Each book is a separate crime and/or mystery (police procedural) that is resolved by the end of the book. There is a character arc and continuing story regarding Jack and Fiona's lives. This continues from book to book. The books can be read alone as there is enough background information for things to make sense. However, the series is best enjoyed by reading them in order.

A man dies of an overdose but his mother thinks he was drugged. Jack and Fiona must find out what really happened. This is a good book, just like the previous one in this series. I like the interaction between the characters. The story is entertaining and easy to read. A recommendation.
