness—abandonment issues. Which is why he is struggling after his best friend moves away unexpectedly. He turns to Jockey Savage for company, a scruffy stoner dude who Mike usually only visits on Friday nights for the pair’s secret bro-job arrangement.

Mike is ashamed of the arrangement. Not because he’s getting sexual relief from another guy, but because of who the guy is. Jockey Savage is an oddball and a pervert, and if anyone found out about the purpose of Mike’s Friday night visits then he would be the joke of the town—just like Jockey is.

Up until now their arrangement has been a one-way street, all in Mike’s favor. But that might change with Jockey’s twenty-first birthday fast approaching, especially when the birthday boy asks Mike for a special present. The sort of present that if Mike isn’t careful could see the pair going all the way for the first time…

Zane lives way down under on the west coast of New Zealand; the wet side. He is a fan of ghost stories, sport, ducklings and nights out that usually lead to his head hanging in a bucket the next morning.

He enjoys creating characters who have flaws, crazy thoughts and a tendency to make bad decisions. Zane’s stories are emotionally-charged and don’t shy away from darker themes. After all, they do say there is no light without the dark.

The First Time, or The Secret Kinky Sex Lives of Bored Kiwis. This was not a romance. More a short new-adult erotica that was unintentionally hilarious and like quite filthy. We get aimless Mike, a recent high school grad in small town New Zealand. He thinks he's straight but has a FWB situation going on with oddball stoner Jockey. Nothing really happens in this book other than some bizarre experimentation. I was entertained, but it was all a bit ridiculous, really.

2 NASTY 🌟s
and not the good kind of nasty…

It was really hard for me to enjoy this, because the dudes in this book were gross. In every way, from personality to hygiene. I really had a hard time getting over how icky Mike described Jockey. It was basically “he hardly showers, stinks, and I’d rather laugh at him than with him because he’s a big fat loser but as long as he keeps blowing me I can deal.” Brian, the bestie Mike is pining for, sounds like a massive douche canoe and I’m not really excited for his return. The only decent male in this story was Gavin, Mike’s pseudo-father.

All that said, I am going to read book two. It’s intriguing enough that I do want to know what happens next.

Holy mother!!! ..... This was hot 🥵!

Really one of the hottest stories I've read in some time. So dirty but at the same time not touching vulgarity.

The lost Mike feels himself he's trapped in is so real, is comprehensible at the end it hadn't finished with them both together in a romantic way, and (obviously is only the first book) that's the core of every romance novel, is not the end but the journey what makes them beautiful. I'm very eager to get the second part, like rn.

I love the way Jockey is portrayed, like not your typical MC but the other way around, like an underdog, a diamond to be discovered, and I like Mike has got glances of the shine, but still very much is missing the other parts. It makes it more intriguing and more interesting to look at their relationship. I just hope they can continue that journey.

As for Brian I want him to never come back, he sounds like such an asshole.

Anyways, this fire-filled story takes ⭐⭐⭐⭐ of me.

It was weirdly too long like all the world building was leading nowhere since the book is mostly about the smut. Also Brian sound like a dick.
Still a little curious to see where this goes.

Alright. I'll admit that I usually just rate and move on, but I'm left without the fifth book out yet and quite a few uncomfortable feelings that I need to address. You're welcome?

First of all, the aimless MC led around by his dick appeals to me. I'd never behave like this in real life, but we read to experience and express things we wouldn't normally. In a fantasy world, I'd probably be every bit as indecisive and smutty. For you romance or erotica readers, don't you fall in love with a new MC every time you pick up a new book? Haven't you ever had side characters that made you go, "Hmmm!" You can hide your beautiful smuttish ways by saying you just want to see them get their happy ending, but don't deny you want to ride that wave with them because we're all either romantic or erotic voyeurs.

As of book four, this series leaves no um... 'stones' unturned.

Now...what would I change? I'd swap out the F word dropped so often for another, less offensive, term. I cringed when I first saw it because I see it as a violent word and that cringe never stopped and no, it didn't at any point start turning me on. I kept reading because I wanted to see who Mike got off with next. (I'm absolutely hoping he gets him some Gavin. Trent was the best surprise so far, hands down.)

I also don't care for watersports. I would swap it out for desperation play instead. It focuses more on control than humiliation or unsanitary practices.

All that being said, I know I'm not the target demographic for this book. There's people out there that love humiliation to that degree. Sure. But reviews are subjective and that's what kept it from getting a five star from me.

My advice: Ride the edge of improper without falling off because once you do, you're just playing in the mud for no reason.

Unsure how to feel

This book was different than what I was expecting. The characters are really rather unlikable. Mike is a rude, mean, and homophobic guy. Jockey is described as dirty, smelly, and made to feel kind of gross. And Brian seems like a tool. This is not a romance, which I anticipated going in but I was not prepared foe the amount of hate that is in this book and the dubious consent was not my favorite either. All that being said I will be continuing to read the next book because it intrigued me enough to do so.

This one was fine but I read the descriptions of the rest and don’t think I can go any further with the series.

Great beginning to Mike and Jockey's journey

Very happy to meet Mike and Jockey in Part One of PRETTY IN KINK. The gift Mike gives Jockey for his 21st birthday was indeed kinky and fun. And Jockey's revelation of a heretofore unknown fetish for Mike's feet was an unexpected but most welcome addition to the annual "birthday dare." Something I hope will be explored further in future episodes, which I am anxious to read.
