On a chilly spring night in Grandview, reformed tough guy Gordon Reese makes a final break with his old ways, bidding farewell to his roughneck buddies at The Whetstone Bar. But a vicious killer makes certain that Gordon's farewell will be final indeed. And now the haunting begins. Gordon's murder has sparked a return to his violent ways, and his embittered spirit is quickly learning how to physically unleash his fury. He hunts down Craig Lusak -- the last man to see Gordon alive -- and begins to terrorize him mercilessly in a rage fueled by vengeance, anger, and unrelenting bloodlust. Problem is, Gordon may be haunting the wrong man. When ghost whisperer Melinda Gordon begins to investigate the murder, she discovers a terrified Lusak, who, though desperate to ward off his ghostly tormentor, is secretive about his involvement with Gordon Reese's death. Melinda's interference provokes the killer to begin stalking her, and she becomes the next target of his obsessive homicidal rage. For each minute that the murder goes unsolved, Lusak grows weaker and Melinda faces increasing danger. In the ultimate battle between good and evil, will Gordon Reese overcome his demons in time to save Melinda from his killer, or will Gordon's unquenchable thirst for revenge lead her to a horrific end?
Doranna Durgin is an award-winning author (the Compton Crook for Best First SF/F/H novel) whose quirky spirit has led to an extensive and eclectic publishing journey across genres, publishers, and publishing lines. Beyond that, she hangs around outside her Southwest mountain home with horse and highly accomplished competition dogs. She doesn't believe in mastering the beast within, but in channeling its power--for good or bad has yet to be decided! She says, “My books are SF/F, mystery, paranormal romance, & romantic suspense. My world is the Southwest, and my dogs are Beagles!”
Doranna’s most recent releases encompass the three books of the Reckoners trilogy--a powerful ghostbuster raised by a spirit, her brilliantly eccentric backup team, a cat who isn't a cat, and a fiercely driven bounty hunter from a different dimension who brings them together when worlds collide.
I really enjoyed this book about a man who was murdered after he had turned his life around. He went back to the bar when he's buddies used to hang out to say goodbye and as he was leaving someone struck him on the head. As he lay on the ground bleeding he say a man carrying a tire iron running away. He was so angry that he started to haunt that man and cause him a lot of discomfort and pain. Melinda saw him tormenting that man and tried to help. She started trying to learn more about the dead man to try to get him to calm down so he could find peace and cross over. She realized she'd have to find out exactly happened and if the man he was tormenting was really the one who killed him or not. When the ghost realized she was asking his wife questions and upsetting her, he started to go after her too. She was surprised to find help from another ghost who wasn't strong enough to communicate yet but was trying to warn her whenever she was in danger, whether from the dead or the living.
I'm pretty sure this is actually an episode, that or it has the same mystery finger prints on the inside of the shop that is in an episode. It went a little heavy with describing her inappropriate work attire, other than that unimportant information, I enjoyed it and it was written as if it is an episode of the show.
There was a little confusion while reading because there is no indication that there is a transition of time/place/character while reading chapters.
I wish there were more GW tie-in novels, because I wasn't a big fan of this one. I didn't hate it by any means; but just thought it was 'okay'. I think Ms. Durgin gets too caught up in descriptions, especially with Melinda's clothes, although that's not the only case. The over the top details don't serve to move the plot along and only bog the story down. It's quite frustrating at times.
She did a good job with her main plot of a ghost who's murdered and then comes back to reap revenge on the person he thinks did it. This falls in line with the premise of the show in that ghosts are often confused or wrong about situations or people that happened when they were alive. Several scenes dealing with the angry ghosts effects on his surroundings were well done & easily visualized. However, it seemed to take forever to get to the heart of matter. Ghost appears, have conversation with Melinda, ghost acts out....these were in abundance; but instead of revealing bit by bit with each scene to bring out the whole story, nothing was accomplished. I felt it plodded along too much.
If you're a GW fan it's nice to read a tie-in novel; but not a great read.

This story was really good. I was a little lost with some of the regular characters since I've just started getting into the series as it reruns in ion, but it was an intriguing story and had enough twists and turns to keep me reading until the wee hours. I had some of it figured out by the end, but it was still not quite clear and I always like when a story can catch me off guard like that. If you're into the series you'll like this book.
This story read well, and fit in with the series as I remember it. The main mystery dealt with the main ghost (there were several) and the reasons that ghost remained behind.
The resolution was good, although the moment the villain was introduced, both their identity and motivation was obvious. However, for a tv knockoff, it's quite good.
If you like the show, you will like the book (especially since Jim isn't really dead). It was okay. I probably read the other ones in the series eventually. However, there are so many other books that I want to read first. So I am not in a hurry to read them.
This book was ok, but I thought it tried a bit too hard to be "visual", e.g describing insignificant things like Melinda's outfits, in minute detail. I'll probably read the others at some point, the story line itself was quite good, I think the writing could have been better.
Reading this was like reading the script for an episode of Ghost Whisperer. It took a lot out of me to not shelve it before finishing, but I had it along with me on a trip, so I sucked it up and let it pass the time on a plane.
I enjoyed reading this book. As someone who has recently watched the series it was easy to picture it as an episode. The main characters were spot on. There were a few places where extra editing could have been useful; strange sentences and swapped character names.
4.5 I enjoyed this so much. This is one of my all time favorite tv shows and this reads just like the show plays out. I loved the outfit descriptions because I love Jennifer's outfits on the show! Doranna did great in my opinion!
