Another conspiracy discovered… Another threat on the horizon… Another world they can help… An idea that could change the galaxy…
The Korsan have declared themselves an empire, and have their sights set on the destruction of the Free Fleet. Now, Nathan Scott must figure out how to hold the Korsan fleet at bay while they repair their ships and get their newly acquired battle platforms out of danger.
"Lesser of Two Evils" is the 9th episode in Part 3 of the Frontiers Fringe Worlds.
Born in 1960 and raised on an overdose of television, NASA, and science fiction, Ryk Brown has worked as a cook, rock guitarist, stage lighting technician, and paramedic. He currently resides in Northern California with his wife, daughter, and cat. By day he fixes computers, and by night he creates stories. Having spent his entire life "thinking stuff up", the advent of digital publishing has finally given him an excuse to write it all down and share it with others. ("Others" meaning someone other than his poor wife and daughter.) A long-time fan of all things science and space, his goal is to write and publish an on-going series of sci-fi adventures. To be set in his own version of humanity's future, his characters will explore the vast reaches of the galaxy, and perhaps even the universe. He invites you all to join him on this journey through his vivid imagination.
I'll admit the title of this book had me a bit worried but seeing how most ppl can be resurrected not as worried as in the past. What can you say after 3 .9 seasons? It's a great series read it from the start, Ryk is doing a wonderful job of holding our interest.
Author Ryk Brown appears to give Captain Nathan Scott and the crew of the Aurora a little time to sit back and repair damage resulting from the last battle with the Korsan. In the previous episode, Nathan took on the crime syndicate that wants universal control and to ultimately defeat the Alliance. He was successful. Barely. Now he's got few armaments and very little defense against an enemy that will spare nothing to vaporize him. In the meantime, he and pilot Josh decide the time is right to take a little detour and scout out what else is going on in the great beyond. The super jump drive makes distrant, really distant, travel relatively simple. But it also involves challenges not imagined by any of the crew or their allies. Nathan's got huge ambitions, and those are costly and time consuming. Fortunately, he's got resources through others. Nathan seeks to use an opportunity that arises about midway to rectify his cash shortage. And, right, the Korsan remain a threat. So does the Alliance. Both groups want his head, something he's not willing to give up without a fight. And so ends my quest to read all nine books, currently available as of this moment, in sequence. It took about a month, and I feel a sense of loss. I wanted to keep going, although I know burying my head into The Frontiers Saga is unsustainable.
I absolutely love these characters! They feel like home to me. You never know what the gang will be up to and the story is always fresh. I think what I love the most is the depth of the characters and their interactions with one another. It’s life and they’re family, loving and protecting each other, yet not holding back if they need to call bull crap for some reason. I love the series so much that I practically inhale it when it’s released, and then I’m back to the anxious waiting game til the next release. Lol I’m certainly glad I stumbled upon Ryk Brown and this series in its infancy and I could not be more happy with its evolution. I keep worrying that something bad is gonna happen to one of the main characters and that would be hard to handle. Their latest tech has helped some with that worry but you never know what an author might come up with. I’m always quick to rave to others about this author’s writing and wonderful storytelling abilities. There is one thing that is niggling at me and without giving too much away, I’m wondering why Nathan did not recognize the person in the next to last scene? Shouldn’t he have? Maybe the next book will tell me what’s up with that.
Rather a disappointing read. It seemed to be just marking time for most of the book and only got into any action in the last few pages. Also, I don't think you park your spaceship right in the face of the bad guy and just fly away. I think you have to at least try to get a jump missile through his defences just to empties the point 'you can find him anywhere and any time' and do him harm.
I think this is the first review not receiving 5stars from me. I truly hope Ryk isn't running dry and just extending the Saga for something to do. If that's the case his fans, of which I am definitely one, will be very disappointed. Better to come, I'm sure.
The story continues with the crew of Aurora expanding their influence to a larger part of the fringe area. First though, they must find a way to start trading between the Alliance and the Kursan worlds and the fringe worlds, keep the Korean and Alliance fleets at bay, and use the new super jump drives to explore. A well written book that leaves you wanting to see what happens next. Will Captain Nathan Scott's luck still hold? Or will it run out. The next book should answer this.
