Fair Falls Fated #2

Unexpected Fate

Benji

My boss is a jerk. My work is impeccable, but no matter what I do, it's never enough. He bites my head off for the smallest infraction, real or imagined. Just being around him makes my body hot with anger—and other feelings I’m not brave enough to name. He’s gotten under my skin, but I can't focus on him when I have other problems. All I’ve ever wanted was a family of my own, but having a disorder that affects my fertility makes it feel like an unattainable dream. Just when I think I’ll never have the life I envisioned, fate intervenes and everything changes in one fell swoop.

Rome

My assistant is infuriating. He's a snarky smart ass—and smells better than any omega I've ever met. Something within him calls to the alpha in me, but he keeps me at arm’s length. I'm sure my cold shoulder and attitude haven't helped, but as soon as he comes near me, my brain seems to go offline. One of these days his smart mouth is going to get him into trouble, and I’m going to make sure he gets everything he deserves.

Unexpected Fate is a low angst, boss/employee, fated mates, M/M omegaverse romance about a snarky omega and his short-tempered alpha boss, with heats, knotting, office encounters, found family vibes, and a guaranteed HEA.

Trigger warning: mpreg, strong sexual content, fertility issues, off-page past parental abuse, off-page past attempted assault of a minor.

“I’ll never get enough of you, Benjamin. I love you.”

Unexpected Fate is a sweet low angst romance about Benji, an omega, and Rome, his ill tempered alpha boss. Benji struggles with fertility issues and is going through treatments but feels like his dream of having his own family is slipping away.

Benji and Rome are pretty hostile to one another, but after a heated encounter, they realize they are fated mates. It takes some time for them to get on the same page.

My heart swells, loving the fact that my alpha has claimed me. No matter how weird, strange, or sudden it sounds, I love this man. I love my alpha more than words can describe. Having a fated mate is better than I realized. I wish I had let it happen instead of fighting against it for my own selfish reasons.

Rome had a quick 180 once he realized who Benji was to him, but I'm glad he acknowledged his behaviour/treatment of Benji and apologized. I enjoyed the banter between the two, and it was pretty steamy! I also liked how we got heat sex, pregnancy and a birth scene.

While this is book two, I was able to enjoy it as a standalone. I will definitely be checking out book one and future books in this series.

This was certainly a great enemies to lovers book. This book just had all the feels for me. I loved the story and the characters. I took off a star because I thought there was a little too much inner monologue. It wasn’t enough to turn me off. I’ve enjoyed this series.

This was such a sweet story set in an omegaverse world with a boss/employee and enemies-to-lovers plot that I enjoyed so much.
Ben is an omega who works as an assistant for an alpha lawyer, Rome, who is the most insufferable boss ever. They argue, yell at each other and, overall, don't stand each other. Of course, there is some attraction behind all that animosity and one day, lust takes over and they discover they are fated mates.
I loved the banter at the beginning of the book. I enjoyed Ben putting Rome in his place, how he never shied away from his boss's bossiness. He was a brave omega dealing with fertility issues and didn't have time to deal with his boss's rudeness. Rome was actually a teddy bear inside, it took him a while to get used to the idea of not ordering Ben around. He accepted they were fated mates from the beginning and it was lovely to see how he gave himself to Ben.
I also liked Tanner, a secondary character with an important role in the story, besides Ben's friends who were adorable too.
This is one of those stories where things turn out well, there is hardly any conflict at all and it's very low angst. However, there are some issues that the MCs have to overcome and I strongly recommend readers to read the TWs as there might be things that touch too close to home.
Overall, it was a beautiful book, great for a comfort read with a touching HEA.

Incredibly steamy - these two could not keep their hands to themselves once they got over their animosity!
I liked them as a pairing. They both had a lot in common and wanted the same things out of life. While their start was rocky, mostly because of Rome's past, Rome did work to overcome and make up for that.
The highlight of the book for me was Tanner. I was pretty sure how the rest of the plot was going to go, and I enjoyed that, but Tanner stole every scene. He really cemented the two as a couple and gave Benji the family he had always wanted.
I still would like a little more world-building. Some details are missing to give a wider picture, but mostly I get sucked into the story and the steam.
Hopefully Peter is next or maybe Kwan.

