In The Gray Divide, Book Two of The Georgia Gold Series, sibling rivalry, romance, and an unsolved murder threaten relationships. Hidden loyalties are exposed and the lives of four families and a nation endangered as Georgia seeks to become its own republic, only to be plunged into civil war.
Conflicting attractions continue between half-Cherokee hotel owner Mahala Franklin and arrogant ship builder and rival Jack Randall. Awkward coastal socialite Carolyn Calhoun must choose between two very different men, rice planter Devereaux Rousseau and his minister brother, Dylan. Can she even be sure of the love of the one she chooses, or will she merely be a prize?
"A rich work of history and heart. Step into the pages of this story, and you won't want to step out, nor will you have to as this is a four-book series." -- Author Laura Frantz

This is book two in a proposed four book series. I enjoyed reading about the characters who had been introduced in the first novel. The story centers around life in Georgia during the time immediately before and during the Civil War. Interesting developments abound. The many facts concerning the Cherokee Indian participation in the conflict really interested me -it was not an area I knew much about. A mix of relationships and historical events weave a compelling story. I would recommend it.
I enjoyed this historical novel that is a sequel. The author must have done a great deal of research on the Cherokee involvement in the Cicil War. Good characters living in familiar locations. I will definitely read the third book when it comes out.
I am still captivated by the characters in this series. There were a bit too many historical details about battles woven into the story. It slowed the action down for me. But the hearts of the characters and the war maturing them more and more kept me reading. I loved hearing about things in history I'd not heard before and getting a better understanding of the political climate of the time. Mostly, I fell in love with the characters and have been rooting them on and scolding a few as I continue through this saga. On to book #3.
The Second Book in this series continues to keep me interested and entertained. The voice of the author is reminiscent of days gone by and the building suspense of days leading up to the Civil War promise to keep you turning the pages. The romance and interactions between the four families whose lives intertwine in this tail keep the reader grounded in the story. Weimer sets the tone beautifully!
