This was adorable. Nanao is an eager sacrifice and seeing him attempt to convince Daija, the snake god, to eat him was so cute and funny.

Nanao does have depth beyond his apparent superficiality, but even as he shows his caring heart, he never loses his lighthearted charm.

Daija is the grumpiest of grumps, but he's also endearingly awkward, making his little acts of tenderness all the more meaningful.

This was a mostly lighthearted one shot, and I enjoyed it a lot.

2.5 ⭐️

I need some sort of compensation for having to read “you think that’s gonna stop me? I could get a bicycle pregnant” with my own two eyes.

Anyways, this one was… fine, I suppose? I liked it a lot at the beginning and then I just stopped liking it at some point about halfway through. The cunty older brother and his goofy snake sidekick were definitely the best characters.

Sometimes you just have to embarrass yourself in front of all your friends in the bookstore by fujoing out and buying yaoi so explicit it’s in shrink wrap, even if said yaoi ends up being not worth it. That is my truth amen and goodnight

More of a 3.5 star rating but I gave it 4 stars because the characters were really cute.
I really like that Nanao having a more complex motivation for being so determined to be a literal sacrifice to Daija. I also like that despite Daija’s seemingly disinterested, or even rude, attitude towards Nanao at times, the snake god ended up being very caring and attentive in his own way.
I actually wish there was more to this one-shot manga because it would’ve been really interesting to see more of Nanao and Daija’s families, and their interactions with them.

Really had fun reading this one! I just wish we saw the babies! Also, there's a lot of loose ends and some statements that were thrown here and there without really proper backgrounds or explanations. But, still cute!

4,5 rounded to 5. The god(seme) said he could get him pregnant, so I wish we could see the kid(s). Nice story, without non-cons or rape. No huge plot, though.

The art is good and the story fun.

It's fine? It's a very basic story with a basic premise. A young man is raised to be a sacrifice to a god, but when he arrives, he finds the god uninterested in him. The young man does his best to persuade the god otherwise for the sake of his family, but the god couldn't care less and doesn't want to etc etc. Neither of the characters have much depth to their personalities, and their relationship "develops" in that the chapter continues, but there isn't much of a plot to speak of. Their eventual attraction to each other is baffling because there's no actual character development/plot. They just start acting like they're in love with each other for no developed reason. There is sex but it's not particularly graphic, and it feels like the side characters are the primary arbiters of the whole affair than the two actual main characters.

…I wouldn’t have picked this up if I’d known it was about a snake god tbh, I’m so scared of snakes!! This was pretty mid, it really needed more time to flesh out both the Uzumaki family and the world of the gods. I feel like it left openings for a sequel tbh so maybe there will be one? I’d probably pick it up because I am interested in some of the loose ends.

As far as the smut, it was a little much for me. Too…snakey. *shudder*

This is actually kind of unique and a bit weird. For someone who isn't really into the kemonomimi genre, I couldn't quite click with this manga.

But even so, I found the interactions between the MC and ML pretty entertaining. The illustration of the chibi characters when the MC gets thrown by the ML using his tail is my favorite part, hahaha.

I really, really wanted to like this more than I did. I recently read a good chunk of The Sacred Serpent's Seduction, so this called out to me. I went into it not comparing the two at all because they are actually very different other than the serpent aspect of it. This one had cute moments but it just didn't hold my attention like I hoped it would and I just was not feeling it.

I have read this manga twice and I will read it again once I’m done writing this review!

This was an adorable read that was primarily comedic. Nanao was born to be a sacrifice and he’s devoted his life to being the perfect one. He’s eager to give himself to the snake god, Daija, to renew the Uzumaki family’s covenant. It was funny seeing Nanao try really hard to convince Daija to devour him.

Nanao was a lovable character. He has a depth to him but he always puts his positive light-heartedness first. Nanao is also quite innocent so his emotions are easily reflected on his face, as well as easily conveyed to others. Nanao’s past is quite sad so I love that he put it behind him and was looking towards the present and future. That said, it also makes him a very strong and selfless character.

Daija is almost the opposite of Nanao. He’s grumpy and awkward yet also kind. He doesn’t want to accept Nanao as a sacrifice, but as he slowly starts caring for him in his own way, his feelings begin to change. Daija becomes quite the passionate partner for Nanao and I love all his little acts because they are filled with a tenderness. Also, I loved how Daija wore long sleeves that covered his hands because I found it quite adorable!

The plot of this manga is generic but I felt like the execution makes it stand out. I’m sure some readers won’t like it, but I personally love it. It doesn’t go through the same drama or love triangle as other stories with a sacrifice and god relationship, as well as the quick romance makes things more clear. I honestly prefer this to angst and the common lack of communication plot.

The artwork is good. It’s quite a bright manga aside from when Daija starts taking his godly snake form. There is an evident black mist and darkness which I found to be a nice and interesting touch. Nanao has the most facial expressions and scenes with iconography, however Daija’s subtle blushes won my heart in the end. This manga does a good job in capturing multiple emotions per chapter. I also loved the chibi and cartoon-y or comedic character designs. They were a fun addition with perfect comedic placement keeping the story light-hearted and fun.

Overall I really enjoyed this manga! I wish there was a time skip so we could see both Nanao and Daija together with their kids. I would definitely recommend giving this a try for its comedic story and cute characters!

This was surprisingly sweet, and also really funny.