This is the second book in the Fair Falls Fated series. It can be a stand alone but its so much more enjoyable if you read the first book, Surprised by Fate.
Unexpected Fate has......
Enemies to lovers
Fated Mates
Found Family
Alpha/Omega
Boss/Employee
and Mpreg
This is such a sweet and spicy book.
I love Benji and Rome. It takes them a hot minute to get their act together, but when they do, That's when every thing turns to magic
I really enjoyed seeing the other characters from the first book. Also I loved Tanner and how Benji was so determined to help and love that kid no matter how old he was. I was Invested in this little family's story. I really like the Fair Falls universe and can't wait for more.
I have received an ARC from GRR and this is my honest opinion

Cute enough but far too predictable and unmemorable. Their little family is nice and all but I'm not sure I really buy the 180 that they both have once they realise they're fated. Rome is suddenly such a nice guy? Hm. Ok.

Benji and Rome ❤️

4 Stars ⭐️

I adored this story. It had low key enemies to lover vibe but it was more snarky meets stubborn and it was such a cute ride. I love nothing more than when a bulled headed MC falls head over heel when it's least expected and this one had that and more. I was surprised at how emotional this story became but it added so much to this couple, their fate and their love. The snark factor was on point and it was great to see these two break each other down to find their hea. It was cute, it was sweet and let me tell you....explosive 🔥🔥🔥. I would most definitely recommend this book, it was such a fun read.

Benji, an Omega has a syndrome making it difficult to conceive and he badly wants kids. He has fertility surgery. He's hot for his grumpy new boss, Rome who returns the interest but is fighting it. They have a quick encounter and even though they recognize they are fated mates they avoid each other. This book is full of sexy times and unexpected heats, It's obvious they are hot for each other, need each other and complete each other. Throw in previous book friends, new twists and you have a good book. I like this world of RS's. I received a copy of this book through Gay Romance Reviews and this is my honest opinion.

It took me a little while to get attached to Rome, however, I loved the relationship between Benji and Tanner, they both so deserved to have a happy ending!

Benji fought so hard for a family and Tanner had been through so much, they were perfect for each other. Rome also fit into the small family they were forming, I loved how Tanner gradually trusted him.

ꕀꕀꕀꕀꕀꕀꕀꕀ

So glad Benji got the life he deserved. Rome may have been stupid when they first met, but hes one of the best things to ever happen to Benji. Though we do find out why...

All Benji ever wanted was to be a father, thanks to Rome, that comes true. Who wouldnt want their partner to suposed their wishes and help them get that dream.

Enemies to lovers is my favorite...totally my jam. This was explosive. Benji and Rome was so volatile that I couldn't wait to see how they will achieve their HEA...and WOW... how they got there was HOT and entertaining. This did pull on a lot emotional heart strings tho...Eventhough Benji was as Rome called him a "feisty omega". he had a lot of emotional turmoil and Rome being Benji's alpha...his fated mate...was there to help him through it...This was definitely a rollercoaster ride with sweet and cute additions along the way. I'm loving this series and can't wait to read more.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

4 stars. The author says herself she loves omegaverse and it shows in this novel. Worth reading the Afterword as she explains the basis of the plot and how the novel ended up turning out differently from the initial plot. Also the classic phrase “I can write lubeless heat scenes!” :D

The story is the classic grumpy boss (Rome)/efficient employee (Benjamin) trope and after the initial disagreements between the two, they clash when Benjamin has to work late and the argument escalates into sex and the realisation that they are fated mates. They both then avoid dealing with this attraction by ignoring or avoiding discussing it because of Rome’s previous relationships and Ben’s fertility issues.

Two weeks later, Benjamin has his extremely low fertility confirmed by his doctor which devastates him as he wants chalsoildren, even though the damage to his womb has been successfully fixed, and on the same day meets a 14 year old runaway Tanner who then bolted before Benjamin could do anything about his situation. That same day Rome yells at him for being late without checking why and Benjamin yells at him in return about the diagnosis and Tanner, and leaves. But Rome finally does the right thing and apologises that night and they meet up the following day, at which point they talk through the issues that were preventing them to do so before, and where the acceptance of the mateship starts.

