Fun look at a cat's place in history bu Kimberlie Hamilton and Jocelyn Kao. History is a difficult subject to write for children. Go funny like horrible Histories or make it too wordy....this is somewhere in the middle.

It follows what we know about when cats were first domesticated - as long ago as 12000 years ago. Throughout history they have been part of our lives, seen as ridders of disease and Gods to some, and companions of the Gods (Freya from Norse mythology). There are different types of cat, depending on the country.

Obviously there is the black cat - lucky for some people, sign of witchcraft for others.

Did you know that Edward 111 ordered every English ship to have a cat on board in the 1300s! This held until 1975, when it was deemed unhygienic! Cats have joined early flight and even a 1963 space mission!

Terry Pratchett said "Cats will amusingly tolerate humans only until someone comes up with a tin opener that can be operated with a paw."

Amusing book, full of info I didn't know. Will be enjoyed by lovers of all animals not just cats.
