Don't Make It Weird: An Entrepreneur's Guide to Being Human on the Internet

Rate this book
Being an entrepreneur is hard, but being an entrepreneur on social media is even harder.

Have you ever actually engaged with someone’s lame dance video on Instagram? Probably not, if you’re being honest. Gimmicks just don’t work, but the pressure of having an online presence can make people do weird things.

Eventually, you have to call bullsh*t. The good news is that when you cut out excuses and ditch the self-sabotaging performances, you can learn to be a real human on the internet.

In Don’t Make it Weird, Colleen teaches you how to bring your whole personality—the messy, awkward, and mundane—to your online presence to create true connection and community. And, of course, to sell to people without making it weird.

Whatever it is you want to do, you can. Just Don’t Make it Weird.

I was slightly concerned when I saw how short this book is, but Colleen really cuts away and the fluff of selling on social media and has the best cheerleader attitude for the reader. Almost everything she addressed resonated with me and her plan of action is so clear and simple. It encourages me for the future. I ordered the paperback copy so I can read it again, highlight it up and refer back to it over and over again because its that good.

"Are you scared to sell, or are you scared for people to know that you're making (or trying to make) money?"

This quote from this book was highlighted and underlined by me because yes, that spoke directly to my soul.

This book is like sitting down with a friend who has had success (and Colleen will be your friend by the end) and letting them give you loving tough love. Colleen opens her journey up so you can see the good and the bad, the highs and the lows. Her missteps and her successes. And never once does she ever say "you must do it like I do it" in order to achieve your own success.

Instead, she repeats over and over why you should and need to do it YOUR way.

If you need that kick in the pants, that refresh breath of fresh air - pick up this book. If your gut is telling you the way you're being trained to social sell feels wrong and icky but your upline insists it works, pick up this book. If you're tired of feeling fake and inauthentic on social media - pick up this book.

I thought it was fantastic!! Colleen is authentic and vulnerable— and funny to boot. Having been on social media a long time she was perfect for re-inspiring me but also a great resource for those starting out on how to show up on social media!!!

Listened to this book on audible. Great listen, really clear, succinct and the reality check, kick and love I needed all in one book, somehow 🤣🤍