The book continues with the two main themes above which includes how Rome helps Benjamin with his agonising heat and fertility problems, and Tanner’s reappearance and how they deal with that. The supporting characters of Brandon and Mason are great (I assume from the first book as this is the first one of the series I’ve read) and the story is well written and enjoyable to read - I got through it pretty quickly!

There were a couple of disconnects in the story for me - without giving too many details away - one is why if Benjamin has a healthy womb he doesn’t use someone else’s ovary (IVF), and secondary why they didn’t prosecute Tanner’s father instead of the action they did do. Of course this could be all about this omniverse’s rules and technology but the only two items i picked up.

As promised, (relatively other than beginning bit) low angst story and followed through well, including an epilogue. First time reading this author and look forward to future books with her!

I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review.

Trying to catch up on a few books/series. Here's R.S. McKenzie's "Unexpected Fate." It's the second book in her Fair Falls Fated series.
["Benji

Just being around him makes my body hot with anger—and other feelings I’m not brave enough to name. He’s gotten under my skin, but I can't focus on him when I have other problems. All I’ve ever wanted was a family of my own, but having a disorder that affects my fertility makes it feel like an unattainable dream. I'm sure my cold shoulder and attitude haven't helped, but as soon as he comes near me, my brain seems to go offline. One of these days his smart mouth is going to get him into trouble, and I’m going to make sure he gets everything he deserves."]

These two...trying to tell each other (and others--any themselves) that they hate each other. It obviously didn't last long. ;)

When they finally allowed themselves to feel that chemistry, it was fire. That doesn't mean it was easy, though. They still fought fate. When fate said "no more" and took that option from them though? They quickly succumbed to the overwhelming feelings of love and affection (and possession).

Neither of them had a family when this all started, but when it ended, they had a family bigger than either of them thought was possible.

Trigger warnings: fertility issues, discussion of fertility surgery, off-page past parental abuse, off-page past attempted assault of a minor, and more

❤️📚 Book Review: Unexpected Fate by RS McKenzie 📚❤️

Benji is Rome's personal assistant at the law firm, but they are always at odds. There's anger, yelling, and spite wedged between them ... and maybe a little of yearning? Does fate have another idea for these two enemies?

Okay, I'm not always a big enemies to lovers fan because they either don't seem like real enemies or they seem to fall in love too quickly and I wonder where the animosity disappeared to. But, RS McKenzie dealt with it well, I feel. I love that Rome realizes he has his own issues to work through and that Benji is just reacting to his misplaced anger because he won't just take it. I love that they really talk to each other and don't just jump in because they're fated mates. I also love the story line with sweet Tanner! Adoption is a big choice that felt natural for Benji with his backstory and even to Rome, who couldn't help falling in love with the wholly lovable teenage boy who needed a home. This book made me swoon, but still contained plenty of spice. If you can't tell, I loved it!

This is the second in the series, but pretty easily read as a standalone. I would recommend reading in order though, if you don't want spoilers for the first couple.

Themes and possible triggers: found family, omegaverse, adoption story, strong sexual content, off page parental abuse, talk of attempted assault of a minor, infertility issues, mpreg

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
Spice: 🌶🌶🌶

Big thanks to the author for my arc copy in exchange for an honest review.

Benji and Rome work together, Benji as Rome’s executive assistant. The two seemed to rub each other the wrong way from the start, even though there is something going on under the surface. As an Alpha, Rome is leery of omegas since a bad breakup seven years ago, and he finds omega Benji infuriating, meeting his snarky comments with coldness and attitude. Benji is constantly angry with the way he feels he is treated, so the working environment is not particularly cordial. Benji is also dealing with fertility issues that makes a family of his own be a dream more than a reality. When Benji meets a 14 year old alpha boy on the streets, he wants to help, but the boy runs. Unable to forget the boy, Benji hopes to be able to find the boy again and get him the help and safe place he needs.
There are a lot of different threads coming together in this book, but since the blurb talks about fated mates, it is obvious that becomes central to the evolution of the rest of the story. How Roman and Benji handle the issues once they discover they are mates is realistic within the MM omegaverse, going through heats, facing infertility while desiring a family, helping a young alpha find safety, and caring for each other. The book kept me involved as the story unfolded, bringing some laughter and more than a few tears, getting me involved emotionally too. A good afternoon read with engaging characters I liked from the start. 4.5 stars, rounded up to 5.