Some things aren't 100% to my taste - I'm glad that - and I was hoping they'd address something about the differences between their human and god-snake lifespans. Maybe making a human your mate extends that somehow? Partnered immortality? More likely that it's just glossed over so readers don't have to think about that part...

Nanao is a vibrant, really funny, very stubborn and determined character. From childhood, he's been raised to be his family's sacrifice to the local fertility god, a contract that's renewed every 111 years and allows his wealthy family to continue their bloodline. Except when it's Nanao's turn, too much time has passed in the human world, and Daija the snake god no longer has any interest in eating humans.

Why would he, when he has plenty of access to ramen and junk food and enjoys regular human activities like stock trading and online gaming and going out to shops and restaurants. So Nanao is just an annoyance in his bachelor pad household.

Nanao is absolutely determined to be the best sacrifice ever, and keeps trying to shove himself down Daija's throat until...well, until they both fall in love.

It's a tiny bit rushed, since it is just one volume, but it works pretty well, considering their personalities. Daija has never met a human like this one before, who's determined to feed him (with regular human food if necessary) and is dedicated to taking care of his family and who refuses to let him be alone.

Unfortunately, the more Nanao falls for Daija, the less he wants to be eaten...which presents a problem.

Enter some meddlesome snake god family members and a few twists about how to wrap up a contract in a different way, and you wind up with a story that doesn't have too much substance to it, but is oddly gentle for its subject matter.

Ikenie Monzenbarai is a comedy M x M manga about a human sacrifice named Nanao Uzumaki who is sent to be sacrificed to a snake god in hopes for a wish that would help his family.
Nothing happens much throughout this volume.
This volume has 7 chapters and most of them consist of Nanao trying to convince Daija/the great snake god to eat him the rest is his various attempts to have the Daija confessed his feelings towards him.
This is one the strangest manga I've ever read.
Some of the scenes were so bizarre I had to skip them altogether.
I'm glad this artist didn't show as much as I worried she would but gosh I wish The daija wouldn't suddenly change to being part snake halfway during certain scenes.
There are some obvious issues with this manga such as Shirohebi (the Daija's brother) drugging Nanao's water in the attempt to tempt the Daija into eating Nanao.
The characters were severely lacking in character development and Nanao and the Daija were lacking a proper reason to be in love.
Nanao's mother replaced him with his sister without hesitation it seems yet he still cares for her.
His school life was brushed over rather quickly.
His family supposedly told his classmates and teachers that he was transferring to a different school but they never sent paperwork to a different school so he was still able to sneakily return to school without being re-enrolled in school.
I'm not sure how old Nanao is because despite wearing clothing that appears to be a school uniform in class and his two classmates wearing something that appears to be a student uniform he is referred to as a man and appears to be in his twenties.
Apparently this story has a second volume but I haven't seen an English translation of it yet so I don't know how good or bad the story is in that volume.
All and all this was a story I randomly came across while viewing a different series on Google images.
2 and a half stars.

The idea of the ritual sacrifice is a trope we’re all familiar with and it’s often the beginnings of unlikely romances - be it with the dashing prince who rescues said sacrifice, or with the terrible monster they’re supposed to please.

Uzumaki Nanao is perfect, and he knows it. Since birth, he’s been told he was born to be a sacrifice and every bit of his life, until now, has been in service of that fact. He can sing, he’s worked out, he’s studied - just everything to be the perfect sacrifice for the giant snake god that granted his family a favor nearly one hundred and fifty years ago. Unfortunately that god, Daija has no interest in him whatso ever. And who could blame him, really? What would a god need with a sacrifice when he has modern conveniences like Instacart and Netflix?

I have a love for one shots but I wish this one was a little longer then just one volume.

Poor Nanao is the latest sacrifice to his family god, but when that god is not willing to eat him what can Nanao do. His whole life was leading up to this path so now what is he to do.

The snake god wants more that just a meal to fill his stomach, Nanao has not lived a full life and therefore his soul has no flavour. It is up to this go to show Nanao that there is more to life then just his family’s needs.

It was a very cutie story. Needed more time to fully tell the story but over all very fun to read and spicy.

I had heard this one was fun, and it really was!!

To me, it had the perfect amount of comedy, bickering, wholesomeness, some spice and amazing art. The story was really interesting and engaging too! Seeing a slightly different take on gods/sacrifices to gods was also refreshing.

I really wanted to see more of the couple after they got together and there was a sequel announcement at the time of the original release but it seems that it's either been cancelled or is on indefinite hiatus, seeing as only chapter 1 of the sequel was released, back in 2022.

It would've been super fun to see more of them as I love this kind of dynamic but this still worked perfectly as a single volume!

This is a fun, light read that doesn’t take itself too seriously. The story centers on Nanao, who’s been raised to be a sacrifice for a god, but when he finally arrives at the shrine, the god casually rejects him, saying he doesn’t need any offerings.

The manga’s charm lies in the humorous and somewhat absurd dynamic between Nanao and the god, with plenty of lighthearted moments. While it’s definitely entertaining and made me laugh, it’s not a deep dive into anything heavy—just a cute, feel-good read if you’re in the mood for some comedy with a dash of supernatural romance.

Even though there is a huge loose end in regards to the family, the overall plot and romance is super cute in a “my god these two are idiot’s, so I love them” kind of way. I’m actually pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed this more than I was expecting!