I’ve read every book in this epic series and the characters have grown to be friends. Over the past six months Ryk has enthralled me with his action and good vs evil that layers complexity in the morality of Captain Scott. I strive to echo this main character’s compulsion towards doing the right thing. Thank you for this beautiful adventure, I’m looking forward to the 10th episode of saga #3!
Ful Brown and through him his alter ego, Nathan Scott truly dream sci-fi’s big dream! Travel anywhere in the Milky Way in 1 jump and from the galaxy fringe to neighboring galaxies the same way. And all the while striving to make humanity truly a free place to live. A virtual ‘must read’ saga for all sci-go buff’s of all ages don’t miss out by not being a follower of ‘The Frontiers Saga’ built upon big dreams!
The Free Fleet continues their efforts to repair and remain hidden after the damage in the battle with the Korsen. Their attempt to salvage some of the destroyed enemy ships leads to several discoveries which provide a pathway to potential economic growth and a way to stop at least one enemy before they can return the favor. Tug tries to discover a new role for himself in this new era.
Have been critical of the last 2 books, but thankfully this one has reverted the levels I have experienced from the earlier ones This time around it was a lot more about the Free Fleets development, the premise to which they will work and how they plan to achieve it all We even got to see a Knight in action for the first time, even though he didn't realize it at the time A very good book/storyline, now looking forward to the next much more
Always feel like I'm coming home when I start a new book in the series. I don't know what the characters especially the main characters for a very long time now. I love all the action In the new worlds. Interaction between all the characters Are fun to read. As always I can't wait to get to the next book!
The book was a little slow at 1st Then gives you a chance to get the now the characters in depth. What I like is a realistic aspects engineering Of Space travel, that could cause some technical Problems that could realistically show up. And that it wasn't just a shoot em up Soap opera scenario Actually had some plots and twist and turns. Good job Rick 😊
Obviously we have come to some chapter ending with this book - the third this year which has been great. Space opera at its finest & one of the finest series of space operas too.
Nathan really does need to shut up telling so many people secrets still though - like how far they can jump! Your not helping Nathan , be quiet 🤪
Good story. The group is expanding its territory. Confronting pirates and a corruption called The Alliance that bastardized the original idea. Now Nathan has new techs in jumping, cloaking and a crew that has grown in size and maturity. Only read if you start at “Aurora” .
I have read every book in this series and have never been disappointed. There are plenty of characters with enough background but not so much that any book seems to be devoted to a particular person. The storylines keep you interested. Absolutely love this series!
Thank you for your wonderful words creating worlds and leaders and hero’s we can root for and celebrate. It’s a dreary world of negativity and disinformation it’s such a pleasure to have ideals survive and thrive in a exciting world such as the universe you have built. I read your stories and they provide peaceful satisfaction. Thank you. Rogersgreen
Thanks to Ryk Brown, when the time comes, I have the instructions and knowledge on how to setup an civilization. Iam working on the other critical path, that being of getting friends and people who will trust me. A fabulous series and set of adventures and characters which I never seem to get tired of reading again and again.
The series is back on track, filling in some pot holes, offering useful explanations and world building for the future.
Someone jumped to another galaxy. I wonder if it was inhabited and something follows him home? Could there be rampant AIs out there? Aliens? Who knows?
I love it when the story ends on an up-swing. Now that the super jump drive can jump to other galaxies, I'm hoping Ryk introduces an evil alien presence. The possibilities are endless....
Mr Brown's writing is never predictable. There's always some surprise . This book is a bit weaker than his usual style, but it's definitely worth reading. And he always leaves me very very hungry for the next one.
39 books deep and I still can't wait for the next one to come out upon finishing the last. If you've made it this far in the series, there is certainly no reason to stop here.
Back on track...Back on track...Back on track...Back on track...Back on track...Back on track...17 word minimum requirement for review? It should be left to the choice of people...freeeeedom!
Top notch sci fi adventure across the Milky Way! Well written with many interesting characters. This was a perfect execution of space military novel. It doesn't get any better than
The Corson Pirate Empire tries to recover the Jung Platforms and to destroy the Aurora at the same time . Although the Aurora was damaged it made a great accounting of itself and survived.