Fun and snarky boss-assistant, enemies to lovers omegaverse Mpreg MM romance

Sparks and snark leap off the pages with grumpy alpha boss Rome and his sassy omega assistant Benji. Benji’s going through some things, and he’s done putting up with his boss’s rude manners and demanding ways. Benji’s always three steps ahead, but Rome never gives him a break. Why?

Poor Rome. Benji smells so good, but there’s no way in hell Rome is giving in to the urge to claim him. Been there, done that, got the burn marks to show for it. So what if the draw between them is mutual…fated-mates level mutual. Doesn’t mean anyone has to do anything about it!

When Benji’s last nerve snaps and his heat comes on, the last person he wants to tell is his boss…

Totally fun and sweet, with found family, fertility struggles, great friends, and two men who are meant to be…this little charmer entertained me and made me smile all the way through. It’s not super complex and stays straightforward, but it’s a lot of fun to read. The MCs have chemistry, and the pining is delicious. As is the explosion when they give in.

HEA, boss-assistant, enemies to lovers, omegaverse with heat and knotting, Mpreg, found family. No cheating or emotional cheating. Sweet steamy goodness. Recommended.

My thanks to Gay Romance Reviews for the ARC; this is my free and impartial opinion.

Review:
This was a fun second edition to the Fair Falls Fated series, and this time we follow Brandon's old roommate Benji and the relationship that develops between him and his antagonistic boss, Rome. Rome is always so thrown off by Benji and uses his antagonism to hide behind his feelings and hurt, and Benji is just tired of the trouble that he finds himself in with Rome. Everything changes once they touch and realise who they are to each other, even though there are still conversations to be had. But Benji goes into his heat early, and the it's his first heat since surgery to possibly help alleviate the difficult symptoms of his heat because of a condition he has. I really appreciated seeing the ways that fertility issues are discussed in this story, and I also loved reading about Tanner and Benji and Rome's fight to save him from his situation. I also loved the smut as always, even if there is unfortunately actual plot in this story and not just porn 🤭 I am very curious who else we will see in future installments of this series, but I secretly hope we get a Tanner and Seong story

I thoroughly enjoyed this newest book in RS McKenzie's mpreg series! The title of this book perfectly defines the theme throughout this story. There are more than one unexpected moments of fate impacting all the major characters. Benjamin, an omega, and Rome, an alpha, start off as annoyances to each other. Eventually their mutual attraction leads to a steamy office sexual encounter, during which they realize they are fated mates. They both need to work through emotional turmoil, as they progress to a sweet, and heartwarming mating. This author masterfully weaves together and balances a number of my favorite mpreg story elements, which includes:
-Fascinating plot themes in this all-male world setting.
-Diverse characters with distinctive personality and ethnicity.
-Emotional, physical and medical challenges.
-Steamy and juicy sexy scenes depicting heat sex with slick, knotting, breeding, womb c*ck milking, marking, pregnancy sex.
-Pregnancy with natural birth, chest lactation feeding the infant.
-Many scenes with the resulting family, and found family.
This book put a smile on my face and in my heart. I hope there will be many more future books in this fun series.
Highly recommended!

This is a great book. Benjamin is an omega that we met in the first book. He is the best friend of Brandon. Benji has had his surgery and gets very disheartening results. Rome, an alpha, is Benji's boss and a royal pain! He was hurt in the past, so he keeps pushing Benjamin away and denying what his alpha nature is telling him. Benjamin is returning from his devastating appointment, a young alpha runs up to him and asks for help. Tanner is only 14 and reminds Benji of himself when he was younger, and he vows to help the boy if he can find him again. After all of this, Rome yells at him when he gets to the office. Things begin to take on a more strained atmosphere between the two. Will they be able to see what fate is trying to show them? Will Tanner come back to Benjamin for help, and will there be changes ahead that no one could foresee with Benjamin's health? Get this book and you will not be disappointed as there is enemies to lovers, cute baby Zane, an undeniable heat chemistry and getting to adopt a young alpha that only wants to be loved by his father. Benji is an omega who wants what he sees others have - a mate and a family. But it is not so simple for him. He is dealing with  a health condition that will challenge his ability to conceive. He is also dealing with a boss that makes him crazy in more than one way. Roman, his boss and an alpha, is infuriating in the way he treats him in the office and he is also attracted to the man and not happy about that. Roman too is dealing with an unwanted attraction to Benji and a hesitation to do anything about it because of past hurts. They work together, can't avoid one another, wind up acting on their attraction and trying to ignore what is right there - that they are fated mates and belong together. They have a lot to deal with as they work their way to their HEA and create the family and acknowledge the love they both want. But get there they do and along the way they help Tanner, a young alpha in need of a good home, love and support and add to their joy in a way that helps both settle into life together in a satisfying way.

Rating this as I read the book:

Pages 1-82: First thoughts; the MC is a whining brat. Although I am ‘female’ I never understood the obsession with having kids and then being sad when you couldn’t have them. Get over it please (sorry not sorry). The MC is rude for no reason and then uses the excuse of him not having kids to try and justify himself (not specifically saying it but constantly mentioning it in what we read). Also, do surragotes and implants not work? Sure you have 40 eggs that may or may not be able to be fertilized but we have technology to take them out, fertilize them and then put it back in you or in another person (idk if they actually take it out, I’m pretty sure they inject you). Stop whining when you have other options you just aren’t thinking about.

Pages 82-100: I quit. Don’t like them. Don’t like the story. The MC is insufferable and the ML is ehh. I hate bossy sassy MC’s because authors suck at writing them correctly and this one shows it. There’s no need for him to be rude, same with the ML. It feels like another classic cliche Wattpad story that somehow got published into the big leagues.

A high 3.5 rating! Benji and Rome's story was steamy, and fueled by hate. Or so they thought. Benji is Rome's assistant and has been for quite some time, no matter what he does Rome is always rude and gruff towards him. Well, Benji won't just accept Rome's attitude, no, Benji will give it right back to the man.

Rome had his heart broken by a feisty Omega 7 years ago, ever since then he has refused to let anyone else in. It's why he treats Benji so poorly, although that shouldn't be an excuse. He's trying to work on it, to be better, he just always seems to fail at it.

I liked Benji and Rome's story, their romance was definitely more of an enemies to lovers romance story than anything else. Along with a workplace romance. I liked how accepting and kind was of Benji's inability to have biological kids of his own. He was kind and supportive. I adored Tanner's character, he brought such a needed warmth and familial component to the story. Overall I thought this book was cute! If you want a book that's full of steamy scenes and gives a found family feel, this book is for you.

We first met Benji and Rome in Surprised by Fate. Benji is Brandon’s roommate who encourages Brandon to get away after being fired. Benji is dealing with health issues and is very independent. He doesn’t want Brandon around when he recovers from surgery. When his boss retires, Benji gets a new boss who is attracted to him and treats him horribly because of it. Listen, I understand Rome was hurt by his cheating ex, but Benji was spot on when he said it was seven years ago. Good grief, get some therapy and don’t take it out on your subordinates. Once they realize they are mates, Rome makes a concerted effort to win over Benji who is dealing with the loss of his fertility. I loved the story of Tanner, the young alpha living on the streets and how Benji and Rome take him in. What a sweet, sweet family by the end. I am hoping and crossing my fingers that the Christmas novella is about Peter. I recommend this series to anyone who likes mpreg romances.

Rome & Benjamin

Okay, I'm an Omegaverse fan... Have a few favorites... But, I believe that I enjoyed this more than many of my faves.... Rome and Benjamin have a rocky and precarious start to their relationship... In all honesty, Rome starts off an Alpha-hole who was hurt in the past and carries that baggae with him many years later... Benjamin is an independent Omega with a snarky quick witted attitude who is beyond effective in his position as Rome's Secretary in a legal firm... Ba-by!!! When I tell you this sexual tension is just waiting to spill over and sweep these two up in its wake...

Add in adopting an Alpha teen... Health issues in the heat department... And, a unexpected surprise for this delightful couple... You have a winning recipe for a wonderfully written Omegaverse read that leaves you anticipating this author's next release!!!

3.5 stars. Overall, this was an enjoyable read and a great addition to the Fair Falls series. I thought this book was even better than the first. Benji and Rome had explosive chemistry and it was a delight to see how they got their happy ending. The TWs surrounding infertility should be taken very seriously. As someone going through IVF, it was difficult to read but the raw emotion Benji experienced was extremely relatable and well written. While I did enjoy the addition of Tanner, I do wish we got to see a bit more time of Benji and Rome as a couple before they adopted him and became pregnant. I also felt like their tension slipped away a bit too easily and would have liked to see more communication and more groveling from Rome. I found his excuse for why he behaved the way that he did to be ridiculous after so many years. While not a perfect read, I still enjoyed it and would recommend the series to others.

Unexpected Fate is Book 2 in the Fair Falls Fated series. I really enjoyed this book. It drew me in from the very beginning. I couldn't put it down and I didn't want it to end. Benji, an omega, is Rome's assistant and though he has some medical issues going on he does his job well. Rome, an alpha, doesn't know what to do with his growing feelings for Benji as he's had bad relationships in the past. Tanner, a 14 year old runaway, finds himself in a bad situation and comes across Benji and latches onto him. It seems fate is not only bringing Benji and Rome together but also a possible family for Tanner. Tanner is a sweet kid who just needs a chance. This book is a rollercoaster of emotions. I will admit I may have cried a few happy tears. Benji and Rome get a well deserved happily ever after. Definitely recommend!

I am so enjoying this series. We met Benji in the first book as he is the BFF of Brandon & they were also roommates. Poor Benji wants kids, but he has a disease that causes fertility issues and is very rare. He does have the surgery in the last book, it's just briefly touched on & we get to see in this book if it worked or not. Rome is a sweet alpha lawyer & loved him as soon as we met him. I loved that Benji took no lip from him & was not afraid to stand up to him. Loved their banter. What I love is that they accepted the fated mates. We also have the entrance of 14 yr old Tanner, who came in to Benji's life when he was needed & shows you that found family is just as loved as made family. This was a very sweet low angst read.

I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest opinion.

The Omega Heat moments written by this author are some of the hottest in the genre. It's unbelievable how much steam is coming off the pages. The scenarios are wonderfully written and imaginative, and the sweetness balances out the spiciness perfectly.
I find it hilarious that Benji is the one keeping Rome in check with his snarky remarks. It's refreshing to see that not all omegas are bland and docile. Benji has a character that matches the might of his alpha and the intestinal fortitude to never be overtaken. Rome has room for improvement, but he is receptive to advice and pays attention when it is given. He genuinely cares for Benji and wants to see him and their relationship succeed. Tanner is a nice edition to the story, it gives a bit darker contrast into a really light fluffy yarn.I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review

Fate is busy in this series. Benji, omega, works as personal assistant to Rome. Benji, stands up for himself and gives as good as he gets. He has mastered the 'nice nasty' as my Mom would say! He gets all tingly when dealing with his boss, Rome. Rome is a bit overbearing and aggressive, while finding Benji's sass arousing and smell delicious. Rome spends a lot of his time championing Omega Rights. They have a moment one night after working extra late. Both Benji and Rome pull some heavy baggage from present and past, respectively life experiences. Do they want to work through their issues? How do they handle new additions and challenges? Can they solidify their team? Totally hot story with absolutely likeable characters. Great flow, nicely paced. Well done, absorbing surprises, hot cover art! I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
